SnowRunner dev’s latest vehicle sim lets you channel your inner Frank Sobotka by managing a struggling port

by admin August 17, 2025

I recently finished rewatching all of the Wire, and on reflection I think Season 2 is my favourite of five. This is in large part due to the tragic character of Frank Sobotka, the stevedore and union leader driven into the arms of organised crime as he struggles to keep his workers paid and Baltimore’s ailing trade port afloat.

While it’s unlikely that Docked will be as thematically complex as one of the most critically acclaimed TV shows of all time, it does lump you with a similar challenge as poor ol’ Frank. This latest entry in Saber Interactive’s fleet of vehicle simulators puts you in the role of a longshoreman tasked with rebuilding and expanding a struggling dockyard. In this case, your problems aren’t caused by economic tides, but by a recent hurricane that has battered your port.

Like this year’s Roadcraft, Docked involves a mixture of driving enormous vehicles and higher-level management. The central game loop involves unloading massive cargo ships of their cuboid containers (or “cans” as Frank would call them). To do this, you’ll need to master driving flatbed trucks, heavy-duty lifting tractors, and dock-specific vehicles like massive cranes and straddle carriers.

More broadly, you’ll need to keep the port’s finances in check by snagging new contracts and ensuring your customers get the cargo they need, as well as maintaining and repairing the dock equipment and investing in its infrastructure. Fulfilling contracts will enable you to buy better machinery, upgrade the dock’s yards and offices, and expand the scale of your port.

It’s intriguing how Saber’s vehicular games are shifting from straight-up driving challenges to being broader, more managerial affairs. I also wonder whether it’s the right direction. RoadCraft proved divisive when it launched back in April, with many players lamenting that its broader scope came at the cost of quality vehicle handling.

Indeed, our own Shaun Prescott was forced to adjust his expectations when he tested RoadCraft earlier this year. “In some ways it’s a physics puzzler wrapped in a lavish simulator outfit,” he wrote back in February. “When I started to think about it like this, I started to enjoy it more.”

Docked may be able to provide both advanced logistics simulation and detailed vehicle handling, of course. But I do think making a proper SnowRunner sequel alongside these more adventurous titles would alleviate much of the complaining. In any case, there’s no release date for Docked yet, but I imagine it’ll float into port sometime next year.

Wall Street Veteran and Tether Alums Plans $1B Crypto Vehicle

by admin June 25, 2025

A former top executive of Blackstone and co-founder of Tether is teaming up to raise $1 billion for a new crypto investment venture. They seek to build a listed investment fund (such as a public company) that will invest in a mix of top cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana.

The project is being held through a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) called M3-Brigade Acquisition V Corp. The funding process is still ongoing, and the $1 billion target could change depending on investor interest.

The key people behind this new venture are: Reeve Collins, co-founder of Tether,  and Chinh Chu, former co-head of private equity at Blackstone and founder of investment firm CC Capital. Both Collins and Chu took sponsor roles in M3-Brigade earlier this year. The financial advisory firm Cantor Fitzgerald is reportedly involved in helping with the fundraising.

This approach is different from other crypto investment strategies that focus only on one token. For example, Japan’s Metaplanet and Michael Saylor’s Strategy mainly buy Bitcoin. Other companies, like SharpLink Gaming, focus on Ethereum. However, this new vehicle wants to spread its investment across multiple tokens to reduce risk and increase opportunity.

The timing of this project follows a significant move by President Donald Trump earlier in the year. In March of 2025, he signed an executive order on behalf of the U.S. government to establish a Bitcoin reserve as well as a multi-token reserve holding other digital assets. The new crypto fund is in line with this larger move towards national-level holdings of crypto.

Startup DIMO Launches DePIN Venture in Japan to Help Automakers Monetize Vehicle Data

by admin June 12, 2025

In brief

  • DIMO has established a joint venture with Hakuhodo KEY3 to expand into the Japanese market.
  • The platform’s community will vote to approve funding for a 33% equity stake.
  • Japan’s connected vehicle market is projected to hit $1 trillion by 2030.

Japanese automakers have spent billions developing connected car features, yet most vehicle data remains locked in corporate silos. Now, a U.S.-based blockchain startup wants to change that dynamic in one of the world’s most advanced automotive markets.

Decentralized vehicle data platform DIMO announced today that it is expanding into the Japanese market through a joint venture with Web3 company Hakuhodo KEY3, targeting automakers who struggle with costly infrastructure development and tightening privacy regulations.

“Japan remains an integral part of the global market, with key automakers, Tier 1 suppliers, and mobility innovators all concentrated in the country,” DIMO Japan CEO Ryo Hayashi said in a statement shared with Decrypt. “Our immediate focus is to expand the DIMO platform and allow local companies to integrate with it.”

The move would help remove “infrastructure hurdles” for automakers, service partners, and third-party developers who are looking to “build and innovate” through their platform, Hayashi said.

Decentralizing software for vehicles

DIMO’s decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) operates like a marketplace for vehicle data.

Drivers maintain ownership of their information while automakers access aggregated insights to develop features ranging from real-time diagnostics to usage-based insurance.

Drivers connect their vehicles through DIMO’s mobile app and earn token rewards for sharing anonymized data, creating a two-sided marketplace that incentivizes participation. DIMO claims it currently connects over 180,000 vehicles globally.

The timing appears strategic. Japan produces approximately 10% of the world’s vehicles, including brands such as Toyota, Suzuki, and Honda, according to data released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association in 2024.

Meanwhile, the connected and software-defined vehicle market is projected to expand from $200 billion in 2024 to over $1 trillion by 2030, according to industry estimates.

For DIMO, this means automakers urgently need data infrastructure to capture revenue from software, making its entry strategic for entering one of Asia’s fastest-growing automotive markets.

For Japanese automakers, the partnership addresses a critical pain point around “privacy concerns and high development costs,” DIMO explained.

DIMO will work within local privacy regulations and adhere to the specialized needs of local OEMs.

The venture follows DIMO’s decentralized governance model, requiring token holders to vote on major treasury decisions.

The community will decide on June 16 whether to allocate $500,000 USDT and 4 million DIMO tokens for a 33% equity stake in the Japanese entity, ensuring that stakeholders directly approve strategic expansion rather than leaving decisions to executives alone.
