UK Court Convicts Chinese Woman in Largest Crypto Raid

by admin September 30, 2025

A seven-year investigation by the UK’s Metropolitan Police for a multi-billion-pound fraudulent Bitcoin scheme has ended in the conviction of a 47-year-old Chinese woman.

On September 29, at the Southwark Crown Court, Zhimin Qian, a Chinese woman with no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two offenses under the Proceeds of Crime Act (2002). These offenses involve acquiring and possessing criminal property, specifically cryptocurrency.

According to the statement released by the Met Police Department, 61,000 Bitcoin (BTC) were confiscated from Zhimin Qian, also known as Yadi Zhang. This is the single largest cryptocurrency seizure in the world by the Met Police, worth, at this time, more than £5.5 billion.

The investigation started in 2018 after the police got information about the transfer of criminal assets. Zhang first ran a huge scam in China from 2014 to 2017, stealing money from more than 128,000 people and then storing it in Bitcoin assets. She then left China with fake documents and went to the UK. There, in September 2018, she tried to launder the money by buying property with the help of an attacker named Jian Wen.

“Today marks the result of years of painstaking work. When our team located Zhimin Qian, she had been evading justice for five years, and her arrest triggered a complex investigation requiring evidence from multiple jurisdictions and the careful review of thousands of documents,” said Sergeant Isabella Grotto, who led the Met’s investigation. “We are grateful for the support of the National Crime Agency and the Crown Prosecution Service, and to Chinese law enforcement teams in Tianjin and Beijing with whom we have collaborated throughout.”

Jian Wen was also sent to jail last year for her part in the crime as part of the same investigation led by the Met’s specialist economic crime officers. Met investigators showed that she helped move a cryptocurrency wallet that held 150 BTC. At the time in question, this was worth £1.7 million. In May 2024, Southwark Crown Court gave her a six-year and eight-month prison sentence.

UK becoming a boiling pot for crypto crimes

The UK Police is tightening its grip when it comes to crypto-related crimes. Last month, a scammer posed as a senior UK police officer and stole Bitcoin (BTC) worth approximately $2.8 million. The cyber team of the North Wales police stated that this theft was part of an ongoing trend where scammers target cold wallets of long-term cryptocurrency holders. Earlier this year, the UK police also shared an advisory, urging the public to stay vigilant against rising digital crimes.

Woman Pleads Guilty to $7 Billion Bitcoin Fraud Scheme in UK

by admin September 29, 2025

In brief

  • Zhimin Qian pleaded guilty to criminal acquiring and possessing criminal property and awaits sentencing.
  • She defrauded 128,000 Chinese individuals, ultimately turning illegally obtained funds into Bitcoin.
  • That Bitcoin was seized between 2018-2021 and is now valued around $7 billion.

Chinese national Zhimin Qian pleaded guilty to acquiring and possessing criminal property of 61,000 Bitcoin, now valued just shy of $7 billion, in a UK court on Monday.

The conviction follows a seven-year investigation into international money laundering where it was discovered that Qian, who also goes by Yadi Zhang, organized a large-scale fraudulent investment scheme that defrauded 128,000 individuals.

“Today’s guilty plea marks the culmination of years of dedicated investigation by the Met’s Economic Crime teams and our partners,” Will Lyne, The Met’s head of economic and cybercrime command, said in a statement.

“This is one of the largest money laundering cases in UK history and among the highest-value cryptocurrency cases globally,” he added “I am extremely proud of the team.”

Qian conducted the scheme between 2014-2017, defrauding individuals and ultimately turning the illegally obtained funds into Bitcoin. In 2018, she fled China and entered the UK with false documentation and later attempted to launder the money through property purchases and with the help of a conspirator, Jian Wen.

The Met was able to seize 61,000 Bitcoin between 2018 and 2021 in what it now calls the world’s largest crypto seizure. Wen was convicted of money laundering last year, and was ordered to pay more than $3 million for her role. She was sentenced to more than six years in prison.

Civil proceedings for the recovered funds are now ongoing, but a UK-based legal partner recently told Decrypt it will be a “considerable challenge” for Chinese investors to demonstrate legitimate proprietary claims to the funds.

“Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are increasingly being used by organized criminals to disguise and transfer assets, so that fraudsters may enjoy the benefits of their criminal conduct,” said Crown Prosecution Services Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Robin Weyell, in a statement.

“The CPS is committed to working closely with law enforcement and investigatory authorities, to bring to justice individuals and companies who engage in laundering criminal proceeds of a cryptocurrency fraud,” she added.

Qian was remanded into custody and will be sentenced at a later date following her guilty plea.

Woman yawns so hard she breaks her own neck in “freak accident”

by admin September 27, 2025

A 36-year-old mother of two is going viral after she yawned so strongly that she ended up breaking her own neck, sending her to the hospital.

We’ve all had a big yawn or two that left us scared we might dislocate our jaw, but one woman from the United Kingdom seriously injured herself from yawning.

Hayley Black, a mother of two, said the incident happened back in 2016 nearly a decade ago — but after regaling her followers with the harrowing tale in a now-private video on TikTok in 2025, it’s once again shocking viewers across the net.

The injury took place when Hayley was caring for her then-newborn baby, Amelia, who was yawning while waiting for a feed at 5 AM. Yawns are contagious, so when baby Amelia yawned, so did her mom.

Hayley described the ensuing sensation as an “electric shock” that went through half her body, causing her to jump in surprise.

“My arm got stuck in the air and I was having these electric spark sensations,” she explained. “It was like having a seizure down half of my body. I knew instantly something was dreadfully wrong.”

Hayley was transported to a hospital by ambulance — a drive that she described as “excruciatingly painful,” with emergency service workers putting her head in “blocks” to stabilize her neck.

Kennedy News / TikTok: hayleys_editHayley was sent to the hospital, where she underwent scans that left doctors confused.

However, scans didn’t show anything wrong, leaving both Hayley and her doctors puzzled.

“I was screaming in pain all night and I had the gas and air. I was trying to hit myself in the head to try to knock myself out because I was in so much pain,” she said.

“Nobody was listening to me, and I was like, ‘Something is seriously wrong.’ The nurses were getting frustrated with me and said, ‘There’s nothing on the scans, you’re okay.’”

Woman paralyzed after breaking neck from strong yawn

Hayley’s ongoing pain prompted doctors to do more tests — and finally, a surgeon discovered that she was completely paralyzed on the right side of her body.

According to Hayley, the C6 and C7 sections of her spine at the base of her neck “shot forward” when she yawned in what medical professionals called a “freak accident.”

She underwent surgery to correct the issue. Doctors described the procedure as “risky,” telling her mother that she had a “50/50” chance of survival due to her low oxygen levels.

Kennedy News / TikTok: hayleys_editAlthough Hayley’s surgery went well, she still fears yawning to this day.

Luckily, she made it out to the other side alive and well, although she still struggles with severe nerve pain and fibromyalgia to this day.

“The one thing I have taken from it is to be grateful for the small,” she said. “Being chronically ill now because of it means I am so grateful for the good days, for the small moments, for being able to walk and for being here with my children and husband.”

This is far from the first freak accident to take social media by storm. In 2021, popular YouTuber WhistlinDiesel revealed that he survived after accidentally shooting himself in the head with a .50 caliber bullet.

Florida woman punches alligator in the face to save her 4-month-old Shih Tzu

by admin September 15, 2025

A Florida woman is recovering after fending off a five-foot alligator with her fists to save her puppy from being dragged into a creek.

Land O’ Lakes resident Danie Wright was walking her 4-month-old Shih Tzu, Dax, near a stagnant creek behind her home when the gator attacked. The creek, covered in watermoss, gave the alligator sufficient cover to initiate his attack.

“I turned and looked, and an alligator had him,” Wright explained. “The alligator’s front teeth were through the collar of my dog.”

Florida woman gets bitten by gator after punching it to save dog

The gator began pulling Dax into the water, prompting Wright to fight back.

“I just punched him, punched and punched,” she told WTSP-TV. “I punched him in the eye enough that he kind of let go, he unclamped a little, and I pulled off, but his teeth dragged down my arm.”

Wright managed to flip the reptile onto its back, freeing Dax and retreating inside. She suffered bite wounds during the struggle but is now recovering.

“I freaking fought an alligator and won,” she beamed.

Video captured by Wright shows the alligator lingering behind her home after the attack. Florida Fish and Wildlife trappers later removed it from the property.

The Florida woman is using this wild story to encourage others to be cautious in gator territory. “Just be careful with your dogs. These alligators are no joke. I mean, 15 feet, he came out to get him, and I didn’t see him.”

She further advised dog owners to be more alert when walking them near water. “Leave your phone at home,” she urged.

This isn’t the first time someone has had to face off with a gator. Back in 2023, TikToker Dave Franks went viral after posting a video where a zoo visitor jumped into an enclosure and started wrestling an alligator to help a handler trapped by the animal.

Not every gator is vicious, however. Earlier in September, a Pennsylvania man made headlines after being denied entry to a Walmart store for bringing his five-foot emotional support alligator inside a shopping cart.
