ASRock X870 LiveMixer WiFi motherboard

ASRock X870 LiveMixer WiFi ATX motherboard offers a whopping 25 USB ports, but don’t cheer too loudly – 10 are USB 2.0

by admin September 17, 2025

  • ASRock X870 LiveMixer WiFi debuts with 25 USB ports including USB4
  • Supports AMD Ryzen 7000 – 9000 processors with PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 memory
  • USB 2.0 reliance weakens long term usefulness despite otherwise strong feature set

ASRock has launched the X870 LiveMixer WiFi, a $229 ATX motherboard aimed at content creators, but one which arrives with an unusual feature: support for up to 25 USB devices.

The board includes dual USB4 ports, one 20Gbps port, 12 USB 5Gbps ports, and 10 USB 2.0 ports.

The presence of so many USB 2.0 connectors will be seen by many as a bit of an oddity in 2025, but if you have a lot of legacy hardware perhaps that’s what you want.

More is more

In its in-depth review of the motherboard, TweakTown pointed out, “Consider the basics. A keyboard, mouse, printer, headset, external SSD, a DAC, scanner, etc. But think of a user, such as a sim enthusiast with lots of controllers. Perhaps a high-end microphone setup, or a user with capture cards. Having all those ports free for everyday things like multiple flash drives or phones could really come in handy. It’s better to have too many USB ports than not enough, right?”

The X870 LiveMixer supports AMD’s Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 series processors via the AM5 socket and is built on the X870 chipset.

It offers four DDR5 DIMM slots supporting up to 256GB of memory at speeds above 8000MT/s, although AMD notes performance is more balanced at lower speeds around DDR5-6000.

The board comes with one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for graphics cards, alongside two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots wired at x4.

Storage options include four M.2 slots, two of which support PCIe 5.0 drives, plus two SATA connectors.

For networking there’s a Realtek 5Gb LAN controller and WiFi 7 with Bluetooth 5.4. Audio is handled via a Realtek ALC4082 codec with standard line-in, line-out, and S/PDIF ports.

Rear I/O also includes HDMI 2.1 output and a BIOS flashback button to ease upgrades to future CPUs.

TweakTown summed up saying, “At under $230, the X870 LiveMixer WiFi appears to be the most feature-rich of any board in its price range. I can’t see any that offer that many USB ports, with dual PCIe 5.0 M.2 support and 5G LAN. It’s got a strong VRM and heatsinks to go with it. And it’ll have a good few years of usefulness ahead of it.”

For me, it’s just a shame ASRock wasn’t more forward-looking with its port selection.

Tesla’s most affordable Cybertruck gets scrapped after a whopping five months

by admin September 14, 2025

The rear-wheel drive trim of the Tesla Cybertruck lasted about five months before it was unceremoniously removed from online sales. The Long Range model represented the most affordable Cybertruck option with its starting price of $69,990, but visitors to Tesla’s online configurator can now only choose between the all-wheel drive model that starts at $79,990 and the Cyberbeast trim, which goes for at least $114,990.

Tesla launched the Long Range version of the Cybertruck in April, which arrived at $10,000 more than originally expected. Along with an elevated price tag, Tesla removed several features, including the power tonneau cover, adaptive suspension, a touchscreen for the back row, the rear lightbar and outlets in the truck bed. The RWD version also came with less towing power, a lower payload capacity and only one motor. While unrelated, the federal tax credit for EV buyers in the US is coming to a close at the end of the month, making the purchase of a Long Range model even less of a bargain.

Tesla didn’t officially offer any explanation about the removal of the Long Range option from its website, but it could be attributed to low Cybertruck sales overall. According to a report from Cox Automotive, the parent company of Kelley Blue Book and Autotrader, Tesla only sold 4,306 Cybertrucks in the second quarter of the year, which is a more than 50 percent drop in sales during the same time period last year.

Kirby Air Riders Nintendo Direct Coming Tuesday, Will Run A Whopping 45 Minutes

by admin August 18, 2025

A Nintendo Direct has been scheduled for tomorrow–the third one in the past month–this time focusing on a single game: Kirby Air Riders. Much like how his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate presentations went, game director Masahiro Sakurai will be hosting this particular Direct.

According to the livestream’s description, it will “provide an in-depth look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game,” and will be roughly 45 minutes long, which is longer than both of the previous two Directs combined. It kicks off at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM BST, and you’ll be able to watch it on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel.

Now Playing: Kirby Air Riders – Official Reveal Trailer | Nintendo Switch 2

Kirby Air Riders was announced back in April during a Nintendo Direct that revealed a bevy of Nintendo Switch 2 games, though at the time all that was shown off was a pre-rendered trailer. Not much is known about this sequel, but with tomorrow’s Direct running at around 45 minutes, that will soon change. The game will also mark the first time Sakurai has directed a Kirby title since the original Air Rider for the GameCube.

Nintendo hasn’t held a traditional Direct since its full Switch 2 reveal, instead opting for a Partner Showcase in July and an Indie World Showcase earlier this month. The Partner Showcase didn’t have too many massive reveals, though it did include a new Monster Hunter Stories, Katamari, and a fresh look at Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. The Indie World Showcase was on the quieter side too, but still well worth a look for some neat upcoming titles.
