3 underrated Netflix movies you should watch this weekend (May 23-25)

by admin May 23, 2025

Netflix is stacked with interesting movies, but they’re often not the easiest to find. Netflix’s algorithm might claim to understand your tastes, but does it? At times, it can feel like the streaming service hides the best stuff from you.

That’s where we come in. We’ve pulled together a list of three great Netflix movies that are well worth watching this weekend. Whether you’re looking for something scary or profound, this list should have you covered.

Need more recommendations? We also have guides to the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

The Outrun (2024)

Saoirse Ronan is one of the greatest actresses of her generation, and The Outrun is all the proof you need. The movie follows a young girl who flames out of life in London and then returns home to her small Scottish town to deal with her alcohol addiction. As she comes to terms with her sober life and her family, she also forges a new connection to the natural beauty around her.

Ronan elevates what could be a fairly standard addiction drama into something far more fascinating than that, in part because she seems to understand all the ways her character is both fascinating and frustrating.

You can watch The Outrun on Netflix.

Lion (2016)

A fascinating, heartbreaking true story, Lion follows a young boy who gets lost thousands of miles from home in India after staying on a train too long. As he struggles to survive on the streets of Kolkata, he’s eventually adopted by a couple from Australia.

Then, 25 years later, he (Dev Patel) uses Google Earth to find his way back to the town he’s from and reunite with the family he left behind. Lion is uplifting and heartbreaking in equal measure. Most crucially, it’s a story in which everyone tries their best to help those around them, even as they find themselves approaching the limits of what they can do.

You can watch Lion on Netflix.

Talk to Me (2022)

A smart, genuinely original horror film, Talk to Me follows a group of teenagers who discover a hand that allows them to commune with the dead. What starts as a party game eventually becomes something much more genuinely horrific, as they realize just what kind of power they’ve been dealing with.

Anchored by a mostly unknown young cast filled with excellent actors and some fascinating visuals, Talk to Me feels like the rare horror movie that isn’t just trying to ape something that came before it. It was a major phenomenon among horror fans, and with good reason.

You can watch Talk to Me on Netflix.

What to expect and how to watch games revealed live

by admin May 23, 2025

As if early June wasn’t already going to be a wild enough time in the gaming world with the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, that’s also when a whole host of showcases takes place as part of Summer Game Fest. Along with the two blockbuster events — Summer Game Fest Live and the Xbox Games Showcase — there are a bunch of other ones in store, including the always-delightful Day of the Devs.

There could be even more on the docket. There’s always a chance that Nintendo and Sony will run a Direct or State of Play, respectively, over the next few weeks. Ubisoft hasn’t yet announced a Forward event for this year either — perhaps because it has delayed a bunch of big games and isn’t ready to talk about them. We haven’t yet heard about a Devolver Direct either (c’monnnn, we need Baby Steps and Skate Story release dates already!).

As things stand, SGF is slated to run from June 6 until June 8. With E3 officially dead (organizer Entertainment Software Association is planning an industry-focused event for next April instead), SGF is now the de facto replacement and the biggest event for announcements and updates this side of Gamescom in August.

We’ll update this preview as more details about the showcases emerge, including additional events in the SGF nebula. We’ll embed videos for each stream as they become available as well.

Engadget will be on the ground in Los Angeles for the in-person side of SGF, which is for media and creators. We’ll be bringing you hands-on impressions of many of the games that are featured during SGF Live.

Most folks will be keeping up with everything from home, though. To that end, here’s a breakdown of how to watch Summer Game Fest 2025 and what to expect from the extravaganza (we’re bound to get a Hollow Knight: Silksong release date this time, right?!?!)

Summer Game Fest 2024 schedule

  • Summer Game Fest Live — June 6, 5PM ET

  • Day of the Devs — June 6, 7PM ET

  • Wholesome Direct — June 7, 12PM ET

  • Women-led Games Showcase — June 7, 1PM ET

  • Latin American Games Showcase — June 7, 2PM ET

  • Xbox Games Showcase — June 8, 1PM ET

How to watch Summer Game Fest Live — June 6, 5PM ET

Watch on YouTube or Twitch

Putting aside our annoyance at the timing of this showcase — late on a Friday evening in the UK and right when many folks on the East Coast are clocking out for the weekend — Summer Game Fest Live is one of the bigger events in early June. It starts at 5PM ET and will run for two hours.

Organizers are promising “spectacular new video game announcements, surprises and reveals.” That’s pretty compelling, especially since host Geoff Keighley (rightfully) downplayed expectations ahead of last year’s show.

We do know about a few games that will appear. SGF Live will include a fresh look at Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, a Soulslike action RPG from Leenzee, a studio based in China. That game will arrive in July. Open-world MMORPG Chrono Odyssey will make an appearance as well.

You can watch SGF Live on more than 20 platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, X, TikTok, Steam and international services. The event will stream live from the YouTube Theater, and you can attend in person, if you like.

In any case, we’ll be bringing you all the major news from Summer Game Fest Live. We just can’t promise we won’t have an adult beverage with an umbrella next to us while we’re covering the event.

How to watch Day of the Devs — June 6, 7PM ET

Watch on YouTube (the same stream as SGF Live above) or Twitch

Immediately after SGF Live ends, the YouTube and Twitch streams will segue into the summer 2025 Day of the Devs stream. This indie-focused showcase invariably has a fantastic lineup of games worth keeping an eye on.

Among the games making appearances are Possessor(s) from Heart Machine and “nightmarish RPG” Neverway from Coldblood and co-publisher Outersloth. We’ll also see something from House House (Untitled Goose Game) — presumably the co-op “walker-talker” Big Walk that was revealed in 2023. In all, this edition of Day of the Devs will feature 20 games.

Last year’s show included 2024 game(s) of the year contender UFO 50, the very intriguing platformer Screenbound, survival climbing game Cairn, the delightfully kooky-looking Building Relationships and sci-fi mystery Phoenix Springs. My Steam wishlist somehow expands quite significantly after each Day of the Devs showcase. Weird how that always happens.

How to watch Wholesome Direct — June 7, 12PM ET

Watch on YouTube or Twitch

Definitely don’t overlook the smaller events that take place during SGF, as you can always find plenty of treats among them. One such event is the Wholesome Direct, which will feature around 60 cozy games. It will include world premieres, demo announcements and updates from publishers and developers including Playstack, btf Games, ustwo games and Wētā Workshop (whose Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of The Rings Game arrives in July).

How to watch Women-led Games Showcase — June 7, 1PM ET

Watch on YouTube

This one does what it says on the tin. It’s a showcase featuring games from women-led and majority-women studios. Women-led Games will feature 39 titles, including world premieres and release dates.

How to watch Latin American Games Showcase — June 7, 2PM ET

Watch on YouTube

The Latin American Games Showcase will feature more than 50 games, all of which are from Latin American developers, oddly enough. Expect world premieres, game update news and more from this one.

How to watch Xbox Games Showcase — June 8, 1PM ET

Watch on YouTube or Twitch (there’s a separate ASL stream on Twitch too)

What’s the over/under on the number of times the phrase “day one with Game Pass” will appear on this stream? That’s one phrase you can definitely expect to hear, but Microsoft will have plenty to share here. It’s the biggest Xbox showcase of the year. There will be reveals and updates from across Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard.

Games that the company has in the pipeline include Fable (2026), Perfect Dark, Gears of War: E-Day, Everwild, State of Decay 3, Clockwork Revolution, Hideo Kojima’s OD and Contraband. It feels a little early for an update on The Elder Scrolls 6 since that game is still years away. But we may find out more about those other games and some we don’t yet know about.

I have my fingers crossed for more info on the Blade game that Arkane Studios is working on. It’s a reasonably safe bet that we’ll see something about the next Call of Duty here as well.

One game we’ll definitely hear more about on June 8 is The Outer Worlds 2. That’s getting its own time in the spotlight, with a dedicated event that will start as soon as the main Xbox Games Showcase ends.

Meanwhile, several publishers and other organizations are hosting their own shows around SGF. Here’s when those will take place:

  • IGN Live — throughout June 7 and 8

  • Southeast Asian Games Showcase — June 7, 3PM ET

Phew. Get ready, gamers. Details on many, many new games are coming your way very soon.

3 underrated Amazon Prime Video movies you should watch this weekend (May 23-25)

by admin May 22, 2025

If you’ve ever scrolled through Amazon Prime Video for even a few minutes, you’re likely aware of just how deep their library is. That depth can be exciting, but it can also be anxiety-inducing, especially if all you really want to do is find a great movie to watch.

Thankfully, we’ve pulled together a list of three great movies available on Prime Video that are all worth your time. These movies have different vibes and represent different genres, but each of them is a reminder of just how many good movies are available on the streaming service.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

The Hurricane (1999)

Denzel Washington is one of the best actors of all time for a reason. The Hurricane remains one of his greatest and most unseen performances.

The film stars Washington as Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, a boxer who dreamed of winning the middleweight title and was then wrongly arrested for murder and sentenced to three consecutive life sentences. The film’s depiction of the way Black men, in particular, are demonized and villainized whether they’re guilty or not remains relevant even to this day.

You can watch The Hurricane on Amazon Prime Video.

Born on the Fourth of July (1989)

Telling the true story of Ron Kovic, an all-American teenager who enlists in the Vietnam War and then eventually becomes one of its more radical opponents, Born on the Fourth of July is a thoroughly American movie. Kovic’s story about a patriotic boy who becomes more and more cynical about his country and the war is a brilliant examination of the way Vietnam destroyed the trust of an entire generation of Americans.

Anchored by one of the best performances of Tom Cruise‘s career, Born on the Fourth of July is honest about the realities of war and also features some stunning, horrific footage depicting the conflict itself.

You can watch Born on the Fourth of July on Amazon Prime Video.

Bernie (2011)

Loosely based on a true story, Bernie follows a beloved assistant funeral director in a small Texas town. When he befriends a prickly widow that nobody else likes, he eventually becomes totally ensconced in her world and her needs.

After she’s found dead and Bernie is charged with her murder, the residents of the town spring to his defense, and we come to appreciate how he wound up in this position. Anchored by one of Jack Black‘s best performances, Bernie is darkly funny from start to finish.

You can watch Bernie on Amazon Prime Video.

Watch Blizzard, hopefully, distract you from Diablo 4 Season 8 by showing off what’s coming with Season 9 in dev livestream

by admin May 22, 2025

Blizzard is hoting the latest edition of its Campfire Chat developer livestream tonight. This one is going to be all about Diablo 4’s upcoming Season 9. Or, more specifically, it’s going to cover the patch 2.3.0 PTR (Public Test Realm), which will be opening its doors soon.

Among many other things, this is the show where the developer will outline why a PTR is needed at all, what to expect from the next major update/Season, as well as how to get involved.

If you feel like it’s a little too soon for a new PTR already in Diablo 4, you’re not wrong. We’re only a couple of weeks into Season 8, which is clearly going to be a shorter season compared to previous ones.

Season 8 had its own PTR for patch 2.2.0 back in March, and Season 9’s PTR is likely going to start before the end of this month, or early in June. The start date for the 2.3.0 PTR is just one of the things Blizzard developers will cover in tonight’s livestream.

Another topic of discussion is going to be Dungeon Escalation, the new activity coming to Diablo 4 with Season 9. Each season has a rotating activity, and this one is going to be next season’s version of that.

As always, this is going to be a dense show that ends with a Q&A segment. It all kicks off at 11am PT, 2pm ET, 7pm UK. You’ll be able to watch it on YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, and TikTok. We have the Twitch player embedded below, too, for your convenience.

How to watch the Google IO 2025 keynote

by admin May 20, 2025

Google IO 2025 takes place today, and you’ll be able to watch the keynote livestream right here, via the video player above.

While IO is predominantly a developer conference, the opening keynote of the two-day event always delivers exciting news on new products and services Google has been working on.

We’re expecting a bumper crop of announcements from the search giant, including more information on Android 16 – although Google revealed a lot last week in its Android Show – updates to its Gemini AI, and possibly new VR headsets / AR glasses alongside its dedicated Android XR platform.

We might also get updates on Android Auto and WearOS 6, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Google focuses heavily on AI.

When is the Google IO 2025 keynote?

The Google IO 2025 keynote starts at 10am PT / 1pm ET on May 20, 2025.

It’s being held in-person at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California.

How can I watch the Google IO 2025 keynote?

You can watch the opening keynote via the video player at the top of this article, where Google says you’ll “learn the latest news, announcements, and AI updates.”

The keynote is also being livestreamed on YouTube and on the Google IO website.

The opening keynote is followed by Google’s developer keynote, which kicks off at 1.30pm PT / 4.30pm ET, which you’ll also be able to watch via the IO website.

How long is the Google IO 2025 keynote?

While Google hasn’t confirmed how long this year’s keynote will be, history suggests we’ll be in for a lengthy session.

The 2024 keynote ran for one hour, 52 minutes, while the 2023 keynote ran for two hours and five minutes. Basically, make sure you’ve got enough snacks to last two hours.

While you wait for the Google IO 2025 keynote to start, why not familiarise yourself with everything announced last year, at Google IO 2024.
