Xbox Series X/S Is Going Up In Price Again In The United States

by admin September 21, 2025

Just four months after the last time it did it, Xbox is raising the prices of the Series X/S consoles in the United States to a number I don’t think any of us could have fathomed in 2019 when Microsoft announced the system at the Game Awards.

Microsoft announced this on the Xbox support website, saying that the price changes will go into effect on October 3, and are “due to changes in the macroeconomic environment.”

The new prices are as follows:

  • Xbox Series S 512 $399.99 (up $20 from $379.99)
  • Xbox Series S 1TB $449.99 (up $20 from 429.99)
  • Xbox Series X Digital $599.99 (up $50 from $549.99)
  • Xbox Series X $649.99 (up $50 from $599.99)
  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition $799.99 (up $70 from $729.99)

We can probably infer that the “macroeconomic environment” Microsoft gestures at is related to the Trump administration’s tariffs that are affecting a lot of video game companies, not just Xbox. PlayStation 5s also saw a similar price increase just last month. That said, Xbox raising the price of the Xbox Series X/S not once, but twice in just one year is absolutely bonkers. Remember when consoles used to get cheaper as a generation went on? Usually, by now, five years into a console’s lifetime, it would have probably seen at least one price drop. Now games are becoming more expensive and more unaffordable for a lot of people. We live in backwards times.

If you were planning on getting an Xbox Series X or S, you’ve got a couple of weeks left before the price change takes effect. Though I’d also understand if this made you not want to buy one at all.

TRENDING RUMORS

– Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has emerged as a January target for Manchester United, according to TEAMtalk. With winter moves for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton deemed unlikely, Anderson is regarded as a potential solution to United’s current midfield crisis. Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is set to be given the funds to try and sign Anderson for around £70 million, although Forest might not be willing to let him go following his impressive start to the season. The 22-year-old made his international debut for England earlier this month, starring in a pair of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.

– Liverpool could be set to enter the race for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, TEAMtalk has revealed. The Cameroon international has been heavily linked with Manchester United this summer, but it is reported that their Premier League rivals are now also tracking his progress. A move for Baleba in January isn’t expected to be sanctioned, as Brighton remain “extremely reluctant” to let him go midway through the season. Nevertheless, an offer in excess of £100 million may be enough to secure a deal for the talented 21-year-old next summer.

– AC Milan are plotting a €15 million move for Udinese defender Thomas Kristensen in January, says Gazzetta dello Sport. The 6-foot-6 Denmark international has impressed so far this season, and will face off against Milan this weekend where scouts will be watching. Kristensen, 23, was also wanted by Aston Villa this summer, although the Premier League side didn’t officially lodge a bid, and he is under contract at Udinese until June 2028.

– Manchester United pulled out of a move to sign goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before he chose Manchester City, says the Daily Telegraph. Donnarumma, 26, moved from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of around £26m in the summer, but the total financial package including his wages would have been around £130m and that was too much for United.

– Newcastle United remain interested in Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, says Football Insider. While the Red Devils are unlikely to sanction a loan deal in January, it is thought a “lucrative” offer for a permanent transfer could soften their stance. Mainoo is targeting regular first-team football this season, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon. Mainoo, 20, was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s most recent England squad.

– Arsenal center back William Saliba is an option for Real Madrid in 2026, despite having brought in Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alvaro Carreras to strengthen the backline this summer. There are “various names on the agenda” but says one of them is Saliba, with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté being a “cheap alternative” as he’ll be out of contract next year. (AS)

– Real Madrid are scouting Inter Milan striker Francesco Pio Esposito, who has drawn comparisons to Joselu within the club. (Defensa Central)

Man United have let goalkeeper problem fester. Will Onana exit solve anything?

by admin September 8, 2025

It says everything about Manchester United’s success rate with goalkeepers that André Onana might not claim the distinction of being the club’s worst No. 1 during the Premier League era. But it is undeniable that the team’s dismal record over the last two years has coincided with the 29-year-old’s period in goal.

There are many key ingredients for a successful team. Two of the most important are the ability to score goals and keep them out of your own net. Pretty simple, right? Score more than the other side and stop them scoring while you do it.

United spent over £200 million this summer on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, in an attempt to upgrade on the woeful attacking options that recorded just 44 goals in 38 league games last season. But, despite conceding 54 goals, the goalkeeping problem was allowed to fester.

– Is Man United’s overhauled attack enough for Amorim to succeed?
– 50 most expensive transfers of summer window, ranked by true cost
– Warm-up kits: Rating the good, bad and ugly from across Europe

Every game so far this season has been impacted by a mistake from the man chosen to wear the gloves by head coach Ruben Amorim. Whether it be Altay Bayindir, the error-prone Turkey international who played in United’s three league games, or Onana in the Carabao Cup, the story has been the same; incompetence in goal that has led to a series of negative results.

But as former Ajax and Inter Milan keeper Onana prepares to leave United for a season-long loan deal with Turkish Super Lig team Trabzonspor, the Cameroon international’s exit will only serve to highlight the mess that Amorim has been left to untangle in arguably the most important position in his team.

One of Pep Guardiola’s priority tasks at Manchester City this summer was to rebuild his team’s goalkeeping department. The club signed the man regarded as England’s next No. 1 — James Trafford, from Burnley — and another viewed by many as the best in the world, Paris Saint-Germain and Italy keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Amorim, similarly concerned by United’s goalkeeping options, wanted the club to seal a deal for Argentina No. 1 Emiliano Martínez, but a low-ball loan offer early in the window failed to persuade Aston Villa to do business. There was only the briefest of enquiries about Donnarumma’s intentions when it became clear that PSG would listen to offers following their €40 million signing of Lille’s Lucas Chevalier.

In the end, despite Martínez being open to a move to Old Trafford in the final hours of the transfer window, United chose to sign Senne Lammens, the 23-year-old Belgium under-21 international from Antwerp in a deal worth £18.2 million. Sources in Belgium have told ESPN that while Lammens is regarded as a potential long-term successor to Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois for the national team, he is still raw and, according to one source, “unconvincing when dealing with crosses.”

After two error-strewn seasons as No. 1 at Old Trafford, André Onana is going out on loan. But Manchester United’s goalkeeping problems remain. David Ramos/Getty Images

United, meanwhile, have repeatedly stressed that Lammens is “one for the future” and a youngster who will be given time to adapt to the challenge of playing in the Premier League for a club that places unique pressure on their goalkeepers. Whenever a new keeper arrives at Old Trafford, he is standing on the shoulder of giants such as Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar and David de Gea — three of the Premier League’s all-time greats — but Onana’s performances over the past two years have placed even greater scrutiny on the position.

Had the club made a late move for Martínez, the 33-year-old FIFA World Cup winner’s presence, reputation and big-game experience may have been the perfect solution in terms of enabling Lammens to acclimatise to English football before being thrown in at the deep end. But as Amorim prepares for Sunday’s clash with Manchester City at the Etihad, he is faced with a hugely difficult decision as to whether to start with the unconvincing Bayindir or hand Lammens his debut in the unforgiving arena of a derby. Guardiola has no such concerns about Trafford or Donnarumma.

Yet United, rather than Amorim, only have themselves to blame for the situation their coach is having to address. A United source has told ESPN that Bayindir was only signed in September 2023 for a low fee of £4.3 million from Fenerbahce because the club needed somebody to compete with Tom Heaton as the backup keeper after Jack Butland had vacated the role earlier in the summer to join Rangers.

Bayindir’s subsequent performances for United have shown that he is not equipped to be No. 1, while 39-year-old Heaton has been continually overlooked. But if Lammens is deemed to be “one for the future,” Amorim has been left without a goalkeeper he can truly rely upon.

Onana, a £47 million replacement for the departing De Gea in 2023, never suggested himself to be good enough to be the first-choice keeper at a club of United’s stature. His Premier League debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers was marked by a mistake, when he missed a corner and accidentally clattered into Sasa Kalajdzic only for the match officials — who were demoted for the next game — to miss the incident and not award a penalty.

After a stream of errors over two full seasons leading to goals, Onana’s most recent performance was the humiliating Carabao Cup defeat against League Two club Grimsby Town last month. He was at fault for two goals before saving just one of 13 penalties in a 12-11 shootout defeat, so it was simply a case of him finishing his time at the club as he began — with questions being asked of his competence.

Massimo Taibi, Mark Bosnich, Fabien Barthez and Roy Carroll all made too many mistakes to be a successful United keeper — Taibi only lasted four games, despite being recommended to the club by Martin Ferguson, former manager Sir Alex’s brother, who was the club’s senior European scout at the time. But Onana has been erratic and unreliable from the moment he pulled on a United shirt and the only surprise is that it has taken so long for him to be moved on.

His exit is certainly a problem solved for Amorim, but United have not fixed the bigger one because they haven’t signed a keeper who is more likely to be another Schmeichel or Van der Sar rather than another Bosnich or Barthez.

TRENDING RUMORS

– Manchester United are targeting a future move for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, TEAMtalk reports. The Red Devils were considering a bid in the summer, but Brighton were demanding more than £100 million as they didn’t want to lose the Cameroon international. However, the “next phase” of Ruben Amorim’s squad rebuild could see 21-year-old Baleba emerge as the club’s top target, while Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace) and Morten Hjulmand (Sporting CP) have also been shortlisted. The report says that United are willing to smash their transfer record — the £89.3 million paid for Paul Pogba in August 2016 — to bring in a top-quality midfielder.

– Manchester United have not “closed all avenues” to a potential André Onana exit, according to TEAMTalk. Several transfer windows around the world remain open, most notably in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, presenting a possible opportunity for the out-of-favour stopper. While a move isn’t said to be imminent, the situation remains fluid and could change over the following weeks. Onana’s future at Man United has been thrown into fresh doubt following the arrival of Belgian youth international Senne Lammens from Antwerp.

– Trabzonspor are exploring a deal for Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, as per Florian Plettenberg. The Germany international is “evaluating the option,” although no formal offer has been presented just yet. Ortega, 32, is likely to be City’s third-choice goalkeeper this season following the arrival of James Trafford and Gianluigi Donnarumma. Trabzonspor, meanwhile, have also shortlisted Konyaspor stopper Deniz Ertas.

– Eintracht Frankfurt have rejected a €60 million bid from Al Ittihad for winger Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, Rudy Galetti has revealed. The 20-year-old has had a flying start this season, scoring two goals in his first two Bundesliga games. As such, Eintracht value him closer to the €80 million mark, having signed him in January 2024 from Angers. Bahoya, who is under contract until June 2029, is keen to stay at Eintracht in order to feature in this season’s Champions League.

– Al Ittihad have struck a verbal agreement to sign Zenit St Petersburg forward Pedro Henrique, Santi Aouna reports. However, while the Saudi club and player are pushing to secure a deal now, the Zenit board are instead blocking a move until the mid-season window. Pedro, 19, has already agreed terms with Al Ittihad, who have until Sept. 10 to secure a deal before the Saudi window shuts. The player has been at Zenit since February 2024, scoring six goals in 43 league games for the Russian side.

Crypto Industry Urges National Stablecoin Plan For The United Kingdom To Compete With US

by admin August 21, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

In a recent open letter to Finance Minister Rachel Reeves, figures from the cryptocurrency industry are calling for the United Kingdom (UK) to develop a national stablecoin strategy, seen as essential for positioning the UK at the forefront of the digital asset landscape.

This comes after the US positioned itself to capitalize on the growing adoption of digital assets through pro-crypto legislation, fulfilling President Donald Trump’s mission to establish the country as the crypto capital of the world.

UK’s Crypto Sector At Risk?

The letter, which garnered support from 30 industry players, emphasizes the need for a proactive and coordinated approach to dollar-pegged cryptocurrencies. It argues that they should not be viewed merely as potential risks but as integral components of a financial infrastructure that can be responsibly embraced.

The letter highlights that the United Kingdom must act swiftly to ensure it remains competitive with countries like the United States, which have taken significant steps to integrate stablecoins into their financial systems with the passage of the GENIUS Act.

Industry players have voiced concerns regarding the UK’s current regulatory stance on stablecoins, suggesting that it places the nation’s crypto sector at a disadvantage.

One of the primary issues is the legal classification of stablecoins as “crypto-assets with reference to fiat currency.” Critics argue that this definition focuses too much on the form rather than the function of stablecoins, likening it to defining a cheque solely as paper that references currency.

The establishment of a national stablecoin strategy could enhance the UK’s status as a global financial center, they assert, and generate new revenue streams, particularly in fees and foreign exchange, while also supporting demand for government bonds.

The Key To Unlocking Stablecoin Potential

The letter received endorsements from executives and firms such as crypto exchange Coinbase, Kraken, Copper, Fireblocks, BitGo, and asset manager and crypto exchange-traded fund (ETF) issuer VanEck.

Daragh Maher, HSBC’s head of digital assets research, has highlighted the potential of stablecoins to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the digital asset world.

He described them as the cash equivalent of digital assets, serving as a foundational currency for almost all crypto transactions. Maher also pointed out that stablecoins can facilitate money transfers using blockchain technology, offering a modern alternative for the UK financial system.

Despite their potential, regulatory hurdles remain a significant barrier to the widespread adoption of stablecoins. Maher emphasized that creating a suitable regulatory environment is crucial for unlocking the full potential of stablecoins in the UK.

United States’ Bitcoin Holdings Top $24 Billion After Ruling Out Buying

by admin August 18, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

On-chain data shows the US is one of the world’s largest Bitcoin holders, with its portfolio now exceeding $24 billion. However, recent events have shown that the possibility of the US government increasing its stash is very low. Particularly, the US government’s strategy for cryptocurrency took a new turn this week after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent clarified that Washington will not be actively buying any additional Bitcoin.

Bessent Rules Out New Purchases But Leaves A Possibility

While speaking in a Fox Business interview, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained that the government has no plans to buy additional Bitcoin beyond its current reserve. The Treasury chief said the reserve will continue to be funded primarily through assets seized in criminal cases rather than direct purchases. His estimates place the value of the reserve between $15 billion and $20 billion.

Bessent later softened his position on social media, noting that even though the US is not allocating budgetary resources to acquire more Bitcoin, it is committed to “budget-neutral pathways” for expanding reserves to make the country the Bitcoin superpower of the world. The statement suggests that auctions, seizures, and non-traditional acquisitions could still increase holdings in the future, even if the Treasury avoids direct market buys.

Bitcoin Holdings Push Toward $24 Billion

Data from blockchain analytics platform Arkham Intelligence reveals a bigger picture than Bessent’s estimates of $15 billion to 20 billion. According to Arkham, wallets linked to the US government currently hold about 198,022 BTC, valued at approximately $23.42 billion. Many of these holdings originated from seizures related to criminal activity, including the well-known Silk Road case.

The portfolio, however, extends well beyond Bitcoin. Arkham’s data reveals holdings of about 59,951 ETH, worth $273 million, along with 347 million USDT and smaller allocations across other assets such as 750 WBTC, 40,293 BNB, 5,205 WETH, and 13.6 million BUSD. Taken together, the government’s digital asset holdings are valued at approximately $24.27 billion. This figure recently climbed as high as $25 billion during Bitcoin’s surge above $124,000 last week.

Source: Chart from Arkham

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed into law the creation of a strategic crypto reserve, a move many interpreted as the start of government-led Bitcoin accumulation. Trump himself had many investors increase their expectations after stating that the United States would prioritize US-based cryptocurrencies like BTC as part of its financial strategy.

This context is what made Bessent’s recent statement so significant. Although the reserve exists in law, the Treasury has now made it clear that active market purchases of Bitcoin are not on the table for the time being. However, it is clear that the US government isn’t planning to sell its holdings anytime soon, which might flood the market with selling pressure.

Arsenal have also been busy in the transfer market during the summer, with new No. 9 Victor Gyökeres set to make his Premier League debut for the Gunners today alongside fellow newcomers Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke.

Manchester United takes on Arsenal on Sunday, Aug. 17, at Old Trafford, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. BST. That makes it an 11:30 a.m. ET or 8:30 a.m. PT start in the US and Canada, and an 1:30 a.m. AEST kickoff in Australia in the early hours of Monday morning.

Midfielder Martin Zubimendi looks set to make his first EPL appearance for Arsenal following his $60 million summer move from Real Sociedad.

It encrypts your traffic and prevents your internet service provider from throttling your speeds, and can also be helpful when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, adding an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.

However, some streaming services may have policies restricting VPN use to access region-specific content. If you’re considering a VPN for streaming, check the platform’s terms of service to ensure compliance.

If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider’s installation instructions, ensuring you’re connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms may block access when a VPN is detected, so verifying if your streaming subscription allows VPN usage is crucial.

  • If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log in to your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.
