Worried about Black Ops series fatigue? So is Treyarch, as senior developer admits back-to-back Call of Duty releases could impact player interest

by admin September 26, 2025

A senior developer from Call of Duty studio Treyarch has admitted worry over series fatigue, as Black Ops 7 arrives next month just one year after the last game.

Typically, Call of Duty games are released annually on a rotating basis, alternating between Modern Warfare and Black Ops. But this year, Black Ops 7 follows on from last year’s Black Ops 6 – though it’s not the first time, as two Modern Warfare games arrived back-to-back in 2022 and 2023.

“I think the honest answer is yes. I worry about that,” said senior director of production Yale Miller when asked by CharlieIntel (thanks Dexerto) about the games being viewed as too similar.

“Obviously, there was a plan with the two MW games and then this. We’ll see what the franchise does in the future. We’re excited about the opportunities it gave us, but we’d all be dead lying if we said we weren’t worried about that.”

Though part of the same world, Black Ops 6 was set in the ’90s while this year’s game is set in 2035 for a near-future tone, which should provide an opportunity to differentiate.

“We’re absolutely going to bring it from a content perspective in our live seasons,” said Miller. “How can we have new gameplay experiences? More content, more maps, weeklies, with functional stuff like deeper weapon prestige experiences.”

At yesterday’s Xbox Tokyo Game Show Broadcast, two Black Ops 7 multiplayer maps were revealed inspired by Japan. Toshin is a Japanese metropolis with neon-lit streets and a cat cafe, while Den is a Japanese castle.

More multiplayer details were revealed earlier this week in a lengthy blog post, while a trailer for its zombie mode was released yesterday (see above).

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 promises to be the “most mind-bending” game in the series yet. Tyler Bahl, head of Activision Publishing Marketing previously stated the back-to-back releases also gives players “a bit more time to enjoy all the live seasons and provide players more of what they want across Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone before we turn the page to Black Ops 7.”

PlaqueBoyMax fans worried as streamer hospitalized for 10 days with mystery infection

by admin September 25, 2025

Popular Twitch streamer and music producer PlaqueBoyMax says he’s been stuck in the hospital for 10 days as doctors work to identify an infection that’s causing worrying symptoms.

PlaqueBoyMax is a former member of FaZe Clan, having left the group in August 2025 to pursue his own projects.

Boasting over 2 million followers on Twitch, Max is extremely popular for his interactions with fans and fellow streamers, as well as producing music with famous names in the rap industry like Wiz Khalifa and DDG.

However, he’s been relatively silent on social media over the last week and a half as he struggles with a mysterious illness that is leaving his doctors puzzled.

PlaqueBoyMax hospitalized with unknown illness

PlaqueBoyMax was first hospitalized on September 15, initially telling fans that he had a shoulder injury. During Kai Cenat’s Mafiathon 3 stream, Tylil opened up about the situation in a phone call, saying that Max had woken up with severe shoulder pain and even started throwing up on the way to the hospital.

According to Tylil, Max couldn’t move his neck or his right arm. Plaque began giving fans sporadic updates from the hospital over the next week, showing himself lying in bed and urging fans to be thankful for their health.

Ten days later, on September 25, Max finally gave viewers another update, revealing that he’s been suffering from some kind of infection.

“I got a super bad infection,” he explained in a video from his hospital room. “Doctors saying they’ve never seen an infection like this. …the infection was so bad, I couldn’t move my arm at all. It hurt like hell when I walked. I could barely walk.”

Thankfully, the streamer revealed that he’s started to regain some movement in his right arm, but still hasn’t been discharged from the hospital despite doctors telling him he might be able to leave five days prior.

“I hope I get out soon. I hope y’all are doing well. Without y’all and God, I am nothing. …thank you.”

Fans are sending their well-wishes as the streamer continues his recovery, hoping he returns in good health sooner rather than later.

New Texas law aimed at AI imagery leaves anime fans worried

by admin September 13, 2025

A new Texas law meant to crack down on AI-generated content is already causing confusion among anime fans, with some fearing it could lead to certain series being restricted or even banned.

Senate Bill 20, authored by Sen. Pete Flores, was signed into law earlier this year and officially took effect on September 1. The bill makes it a felony to possess or promote “obscene visual material” that appears to depict minors, whether through real photos, AI-generated images, or animated works like cartoons and anime.

Back in March, Dexerto reported on the bill’s passage through the state Senate, noting that it could put shows such as Persona, Kill la Kill, Bleach, and Monogatari under scrutiny. The law’s vague definition of what counts as “obscene” left open the possibility that many popular series could be interpreted as violations.

The law’s rollout coincided with San Japan, a major anime and gaming convention in San Antonio, where fans expressed concerns about how broadly SB20 might be applied. Some attendees told Texas Public Radio they worried that anime’s frequent depiction of youthful characters in suggestive situations could be caught in the law’s crossfire, even if the intent isn’t criminal.

The impact was felt on the show floor. Visual novel publisher JAST USA and its manga imprint J18 Publishing were banned from the convention after the first day, with organizers citing content deemed “too provocative” under Texas’ new legal climate. Outside of the event, Kaboom Comics manager Andrew Balderas said he had already pulled early Dragon Ball manga volumes from shelves, citing comedic scenes with Goku and Bulma that he feared could attract unwanted attention under SB20.

Analysts warn this is a prime example of unintended consequences. Dr. Jon Taylor of UT San Antonio explained that the law’s vague wording could allow local prosecutors to go after any animated content they consider inappropriate. International critics, including former Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly member Zenko Kurishita, have also condemned the law, while U.S. groups like the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund say they are preparing to challenge its enforcement.

For now, how SB20 will actually be applied remains uncertain. But its effect on conventions, publishers, and retailers suggests the law may already be reshaping the anime landscape in Texas.

Why Is Tech Worried When Stocks Like Chevron Drop On Global Oil Worries?

by admin August 31, 2025

Chevron’s stock declined sharply this week before paring back losses, as mounting concerns about volatility in the global oil markets spooked traders.

Another group of worried market watchers? Tech companies, big and small.

Casual observers sometimes wonder why technology stocks—often seen as disconnected from the oil industry—sometimes react sharply to oil price movements and related news.

But the two sectors are much more connected than you might realize. That link largely stems from the broader economic signals these markets send and the intertwined nature of global supply chains.

When oil prices rise, fears of inflation and slower economic growth often intensify, leading investors to reassess their positions across sectors.

Tech stocks, which are sensitive to macroeconomic trends and interest rates, can react as part of a risk-off adjustment. Conversely, falling oil prices may signal a more supportive environment for growth, prompting gains in technology shares.

Additionally, some technology firms are directly affected by energy prices through their supply chains: manufacturers rely on transportation and electricity, like companies making data centers or rockets. That makes their costs responsive to oil fluctuations.

Investor sentiment also plays a role, because a sharp move in oil markets can serve as a proxy for economic stability, influencing valuations across all sectors, including high-growth tech companies.

This interconnectedness underscores how macroeconomic developments ripple across the markets, blurring traditional sector boundaries and emphasizing the importance of a holistic view when analyzing stock movements.

Why did Chevron wobble and will that shakiness spread?

Chevron’s drop mirrored other fluctuations in the market.

The energy giant’s shares dropped due to a combination of geopolitical tensions, varying supply levels, and uncertain demand forecasts that have left investors cautious about near-term earnings prospects.

Analysts cite ongoing geopolitical tensions in key oil-producing regions, along with an uncertain outlook for global economic growth, as contributing factors to the market turbulence. Investors worry that these factors could pressure crude prices, which would in turn impact Chevron’s revenue and dividend stability.

Or to put it in Wall Street bro speak:

“Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) stock came under pressure from a combination of uncertainty in oil markets; an announcement of higher than expected supply growth from OPEC+ (the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, plus 10 other oil-producing countries),” Carillon Eagle Growth & Income Fund wrote to investors in its second quarter 2025 investor letter.

“And investor positioning around Chevron’s pending acquisition of a global independent energy company. The OPEC+ announcement weighed on all energy stocks,” it said.

Translation: Traders are worried about a new deal they made, a spike in supply from OPEC, and a general uneasiness about the energy sector in general.

Speaking of the energy sector …

Despite Chevron’s strong earnings earlier this year, the energy sector’s overall uncertainty continues to weigh on stock performance, with some analysts warning that volatility could persist until the geopolitical and economic landscape stabilizes.

But trading in the energy markets remains robust. In the trading week that ended August 29, 2025, the energy sector was the best-performing sector in the U.S. market, with the Morningstar US Energy Index rising 2.41%. The sector’s strong performance contrasted with a small decline in the broader market.

That bullish performance also made Chevron’s weak performance a standout. And a standout is not what you want to be for several reasons, including the risk of short selling, dragging down your trading partners, and a broader selloff from investors.

Last week it was Chevron that was a bellwether. Let’s see this week which sector receives tech’s scrutiny.
