YouTube ups minimum age requirement for livestreams

by admin June 26, 2025

YouTube has announced it’s raising the minimum age requirement for users to broadcast their own livestreams. Where previously, anyone over the age of 13 could stream freely, 16 is now the new target.

Up until now, YouTube users aged 13 or older were allowed to stream live content on the platform without restrictions. This age is identical to the minimum requirement found across other streaming-oriented platforms like Twitch and Kick.

Now, however, the Google-owned platform is raising its minimum age requirement. Coming into effect on July 22, users will need to be 16 years old in order to live stream on YouTube.

Thus, anyone younger will need to be accompanied on-stream by an adult. Failure to abide by this change will result in a number of consequences, ranging from live chat restrictions to outright losing the ability to stream.

YouTubeBudding YouTube streamers need to ensure they meet the new minimum age requirement.

YouTube’s new livestream age restriction explained

Put simply, from July 22 on, users need to be over the age of 16 in order to safely click the ‘Go live’ button on YouTube. If you meet that requirement, you’re able to stream freely without any consequences.

Previously, that age requirement was set to 13 years or older. Google hasn’t provided an explanation as to why it’s now upping the minimum age by three years.

Given many younger content creators engage with the feature, particularly minor gaming or toy-focused channels, the change does impose some new restrictions.

For any users under the age of 16 who still wish to livestream, they must be visibly accompanied by an adult. So an adult can’t just start the stream and then head over to another room; they must ‘visibly’ be on camera the entire time.

Ignoring these rules obviously comes with implications. Google has outlined how accounts can have access to live chat and “other features” restricted. Furthermore, “in the future, we plan to take down these livestreams, and the account may temporarily lose its ability to livestream.”

How does YouTube’s new livestream age restriction compare to other platforms?

With YouTube upping the minimum age for streaming on the platform, it now sits apart from competitors in the space. Snapchat, Instagram, Twitch, and Kick all have their minimum streaming age set to 13 years old. However, some come with a few caveats.

With regards to Twitch, for users between the age of 13 and the “age of legal majority in your jurisdiction of residence, you may only use the Twitch Services under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian,” as the platform’s terms of service outline.

Unsplash.com: appshunter.ioYouTube now stands apart from the likes of Twitch with regard to its minimum age requirement.

Meanwhile, Kick follows suit with similar verbiage in its guide for parents and educators. “Kick is a live-streaming platform for users ages 13 and older. Users who are 13 (16 in Europe) or older but under the age of majority where they reside (18 in most jurisdictions) may only use Kick with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to Kick’s Terms of Service.

“Children under 13 may not use Kick. We are strict in upholding these age restrictions.”

Only time will tell if other platforms follow suit and raise their minimum age requirement or if YouTube will continue as an outlier.

Mystery Bitcoin Whale Ups the Ante on Hyperliquid

by admin June 10, 2025

According to data provided by Lookonchain, the so-called “Mystery Whale” recently deposited another 2.35 million USDC tokens in order to continue going long on Bitcoin, the leading cryptcurreny by market cap.

The whale has now managed to secure an unrealized profit of a whopping $5 million in a single day.

The enormous long position of the whale has now surpassed a quarter billion dollars.

With $17.45 million in the account, the whale is using 20x leverage.

Notably, a move of just 5% would completely wipe out the margin, meaning that the trader feels pretty confident about betting on bullish Bitcoin price action in the short term.

The current liquidation price for the aforementioned position stands at $105,090, which would be 4.5% below the current entry.

Lookonchain initially revealed that the mystery whale was going 20X long on Bitcoin (BTC). The whale created a new wallet and deposited $10 million on Hyperliquid.

Following this, the price of Bitcoin experienced a substantial price rally, surpassing $110,000.

$438 million worth of liquidations

According to data provided by CoinGlass, $437.90 million worth of crypto has been liquidated over the past 24 hours.

Short positions, obviously, account for the vast majority of this wipeout ($386.50 million).

A total of 105,590 traders got liquidated over the past 24 hours.

The 24-hour long volume stands at $54 billion, experiencing a massive 130% increase over the past 24 hours.

Among top Binance traders, there are 68 long accounts per 100 short accounts, meaning that traders are leaning bearish. However, those who are long Bitcoin are betting more heavily.

Epic Universe Ups the Ante for Theme Park Foodies

by admin May 27, 2025

You’ll need to fuel up to keep your energy going at Epic Universe, and there’s no short supply of the most bananas (in some cases) and bonkers fandom-inspired food and drinks in each portal.

io9 recently visited Epic Universe during its media preview and got to try many of the theme park foodie culinary delights to see what’s worth trying—and what might just be cute for a social media picture. From Viking fare in Berk to lab concoctions in the Dark Universe, here are some of the most outrageous things we tried.

Okay, we had to try the DK Crush Float because we needed to get the barrel mug it came in. Never mind the taste—which was a pungent pineapple soda and banana ice-cream assault on the palette. You’ll feel like you got the barrel cracked open into your mouth along with it, complete with caramel popcorn pieces and shards of chocolate. It’s a lot. But if those flavors are your thing, you do you. Special mention: there’s a plant-based green shell for vegan representation.

Hands down the best handy meal at Epic Universe: the mac and cheese cones at Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel. They come in various combination toppings including Goldfish crackers, PB&J (pork, bacon and jam), and Dragon Fire Chicken (spicy). They’re incredible and easy to eat. Special mention: The Mead Hall’s Yaknog, which is basically a cinnamon forward iced hot chocolate, and Stormfly’s Catch of the Day, a decorated chocolate mousse filled fish (just the shape, not the flavor) served on a bed of colorful crispy cereal (think Fruity Pebbles).

The Burning Blade is the most metal themed food location in the park. It’s a fun, themed tavern with drinks that pay homage to the Universal Monsters. The Monocaine mocktail is fizzy and green—and is inspired by what turns the Invisible Man invisible. It also comes in a souvenir lab beaker and does not in fact make you invisible enough to ride Monsters Unchained multiple times. Special mention: the Frankenstein’s Monster head-shaped pretzel that comes with a white cheese dipping sauce, available at  De Lacey’s Cottage. (We brought it into the Burning Blade Tavern for photo purposes.)

The Pizza Moon locale is a delightfully tasty and gorgeous spot with A Trip to the Moon aesthetics, where you can keep cool and eat some darn good pizza pies. We loved the Pizza Lunare, which features a purple ube crusted dough and is topped with melty béchamel, fromage de lune ricotta, pancetta, and roasted garlic. Special mention: Frosty Moon ice cream with swirl cones topped with celestial marshmallow charms and star-shaped gold sprinkles.

Epic Universe is now open. Some food was provided by Universal and some was paid for by the writer.
