Microsoft hints at “more affordable” version of Xbox Cloud Gaming

by admin August 20, 2025

Microsoft has hinted at a “more affordable” version of its Xbox Cloud Gaming service.

Speaking on an episode of the Official Xbox Podcast (via The Verge), Xbox vice president of gaming devices and ecosystem Jason Ronald said the firm wants to make the service “more accessible to players”.

“One of the things we see is there’s a lot of players who use Game Pass Ultimate to access the cloud, whether that’s the primary way they play, or an additional way to play on the go,” said Ronald.

“I think for us, this really opens up the opportunity to make it much more affordable, and make it more accessible to players. Whether that’s going into new regions, or new ways to actually access the [Xbox] cloud.”

Ronald also highlighted Xbox’s multi-year strategic partnership with AMD, which was announced last month. He spoke about how the collaboration will focus on next-gen consoles, handhelds, PC, and cloud infrastructure.

“We’re deeply focused on hardware and silicon innovation and how we can push the boundaries beyond the current generation of devices,” Ronald noted (via PureXbox).

“Together with AMD, we’re designing dedicated silicon and hardware to enable the next generation of gaming experiences, and so that means we’re investing deeply in the next generation of rendering technologies.”

He added: “We’re also investing in dedicated silicon to enable the next generation of AI capabilities that will be transformative in how you actually experience your gameplay. It also provides a new surface that developers can take advantage of and deliver new kinds of experiences that they’ve never been able to deliver before.”

Leaked Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 release date suggests there’s still no Nintendo Switch 2 version at launch

by admin August 17, 2025

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will reportedly release on 14th November, 2025, and there’s still no Nintendo Switch 2 release planned.

That’s according to noted and highly reliable Dealabs leaker billbil-kun, who suggests the latest instalment of Activision’s tentpole franchise will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series, but will not be available on Switch at launch.

Why Tiktok Thirsts over Call of Duty’s Ghost.Watch on YouTube

We noted Nintendo Switch 2 was notably absent from the launch platform line-up when the game was revealed during Summer Games Fest, running counter to Microsoft’s 10-year promise to launch Call of Duty on Nintendo platforms on “the same day as Xbox, with full feature and content parity” if its gargantuan $69 billion offer to buy Activision Blizzard was approved. Which it was, of course.

At the time, however, sources confirmed to Eurogamer: “We’re committed to getting the franchise on Switch. Both teams [are] working on it. Will share details when ready.”

Dealabs posits that all this release information will be confirmed at next week’s Gamescom, including news of a physical release (with a disc included) and pre-orders set to go live on 20th August, following a reveal the night before at Opening Night Live. While U.S./UK pricing has yet to be leaked or confirmed, the leaker suggests it’ll retail for €79.99 in Europe. Xbox has, of course, previously pledged not to raise prices past $70 USD.

Former Activision Blizzard president Mike Ybarra thinks Battlefield 6 will “boot stomp” Call of Duty this year, and that this will push the CoD series to stop being “lazy”.

MxBenchmarkPC's - Unreal Engine 5.6 vs 5.4 Comparison
Product Reviews

Unreal Engine 5.6 up to 30% faster than the infamously bad version it succeeds — better graphics fidelity promised, too

by admin June 23, 2025

Unreal Engine 5.6 has been benchmarked, revealing up to an impressive 30% performance gain while boosting graphics fidelity over Unreal Engine 5.4, perhaps finally addressing many of the engine’s infamous stuttering issues. MxBenchmarkPC on YouTube showcased an Unreal Engine Paris tech demo running on an RTX 5080 and Core i7-14700F, comparing the 5.6 and 5.4 versions of the engine against each other at 1440p and 4K resolutions.

The YouTuber provided five runs featuring direct comparisons between engine versions, with several standalone runs mixed in. The first two runs involved moving benchmarks featuring a walk around the streets of Paris. The first run was benchmarked at 1440p, while the second was run at 720p to demonstrate a CPU-limited scenario.

Unreal Engine 5.6 vs Unreal Engine 5.4 Comparison – Significant Performance Improvement | RTX 5080 – YouTube

Watch On

In the first run, Unreal Engine 5.6 was 22% faster compared to version 5.4; additionally, CPU usage dropped by around 17% on average across all 16 threads (of the 14700F’s 8 P-cores) with version 5.6. The 720p run showed even greater gains for Unreal Engine 5.6, which outperformed version 5.4 by a whopping 30%. The last three runs (with direct comparisons of 5.6 vs. 5.4) involved static shots of different areas of the city. These three runs were anywhere between 15% to 22% faster on Unreal Engine 5.6 compared to version 5.4.

You may like

The Paris demo also showcased improved environmental and object lighting in most scenes. Interior scenes are particularly darker with chairs and tables gaining extra shadowing in 5.6 over 5.4. The improved lighting fidelity gives the demo a more photorealistic look in version 5.6, while version 5.4 lighting looks more “gamified” by contrast.

Version 5.6’s massive improvement in performance can be attributed to several updates the devs made to the engine. Including offloading more tasks from the CPU to the GPU for workloads related to its Lumen global illumination system, and the introduction of the Fast Genometry plugin that improves open-world loading speeds. Unreal Engine 5.6 is primarily a performance-focused patch targeting 60 FPS with hardware ray tracing on the latest consoles, high-end PCs, and powerful mobile devices.

We have yet to see any games (beyond Fortnite, allegedly) taking advantage of Unreal Engine 5.6. But this new update provides the best opportunity yet for the engine to rid itself of its infamous stuttering issues plaguing many Unreal Engine 5 titles.

How Long Is The New Version?

by admin June 21, 2025

Image: Atlus

Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is Atlus remaster of the classic 2006 PS2 game for modern consoles. With a complete battle system overhaul and fantastic quality-of-life features like fast travel and no more random encounters, Raidou Remastered is a much smoother adventure than it was almost 20 years ago.

The Week In Games: A Rebirth, A Remake, And A Remaster

As a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series, the Raidou games are much shorter, so don’t worry about having to sink in 100 hours like you would have to for Persona or Metaphor: ReFantazio. With this remaster on modern platforms comes additional tasks to complete if you want to fully complete everything it has to offer. Get ready to explore 1920s Japan with our ace detective, Raidou Kuzunoha XIV!

How long is Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army?

Raidou Remastered is split into 12 different story chapters that can take up asmuch time as you want. In between fusing demons and fighting you can easily pile on the hours throughout the game. However, if you’re looking to just go along the critical path with minimal side content, you’re looking at about 25-30 hours of playtime to finish the last chapter of the game.

Screenshot: Atlus

To unlock all of the game’s Trophies/Achievements, you’re going to have to complete the Devil Chart (the Demon/Persona Compendium for all you SMT and Persona fans), solve all Case Files (side quests), and defeat all of the game’s optional super bosses. This can add upwards to 30 more hours of gameplay, especially considering that this remaster has included over 50 new demons to the original’s 70, bringing the grand total to more than 120 demons. So be prepared to spend a lot of time fusing all of the demons!

There are also two new difficulty modes. The easier one is called Sleuth, which allows you to experience the story without any significantly hard combat encounters and no game-overs if Raidou falls in battle.

Screenshot: Atlus

The other mode is called Detective Legend, which is the hardest difficulty in the game. It can only be unlocked in New Game+ after completing the story at least once. Beating the game on Detective Legend also unlocks a Trophy/Achievement, so you’ll need to do at least two playthroughs in order to earn all of the Trophies/Achievements, which add up to a total of 50-60 hours alone.

Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is available now for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and Windows PCs.

Disco Elysium's "reimagined" mobile version is out soon and the first two chapters are free

Disco Elysium’s “reimagined” mobile version is out soon and the first two chapters are free

by admin June 20, 2025

If you’ve been considering taking Disco Elysium for another spin (or even a first spin) but want to do it on device small enough you could feasibly play it while, say, spelunking, there’s some good news: the “reimagined” mobile version of developer ZA/UM Studio’s acclaimed RPG comes to Android devices on 5th August. And if you still need some convincing it’ll work on a smaller device, there’s even more good news, as the first two chapters are free.

Disco Elysium – a sort of hard-boiled noir mystery presented using the conventions of a CRPG – tells the story of an amnesiac, alcoholic detective attempting to solve a murder while in the throes of existential crisis. And Eurogamer contributor Edwin Evans-Thirwell enjoyed its verbose, improbably deep psychodrama enough that he named it one of his faves of 2019.

And Edwin is far from its only fan. But ZA/UM – a troubled studio that’s been involved an absolute mess of litigation and finger-pointing since Disco Elysium’s release – didn’t exactly impress when it announced a “reimagined” mobile adaptation earlier this year. “We intend to captivate the TikTok user with quick hits of compelling story, art, and audio, ultimately creating an all new, deeply engaging form of entertainment,” is how studio head Denis Havel put it.

Disco Elysium on Android – release date trailer.Watch on YouTube

In truth, though, the reality doesn’t seem anywhere near as dubious; essentially, ZA/UM has ditched the original’s isometric gameplay in favour of an approach somewhat closer to a visual novel, where players swipe through dialogue options presented against bold 2D artwork. The idea, the studio says, is to create an experience specifically tailored toward “short play sessions that should easily fit into your life”. Such as, say, when you’re spelunking.

When Disco Elysium’s mobile version “debuts” for Android on 5th August (suggesting an iOS release may follow), it’ll cost £9.99/€9.99/$9.99 USD. But if you’re not entirely sold on the idea of ZA/UM’s reimagining, you’ll be able to play the first two chapters for free.

As to what ZA/UM is doing next, that’ll be C4, a new RPG described as being “part espionage thriller, part psychedelic sci-fi”. Meanwhile, a whole bunch of former staff (many who split acrimoniously) have announced new projects in a similar vein to Disco Elysium.

Over in the UK, there’s Dark Math Games and Longdue – two studios comprised of former ZA/UM developers that both announced Disco Elysium spiritual successors last year. Longdue is working on a “psychogeographic RPG” it’s now unveiled as Hopetown, while Dark Math is developing a detective RPG called XXX Nightshift. Additionally, former Disco Elysium writer Argo Tuulik has also announced a new RPG, being made at his Summer Eternal studio. And finally, Disco Elysium lead writer Robert Kurvitz and art director Aleksander Rostov have also set up their own studio, and were previously said to be making a game with backing from NetEase.

Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.4 will finally introduce those Fate/stay night collab characters you’ve been hearing about

by admin June 20, 2025

The big Honkai: Star Rail version 3.4 livestream took place earlier today, right on schedule. As with every major new iteration of the incredibly popular HoYoverse game, the main thing people have been looking forward to has been, of course, the new characters. The livestream did, indeed, show off the new characters that will be arriving in the free-to-play RPG soon.

The big news from the program is, of course, the imminent arrival of the Fate/stay night collab event. A collaboration between Honkai: Star Rail and genre-defining fantasy visual novel Fate/stay night was first announced in August of last year, at the same time as the latter received its long-overdue official English localisation and modern remaster. It was apparent at the time that the Star Rail crossover was going to be in the oven for a while longer; and indeed, 10 months down the line, the wait is almost over.

New characters introduced in Version 3.4 will include Fate series favourites Saber (as a 5-Star Wind/Destruction character who’ll be receiving her own banner in the gacha) and Archer (a 5-Star Quantum/Hunt character who will be claimable for free by everyone who logs into HSR during the collaboration). Both are expected to be available for longer than is usual in HSR, with the collab confirmed as lasting from Version 3.4 right through to the end of Version 3.6 (expected circa November of this year).

Additionally, Phainon — who’s been a major NPC since Version 3.0 launched early this year and was the first new character you met on Amphoreus — will finally be added as a playable unit, an honour already granted to several of his fellow Chrysos Heirs over the past few months. He’ll also be a 5-Star character, armed with a Physical/Destruction kit. Since the Fate collab characters exist outside of the usual banner cycle, all three new characters will be releasing in Phase 1.

Not only that, but the version will feature a grand total of six rerun banners, with Tribbie, Sunday, and Sparkle making a limited-time return to the gacha in Phase 1, while Firefly, Jingliu, and Blade all return during Phase 2. That means the latter half of this update will be a rare occasion when HSR receives no new characters, but considering how packed that line-up already is, I don’t think it’s exactly fair to complain.

And last but not least, everyone’s favourite Stellaron Hunters are getting some love in V3.4, with enhancements coming to the battle mechanics and Eidolon effects for Kafka, Silver Wolf, and Blade, as well as a new alternative outfit for Firefly. Jingliu will also be getting a kit enhancement of her own, which hopefully doesn’t mean this troubled Luofu loyalist is joining Elio’s morally-gray team of mercenaries now… although actually that could be rather cool.

Honkai: Star Rail 3.4 is scheduled to go live on July 2nd, with its changeover to the second banner phase expected on July 23rd. You can watch the whole special program livestream on the VOD below:

Back in May, Honkai: Star Rail’s version 3.3 update introduced Hyacine to the game, and brought back The Herta for the first time as part of its first phase. The banner’s second phase, on the other hand, kicked off just last week and brought new character – Cipher – to the game, alongside a few returning favourites.

It also featured the controversial recasting of the English-language voice actors for the playable protagonists, the female and male Trailblazers (canonically named Stelle and Caelus). This followed the actors’ participation in solidarity action with SAG-AFTRA, who recently suspended their long-running video game voice actor strike after the arrangement of a tentative agreement with several major studios. The status of several other characters whose actors have been participating in the action — which includes two other main characters, Dan Heng and Himeko — remain unclear.

Asus’ $10,000 ROG Astral Dhahab RTX 5090 gets a less-elite 5080 version with wider availability

by admin June 17, 2025

Asus has created an RTX 5080 version of its most expensive GPU to date, the Astral Dhahab. Known as the RTX 5080 Astral Dhahab Core, the new GPU is a runner-up to the outgoing limited-edition RTX 5090 Astral Dhahab, sporting the same cooler design but with apparently much wider availability, possibly worldwide. That said, don’t expect this GPU to be cheap. If the RTX 5090 version was anything to go by, the RTX 5080 version will most certainly still be more expensive than a regular RTX 5090.

The RTX 5080 Dhahab Edition Core is virtually a clone of its RTX 5090 counterpart, save for the massive difference in VRAM capacity and raw compute power. The RTX 5080 Dhahab Core Edition takes advantage of the same gold ROG Astral cooler as its bigger brother, sporting a girthy 3.8 slot thickness and 357.6mm length. Assuming Asus didn’t cut any corners from the RTX 5090 model, the RTX 5080 Dhahab Core’s cooler is plated in 24K gold, equating to $700 alone in material cost, at least for the 5090 version.

The cooler powering both versions features a unique quad-fan setup, with three on the bottom and a single fan on the top right of the card that works like a “push-pull” configuration, helping pull air through the heatsink. This fan configuration is popular on mainstream single-tower CPU air coolers and can often improve cooling performance by a couple of degrees. Though in Der8auer’s review of the vanilla RTX 5080 Astral, he noted the fourth fan can be unbearably loud. The RTX 5080 and 5090 Dhahab versions replace the Astral’s traditional black and silver color scheme with a gold-plated shroud and heatsink, accompanied by blue accents and Arabic writing and symbols on the side.

You may like

One small but vital difference we discovered is that the RTX 5080 Dhahab Core is accessible from Asus’ US website. By contrast, due to its exclusivity to that region, the RTX 5090 Dhahab Edition is only visible from Asus’ Middle Eastern website. As a result, the RTX 5080 version is likely a worldwide offering that won’t be exclusive to a single region. It could still be a limited edition run though, (albeit with likely more samples this time around).

The RTX 5090 Dhahab Edition launched months ago as an exotic flagship GPU aimed squarely at buyers with deep pockets. The GPU’s official “recommended” price is $3,099 MSRP, but unsurprisingly, due to its limited production run, the GPU has been seen priced at upwards of $10,600. On top of this, at least a few scalpers have gotten their hands on the RTX 5090 Dhahab Edition, with some pricing it as much as $22,900 on eBay. We would not be surprised to see something similar happen with the 5080 version.

AMD stealth launches the Ryzen 5 5500X3D, a cheaper downclocked version of its oldest 3D V-Cache CPU architecture

by admin June 13, 2025

Without the slightest fanfare, AMD has added a new “X3D” model with 3D V-Cache to its CPU lineup. Give it up, ladies and germs, for the new Ryzen 5 5500X3D (thanks to X user MEGAsizeGPU for spotting it).

It’s a six-core, 12-thread chip with 96 MB of L3 cache memory, which makes it a hardware doppelgänger for the existing Ryzen 5 5600X3D, which launched back in 2023. The difference with the new chip is all about clockspeeds.

The old 5600X3D runs 3.3 GHz base and 4.4 GHz Boost clocks. The “new” 5500X3D makes do with rounding those numbers down to 3 GHz and 4 GHz respectively.

Related articles

Both chips share AMD’s first-gen 3D V-Cache tech, which stacks a slab of cache memory atop the CPU die. The idea is that the added on-package cache means the CPU cores have less need to pull data from main system memory. Accessing data from on-package cache is much faster than going out to RAM.

The real-world performance benefits of the added cache vary according to application type. Tasks like video encoding don’t see much of an uptick from adding cache. However, games can run quite a bit faster, sometimes as much as 30 to 40% faster than a comparable CPU without the 3D V-Cache, albeit the upside is usually more in the 10% range. Which is why AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D is currently our gaming CPU of choice.

Apart from the 3D V-Cache, the main appeal here is compatibility with legacy rigs running ye olde AM4 socket. Arguably, if you’re building a new rig from scratch to today, it would make more sense to go with a newer AM5 non-X3D CPU, for instance a Ryzen 5 7600X or 9600X. That way you should have more drop-in upgrade options down the road.

But if you’ve already got an AM4 rig and the time isn’t quite right to go for a full system upgrade, the new 5500X3D could be interesting. That will, of course, hinge on price to a great extent.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

For now, pricing and availability isn’t clear. The Ryzen 5 5600X3D was a Microcenter exclusive and is no longer available. Right now, the closest alternative is the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which goes for around $260.

That’s an eight-core chip with higher clocks, so the 5500X3D would probably come in around $200. For context, a Ryzen 5 9600X is currently around $180 and hits 5.4 GHz, though obviously isn’t a drop-in option for AM4 motherboards. So, we’ll have to wait and see how the 5500X3D is priced and how widely available it is.

Zenless Zone Zero celebrates its first anniversary (ish) with major Version 2.0 update and launch on Xbox Series consoles

by admin June 6, 2025

It’s a big day in New Eridu as Zenless Zone Zero goes all-in on its first anniversary celebrations, including the launch of Version 2.0, a long-hoped-for Xbox port, and a log-in event that gifts players with their choice of a free S-Rank Agent and free S-Rank W-Engine from the gacha’s standard banner, along with 1,600 Polychrome (currency that can be exchanged for 10 pulls on any Agent or W-Engine banner in the gacha), and an exclusive profile title and avatar so you can show off that you were there at the party.

If you’re thinking “wow, I can’t believe it’s been a year already since Zenless Zone Zero came out!”, you’re quite correct. ZZZ’s actual first birthday isn’t for nearly another month – Version 1.0 launched on July 4, 2024 – but since most HoYo games operate on a regular six-week schedule, anniversary events are traditionally held during whichever update period contains the big day, ensuring that players have around 40 days to log in and claim all the celebratory bonuses.

Zenless Zone Zero is an urban science-fantasy RPG following the exploits of siblings Belle and Wise, whose retro video store is a front for their side-hustle escorting trained “Agents” through forbidden and dangerous exclusion zones – known as “Hollows” – that have sprung up around their home city of New Eridu following a large-scale disaster. In a departure from HoYoverse tradition, the protagonists are only playable in the hub world, while the Agent characters are the ones featured in the gacha and whom the player controls during combat.

Version 2.0 marks the official beginning of a second season story for ZZZ, promising to expand on the mysteries introduced during the game’s first year, as well as introducing new characters and storylines. To that end, today also sees the debut of Yixuan and Pan Yinhu, two brand-new Agents at S-Rank and A-Rank rarity, respectively; and with them the game’s 11th playable faction, Yunkui Summit, who are sure to play a major role in upcoming chapters. Yixuan is also the game’s first Rupture Agent, a brand-new damage type that marks the first new combat class added to the game since launch.

In addition to the official start of Season 2, today also sees Zenless Zone Zero – which launched last year for PC, PS5, and mobile devices – make its long-anticipated debut on Xbox Series consoles, as well as the Xbox Cloud Gaming service.

Event-exclusive character Yixuan makes her debut alongside a first-time rerun for popular recent addition Astra Yao; her companion, Pan Yinhu, is due to join the standard banner pool once the anniversary update ends. | Image credit: HoYoverse

Zenless Zone Zero 2.0 comes out at a time when HoYoverse is still at the centre of an ongoing labour dispute with many of the US-based voice actors who perform the English language dubs of ZZZ along with Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.

Several actors from all three games have been replaced over the past few months, including close to half of the original lead cast of Zenless; some have taken to social media to link the loss of their roles with their participation in the strike action, which seeks to ensure video game voice actors receive adequate protection in line with other performers against generative AI being trained on their work. HoYoverse has so far declined to comment on the recasts beyond attributing them to “recording scheduling arrangements”.

Farcaster launches pro version with token airdrop to early subscribers

by admin May 29, 2025

Farcaster has rolled out Farcaster Pro, and is airdropping the new PRO token to early subscribers.

Farcaster, a decentralized social media protocol backed by Paradigm and founded by former Coinbase execs, launched a Pro version of its flagship app Warpcast, which had recently been rebranded back to Farcaster.

Farcaster Pro, priced at $120 per year, was quietly rolled out to users yesterday, May 28. Those who subscribed early reported receiving a new token PRO airdropped to their wallets. “Yesterday I paid $120 for Warpcast Pro. Today I got a $600 airdrop,” one early subscriber posted on X. A verification tool was also released, allowing users to check if they were among the first 10,000 Pro users, potentially qualifying for additional drops.

Within the first hour of launch, Farcaster Pro reportedly garnered 3,700 subscribers. That’s “100 paid subscriptions per user,” Farvaster noted. Farcaster isn’t just a standalone social media app but a decentralized protocol supporting multiple mini apps.

Officially launched in 2020, Farcaster is built on Ethereum (ETH) Layer 2 network Optimism, using a hybrid model where user identity and key actions are on-chain, while social content is stored on decentralized hubs — making it censorship-resistant but scalable.

Farcaster’s user engagement has seen significant growth in recent months. According to Dune Analytics, the platform’s user engagement surged to a peak 7-day average of nearly 50,000 daily active users in late March this year, before dipping and now rebounding to just under 40,000 DAU.
