BAFTA announces 2025 Young Game Designers competition winners

by admin June 23, 2025

BAFTA has announced the winners of the 2025 Young Game Designers awards, hosted by Inel Tomlinson during a digital ceremony last week.

There were 52 finalists competing for one of two awards during the event’s 15th anniversary: the Game Concept Award and the Game Making Award.

The five winners of this year’s competition were aged between 12 to 18-years-old, the youngest being 13-year-old Thiago van Vlerken Rene who received the Game Making Award for his title Sir Floofington that takes place in a procedurally generated castle.

In the same age category, 14-year-old Tanisi Rawat won the Game Concept Award for The Undead – a non-linear psychological horror that “explores solitude and loneliness” that Rawat said highlights “the prevalence of solace and human kindness in a society unbound by proper law”.

In the 15 to 18-year-old group, Luke Rayfield received the Game Making Award for his game Furniture Fu that combines martial arts and interior decorating.

Isabelle Taylor and Emily Sun won the Game Concept Award for Mikka Bouzu, which follows a game designer “who has lost her passion for art” which was “made for players who struggle with the difficult transition from child to adult, and the burnout it often brings.”

The winners will be featured in the Power Up experience, which are currently being showcased at the Science Museum in London, the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, and the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford.

The games will also be showcased at 195 Piccadilly on June 29, 2025.

“BAFTA is dedicated to supporting emerging talent, and this year’s Young Game Designers are no exception,” said BAFTA executive director, learning, inclusion, policy and membership Tim Hunter.

“The amount of talent and creativity we’ve seen from our winning game creators and finalists has been a joy to behold, and their ideas continue to provide us with a fascinating insight into the younger generation.”

Hunter continued: “Since we began Young Game Designers in 2010, a lot has changed. Schools and wider society now increasingly recognise the creativity involved in game-making, as well as the opportunities games offer young people to express themselves and explore life’s big questions.

“We continue to work hard to champion the cultural contribution games make and to ensure the industry is accessible to everyone. I look forward to our BAFTA Young Game Designers Showcase, and to seeing what our brilliant winners and finalists do next.”

2025 Game Maker’s Sketchbook winners revealed

by admin June 8, 2025

Since 2021, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences has partnered with iam8bit and Fortyseven Communications to produce Game Maker’s Sketchbook, an annual competition celebrating the brightest artistic minds in the games industry.

This year’s Game Maker’s Sketchbook winners have just been announced, including some pretty incredible works from games like Marvel Rivals, The Midnight Walk, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, among others. Winning submissions are broken up into categories focused on a variety of different skillsets, such as character art, environmental design, and iconography (for those HUD elements and inventory boxes that are just too good to ignore), to name a few.

The end-product that we see in games gets the lion’s share of attention, with a focus on incredible character models and 3D environments. And yet, it’s important to remember that almost all games have to start in a much more simple place, with just a few sketches of an idea. Despite the mastery at work here, these sketches often don’t get the attention they deserve, so it’s pretty great to see the competition shining a bit of a light on it.

2025 Apple Design Awards winners include Balatro, Neva, and Dredge

by admin June 7, 2025

Apple has announced the finalists of its Apple Design Awards.

The awards celebrate 12 “standout apps and games” Apple believes “set a high bar in design,” with this year’s winners – consisting of one app and one game across six categories – selected for “excellence in innovation, ingenuity, and technical achievement.”

Here’s the list of winners:

Delight and Fun Award

  • App: CapWords (HappyPlan Tech)
  • Game: Balatro (LocalThunk)

Innovation Award

  • App: Play (Rabbit 3 Times)
  • Games: PBJ – The Musical (Philipp Stollenmayer)

Interaction Award

  • App: Taobao (Zhejiang Taobao Network)
  • Games: Dredge (Black Salt)

Inclusivity Award

  • App: Speechify (Speechify)
  • Game: Art of Fauna (Klemens Strasser)

Social Impact Award

  • App: Watch Duty (Sherwood Forestry Service)
  • Game: Neva (Devolver Digital)

Visuals and Graphic Award

  • App: Feather: Draw in 3D (Sketchsoft)
  • Game: Infinity Nikki (Infold Games)

“Developers continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible, creating apps and games that are not only beautifully designed but also deeply impactful,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s VP of worldwide developer relations. “We’re excited to celebrate this incredible group of winners and finalists at WWDC and spotlight the innovation and craftsmanship they bring to each experience.”

Apple updated its business terms in the EU to allow developers to link to external payment systems in August, but it was not enough to satisfy the European Commission, which claimed in a judgment last month that Apple had breached its anti-steering obligations under the DMA. The EC also fined Apple $568.6 million (€500m) for its violations. Apple now has less than 30 days to update the App Store and enable app developers to link to external shops and payment methods.

‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ Author Issues Bitcoin Winner’s Message

by admin June 6, 2025

In a fresh tweet, Robert Kiyosaki, investor and financial author, who wrote classic book on financial literacy “Rich Dad Poor Dad,” praises Bitcoin and other “real assets” while criticizing fiat currency, which opposes them.

Kiyosaki’s tweet is titled “words of a loser,” and in it, Kiyosaki reveals “the best bargain today.” Curiously, it is not Bitcoin, even though the financial guru still insists that winners should get them both. In an earlier tweet, Kiyosaki predicted Bitcoin to surge above $1 million over the next 10 years.

Winners hold Bitcoin, Kiyosaki says

Robert Kiyosaki reminded the community that has been recommending for many years to buy gold, silver and Bitcoin. Losers save “fake money,” the financial guru claims, and it is much better to own silver, gold and Bitcoin. “You’re a winner. Please act like one,” he stated.

Kiyosaki believes that, within the next 10 years, Bitcoin is likely to skyrocket to $1 million and higher per coin. Gold, according to him, will jump to $30,000 per ounce.

WORDS of a LOSER:

“I would have…I could have…I should have.”

For years I have been recommending buying gold, silver, Bitcoin.

Silver hit $35 an ounce. I believe silver is the best bargain today. I believe silver will 2X…possibly $70 this year.

Please do not be a loser…

Bitcoin price plummets 5%

At press time, Bitcoin is changing hands at $103,210 after experiencing a massive 5% drop, with BTC falling from $105,600 to $100,000 on Thursday but recovering earlier today.

The collapse took place in light of the news about U.S. pro-crypto president Trump and his former advisor, centibillionaire Elon Musk, having a public falling out on social media because of the criticism Musk poured on Trump’s new tax-and-spending bill. In return, Trump promised to deprive Tesla of the government’s subsidies. Elon Musk’s fortune shrank by $34 billion in a single day, which was a record even for him. Still, the former D.O.G.E. leader remains the world’s richest person and entrepreneur.

“Best bargain today” — Not Bitcoin, per Kiyosaki

Kiyosaki tweeted that he believes silver to be “the best bargain today.” While it is trading at $35.77 per ounce now, the financial guru expects it to soar 2x and reach $70 this year. “Silver hit $35 an ounce. I believe silver is the best bargain today. I believe silver will 2X…possibly $70 this year,” he said in the tweet.

In his numerous tweets published earlier, Kiyosaki said that silver is likely to be actively used in various industries, including the production of solar panels, electronics, medicine and many other key spheres.
