Semiwork gets all mysterious about REPO’s new monsters ahead of the next update

by admin September 8, 2025

REPO announced that a monster update would be coming at the end of October not too long ago, and have followed up with a video answering some of the questions players are throwing its way. Unfortunately though, if you wanted any sort of insight to what new monsters we can expect to face, or how many are being added, I’ve got some bad news. Semiwork will not be dishing out any information on how many monsters are coming, or their appearance, ahead of time.

In the most recent video Q&A, Semiwork’s Pontus Sundström says “just as the appearance of these monsters, we will keep the exact number of new monsters a secret as well. But I will say though, we are focusing on quality before quantity. We want each monster to feel unique, and different from all the other monsters. That is very important to us when we design and come up with these new ferocious beings that you will encounter in the next update.”

So it sounds like we’ll be stuck scouring each video ahead of the update for clues if we want to get any sort of idea of what terrors we’re inevitably going to face. Though it’s not all secret. Semiwork has confirmed that there will be a mix of new monsters coming which follow the same level system as the last batch.

Rather than just unleashing a load of new, terrifying beasts that end your run in a single hit, a batch of smaller, more annoying monsters designed to make your life a bit harder will be coming too. Though saying that, I swear I’ve lost my health and loot to gnomes more than any other creature in REPO.

No changes are being made to existing monsters as part of this update either, and since the sole focus is on the new monsters, there won’t be any new valuables or maps either. Although some of the old settings such as the manor house will be getting a “fresh coat of paint” alongside some new textures, and a few new rooms are being added to the museum map, which will help locations feel somewhat fresh at least.

ConcernedApe assures that Stardew Valley update 1.7 won’t delay Haunted Chocolatier much – it might even release first

by admin September 7, 2025

Fear not, fans of spirit candy! The recent announcement of Stardew Valley 1.7 update is not evidence that Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone’s next game Haunted Chocolatier has been banished to the realm of vapourware – or so sayeth Barone himself, at least. In a brief and caveat-strewn Q&A, the life sim creator has gone into more depth about development on Stardew, revealing that he’s not as heavily involved with it as with previous updates. As such, he’s still focussing “the vast majority” of his attention on Haunted Chocolatier.

It’s even possible that the latter will release before Stardew Valley’s next update, but let’s not count our Cocoa Loco Little Choc Chicks (£6.99 minus delivery costs) before they’ve hatched.

“Recently, I announced that there will be another major content update for Stardew Valley — the 1.7 update,” writes Barone on his blog. “You might be wondering: If ConcernedApe is working on Stardew Valley 1.7, will that cause Haunted Chocolatier to take longer? The answer: Maybe a little, but not as much as you might think.”

Barone goes onto explain that he’s been working with a small team on Stardew Valley additions and fixes since update 1.3 – he’s still “completely solo” on Haunted Chocolatier “for the time being”.

While he was “fully, personally locked-in on content development” for previous Stardew updates, Barone says that with update 1.7, “I have been trying to take more of a “creative director” role in the team, so that (at least for now) I can focus the vast majority of my attention on Haunted Chocolatier.”

“So far, it’s been pretty good… we are working at a relaxed pace, we have a ton of ideas, and everything has been high quality,” Barone continues. “Eventually, I will have to spend a little more time focused on Stardew Valley, because in order for me to maintain a full connection to the game, I need my hand to touch every piece of new content. And there are some aspects of content development which I insist on doing myself, like the music.

“But with our “no release date” approach to the 1.7 update, it’s not certain when that time will come. It might even be after Haunted Chocolatier comes out. (no guarantees though)”.

Barone adds that “the reality of my life is that I have a very popular 1st game that I still want to take care of, which means that my 2nd game might take a little longer”. Stardew Valley’s audience is “still growing”, he notes, and “it’s hard to just stop improving it when there are still things that can be improved. But I hope the approach I am taking for Stardew Valley 1.7 will help keep Haunted Chocolatier on track.”

Stardewman remains tight-lipped as to what update 1.7 might involve. We don’t know a whole caboodle about Haunted Chocolatier, either, other than that it’s more of an action-RPG than Stardew Valley, and sees you staffing a chocolate shop with ghosts.

Let me laboriously do some Audience Engagement and ask: what kind of chocolate would you be least surprised to discover is made by ghosts? I’ve always found hazelnut truffles a bit sinister. I find that they mysteriously make me fatter – clear indications of paranormal activity.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 Update Reduces File Size, Causes Problems For Players

by admin September 6, 2025

File optimization for large games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 sounds like good idea, especially when more space is needed on consoles. The latest Black Ops 6 update went live this week and it appears to have significantly shrunk the file size. It’s also caused issues with some players and seemingly deleted the game from their systems.

A member of GameSpot’s staff shared screenshots that demonstrated a drop from 222.1 GB before the update to 122.8 GB afterwards.

On top is the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 file size before the update, and the new file size is shown below.

However, there are multiple reports from players on Reddit that the update deleted Black Ops 6 from their consoles. The update apparently removed Black Ops 6’s core installation and left behind the Call of Duty HQ launcher, which takes up a lot less space. Black Ops 6 can still be reinstalled alongside download content packs and the multiplayer suite. But given the large amount of added content purchased and downloaded by players since the game’s debut, the amount of file size reduction might vary from player to player.

PlayStation 5 players: with today’s Call of Duty update, you need to go to Mange Installs and re-install Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Pack.
The pack is 98GB download, but will only take up 27GB on the console after install. pic.twitter.com/VRA2IBeZcl

— CharlieIntel (@charlieINTEL) September 4, 2025

The Version 1.080 update also includes aspects that may be more well-received, including bug fixes, balancing tweaks, a new multiplayer map, and more modes like Reckoning Directed for zombies.

Some fans were recently upset to learn that the Carry Forward option for weapon and operator skins purchased in Black Ops 6 won’t be carried over to Black Ops 7. And the life cycle for Black Ops 6 is winding down now that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to launch on November 14 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle update adds new difficulty, improved hair and more

by admin September 5, 2025

While Silksong may be dominating the headlines, yesterday also saw the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s DLC, known as The Order of Giants. The developer has released an update for the base game across platforms which along with enabling compatibility for the DLC, also adds a new action experience difficulty, among other bits and pieces.

This action experience difficulty is called “very light”, and is designed for “players who prefer to be challenged by the exploration and puzzle solving” rather than combat.

Another new feature is support for RTX Hair on 50-series Nvidia RTX GPUs, which enables ray-tracing on a characters’ barnet and makes it look more realistic.

Then we have a number of fixes and improvements across the board. For example, the Great Circle team has fixed an issue where Indy’s whip may not animate correctly later in the game if you had died during the Dart Trap in Peru.

You can find full details on the latest Indiana Jones and the Great Circle update below:

New Features

  • This update enables compatibility with The Order of Giants DLC, available for purchase separately now
  • We’ve added a new “Very Light” action experience difficulty for players who prefer to be challenged by the exploration and puzzle solving, and prefer not to find the combat too challenging
  • This update adds support for RTX Hair on 50-series Nvidia RTX GPUs. This is a high-end rendering feature to enable ray-tracing on character’s hair for a more realistic appearance. We recommend enabling this feature only on higher-end GPUs with 16GB of VRAM or more. You can find the option for “Ray Traced Hair” in the “Advanced Video Settings” menu.
  • New Radio MCs have been added to the Jazz and Opera radio stations found on radio sets in Marshall College and the Vatican. You can also now tune the Vatican radio sets to hear news broadcasts that cover the events from the around the game’s world.
  • We’ve added information to the Quick Inventory to let you know which of your outfits and disguises are safe or restricted in the current area you find yourself in

Bug Fixes and Game Updates (please note that these can provide minor spoilers for the game)

General

  • Fixed an issue where fast-travel signposts may become unusable if a player died while the combat timer was cooling down. Restarting a checkpoint will make the signposts usable again now.
  • Fixed issue where markers for the Open Season and Sleight of Hand adventure books may not appear if the player had already purchased the Vatican Books map before installing Update 4 of the game
  • Fixed an issue where, if you have the Punch Out 2 ability, the controls could get locked if you died in the middle of doing a stealth takedown on an enemy
  • Fixed an issue where mantling/vaulting at the same time as you’re placing an object down might cause the object to disappear or cause controls to get stuck
  • Fixed an issue where Indy’s whip may not animate correctly later in the game if you had died during the Dart Trap in Peru, or during the last stage of the final fight with Voss
  • Fixed a slight animation snap that occurred if tapping the button to raise your candle
  • Indy’s hand now animates when collecting coins from a coin purse

Missions & Quests

The Vatican

  • Fixed an issue where you could block yourself in the Necropolis by throwing the Antique Bust (needed to open a gate) into an unreachable location
  • Fixed an issue where the “Secret of Giants” inscription number counter may not be correct if revisiting the Vatican using a savegame made using Update 3

Gizeh

  • Fixed an issue where the player may be blocked from entering Nawal’s tent if they had died while in combat nearby to the tent
  • Fixed an issue where Gina may not follow you through to the last scorpion room in the Sanctuary of the Guardians mission if you run through the level quickly
  • Fixed an issue where revisiting Gizeh might result in the player appearing in the “buried in sand” scorpion fight once more, but not able to complete it
  • Indy will now give a voice clue about needing to burn objects if trying to pass through the first Stelae tomb before having purchased the Lighter
  • Fixed a crash that might occur in rare circumstances while escaping from the Nazi Compound with Gina
  • Fixed an issue where you may not be able to talk to Professor Savage at the Gizeh Village market in certain circumstances
  • Fixed an issue where the game might crash in rare circumstances if revisiting Gizeh with a savegame that was made while playing the Update 3 version of the game

Nepal

  • Improved Gina’s enter and exit into and from wall-presses, so she doesn’t appear to be making unnatural sidesteps

Sukhothai

  • Fixed an issue where Indy’s whip might detach itself from a branch in the spiral staircase leading down to the “leech room” in the Blessed Pearl mission
  • Fixed camera shaking issue if player tried to dive in shallow water during the first visit to the Sukhothai village at night

Iraq

  • Fixed an issue where the clouds during the end credits appeared in very low detail if you were not using the Higher Resolution Texture Pack (which is not installed on Xbox Series S unless the player chooses to)

UI

  • Fixed an issue where the “continue” button might appear visually corrupted if pausing during a level load
  • Fixed the description of the “Performance Metrics” menu option

Accessibility

  • The in-game Manual text now adjusts to match the player’s choice of enabling/disabling control toggles

Audio

  • Fixed an issue where the sound of plane propellers might be heard persistently in other levels after revisiting Shanghai
  • Gina’s voice lines when using the boat radio in Sukhothai are now radio-processed correctly

PC

  • Fixed an issue where switching between Native TAA and other upscalers (DLSS, XeSS or FSR) might cause a crash on some systems
  • Fixed an issue where Frame Generation might disable when skipping cutscenes or restarting checkpoints
  • Fixed an issue where the glass on Clerical Doors appeared incorrectly when using DLSS Ray Reconstruction
  • Fixed an issue where water caustic reflection effects may not appear on walls when DLSS Ray Reconstruction is used
  • Fixed an issue where applying some ray tracing options while in the Shanghai level may have caused a crash in certain situations
  • Fixed an issue where, if you linked your Steam version saves to your Xbox account, you could temporarily corrupt your saves on one of your devices if quitting a play session before any progress was made in that session

Xbox

  • Fixed an issue where subtitles might briefly flicker between camera cuts in cutscenes

Steam Deck

  • Fixed issue where there may be a black screen for a long while generating shader pipelines during the first launch

Localisation

  • Additional one-liners from Indy when finishing combat are now available in non-English languages too
  • Fixed an issue where controller input was reversed in the Arabic localisation on the “Apply Video Settings” confirmation menu
  • When playing in the Russian language, based on community feedback, the keyboard bindings now always use Latin alphabet characters rather than Cyrillic

Now, if you will excuse me, I am going to play some of the Order of Giants on my lunch break.

Star Trucker’s anniversary update adds wheel and joystick support to the space lorry sim, plus speed cameras

by admin September 5, 2025

Star Trucker, Raw Fury’s answer to what Euro Truck Simulator might look like in the year 3000, is now a year old, and has celebrated that fact with an update that finally lets you whip out your wheel and pedals.

Ever since I gave it a go with a controller prior to letting my Game Pass subscription crumble into dust, this is a day I’ve yearned for. After all, what good are truck sims, be they Euro, American or something more Snowrunnery, if you’re not operating the controls of your great metal haulage beast by flicking flappy gearbox paddles, or sawing away at a circle clearly designed for something a bit sportier?

That’s what this anniversary update for the interstellar hauler delivers, with wheels like the Thrustmaster T128 and flight sticks like VKB’s Gladiator NXT EVO being early additions to the devs’ handy tracking sheet of tested peripherals. There’s also a guide and FAQ rundown from Raw Fury to help folks get their hardware up, running, and fully bound to all the inputs space trucking requires.

Gear recognised by the game should set itself up with default bindings automatically, but I usually find creating my own basic set of essential buttons not that time-consuming, as long as the game wants to acknowledge your wheel exists. Just remember to bind a pause button, and stick the handbrake somewhere your finger can easily hold it when you want to see if your rig can finish a delivery with a 10/10 skid.

As a counterweight to all the wheel and pedal lorry mischief I planned the minute I clocked this update, it also comes with new speed checks. Yep, cameras, fines, the works. These camera checkpoints along the trails of the galaxy will even show you what speed you’re doing as you pass them, though the notes don’t mention if you get shown a little smiley face for not blasting through a Jupiter school zone at 120mph. You can also disable these checks via the settings, if the threat of having to attend a speeding course with the crowd from the Mos Eisley cantina is just too much.

Aside from that, there are a couple of updates to trailers, and a couple of optional truck goodies to commemorate the game’s first birthday. The latter includes a hologrammatic image of a cake you can display in your cab. Just remember to eat plenty before your next long haul.

If you’ve not given Star Trucker a go, our Nic dubbed it “a game that’s much more about the ‘trucker’ of it all than the stars, but the trucker of it all really does shine” in his review, writing:

When you exit the airlock to patch up hull breaches, little white spanner icons mark the offending damage. The symbol that marks the airlock to return to your truck is a home. I noticed it early, and then I kept noticing it. The more I did, the more perfect it felt.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to oversteer that home into an asteroid belt.

As bugs and bad performance spoil an otherwise excellent Helldivers 2 update, Arrowhead CEO says its ‘technical debt is crippling’

by admin September 3, 2025

A major Helldivers 2 update is here, but somebody invited the wrong kind of bugs to the party. The Into the Unjust update takes the fight to Terminid strongholds, plunging Super Earth’s finest into cave systems guarded by acid-spitting bug dragons.

That’s all well and good, but a new wave of bugs (the software kind) is threatening to ruin the good times. Folks are reporting huge, inexplicable framerate drops before and during missions, others are crashing all over the place, and those new cave expeditions have introduced some annoying quirks, like a tendency to respawn on top of the level, where the only option is to fall to your death.

Helldivers 2’s technical state is bad enough that Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani spent hours yesterday responding to complaints in the Helldivers Discord, taking responsibility for the instability and explaining how Helldivers 2 has built up “technical debt” over time.

“Performance is something we’ve talked about a TON today. It’s not good enough. A fix for some of the most immediate things is being prepped,” Jorjani responded to one fan.

“The technical debt is crippling,” he responded to another. “With the Xbox release behind us, we’ll be able to take a much better stab at it. Like a double stab. With a bigger knife.”

In games, tech debt is typically associated with technical problems increasing as a game grows more complex. That’s what Helldivers 2 is going through in a big way, according to Jorjani.

Compared to other games with regular update schedules, Helldivers 2 changes a lot: An average Apex Legends update may add a new character and map element, but Helldivers 2 receives new enemy types, weapons, maps, and missions every few months. It’s enough that a studio of any size would struggle to keep it squeaky clean, and Arrowhead isn’t particularly big.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

That said, Arrowhead isn’t making excuses. In a handful of responses, Jorjani reinforced that he considers the current state of the game unacceptable:

“We’ve been lax in setting standards for what’s fine.”

“This is us trying to get our shit in order: make fun content and keep tech afloat. [We’re] not quite there.”

When asked if Helldivers 2 is due for an “Operation Health” update that focuses solely on performance over content, Jorjani said he’d like to avoid that if possible.

“The way we want to operate is that every update is also a health update. But we didn’t hit the mark with this one.”

“We’d prefer not to have to do a performance-only update, but if that’s something that is needed, we’ll do it. But no one update will tackle all tech debt.”

For what it’s worth, I ran a few missions last night with minimal issues (no crashes or major framerate drops), so it’s not exactly unplayable at the moment, but other bugs that predate yesterday’s update have been grinding our gears, like one that causes audio to get horribly staticky and loud until the mission’s over.

Fingers crossed that the planned hotfix will squash the most pressing problems. Jorjani didn’t give a timeframe for such an update, but given the speed of past hotfixes, I’d be surprised if it didn’t arrive by the end of the week.

Is your iPhone eligible for the update? Check this list

by admin September 3, 2025

In a little under a week, Apple’s iPhone 17 event — which the company has themed “awe dropping” — will be here. It’s confirmed for Tuesday, September 9. If all goes according to plan, we should also get to download iOS 26 and iPad 26 about a week after the event. Coming with the OS 26es are huge upgrades to your iPhone and iPad’s operating systems. You’ve heard of Liquid Glass, right? It’s like the better-executed version of the Windows Vista design motif and definitely one of the cooler features coming this fall. We spent two weeks test-driving it — you can check out our detailed hands-on iOS 26 preview, or you can try it out yourself by downloading and installing the newly released public beta 6. That software is a more stable iteration of the separate developer version, which recently hit the beta 9 waypoint, and offers a few more flashy features not yet available in the public version. (While the public beta is open to everyone and quite stable, always remember there’s a degree of risk involved with beta software.) Additionally, there are credible reports that iOS 26 could bring a new live translation feature to AirPods, too. Not sure if you want to upgrade your smartphone or tablet this year? No worries, we’ll help you find out if your devices will be able to run iOS 26.

While Apple didn’t nix any iPhones from its eligibility list last year, that’s not the case for 2025 — a few models are getting cut this time. All iPhone 8 models and the iPhone X were the last to get the boot in 2023, and this year the 2018 models are getting left behind. If you have an ineligible device, you won’t be able to download iOS 26 when it becomes available this fall.

We’ll get to the bottom of which iPhones and iPads will support iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 this year. To see what’s coming with the latest OSes, check out everything announced at Apple’s WWDC June 9 event. One thing you shouldn’t immediately expect is Apple’s updated version of Siri, though the company is reportedly working on a ‘stripped-down’ AI chatbot to compete with ChatGPT.

These three iOS 18 iPhones won’t be compatible with iOS 26

Unlike last year, several iPhone models won’t be eligible to download the newest iOS when it makes its debut in September. This trio of models first released in 2018 won’t be coming to the iOS 26 party:

iPhones compatible with iOS 26

While we don’t yet know the new iPhones Apple will be dropping next month — though there are iPhone 17 rumors — we do know, per Apple’s site, that the phones listed below will be compatible with iOS 26. Basically, if you have an iPhone that was announced in 2019 or later, you’re in the clear:

  • iPhone SE (second generation or later)

iPads compatible with iPadOS 26

The iPads listed below, and any iPads released later this year, are eligible to download iPadOS 26.

  • iPad Pro 12.9‑inch (3rd generation and later)

  • iPad Pro 11‑inch (1st generation and later)

  • iPad Air (3rd generation and later, including M2 and M3)

  • iPad (8th generation and later, including A16)

  • iPad mini (5th generation and later, including A17 Pro)

What if I don’t want to buy a new iPhone?

If you want to continue using your older iPhone that isn’t supported by iOS 26, that’s fine. However, you’ll miss out on security updates which could potentially put your phone at risk for malware and other threats. Additionally, some apps may stop working if they require a certain version of iOS or later. And of course, you won’t be able to access the latest features iOS 26 offers.

When will iOS 26 become available?

Apple usually rolls out its latest iOS in mid-September, just a few days before the new iPhones hit store shelves. Last year, it released iOS 18 on Monday, Sept. 16. If it follows suit this year, we should have access to the new operating system on Tuesday, Sept. 16 — exactly one week after the event.

Expect a confirmation of the release date at the iPhone 17 event on September 9.

iOS 26 features we’re excited about

Liquid Glass design: Your home screen is getting revamped with new app icons, including dark mode and all-clear options. You’ll also notice buttons with a new floating design. Liquid Glass was designed to make all of Apple’s OSes more cohesive.

Phone app redesign: You’ll finally be able to scroll through contacts, recent calls and voicemail messages all on one screen. It also comes with a new feature called Hold Assist that’ll notify you when an agent comes to the phone so you can avoid the elevator music.

Live Translate: iOS 26 is bringing the ability to have a conversation via phone call or text message with someone who speaks another language. Live Translate will translate your conversation in real time.

Polls feature: Coming to group messages in the Messages app, chat members will be able to create polls. This can help prevent the unwanted 30+ messages when it comes to deciding which restaurant you’re meeting at this weekend.

New lock screen options: More customizable iPhone lock screen options are coming with iOS 26, including a cooler clock, 3D wallpaper effects, more widgets and better focus mode options.

Snooze longer (or shorter): Say goodbye to the 9-minute snooze setting in your alarms (if you want). You’ll soon have the option to change your snooze time from one to 15 minutes.

Fresh Camera app design: You’ll find the Camera app is simpler to navigate in iOS 26, with all the buttons and menus located in convenient spots. That means less swiping, more photo taking. Plus, there’s a new feature that tells you if your lens is too dirty.

Arrowhead will target Helldivers 2’s “crippling” tech issues now Xbox release is sorted, but would rather not do a “performance-only update”

by admin September 3, 2025

Shams Jorjani, boss of Helldivers 2 developers Arrowhead, has taken to Discord to address the rise in reports of performance issues following the arrival of the shooter’s Into the Unjust update. In addition to admitting that the new addition has missed the mark from a stability pespective, the exec added that the game’s Xbox release now being in the rear view mirror should free up more resources to tackle performance problems.

Since the Terminid spelunking expedition-themed update arrived yesterday, players have cited an uptick in crashes that Arrowhead are already looking into, with the installation size the game’s ballooned to on PC and your usual sorts of pesky bugs also being sources of ire, at least among vocal online Helldivers.

In light of that, Arrowhead CEO Jorjani made one of his fairly regular trips to Helldivers 2’s Discord server last night, to address some of the concerns folks there were raising. “Performance is something we’ve talked about a TON today. It’s not good enough,” he admitted fairly early on. “A fix for some of the most immediate things is being prepped.”

“Nobody is saying ‘this is fine’ at Arrowhead or PlayStation,” he added an a separate post. “We are talking about what to do differently – cus we really want to release content AND keep performance in line. With [the] Xbox release behind us more resources will be available.” Jorjani made the last point a number of times, when discussing fixes for performance issues that’ve drawn ire from players on and off for a while, but have come to a head with this update.

The update isn’t the root cause of the issues. Instead, the CEO links them to a build-up of engine-related limitations he calls “technical debt”. “The technical debt is crippling,” he wrote in another of these many posts. “With the Xbox release behind us we’ll be able to take a much better stab at it. Like a double stab with a bigger knife.”

Jorjani reckons a single massive performance-focused update – something he said Arrowhead would “prefer not to have to do”, but will if it’s “needed” – wouldn’t be enough to tackle all of this tech debt. He also suggested that pulling all the game’s developers off of creating new additions, like warbonds, and putting them onto fixes isn’t the simple solution it might seem, writing: “if we could put every single soul on just performance/stability and significantly improve those we would – but not everyone can make an impact on performance and the issues that need to be fixed are complex and take time to work at.”

I didn’t run into any major issues while dipping my toe into the update last night, but here’s hoping Arrowhead can offer some performance relief soon. For now, their CEO doesn’t reckon this uptick in player dissatisfaction has put the shooter back in as dire straits as it found itself following the Escalation of Freedom update last year. The studio ended up unveiling a 60-day plan of tweaks, in an effort to turn around player sentiment back then.

While acknowledging there are “definitely some similarities” between the two situations, Jorjani argued that this time it at least isn’t a double whammy of player frustrations about how the game plays mechanic-wise and how it runs. “Since then, I think it’s safe to say we’ve fixed one thing and kept wobbling on the other,” he wrote. “I hope we proved back then that we won’t give up till we get it right.”
