Marvel’s Wolverine Comes Out Swinging In Gameplay Trailer

by admin September 27, 2025

Today’s State of Play offered some fresh looks at a number of games, but one of the most exciting appearances was for Insomniac’s hotly antipated Wolverine game. The newly revealed trailer offers plenty of action to sink one’s claws into, and also hints heavily at some of the characters and locations that will play a central role.

The development studio that brought us the Marvel’s Spider-Man games is clearly taking a very different direction with Wolverine as it relates to mature content. Specifically, Wolverine is, without a doubt, an M-rated title that includes some extreme levels of brutal violence. Logan is seen throughout the video using his claws to dismember, stab, and otherwise eviscerate his foes, and it’s clear that Insomniac has invested heavily in creating believable tech around the battles, including the lifelike appearance of blood.

Evidently, the mutant warrior will be taking on a globe-trotting adventure, as we see locations as far-flung as a Japanese cityscape, the wilds of Canada, and the mysterious land of Madripoor – a fictional mainstay of Wolverine adventures in the comic books. We also see several familiar faces show up, including the likes of Omega Red and Mystique.

After revealing the trailer, Insomniac introduced us to the man who’ll be voicing Wolverine this time around. Liam McIntyre is set to bring Logan’s gruff but emotionally fraught persona to your gaming screen. McIntyre is best known for his work on the Spartacus TV series, but he also has video game experience, having played JD Fenix in Gears of War 4 and 5. He’s also done voice work in various animated properties.

Marvel’s Wolverine is still a good way off from its release on PlayStation 5 in the fall of 2026, roughly a year from now. However, Insomniac made a point to call out plans to share more about the game this spring. Until then, we’ll all have to be the best there is at what we do: waiting for more details.

Check out the full trailer above, and a breakdown of what was shown in the “Behind the Claws” video below.

Wolverine Sparks Debate About Logan’s Height

by admin September 26, 2025

Folks, if I know one thing in this world, it’s the lived experience of being a short king. My 5’3” ass has always seen the world from a lower standing than my peers, and it’s rare for me to come across heroes in media who see the world from that same point of view. Wolverine, the X-Man who has pointy metal claws in his knuckles, is one of the few short kings I have to cling to in popular culture, but a lot of people don’t realize that he’s supposed to be a little guy. In the comics, he’s my height exactly, but so many people know him from the movies where he’s played by 6’2” actor Hugh Jackman. Deadpool & Wolverine makes a joke about this when, through the magic of filmmaking, Deadpool meets a “comic-accurate” version of Logan who needs a booster seat to sit at the bar. Now, however, Wolfie is getting his own game, and there’s no reason that casting a particular actor has to define the character’s stature. So has Insomniac stayed true to his short king status? Fans can’t seem to agree.

© Insomniac Games

Strictly eyeballing it, Logan looks like he’s definitely of short stature in the trailer that premiered during the State of Play showcase yesterday. Some fans note that he definitely appears significantly shorter than the enemies he’s slicing and dicing, but some don’t think that’s quite enough.

my gripe is, why is Logan so tall? He should be short and wide https://t.co/eTMS13BXx9

— ✦ JYDAWN ✦ (@_jydawn) September 25, 2025

Sorry, I just took some mild psychic damage at reading someone say that Logan being short would make him a “twink,” and I need people to stop trying to use words they don’t understand. This is an annoying case of both tall people and straight people bastardizing my culture. Anyway, the weird part of the conversation is that people actually somehow think that a short Wolverine would be inherently weird or comical. The Hugh Jackman bit in Deadpool & Wolverine was a joke because it showed that Jackman himself would look ridiculous if he were made a foot shorter with minimal changes to his proportions, but a 5’3” man can absolutely fuck up some mutant-hunting baddy as well as a man who towers over him.

We need to banish the idea of 5’2 Logan from existence at this point. People were seriously saying this sized Deadpool Wolverine should be the MCU one. I get it, it’s from the comic, but sometimes comic things need to die https://t.co/90umBvRLYO pic.twitter.com/X0AwbiohBA

— Paul Tassi (@PaulTassi) September 25, 2025

Wolverine being 5’2 is legit the worst piece of character lore of all time ngl

— Matt b (@hipppyjump) September 25, 2025

Some of this sentiment is rooted in the fact that many people view shorter men as “less manly” or some such weird, toxic shit, which makes me very glad I opted out of all of that when I became interested in video games as a kid and men in adulthood. When people say that Wolverine should be a hulking beast of a tall guy, it’s usually because it conforms to some idealized image of what a man should look like. But that’s boring, and if that’s your problem, you should grow the fuck up. Wolverine is short in Marvel Rivals, and it rules, actually.

But is Logan a proper short king in Wolverine? That we probably won’t know for sure until the game is out and people can rip the models from the files and properly measure him. At the very least the gameplay reveal suggests that, even if Insomniac isn’t keeping Logan a strict 5’2″, they’re also not trying to size him up too much. The studio seems aware that not everyone thinks he’s quite short enough, but shrinking the character model would have a massive ripple effect on nearly every animation in the game, so I’d be very surprised if Insomniac made a real change this far into development. Maybe as a secret unlockable mode down the line, but for now, the height debate will rage on until Wolverine launches on PS5 in 2026.

Marvel’s Wolverine to launch in Fall 2026 on PS5

by admin September 25, 2025

Insomniac Games has revealed the launch window for Marvel’s Wolverine, set for release in Fall 2026 on PlayStation 5.

During PlayStation’s State of Play broadcast yesterday, the developer also showcased the Wolverine’s “much darker and more brutal” gameplay trailer.

“We’re breaking new ground with Wolverine, yes, but our penchant for telling stories about heroes overcoming colossal odds is as strong as ever,” Insomniac wrote in a blog post.

“We aim to deliver the ultimate Wolverine fantasy built on Insomniac staples like fast, fluid, and ferocious combat; exhilarating, action-packed set pieces; robust accessibility features; and a gripping story that taps into the core tenants of one of the most compelling comic book characters of all-time.”

Insomniac’s Wolverine was first announced in 2021. Two years later, the studio was victims of a ransomware hack with Wolverine being one of the many titles leaked.

Last October, Sony confirmed that Wolverine’s creative director Brian Horton had been replaced by Marcus Smith. He was previously creative director on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Miles Morales, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Horton moved from PlayStation to Xbox to become the creative director for The Initiative’s Perfect Dark. However, the reboot was cancelled earlier this year following mass layoffs at Xbox, resulting in the closure of The Initiative.

Wolverine’s game director Cameron Christian was also replaced by Mike Daly, with Christian remaining at the studio “in a different role.”

Marvel’s Wolverine at long last gets a borderline uncomfortably bloody gameplay trailer, and a PS5 release window

by admin September 25, 2025

After four whole years of silence, PlayStation and Insomniac have very graciously offered up a new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine. With gameplay no less! Horrifically gruesome, violent, and bloody gameplay that is so intense you should probably give it 15 minutes or so if you’ve just had your supper.

Right, here’s what’s important. Combat looks like it’ll be borrowing from Spider-Man, which itself borrows from the Arkham series, as in that sort of rhythmic punching kind of thing, albeit with a lot more slicing and dicing. I’m talking claws up the skull, claws cutting off limbs, claws ripping bodies apart. A lot of claw action! Edwin also wanted me to make sure I mention how “sad and tender his eyes look while he’s slicing peoples’ elbows off,” because there was a behind the scenes featurette shown after the trailer that more or less pointed out just that.

Watch on YouTube

This featurette also confirmed who’ll be playing Insomniac’s Wolverine: Liam McIntyre, an Australian actor who is no stranger to superhero stuff (he was in the TV version of The Flash) or video games (he played JD Fenix in Gears of War 4). I’m sure someone will have some kind of complaint about this portrayal of the character, but he does have the iconic yellow suit at least.

You’ll also learn about how there’s some dedicated blood tech made for this game, which makes sense considering just how much of the stuff they packed into just two minutes of gameplay. Mr. Wolverine will also be a bit of a jet setter, as the game will take him to both the Canadian wilderness and Japan.

There’ll be some familiar comic book faces too, as Mystique made an appearance (arguably a more interesting protagonist for a game mechanically, but I digress), as well as Omega Red. Apparently there’s some hints for other characters too, you’ll have to wait for the “Top 10 Things You Missed In The Wolverine Gameplay Trailer” video that some YouTuber will push out by tomorrow to get a headstart on that SEO.

Oh, and there’s a release window too! It’ll be coming in the northern hemisphere’s fall, 2026, but it is worth noting that’s just on PS5. A PC release is all but guaranteed given that Marvel’s Spider-Man 1 and 2 have both received one, just a good while after their initial releases. There’s another look at the game coming in spring too, so for now, just enjoy Wolverine’s grunting and screaming and all the mess he makes. Again, seriously, don’t eat anything while watching this.

Wolverine Is Spilling A Ton Of Blood When it Arrives Next Fall

by admin September 25, 2025

Wolverine is going to kill a lot of people. That was the main takeaway from the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming PS5 exclusive Marvel’s Wolverine, which was shown off during Wednesday’s State of Play. Who’s ready for some true, next-gen blood tech?

Alongside its first big trailer, Insomniac Games confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will be Sony’s big fall 2026 blockbuster. For anyone who worries Logan might be taking it easy in a more family-friendly superhero blockbuster, fear not: the X-Men icon appears to have no qualms about slitting throats and slashing vital arteries in his first solo video-game outing in years.

Take a look for yourself:

Wolverine will be played by actor Liam McIntyre, who portrays a version of the comic book character trying to uncover his past. Apparently there are a bunch of weird cyborg enemies who don’t want that to happen. “He’ll leave an impression on his foes with fast, fluid, and rapid attacks and techniques that’ll dismember or break anyone who gets in his way,” writes Insomniac’s Aaron Jason Espinoza on the PlayStation Blog. “Wolverine might be distant, but he isn’t afraid to get up-close and personal when it counts.”

This journey will take Logan around the world, from the Canadian wilderness to the neon-lit streets of Tokyo. Along the way he’ll come face to face with Omega Red, Mystique, and others, including one of the game’s enemy factions called the Reavers. Espinoza says the development team is looking to marry the violent gameplay with a nuanced story, and is also trying to break new ground with a game that’s “much darker and more brutal than you might expect from Insomniac.”

That’s great news, even if some of the shots in the trailer gave me the familiar queasiness of a Mortal Kombat fatality. Can Marvel’s Wolverine be more than just a hyper-violent showcase of next-gen cinematic storytelling? I hope so. Insomniac says fans can expect to see more of the game in the spring.

Marvel’s Wolverine slices his way onto PS5 in fall 2026

by admin September 24, 2025

The rumors of Marvel’s Wolverine showing up during Sony’s September State of Play turned out to be true after all. The trailer was our first decent look (well, first official one, anyway) at the game since it was announced back in 2021. Sony and Insomniac Games revealed a release window too: Marvel’s Wolverine is coming to PS5 in fall 2026.

A gruff-sounding Liam McIntyre (Spartacus: Vengeance, JD Fenix in Gears of War 4 and Gears 5) is taking on the mantle of Logan here. As creative director Marcus Smith reminded us, Logan is an unreliable narrator with a patchy memory, which should make for an interesting wrinkle as the story plays out.

Unlike in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, bad guys aren’t going to be magically webbed to the side of a tall building after you kick them off the roof. Oh, no no. Wolverine rips an enemy apart in fury with his adamantium claws within the first 30 seconds of this trailer. Not long after, he thrusts them upwards through a goon’s skull. We see him slicing off limbs too. Yeah, this isn’t going to be a game for younger kids.

Wolverine will encounter some familiar faces on his travels, including Mystique and Omega Red. And that’s not to mention a certain giant robot that shows up at the end of the trailer.

“We aim to deliver the ultimate Wolverine fantasy built on Insomniac staples like fast, fluid, and ferocious combat; exhilarating, action-packed set pieces; robust accessibility features; and a gripping story that taps into the core tenets of one of the most compelling comic book characters of all time,” Insomniac senior community manager Aaron Jason Espinoza wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “We’re breaking new ground with Wolverine, yes, but our penchant for telling stories about heroes overcoming colossal odds is as strong as ever. We’re eager to explore Logan’s story with you and tap into his signature spin on heroism, which is much darker and more brutal than you might expect from Insomniac.”

Although we’re a year or so away from Marvel’s Wolverine coming to PS5 and PS5 Pro, we won’t have to wait quite that long for more details. Insomniac promises to reveal additional info in spring 2026.

Four years later, PlayStation and Insomniac gives Marvel’s Wolverine a 2026 release window, debuts trailer full of blood, brutality, and blades

by admin September 24, 2025

Other than that brief teaser from 2021, any official word on Insomniac’s Wolverine has been slimmer than an adamantium claw blade. But today – finally! – at Sony’s State of Play livestream, the developer has kicked down the door, made that trademark ‘snikt’ sound, and shown us an uber-violent trailer and behind-the-scenes video chronicling the development of the game so far.

We’ve also got a release window: Fall 2026.

The trailer, and the behind-the-scenes footage, confirms that this will be a project that takes in a lot of Wolverine’s history: we’ve seen proof of life of important locations to him like Japan, Madripoor, and the American North, whilst key characters in his history like Omega Red and Mystique have thus far been confirmed. Will we see more X-Men – Jean Grey or Cyclops? – or maybe even some external team-ups (Colossus, Hulk, and Cable come to mind…)

Check out the videos below.

The gameplay trailer.Watch on YouTube

“Become a living weapon,” reads a blurb. “As he searches for answers about his past, Wolverine will do whatever it takes – unleashing brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination – to cut through the mystery of the man he used to be.”

Here’s some more info about how Insomniac is bringing Logan to life, per the PS Blog:

Bold, resilient, and volatile, Wolverine is a character that all of us at Insomniac are thrilled to explore in collaboration with our friends at Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Like our Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, we’re once again combining our super powers to deliver an original take on a beloved character based on Marvel Comics.

Our Wolverine, AKA Logan, is played by actor Liam McIntyre who taps into the rage, pain, and nuances of this iconic character. In this story, he is on the hunt to uncover the secrets of a dark past that keeps eluding him. Unfortunately, in this world, he’ll have to dig his claws deep to pull any shred of information that may lead to answers. Often, that means shredding into a relentless onslaught of enemies who aim to stop him by any means necessary. Fueled by unflinching resilience (and a rapid healing factor), Wolverine won’t go down easy if it means keeping the mission on task.

Wolverine was first teased back in 2021, during a PlayStation Showcase. At this time, the studio stated the game was still “very early in development”. It also still had its Marvel’s Spider-Man sequel in the works at this point, with that project ultimately releasing in 2023.

The most we’ve seen from the game, to date, was actually back in 2023, when files were stolen from Insomniac Games by ransomware hackers. Following this attack, people began playing – and uploading footage – of an incomplete early development build of Wolverine, which was found within the stolen files. Safe to say, things are looking a bit more like a finalised game right now.

We’re going to see more of the game in Spring 2026, apparently. See you then, bub.
