Warhammer 40K unveils Boltgun 2, tactical RPG Dark Heresy, and, yes, a free typing game

by admin May 22, 2025

It’s been a busy day in the grimdark world of Warhammer 40K, thanks to its latest video game focused Warhammer Skulls showcase. Not only have we learned a couple of classics getting a spruce-up, there’s brand-new stuff coming too, including a Boltgun sequel, new tactical RPG Dark Heresy, plus a smattering of fresh DLC.

Warhammer 40K: Boltgun 2, which seems as good a place as any to start, is exactly what it sounds like – a follow-up to developer Auroch Digital’s acclaimed 2023 retro shooter Boltgun. Details are relatively limited at present, but it’ll pick up immediately after the events of the first game, and offer another helping of old-school-inspired FPS action over the course of its branching single-player campaign. There’s talk of new locations – “from the colossal heights of a hive city to the impenetrable mangrove swamps of a jungle” – plus new weapons and never-before-seen foes, including the ferocious Bloodletters and their daemonic Juggernauts.

All that’s coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC sometime in 2026. However! There’s an extra – and more immediate – treat for Boltgun fans in the form of Boltgun: Words of Vengeance. This “first person typer” twist on the retro shooter – in which players must deploy their QWERTY skills for maximum carnage – is entirely free and available to download on Steam today.

Elsewhere in the gloomy world of Warhammer 40K, developer Owlcat has announced Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy, a “narrative-driven tactical RPG” set against the backdrop of the Noctis Aeterna and the mystery of the Tyrant Star. “Players will lead a warband of diverse companions in a desperate battle against heresy and corruption,” the studio explains, “from loyal Imperial subjects, such as a veteran Guardsman from the death world of Catachan, to nefarious xenos, including a bird-like Kroot mercenary.”

There’s talk of full voice acting, “intricate investigations”, turn-based combat, and “choices that carry grave consequences”, all said to build on the ideas introduced in Owlcat’s Rogue Trader. And if that sounds intriguing, Dark Heresy is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Steam, GOG, and Epic) at some currently undisclosed future point.

Speaking of Rogue Trader, Owlcat has also announced a 24th June release date for the game’s second expansion, Lex Imperialis. This introduces a faction of “incorruptible enforcers” known as the Adeptus Arbites, plus a new companion – Solomorne Anthar – across its 15-hour storyline. Additionally, the studio has revealed it’s working on a Season Pass 2 for Rogue Trader, bundling together an appearance customisation pack and two more 15-hour expansions – each featuring new quests and a new companion. The first of these expansions takes players to a Necron vault curated by Trazyn the Infinite, where they’ll encounter ancient guardians and uncover relics relating to the Von Valancius legacy. The second new expansion promises a “descent into madness and mystery” as they explore a “surreal” voidship graveyard.

And while we’re on the subject of DLC, there’s one last bit of business to discuss in the form of Space Marine 2’s new Siege mode. This “endless” PvE mode for the acclaimed shooter unfolds on Kadaku, where three players must survive against ever-more-deadly waves of Tyranid and Chaos as they attempt to defend an Imperial fortress. It’ll be playable on Steam via developer Saber Interactive’s Public Test Server starting 4th June, and it gets its full release across all platforms as part of a free update on 26th June.

All of which pretty much covers the big Warhammer 40K news, but it’s probably also worth mentioning there are currently significant discounts across a huge number of Warhammer games on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC as part of today’s Warhammer Day celebrations.

Roblox unveils new head of parental advocacy position “to support families navigating digital safety”

by admin May 22, 2025

Roblox has appointed its first head of parental advocacy, Dr. Elizabeth Milovidov.

Based in the UK, Roblox said the new role was designed “to strengthen support for families navigating digital safety and online wellbeing” and will be “building partnerships and tools to empower parents to help their children use digital platforms safely and responsibly.”

Roblox said its “top priority has been to promote the safety and civility of its users on the platform,” and pointed to its recently introduced parental controls.

Milovidov, with a background in international law, joins Roblox from the Lego Group, where she led on digital gaming, metaverse strategy, and child safety.

“I am excited to join Roblox to address the evolving challenges families face in today’s digital landscape,” Dr. Milovidov said. “It is my personal mission to give parents the confidence and skills to raise children who thrive online while using technology safely and responsibly – today and tomorrow. This role underscores Roblox’s commitment to supporting parents with expert guidance, innovative tools, and community resources focused on child safety and family well-being.”

Tami Bhaumik, Roblox’s VP of civility and partnerships, added: “Ensuring parents have the necessary tools to navigate the digital world has always been foundational to Roblox’s Civility Initiative.

“We’re thrilled to have Elizabeth, with her digital parenting expertise, join Roblox to further help parents understand the platform and provide guidance to their children on staying safe and thriving in the online world.”

The news comes weeks after a US teenager initiated a lawsuit against Roblox and Discord, claiming the companies are “accountable for facilitating the sexual exploitation of Plaintiff, who was a minor at the time of the abuse and is now barely an adult.”

Roblox recently published its financial report for the first quarter of the fiscal year, reporting strong growth across the board, including over $1 billion in revenue.

AMD unveils Radeon RX 9060 XT at Computex 2025

by admin May 21, 2025

AMD has unveiled its 9060 XT GPU at Computex 2025. The midrange GPU will be the clear competitor to Nvidia’s 5060 Ti and goes toe-to-toe with it on almost every spec. Built on AMD’s 4-nanometer RDNA 4 silicon, the 9060 XT will pack 32 compute units, along with 64 dedicated AI accelerators and 32 ray-tracing cores.

AMD

Notably, the RX 9060 XT will ship in 8GB and 16GB GDDR6 versions, whereas Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti uses faster 28 Gb/s GDDR7, delivering roughly 40 percent more bandwidth (448 GB/s vs. approximately 322 GB/s) on the same 128-bit bus. We’ll have to wait for some side-by-side performance comparisons before drawing any strong conclusions from those specs.

AMD has listed the 9060 XT’s boost clock at speeds up to 3.13 GHz. The GPU boasts 821 TOPS for AI workloads and will draw a modest 150 to 182 watts from the board. The card will connect via PCIe 5.0 x16 and supports the now-standard DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b. Based on these initial specs, the 9060 XT should be a solid entry for games running at 1080p and a decent option for those at 1440p. Those wishing to play at 4K should still opt for the Radeon RX 9070 or 9070 XT.

Pricing and exact release timelines have not yet been announced.

Google Unveils Android XR Glasses with Gemini AI Integration

by admin May 21, 2025

In brief

  • At Google I/O, Google demos Android XR glasses with Gemini AI for translation, navigation, media, and real-time help.
  • The glasses are in beta testing and Google plans to release them with eyewear brands Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker.
  • Google is positioning Android XR to rival Meta’s AI glasses.

Google unveiled Android XR, a new extended reality platform designed to integrate its Gemini AI into wearable devices such as smart glasses and headsets.

During its 2025 I/O developer conference on Tuesday, the tech giant showcased the Android XR glasses, the company’s first eyewear set since the ill-fated Google Glass smart glasses in 2023.

During the presentation, Shahram Izadi, Vice President and General Manager at Android XR, highlighted the need for portability and quick access to information without relying on a phone.

“When you’re on the go, you’ll want lightweight glasses that can give you timely information without reaching for your phone,” he said. “We built Android XR together as one team with Samsung and optimized it for Snapdragon with Qualcomm.”

Google first announced Android XR in December 2024. The reveal arrived eight months after Meta released the latest version of its Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses—a sign of growing competition in the wearable AI space.

Like Meta’s AI glasses, the Android XR glasses include a camera, microphones, and speakers and can connect to an Android device.

Google’s flagship AI, Gemini, provides real-time information, language translation, and an optional in-lens display that shows information when needed.

During the presentation, Google also showed off the Android XR glasses live streaming capabilities, as well as their ability to take photos, receive text messages, and display Google Maps.

Google also demonstrated how Gemini can complement exploration and navigation through immersive experiences.

“With Google Maps in XR, you can teleport anywhere in the world simply by asking Gemini to take you there,” Izadi said. “You can talk with your AI assistant about anything you see and have it pull up videos and websites about what you’re exploring.”

While Google did not announce a release date or price, Izadi said the glasses would be available through partnerships with South Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster and U.S. brand Warby Parker, adding that a developer platform for Android XR is in development.

“We’re creating the software and reference hardware platform to enable the ecosystem to build great glasses alongside us,” Parker said. “Our glasses prototypes are already being used by trusted testers, and you’ll be able to start developing for glasses later this year.”

Razer unveils new Blade 14 laptop with Nvidia RTX 50 series GPUs and 3K 120Hz OLED display

by admin May 20, 2025

At Computex 2025, Razer has taken the covers off its brand new Razer Blade 14, the company’s thinnest-ever 14-inch laptop. Available in different configurations, the new Blade 14 includes Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5060 or 5070 laptop GPUs, paired with AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 365 processor.

Razer says it has fully redesigned the Blade 14, creating the company’s thinnest-ever laptop, measuring just 15.7mm at its slimmest points. The Blade 14 weighs in at just 1.63 kg, too, and is milled from a single block of T6-grade aluminum.

Despite the small form factor, Razer has employed new “Thermal Hood” design, paired with a large vapor chamber. The company claims that this will provide “ample ventilation and additional thermal headroom for maximum operating performance,” thanks to better heat management and airflow.

The new Blade 14’s battery life is rated for up to 11 hours of on-screen time, thanks to a 72 Whr battery. The thin-and-light also offers ample connectivity options, like two USB 4 (Type-C) connectors, HDMI 2.1, Bluetooth 5.4, and Wi-Fi 7.

Under the hood, the new Blade 14 comes with Nvidia’s latest 50 series mobile chips, with RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 flavors. Both mobile GPUs possess a TGP of 100W, with an additional 15W “Dynamic boost”

That means any prospective buyers will get all the benefits of the Nvidia Blackwell architecture, as well as DLSS 4’s multi-frame generation.

That’s paired with AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 365 processor, which sports 10 cores and 20 threads, and possesses a 2 GHZ base clock, which can be boosted up to 5 GHz in optimal conditions. RAM is not user-upgradable, and can be configured between 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of LPDDR5X at 8000 MHz.

That all powers a 14-inch, three layer OLED display running at 2880 x 1800. The panel supports Nvidia G-Sync and has a refresh rate of 120Hz, as well as a 0.2ms response time. The display also offers a 1M:1 contrast ratio and wide 100% DCI-P3 color coverage.

Whether all that will be enough to knock the Asus TUF Gaming A14 off its perch as the top 14-inch model in our best gaming laptop rundown remains to be seen.

As mentioned, Razer is also adding an RTX 5060 option to its Razer Blade 16, paired with the same processor and RAM options as the Blade 14. However, the display differs, instead sporting a QHD+ 240 Hz OLED display.

If you were wondering where to buy the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060, it launched yesterday along with the long-awaited driver, which has precluded reviews and testing ahead of release. While carefully controlled previews of the 5060 point to performance gains of up to 25% over the 4060, real-world performance is yet to be established.

Prices for the Blade 14 start at $2,299.99 for the RTX 5060 model. The 5070 version is $2,699, and you can also spec up to 2TB of SSD storage.
