Zombie AI Siri May Shuffle Onto iPhones Two Years After It Was First Announced

by admin June 13, 2025

At this week’s WWDC 2025 keynote, Apple’s senior vice president of software, Craig Federighi, strutted up on stage to the sound of Ratt’s “Round and Round” playing in the background. “Love’ll will find a way, just give it time… What goes around, comes around,” Stephen Pearcy belted out as Federighi, in his brilliant white mane, stood tall under the spotlight. He immediately went into all the updates that came to Apple Intelligence in 2024 and 2025. But one thing was missing, and Apple knew we were all thinking about it.

“We’re continuing to do the work to make Siri even more personal,” Federighi said. “This work needed more time to meet our high quality bar, and we’re excited to tell you more about it in the coming year.”

Apple may tell us more about its delayed AI Siri in 2025, but according to the latest rumors, we may not actually see it until spring 2026. Bloomberg’s Apple rumormonger Mark Gurman reported, based on a usual slate of anonymous sources, that the tech giant will offer a personalized, conversational Siri as part of the iOS 26.4 update. If Apple hits the spring 2026 target, that will be close to two full years after Apple first said it was coming at WWDC 2024.

For its part, Apple told Bloomberg that some AI upgrades are coming this year. Gurman suggests Apple could share an AI Siri beta sometime in the fall if it meets the company’s “high quality bar.” In the meantime, it’s hoping to tide consumers over with the iOS 26 “Liquid Glass” redesign and Visual Intelligence—which lets users ask ChatGPT questions about what’s on your screen.

At that point, we’ll have already experienced two whole cycles of Google’s increasingly AI-filled Android OS on smartphones. Gemini has long ago overtaken Google Assistant as the phone’s default chatbot. At last month’s Google I/O, the Alphabet-owned company took its AI integration a step further by suggesting people would want to pay for a $250 AI subscription bundle that includes full access to the most advanced version of Gemini along with other perks like NotebookLM and access to its Veo3 model through the Flow filmmaking tool.

Compared to the competition, Apple’s AI features seem like small fish in a deep and ever-widening pond. Apple is juggling two sides of its business. Sales analysis shows consumers are largely ambivalent about AI features on phones, and neither Google nor Apple has sold that many more phones because of AI alone. At the same time, investors want Apple to compete in AI with the rest of big tech, damn the consequences and the users who would prefer to not use a chatbot for everything.

Apple isn’t its usual stoic self in the wake of the Apple Intelligence delay. Gurman reported that, internally, the engineering side of the company is arguing with the marketing end about who oversold whom. Apple is still working on its own large language models—the underlying AI that powers chatbots like ChatGPT. It’s at this point we would hope Apple would try for something truly unique, rather than following in the footsteps of other tech giants. We may not be nearly as enthusiastic about AI-enhanced Siri as much as we just want an assistant that can tell us the weather and check emails without a host of issues cropping up. The best way to smooth over the wrinkles with annoyed Apple fans could be as simple as releasing that Pixar-inspired, AI-powered lamp. At least that will be something we haven’t seen before.

George Romero’s Daughter Made a Gay Zombie Movie, With Her Father’s Blessing

by admin June 3, 2025

With Queens of the Dead, Tina Romero, daughter of the legendary filmmaker George A. Romero, is set to make her first directorial outing, premiering the feature at the Tribeca Film Festival June 7. The filmmaker recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly and reflected on her father’s influence.

“I am his kid. There’s no denying it. And he has influenced me greatly.” Romero said. Queens of the Dead will feature Easter eggs to honor her father’s legacy. “And this is his monster, this is his genre. I had fun doing my little Romero nods throughout the film, and we have some good ones,” she shared, including appearances by notable figures such as makeup artist and actor Tom Savini and Dawn of the Dead star Gaylen Ross.

“The zombie apocalypse is such a rich sandbox to play in when it comes to social commentary. I can’t be my dad’s daughter without making an attempt at saying something with zombies,” Romero told the magazine. “I did want this to be a film in which I am paying homage to the world and the monster he created, but I’m also introducing my own voice. It’s very much not a film he would make, but it is using his vocabulary and is playing by his rules. As far as the queer element, on one hand, I just feel like the gays need a zombie film. It’s time that we get to have a big gay zombie movie.”

“I didn’t want to touch the genre unless it felt authentic to me,” Romero emphasized. Queens of the Dead revolves around a night in the queer party scene when the nightlife vibes at a warehouse drag show get interrupted by the zombie apocalypse. The inspiration came from intense conflict on social media among party promoters during her stint as a DJ.

Romero recounted,  “The original promoter posted this manifesto begging the question, ‘When will the queer community stop devouring its own?’ And it hit me like a bolt of lightning. I was like, ‘Oh my God! This would be how I want to explore the zombie genre in this world of queer nightlife.’” The Mandalorian baddie Katy O’Brien plays the fictionalized promoter who leads the film; Romero noted that there’s a special thanks to Tom Cruise in the credits for letting them take the time off their Mission: Impossible shoot to film the horror flick.

Romero hopes the film will shine a light on the hunger for more genre films that represent an intersection of gay scream queens with that familiar flair for horror and dark comedy from her father’s roots. The legendary filmmaker didn’t get to see a completed script but mentored his daughter during the development process.

Romero shared, “He said, ‘I love it! Run with it. Go for it.’ Unfortunately, he never got to read the completed script because it took me about seven years to get this developed… but I did have this blessing.”

Dead Island 2, the co-op zombie shooter that’s better than it has any right to be, is free to own right now

by admin May 21, 2025

Though it may no longer get the coverage it used to, the Epic Games Store’s weekly freebies on PC continue. Every week, the store is refreshed with one or two games, available for anyone to claim and own forever.

You’d need a free account for that, of course, but if you’ve ever played Fortnite – or claimed any such freebie in the past – you already have one. Every once in a while, however, the freebie in question is a game worth highlighting. This is one such week.

From now until Thursday, May 22, you can claim a free copy of Dead Island 2, as well as Happy Game. Dead Island 2 is, of course, the higher profile title in this line-up, and it’s really one of those instances where it’s hard to believe a game of such quality is being given away for free.

Dead Island 2 is not a very old game, either, it only came out in April 2023 – so it’s just a little over two-years-old. Some of you reading this likely bought it on a deep discount intending to play it shortly afterwards, but never did.

Given its extensive history of false starts, delays, reboots and all manner of development shenanigans, it’s a miracle that a game called Dead Island 2 exists at all. The fact that it’s actually a solid, fully-fledged zombie action game – and a fun co-op romp to boot – is what took everyone by surprise two years ago.

Watch on YouTube

In her four-star review, our very own Kelsey Raynor said it is “every bit the head-stomping blast that it promised to be,” and pointed out how much it all comes together in co-op. Considering Dead Island 2 is currently free, finding people to play with shouldn’t be a problem.

Even if you don’t particularly care about zombie games, you should at least download it to experience the the dismemberment and flesh/bone tech under the hood. It’s more detailed than you might realise, and makes for very satisfying (and often brutal) zombie-slaying.

You can grab Dead Island 2 on the Epic Games Store right now. Just add it to your cart, check out and you’re done. Various bits of DLC are also on sale, in case you want to expand what’s already there.
