MrBeast’s YouTube Shorts overtake his main videos in total viewership

by admin September 2, 2025

MrBeast’s YouTube Shorts have officially overtaken his long-form videos in total viewership, marking a major shift for the platform’s biggest creator.

Since launching in 2021 to rival TikTok and Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts have been controversial among fans who prefer longer content and wish that Shorts had just been their own app. But the numbers show just how powerful the format has become.

Creators who haven’t been embracing Shorts may want to sit down for this one, because the content has pulled away on MrBeast’s main channel, generating more views overall than his long-form content.

MrBeast YouTube Shorts explode and surpass his main uploads

According to MrBeast Statistics, the Shorts uploaded to Jimmy Donaldson’s channel now total 47.3 billion views, slightly more than the 46.6 billion accumulated by his traditional videos as of August 22. That means Shorts now account for more than half of the channel’s overall watch count.

MrBeast’s Main Channel now has more views on it from shorts than it does from longforms!

Four of MrBeast’s Shorts have each surpassed one billion views, outpacing his most popular long-form upload: the real-life Squid Game recreation from 2021, which has 871M views.

📢 📊 MrBeast’s “1 Subscriber = 1 Penny Donated” short has beaten the record for most views on a short in 24 hours, gaining 68,047,973 views.

Meanwhile, another tracker, MrBeast Insights, reports that his 1 Subscriber = 1 Penny Donated Short set a record for the most views on a YouTube Short in 24 hours, pulling in over 68 million.

The rise underscores how Shorts are reshaping YouTube. Some creators are even claiming they earn over $9,000 a month from AI-generated Shorts that take less than two hours to make.

For the platform’s top star, the pivot speaks volumes: Shorts aren’t just an experiment anymore, they’re leading the way.

Twitch denies viewership “free fall” amid rumors of viewbot update rollback

by admin August 28, 2025

Dexerto spoke with Twitch about its crackdown on viewbots and rumors of views dropping across the site as a result of this moderation.

In July 2025, Twitch published a statement confirming that it was rolling out changes that “meaningfully improved our ability to identify viewbots, inauthentic viewership, and other potentially fake engagement.”

The site’s CEO, Dan Clancy, followed up with a statement of his own, clarifying the company was taking its time in enforcing these updates as to avoid “inadvertently filtering out real users.”

The month since then, data from platforms like Twitch Tracker has shown that viewership across the platform has been on a downtrend, with hundreds of thousands of live viewers going missing since August 21.

A quick update on viewcounts. We have teams and tech dedicated to ensuring that the views that show up on channels reflect actual viewership, and aren’t artificially inflated in any way. Ultimately, metrics on Twitch should represent the real and growing communities that show up… pic.twitter.com/Pr6XaoSCfP

Twitch hits back at claims of viewership woes amid viewbot crackdown

We got the chance to chat with Twitch about these findings — but the site’s CPO, Mike Minton, says there hasn’t been a “free fall” in viewership as some onlookers have speculated. In fact, Twitch claimed that such statistics are outright wrong.

“Our viewership is not in free fall, especially among the millions of community channels that are core to Twitch viewership,” the company told us.

“We’ve seen some misinformation swirling, and a lot of that misinformation includes data pulled from third party sources. Those numbers are incorrect and are not from Twitch.”

Still others theorized that Twitch had rolled back its updates targeting viewbotting once this supposed drop in viewership became known, notably after prominent streamer AustinShow claimed he was being viewbotted in a broadcast on August 28.

“I thought they fixed the viewbots, but I guess I’m getting viewbotted right now,” he remarked. “There are not four thousand of you in here. If you purchased a viewbot, don’t waste your money on me.”

Twitch denied these claims, assuring Dexerto that it did not backtrack on its actions against viewbots whatsoever and see this as a “long-term” plan to enact change for streamers across its platform.

“We did not roll back our viewbot updates,” the site said. “Combatting viewbots continues to be a priority for us. We haven’t rolled back the updates we announced earlier this month, and we will continue to iterate to stay ahead of bad actors.

“This isn’t a short term effort. We see this as a long-term effort. We’ve been investing in this area for some time.”

Twitch is far from the only platform facing viewbotting woes; Kick has also endured similar frustrations with viewbots, with some of its top broadcasters like xQc claiming the site has “really advanced” bot-detecting technology to help mitigate the issue.

Despite efforts to combat viewbots, they continue to be an issue for both streamers and the platforms on which they broadcast, with prominent streamer Stableronaldo claiming that his own management team had offered to viewbot his channel to acquire a deal with Kick.

Twitch’s viewership takes a massive hit after cracking down on viewbots

by admin August 24, 2025

Twitch viewership is trending downward across the board in the time since they began cracking down severely on viewbots, with an up to 24% reduction week over week.

Viewership on the livestreaming platform has been declining in general even if there are some high points like Ibai’s La Vida Del Ano event that draw people to the platform in droves, but seeing such a massive and sustained decrease in viewership is not normal.

While one dip in viewership can easily be written off, a general and noticeable drop after Twitch’s policy change likely means one thing: their crackdown on viewbots is working.

However, with that exposing how many viewers on the platform weren’t real people, a lot of the biggest Twitch streamers have taken a big hit to their viewership.

Twitch’s viewbot crackdown results in huge viewership reduction

With viewbots, it’s important to note that literally anyone could pay to bot someone’s channel, and that bots aren’t all that expensive. Just because someone lost viewership in the crackdown doesn’t necessarily mean they were buying bots for themselves, and a streamer being mentioned for losing viewership in this article is by no means a pejorative toward streamers mentioned.

Starting with general Twitch viewership, it’s clear that there’s a downward trend that began on August 21. Before that, viewership was on par with if not a little higher than the week before.

Twitch TrackerThe faded green line is last week’s viewership, while the bright one is this week’s

There’s a very clear and rapid downward trend across the board, with literal hundreds of thousands of viewers detracted from Twitch’s overall live viewership pool.

And, while some fluctuation is normal, there aren’t any massive outliers or Twitch events week over week that’d result in such a massive swing of viewership one way or the other. Yet, at its absolute lowest on Friday, August 22, viewership dropped to a staggering 24% lower than last week. Viewership was also 23% lower on Sunday, August 24, yet another big crater in viewership.

Next, let’s look to one of the biggest streamers on Twitch: Asmongold.

His viewership has dropped off on a very similar curve, losing roughly 10-20% of his average viewership depending on the day. Again, there’s going to be some statistical anomalies depending on the contents of his stream, but the trend is downward.

Stats via Twitch Tracker

It’s clear as day that there’s been a pretty steady drop off on the exact same curve as Twitch’s overall downward trend. August 19 is an outlier considering he was restreaming Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. Leaving that off, he’s had a loss of around 20-30% of his peak viewership compared to the past few weeks.

It’s not as if the streamers are happy about this, either. Tectone pointed out that his viewership has taken a hit but is also fluctuating rapidly as other people bot his stream, going from 3k viewers to 7k and rubber-banding back and forth as people send bots to his channel.

A few days of data is by no means conclusive, and more data will have to be gathered until it becomes apparent just how many Twitch viewers aren’t real people. For now, though, it’s clear that a sizeable portion of the platform’s viewership is made up of bots, and that there may be large streamers who used them to artificially bump up their numbers.
