Helldivers 2’s Into the Unjust update has caused an uptick in crashes, and Arrowhead are “working to isolate fixes”

Helldivers 2’s Terminid spelunking update, dubbed Into the Unjust, has dropped from orbit today, September 2nd. Sadly, that hellpod’s impact with the game’s surface looks to have triggered an uptick in crash reports, and Arrowhead are now busy “working to isolate fixes”.

If you missed the update’s announcement the other day, Edwin was strapped into the news driver’s seat at the time, and has a nice rundown of what’s in it here. He even consulted some very real geographers, the absolute pro. The short version? Terminid cave missions on Hive Worlds to aid Super Earth’s efforts to fight an evil cloud, and some new enemies flying around.

Sadly, as Arrowhead have been admirably transparent about in the past, new additions to Helldivers 2 tend to bring with them a helping of new issues that need shooting into submission. Into the Unjust’s been no different, with a wave of fresh crash reports leading community manager Katherine Baskin to let players know via Discord that the devs are on the case.

“We are aware of the issues with crashing, which are NOT in accordance with Super Earth Standards and we are working to isolate fixes now. We apologize for this delay and will report back with updates soon,” she wrote. Phew, now the many folks writing their own individual Reddit posts about encountering crashes can chill out a bit.

Speaking of the Helldivers 2 subreddit, in my trip there to check just how widespread the crash chatter was, I ran into a number of folks also registering their unhappiness at quite how beefy the game’s file size is getting on PC. As someone who’s had the update installing onto my games box since late this morning, and as of yet hasn’t had it finish patching all of its files, that really hit me where I live.

It’d be unwise to assume that the file size is the only factor contributing to Helldivers 2 taking a while to update – I’m usually the first to go the other way and assume the problem must be on my end – but given a thread on the subject’s amassed 9.1k upvotes and just under 800 comments in about six hours, landing near the top of the subreddit, it’s maybe worth Arrowhead looking into. That said, in my case there’s also the fact I’ve been using my PC to do my job while Into the Unjust’s been downloading, and that may well have had an impact.

Regardless, I’ve got some bug spelunking planned for tonight, so you may well hear about my travails if anything noteworthy or wacky happens.

Helldivers 2 Into the Unjust update takes the battle to the alien Hive Worlds

A new major update for Helldivers 2 has been unveiled, which will finally take the battle to the home of Super Earth’s enemies.


Into the Unjust will see players explore the Hive Worlds behind the Gloom, to the home of the insect-like Terminids. That means battling through an underground labyrinth of cave tunnels without Super Destroyer support from the skies.


News of the update arrives on the same day Helldivers 2 releases on Xbox Series X/S. Into the Unjust will arrive on 2nd September.

The update will bring a whole bunch of new enemy types, as well as new mission types. Players will need to locate and destroy the Hive Lung in the tunnels to stem the spread of the Gloom, as well as escorting a mobile oil rig across treacherous terrain.


The update will also arrive with a new Dust Devils premium Warbond. This will include a primary weapon, a new throwable, and three unique strategems, in addition to new armours, capes, and more – details in the image below.

ODST warbond available, and big new update Into the Unjust unveiled

Helldivers 2 took over on PC and PlayStation last year, and now it’s taking over Xbox. Launching today, Helldivers 2 brings with it a Halo: ODST crossover and warbond. Beyond that, Arrowhead also revealed a new update that will bring a new zone in and more items in another warbond. It’s a good time to be a Helldiver.

Enter the Gloom

It’s finally time to discover what lies behind the Gloom shroud enveloping these planets we call Hive Worlds. Prepare your squad to disappear into the fog and discover new dangers, from towering structures built by Terminids to what horrors lurk beneath the planet surfaces. 

Into the heart of darkness

Deep underground lies a labyrinth of cave tunnels that twist and turn, infested with the Hive Lung that seems to be the force that produces the thickening fog that makes up the Gloom.

Because of the nature of the caves, your Super Destroyer won’t be able to give you full support. It’ll be your team alone against the horror.

Terrors above and below

What little intelligence we have on the Gloom contains information about a new subterranean species of Terminid Warriors, Bile Spewers, and Chargers that, when they detect a threat, will burrow underground and begin moving toward prey. Once close enough, they erupt from the ground and attack.

It doesn’t stop there. The Gloom has mutated the Terminids even further, into grotesque monsters like the Dragonroach: a menace in the sky that dives unsuspecting Helldivers and rains down burning bile.

Our reports indicate that there are even greater, more terrifying creatures lying in wait on Hive Worlds, Helldiver. You must find them and take them out.

Taking back Hive Worlds

The Helldivers will also face brand new challenges while liberating Hive Worlds, like escorting a mobile oil rig. Helldivers must defend the rig from attacks while it traverses the treacherous Hive World terrain to the next drill site, where it will extract oil.

Meanwhile in the underground, you’ll be forced to locate and destroy the Hive Lung in an effort to stem the spread of the Gloom. There are also new optional and sub-objectives available, too.

It’s going to take all your determination and teamwork to stop the
infestation from spreading any further and liberate the Hive Worlds. Get ready to dive Into the Unjust1 on September 2, Helldivers.

Introducing the Dust Devils Premium Warbond

We’re not sending you to a Hive World without the best gear we have to offer, Helldiver. The Ministry of Defense has fast-tracked the deployment of the Dust Devils Warbond2, which will ensure survival in the harshest conditions these worlds can throw your way.

Weapons and Stratagems

Dust Devils comes with a hefty offering of one primary weapon, a new throwable, and three unique stratagems that will aid in clearing the air–and all the bugs–on Hive Worlds.

Armors, Capes, and more

Whether you’re crouched behind craggy boulders, waiting for your moment to spring a trap on unsuspecting Terminids or marching in formation with your squad to intimidate them, they’ll look the part.
