YouTube rolls over and pays $24.5 million to settle Trump lawsuit after suspending his account in the wake of the Capitol riots, president calls himself a ‘shadowbanned patriot’

by admin October 1, 2025

YouTube has joined the ignominious list of tech companies rushing to settle lawsuits brought by US president Donald Trump. The Alphabet-owned platform has agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed after it suspended Trump’s YouTube account following the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Trump has accused various tech companies including YouTube of political bias and censoring conservative voices, and both Twitter/X and Meta have already settled lawsuits relating to the suspension of his accounts. In January 2025 Meta agreed to a $25 million settlement, with $22 million of that going to Trump’s presidential library, and in February X settled for a reported $10 million.

At the time of the Capitol riots, these firms had said that Trump’s posts risked inflaming tensions and inciting further violence. All of Trump’s accounts on these platforms have been reinstated.

Needless to say, Trump took to social media to celebrate the win, posting an AI-generated image on X of what appears to be a distressed-looking Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, handing over a giant cheque for $24.5 million to the president, who is grinning and giving a thumbs up. The cheque reads: “Settlement for Wrongful Suspension.”

On Trump’s Truth Social platform the same picture comes with a wall of triumphant text, featuring the president’s typical fondness for caps lock:

“YouTube SURRENDERS! Pays President Trump $24.5 MILLION for illegal ban! This MASSIVE victory proves Big Tech censorship has consequences. Every shadowbanned patriot deserves justice! Trump fought for free speech and WON! Repost if ALL banned conservatives should be paid!”

All very normal. YouTube has been feeling the heat from the Trump administration more generally, and has not exactly covered itself in glory. It and other social media firms have agreed to take steps to loosen content moderation on their platforms, and last week YouTube said it intended to restore accounts that had been banned for posting misinformation about the 2020 presidential election and Covid, among other topics.

“YouTube values conservative voices on its platform and recognizes that these creators have extensive reach and play an important role in civic discourse,” says a YouTube statement sent to a Republican-controlled congressional committee.

Under the settlement YouTube does not admit any wrongdoing, nor agree to make any policy changes. The $24.5 million will see $22 million going to the Trust for the National Mall, a group aiming to raise $200 million for the construction of a new White House ballroom. The remaining $2.5 million will be paid to other plaintiffs in the case, including the American Conservative Union.

Get Nine Remedy PC Games For Only $27, Including Alan Wake 2 And Control

by admin September 20, 2025

Remedy Entertainment has made some of the best games of the last several years, including Alan Wake 2 and Control, and thanks to a new Humble Bundle, has made it possible to snag the studio’s entire oeuvre for a ridiculously low price. The Remedy 30th Anniversary Bundle includes up to nine of the studio’s game for $27. A portion of the proceeds for each bundle go to charity. In this case, it’s Save the Children, which works to improve the lives of children around the world and to help protect them when disasters strike. You can also increase your donation by choosing to pay more than the bundle price. This is an awesome deal, but you’ll want to grab the bundle soon, as it’s only available through October 10.

Get 9 games for $27 until October 10.

Here’s the full list of what you get in the Remedy 30th Anniversary Bundle:

Pay $27 or more

  • Alan Wake 2 – Deluxe Edition (Epic Games Store)
  • Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (Steam)
  • Alan Wake Collector’s Edition (Steam)
  • Alan Wake Remastered (Steam)
  • Control Ultimate Edition (Steam)
  • Death Rally (Steam)
  • Max Payne (Steam)
  • Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne (Steam)
  • Quantum Break (Steam)
  • Coupon Code: 25% off FBC: Firebreak

In total, you’re looking at $238 worth of PC games for just $27.

Pay $5 or more

  • Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (Steam)
  • Death Rally (Steam)
  • Max Payne (Steam)
  • Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne (Steam)

Pay $12 or more

  • Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (Steam)
  • Alan Wake Collector’s Edition (Steam)
  • Alan Wake Remastered (Steam)
  • Control Ultimate Edition (Steam)
  • Death Rally (Steam)
  • Max Payne (Steam)
  • Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne (Steam)
  • Quantum Break (Steam)

While the full $27 bundle offers the best value since it’s the only tier that includes Alan Wake 2, there are two lower-priced tiers, too. The cheapest tier is just $5 and includes the arcade racer Death Rally, the gritty noir third-person shooters Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, and Alan Wake: American Nightmare, which is a standalone expansion to the first Alan Wake game. This tier is great if you want to check out the studio’s earliest works. Death Rally is an interesting one to look back on, since it differs so much from the action and survival horror games the studio is now known for. However, the real standout of this tier are Max Payne and Max Payne 2. Both helped define the third-person shooter genre of their time, and they offer a strange, surreal story that is absolutely worth a visit. The first will be quite clunky by modern standards, but Max Payne 2 holds up pretty well thanks to its more refined storytelling.

If you step up to the $12 tier, you’ll also get Alan Wake Collector’s Edition, Alan Wake Remastered, Quantum Break, and Control Ultimate Edition. At the time, the original Alan Wake was another fascinating genre departure, as Remedy blended influences like Stephen King and Twin Peaks into a unique survival horror thriller. And this tier comes with both the original game and the great remaster. That said, Control is probably the standout of this tier. It stands as one of the best action games of the last several years, combining the studio’s penchant for supernatural sci-fi and third-person action-adventure with a giant metroidvania-style map to explore. It’s also where Remedy really turned up the dial on its universe-building and weird fiction aesthetics. Quantum Break is also worth a look, as its mix of live-action storytelling and gameplay levels is an early example of ideas the studio would later iterate on with Control and Alan Wake 2.

Humble Remedy 30th Anniversary Bundle

Even though it’s more than double the price of the middle tier, the full $27 bundle offers the best value. You’re effectively getting Alan Wake 2’s Deluxe Edition for $15. It’s worth emphasizing that Alan Wake 2 isn’t available on Steam, so this is the only game in the bundle that activates via the Epic Games Store. The Deluxe Edition includes the base game, the Night Springs and Lake House story expansions, and a additional DLC like costumes for Alan and Saga.

Alan Wake 2 is one of the rare games we’ve awarded a 10/10, with GameSpot reviewer Mark Delaney saying “The mere existence of an Alan Wake 2 would have, at different points over the years, felt like a minor miracle, but for it to be this one, that feels singular in its achievements, and coming from a studio that refuses to shy away from the paths less traveled, makes Alan Wake 2 a miracle.”

Console players who don’t yet own Alan Wake 2 can get the physical Deluxe Edition for PS5 or Xbox Series X for $50 (was $60) at Amazon. The console version includes all of the DLC plus a voucher to claim a digital copy of Alan Wake Remastered.

If you’re looking for even more Remedy goodness, you should check out the novelizations of both Alan Wake and Quantum Break, both available on Amazon. The book version of Alan Wake draws the story together in a way that flows a little more clearly and concretely than the game–you can’t miss picking up hidden manuscript pages when you’re reading a book. Meanwhile, Quantum Break: Zero State is more adaptation than novelization, since it doesn’t include that game’s player-driven choices, and provides a different angle on the game’s events and its smart approach to time travel. illuminated.”

Blizzard’s Diablo team forms union seeking protection in wake of Microsoft layoffs

by admin August 30, 2025

Blizzard’s Diablo team is the latest group of Microsoft workers to form a union, with over 450 developers voting in favour of representation with the Communications Workers of America.

The decision follows mass layoffs at Microsoft back in June, with workers at the company seeking fair compensation, job security, and an opportunity to improve workplace conditions.

Other unions formed by Microsoft workers include Blizzard’s story and franchise development team, as well as employees at ZeniMax Media and Raven Software. There are now over 3,500 employees at Microsoft in CWA organised unions.

“With every subsequent round of mass layoffs, I’ve witnessed the dread in my coworkers grow stronger because it feels like no amount of hard work is enough to protect us,” said Kelly Yeo, a game producer on Diablo and organising committee member. “I am overjoyed that we have formed a union – this is just the first step for us joining a movement spreading across an industry that is tired of living in fear. We are ready to begin fighting for real change alongside our Diablo colleagues.”

The union includes developers, artists, designers, engineers, and support staff working across the Diablo franchise.

“My entire career as a developer has seen my peers and I paying the ‘passion tax’ for working in an industry that we love,” said Nav Bhatti, a senior software engineer and organising committee member. “At some point you have to choose between fight or flight, and forming a union is us doing just that – standing our ground in the industry.”

“Diablo workers are the latest to show that California has become a hub for video game worker organising,” said CWA local 9510 president Jason Justice. “What’s happening here is part of a much larger story about turning the tide in an industry that has long overlooked its labour. Entertainment workers across film, television, music, and now video games are standing together to have a seat at the table. The strength of our movement comes from that solidarity.”

Eurogamer recently spoke to members of Blizzard’s story and franchise development team about their union, discussing their demands from Microsoft.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.
