‘I’m sick of it’: James Gunn explains why Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is no longer the DC comic book movie’s name

by admin June 16, 2025

  • Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has been given a much cleaner and shorter title
  • DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has confirmed the name change
  • The superhero movie will be released in theaters worldwide in June 2026

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is no longer the official name of the forthcoming DC comic book movie, James Gunn has revealed.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the DC Studios co-chief confirmed the Milly Alcock-starring film will now go by a much shorter title: Supergirl.

The surprise announcement came right at the start of Rolling Stone’s profile piece on Gunn, which was conducted as part of the promotional campaign for the writer/director’s upcoming Superman film. Asked by the interviewer if he could clarify what Woman of Tomorrow is being referred to as these days, Gunn paused before saying: “I think it’s just called Supergirl.”

Elaborating on the title change, Gunn used Superman’s next big-screen outing, which was originally called Superman: Legacy, to explain why Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘s name had been shortened.

“I’m always cutting [down project titles],” Gunn replied. “Legacy was really – we [DC Studios] do something called a premortem. A premortem is you get together with your group that’s doing the project. It’s usually about a couple months before shooting… [and] one of the things I brought up was, it [Gunn’s Superman movie] was [originally] called Superman: Legacy.

“Even though I was the one that gave it that title, I just wasn’t sure,” Gunn continued. “First of all, I’m sick of the superhero title, colon, other-name thing. Also, it seemed to be looking back when we’re looking forward, even though it does have to do with legacy in the movie itself. And everybody was like, ‘Oh, yeah, no, change it.'”

Woman of Tomorrow, but a title for today

It might pain some DC comic book fans to learn about Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘s new, truncated titled. After all, the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) movie is basically adapting its eight-issue graphic novel namesake, which was created by comic book writer Tom King and drawn by Bilquis Eveley.

Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.

Nevertheless, in my view, renaming the DCU Chapter One film is the right decision. Supergirl has a much cleaner feel to it. Additionally, for non-DC comic devotees who don’t already know it’ll retell one of Kara Zor-El’s best stories in a live-action format, its new title maintains an air of mystery about what its plot will actually entail.

Then there’s the fact that, unlike more iconic DC heroes including Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, there’s only been one other Supergirl movie: 1984’s Supergirl, which starred Helen Slater and is available to stream on Max. So the prospect of confusing viewers with an identically titled flick over 40 years on from the Maiden of Might’s silver screen debut shouldn’t be of major concern.

All in all, I’m pretty happy that Supergirl has dropped its subtitle. It certainly rolls off the tongue better than its previous moniker, but its title change does mean I’ll need to give my Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow guide a major overhaul. Lucky me, eh?

Supergirl will take flight in theaters worldwide on June 26, 2026.

Metal Detectorist Discovers Rare Boat Grave Containing Viking Woman and Her Dog

by admin June 15, 2025

The saying goes that a dog is a man’s best friend, but an archaeological excavation in Norway proves that women care about their four-legged companions just as much as men do, even 1,100 years ago.

Archaeologists from the Arctic University Museum of Norway have revealed a 10th-century Viking boat grave on the Norwegian island of Senja. The buried individual is likely a woman who belonged to an elite class, as Science Norway first reported. Most notably, the team found a dog carefully buried at her feet.

“It appears to have been placed with real care,” Anja Roth Niemi, a museum archaeologist who presumably took part in the excavation, told Science Norway. “There are stories of prominent people doing everything in their power when their dog became ill. So even back then, people had deep bonds with their animals.”

A metal detectorist first discovered brooches and bone remains at the site just 7.9 inches (20 centimeters) beneath the ground two years ago. Suspecting the presence of a Viking woman’s burial, the Arctic University Museum of Norway applied for permission to investigate and were finally able to conduct a proper excavation when the landowner decided to expand a garage on the property.

“After the upper layer of soil was removed, it became clear that this was a boat grave,” the museum wrote in a social media post. “The decayed wood from the boat was visible as a thin dark strip in the subsoil, with the site where the bowl brooches were found approximately in the middle.”

The work revealed a 17.7-foot-long (5.4-meter) boat in which a Viking woman and a dog were buried alongside objects associated with elite burials, including bone or amber beads, a pendant, and ornate brooches, according to Science Norway. This is not the first time archaeologists have found dog remains alongside Viking ones, but it provides further proof that dogs were prized companions even 1,100 years ago.

The brooches’ design—oval with silver thread—helped the team date the grave to approximately 900 to 950 CE, as reported by Science Norway. They also indicate that the buried individual was a woman, given that oval brooches were usually Viking women’s jewelry, though only bone analysis can confirm this beyond a doubt. Furthermore, the boat grave and grave goods altogether suggest that the woman was a high-class individual.

“Only the elite would receive a burial like this,” Niemi told Science Norway. Niemi and her colleagues also uncovered agricultural tools and textile instruments, the latter of which further associate the burial with Viking womanhood. Further analyses will confirm the individual’s sex and shed light on her age, height, diet, and health, while also offering more insight into Viking burial traditions. Moreover, after discovering another brooch not too far from the burial, the archaeologists hope to continue investigating the area in the hopes of finding another grave.

According to the museum’s post, the last days of the excavation were spent “recording all the contents of the grave and securing them for transport and storage until they can be examined in detail under controlled conditions at the laboratory in Tromsø.”

It is my hope that they keep the woman and her pet together in Tromsø, so that the dog can continue guarding its owner in the afterlife as it likely did when they were both alive.

Woman arrested after stealing over $400,000 to spend on TikTok

by admin June 14, 2025

A woman in the UK was arrested after manufacturing fraudulent purchases to embezzle money from her employer, with hundreds of thousands of dollars going toward buying gifts for streamers on TikTok. She’s since been sentenced to over 2 years in prison.

She purposely manipulated financial reports to funnel money into her own bank account. She started small, taking a couple hundred dollars here or there and altering the records to make it look like that money essentially disappeared.

Article continues after ad

It got to the point where her employer became suspicious. The company was losing a massive amount of money, but no one could figure out why.

As it turns out, 29 year-old Katherine Greenall had stolen a grand total of £443,523, around $601,000 USD, from her employer over the course of a few years. The amount of money she stole and spent is enough to potentially sink the company she worked for and may result in layoffs. And most of it went to TikTok.

Woman secretly stole money for years to spend on TikTok

Greenall’s employer approached her about the issue on May 1, 2025, unaware that she was the one funneling funds into her bank account. She promised to look into it before taking another £20,000 and disappearing.

While she spent around £142,000 on conventional purchases like parties for relatives, vacations, groceries, and other luxury goods, the rest of this money went straight to TikTok.

She’d buy TikTok coins and use them to donate to users on the platform, sending them gifts that’d show up when they’re streaming.

According to court reports, she spent £301,162 on TikTok coins, or around $408,000 USD. She essentially took her company’s earnings and used them to donate to streamers.

100 TikTok coins is worth around $1.04, meaning that she bought approximately 42,472,976 TikTok coins with company funds.

The lawyer defending her in court claimed that she was “suffering from a form of addiction to TikTok”, but this defense didn’t hold up in court. The judge acknowledged that spending money on the platform may have been an “escape” for her, but they still sentenced her to 28 months behind bars for her crimes.

Australian Woman Hit With Ten-Year Ban Over $9.6 Million Crypto Scheme

by admin June 12, 2025

In brief

  • ASIC has banned Glenda Rogan for ten years after she allegedly transferred $9.6 million from clients to a crypto investment scam.
  • Funds were sent to “Financial Centre,” a UK platform already on ASIC’s blacklist of untrusted entities.
  • Rogan told clients the money was going into safe fixed-interest accounts, not risky crypto investments.

An Australian financial adviser has been banned for ten years after allegedly stealing $9.6 million from clients to invest in a crypto scam.

Glenda Maree Rogan allegedly transferred client funds to a crypto-based investment scam between March 2022 and June 2023, according to a statement released by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission on Wednesday.

While working as an authorised representative of Private Wealth Pty Ltd and the Fincare group of companies, Rogan “made false statements to clients, and engaged in conduct that misled clients, about the nature, risks and liquidity of the investment,” ASIC said.

The ten-year ban, which took effect on June 6, also prohibits Rogan from performing any function in a financial services business or controlling such entities.

“ASIC also found it had reason to believe that Ms Rogan is not a fit and proper person, is not competent to participate in the Australian financial services industry, and is likely to contravene a financial services law,” the regulator added.

The regulator alleged that Rogan told victims their money was going into “a high-yield fixed interest account, rather than cryptocurrency, which carried significant risk,” and falsely claimed clients were dealing with her as a Fincare representative.

The scheme involved transferring investor funds to bank accounts controlled by Rogan and her personal company, the regulator said.

The majority of funds were then converted to crypto and sent to wallets controlled by an entity called the Financial Centre, purportedly a U.K.-based trading platform on ASIC’s blacklist.

Australian regulators have been cracking down on crypto-related fraud over the past few years, with ASIC claiming to have assisted in the shutdown of 615 crypto investment scams as of August 2024.

Last month, ASIC launched civil proceedings against former ACX.io director Liang “Allan” Guo over the exchange’s collapse, which left customers with claims exceeding $20 million.

In March, Brendan Gunn—brother of Olympic breakdancer Rachel “Raygun” Gunn—was charged with dealing with suspected proceeds of crime in a separate crypto fraud case involving $181,000.

Meanwhile, Rogan’s banning has been recorded on ASIC’s banned and disqualified register. She retains the right to appeal to the Administrative Review Tribunal, while ASIC’s investigation into her conduct remains ongoing.

New Wonder Woman movie is on the way, James Gunn confirms, and DC fans say there’s a clear frontrunner for the role

by admin June 11, 2025

  • James Gunn has confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is in the works
  • The DCU Chapter One film is “being written right now”, Gunn says
  • DC fans have drawn up a wish-list of actors they want to play Diana Prince

Diana Prince is coming to the DC Universe (DCU) earlier than anyone expected after James Gunn confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is in development.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly (EW), the co-chief of DC Studios surprisingly revealed that a Wonder Woman film is not only “being written right now”, but also being worked on separately to Paradise Lost.

The latter is a Max TV show that would be a Game of Thrones-inspired project based on Themyscira, aka the idyllic, all-female island nation Diana Prince hails from. Paradise Lost was announced as part of the DCU Chapter One lineup in January 2023, but, as Gunn also told EW, progress is moving slowly on this series’ development.

A Wonder Woman movie announcement isn’t a shock in itself – after all, the Amazonian is a member of DC Comics’ iconic Trinity of superheroes. If you weren’t aware, the others are Superman and Batman.

Still, considering that Paradise Lost was meant to act as a precursor to Wonder Woman’s eventual arrival in the DCU, I don’t think anyone predicted that Gunn would confirm a Diana Prince-led project is already being worked on. I say that after Gunn sparked excitement over Wonder Woman’s DCU debut less than a month ago (at the time of publication, anyway), too.

Which actor do fans want to play Wonder Woman in the DCU?

It’ll be a few years before Wonder Woman returns on the big screen. We don’t actually know how much work has been completed on its screenplay, nor do we have any idea about which actor will follow in the footsteps of Gal Gadot and Lynda Carter, who’ve previously played Diana Prince in a live-action capacity.

For his part, Gunn told EW he and fellow DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran haven’t opened the casting call yet. That hasn’t stopped DC devotees from drawing up a shortlist of actors they’d like to see tackle the role. Indeed, threads on the DC Cinematic and DCU Leaks Reddit pages, as well as one on ResetEra, are full of suggestions from comic-book fans and casual observers alike.

Lots of great options are being proposed, too. Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown, Fubar), May Calamawy (Moon Knight), Charlee Fraser (Anyone But You, Furiosa), Melissanthi Mahut (The Sandman), and Elizabeth Dulau (Andor) have all been fan-cast since the news broke.

Comment from r/DCULeaks

However, it’s another Star Wars alumnus – one who joined Dulau on Andor‘s cast roster – who’s the clear favorite among many DC fans: Adria Arjona.

I could see that happening. I think any of the aforementioned actors would be a good fit to play Diana Prince, but Arjona would certainly be my top pick to assume the role of one of DC Comics’ most popular heroes.

She’s shown she has the capabilities to play such a multidimensional character in numerous projects, including Andor, Hit Man, Blink Twice, and Good Omens. Make it so, Messrs Gunn and Safran, and I’m sure you’ll make plenty of people happy.

James Gunn confirms DC is working on a new Wonder Woman movie

by admin June 11, 2025

DC Studios head James Gunn has revealed several key things about the future of its cinematic universe, including confirmation that a Wonder Woman movie is currently in development.

James Gunn clarified to Entertainment Weekly that Wonder Woman is “a separate thing” from the upcoming HBO series Paradise Island, which centers on the Amazons of Themyscira. While he acknowledged the series is “slow moving, but it’s moving,” he also shared an update: “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is being written right now.”

Diana of Themyscira has had a rough go of it in recent memory, following the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 led by the previous team of Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins. Speaking in 2022 about the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3, Jenkins said, “I was open to considering anything asked of me. From my understanding, there was nothing I could do to move things forward at that time. DC is clearly undergoing major changes, so I understand that these decisions are difficult right now.” Warner Bros. Games recently shut down three of its studios and canceled all projects in development, including the long-anticipated Wonder Woman game.

James also explained that although an actor has yet to be cast for the role, Batman, Superman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman are important figures for the future of DC Studios. “I wouldn’t say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we’re dealing with the other two.”
