Broken Sword sequel gets Reforged treatment after last year’s “reimagining”, out next year

by admin October 8, 2025

A “reimagined” version of the second Broken Sword game is on the way, following 2024’s Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged.

Revolution Software hinted at the end of last year it was working on the sequel to its classic point-and-click adventure, and now Broken Sword – The Smoking Mirror: Reforged has been officially revealed.

“The Smoking Mirror has always been one of our most loved games, and with Reforged we were able to enhance it in ways that respect the original while making it shine for modern audiences,” said creator Charles Cecil, founder and CEO of Revolution Software. “Just as with the first game, we can’t wait for players old and new to experience it again.”

Broken Sword – The Smoking Mirror: Reforged | Announcement TrailerWatch on YouTube

The Reforged previous game included 4K visuals, new sprites and enhanced audio. Moreover, it included a new UI to help newer players with puzzle solutions.

The sequel will likewise allow players to instantly choose between the original and revised visuals, as well as choose between traditional and story modes for those puzzle hints.

Broken Sword – The Smoking Mirror was first released back in 1997 and sees American tourist George Stobbart and French journalist Nico Collard unravelling a Mayan conspiracy.

The Reforged version will be released in early 2026 across PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

Donald Trump Jr. Calls Media Treatment a ‘Disaster’, Likens Deplatforming to Crypto Debanking

by admin October 3, 2025

In brief

  • Trump Jr. described his experience with mainstream media as “a disaster,” likening their exclusion from coverage to being debanked.
  • He said independent outlets, podcasts, and long-form formats fill gaps left by traditional press.
  • Observers told Decrypt that credibility depends on transparency and accountability, regardless of the outlet.

Donald Trump Jr. told a jam-packed conference room at Token 2049 in Singapore how the media’s unfair treatment of his family had spurred them to create alternative forms of channeling attention and engagement.

Trump, the son of U.S. President Donald Trump and co-founder of World Liberty Financial, said that the crypto project resulted from the First Family’s efforts to foster friendlier coverage.

“I think my overall experience with the media has been, let’s call it, a disaster,” Trump Jr. said. “Where we’re starting to get a fair shake is that the media has discredited themselves so often and so much that the media, like finance, is shifting to alternate forms.”

Trump Jr. and his family have been increasingly active in the digital asset space through multiple projects that seem to have generated massive gains for them, but also drawn blowback from critics who believe the Trumps have been advancing their own interests.

Trump Jr. called “the independent journalism route, the podcasts, people who are talking long-form,” as part of a trend where communication can be construed as “not just delivering a sound bite for whatever corporate powers would have them be doing.”

He said these formats would enable “real” conversations, and offered an opportunity for people outside traditional media to fill a “void.” including his family.

“We got into crypto because—out of necessity—we were debanked, so we came up with a solution,” Trump Jr. said, pointing to how, in the same manner as the media, they were deplatformed, shut down, and thrown off “every platform imaginable.”

Trump Jr. and his brother, Eric Trump, have frequently spoken about facing challenges in the banking industry, with Eric saying earlier this year that “some of the biggest banks in the world” canceled their accounts after President Trump’s first term. Eric Trump further blamed “woke cancel culture” for the trend.

Trump’s comments drew largely favorable reviews from crypto industry observers.

In an interview with Decrypt, Tory Green, co-founder and chairman of decentralized GPU platform io.net, highlighted the importance of “transparency and accountability,” and said that mainstream media often overlooks important details about crypto, for example, which is “why independent outlets matter.”

Alluding to the president’s removal from social media platforms following the January 6 U.S. Capitol attack in 2021, Coin Bureau founder and CEO Nic Puckrin told Decrypt that “deplatforming” was wrong.

“You should have an opinion. You should be able to share it, right?” Puckrin said. “No matter what people think about it, you should be able to [opine], so deplatforming is bad,” although he added that Trump Jr.’s story was “a bit of a spin, of course.”

Cecilia Hsueh, chief strategy officer at MEXC, said that alternative media often did a better job of covering the crypto industry itself than mainstream outlets that miss the industry’s culture and pace.

“Crypto is very unique,” she said. “The way we do things, degen culture—it’s fast, it switches rapidly.”

She added: “Traditional media has “this perception [on crypto] that it’s a speculation first, and then they use that perception to look into what we are doing: all the initiatives, the creative ideas,” although she noted positive changes as “Bitcoin has become a mainstream asset.”

Decrypt reached out to World Liberty Finance and Donald Trump Jr. for additional comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

AI Medical Tools Provide Worse Treatment for Women and Underrepresented Groups

by admin September 22, 2025

Historically, most clinical trials and scientific studies have primarily focused on white men as subjects, leading to a significant underrepresentation of women and people of color in medical research. You’ll never guess what has happened as a result of feeding all of that data into AI models. It turns out, as the Financial Times calls out in a recent report, that AI tools used by doctors and medical professionals are producing worse health outcomes for the people who have historically been underrepresented and ignored.

The report points to a recent paper from researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which found that large language models including OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Meta’s Llama 3 were “more likely to erroneously reduce care for female patients,” and that women were told more often than men “self-manage at home,” ultimately receiving less care in a clinical setting.  That’s bad, obviously, but one could argue that those models are more general purpose and not designed to be use in a medical setting. Unfortunately, a healthcare-centric LLM called Palmyra-Med was also studied and suffered from some of the same biases, per the paper. A look at Google’s LLM Gemma (not its flagship Gemini) conducted by the London School of Economics similarly found the model would produce outcomes with “women’s needs downplayed” compared to men.

A previous study found that models similarly had issues with offering the same levels of compassion to people of color dealing with mental health matters as they would to their white counterparts. A paper published last year in The Lancet found that OpenAI’s GPT-4 model would regularly “stereotype certain races, ethnicities, and genders,” making diagnoses and recommendations that were more driven by demographic identifiers than by symptoms or conditions. “Assessment and plans created by the model showed significant association between demographic attributes and recommendations for more expensive procedures as well as differences in patient perception,” the paper concluded.

That creates a pretty obvious problem, especially as companies like Google, Meta, and OpenAI all race to get their tools into hospitals and medical facilities. It represents a huge and profitable market—but also one that has pretty serious consequences for misinformation. Earlier this year, Google’s healthcare AI model Med-Gemini made headlines for making up a body part. That should be pretty easy for a healthcare worker to identify as being wrong. But biases are more discreet and often unconscious. Will a doctor know enough to question if an AI model is perpetuating a longstanding medical stereotype about a person? No one should have to find that out the hard way.

Konami wants our thoughts on what Metal Gear game should get the remake treatment next

by admin September 21, 2025

Konami wants your opinion on which Metal Gear game you think should get the remake treatment next.

In a new survey entitled “Metal Gear – Production Hotline at TGS2025 Post-viewing survey”, the publisher asked a number of questions about how it communicates with fans, but most interestingly, it also polls players for information about which Metal Gear titles they’d like to see “remade”.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Review – A MUD-SLICK CLASSIC REBORN.Watch on YouTube

The options provided on the survey included:

  • Metal Gear
  • Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriot
  • Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
  • Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes
  • Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

There was also a text box inviting “other” suggestions, too, so if you’ve a burning desire to see Metal Gear Survive remade, you’ll have to pop it in there (thanks, InsiderGaming).

Expect more at the next Metal Gear Production Hotline livestream, scheduled for 25th September (which just so happens to be the launch date of the next instalment of Konami’s other big franchise, Silent Hill).

Horror Icons Are Getting the Baby Yoda Treatment

by admin September 1, 2025

It seems these days most major franchises want to cash in on that Star Wars Baby Yoda money by making their own adorable version of something within any given fandom. We saw it last year with the debut of Baby Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and now this year we have Spirit Halloween‘s Horror Babies.

The cuteness aggression is too real with Terrifier star Art the Clown—plus Chucky, Ghostface, lil’ Michael Myers, Leatherface, Pennywise, and others, all featured as infants in the Spirit Halloween line. You just want to hold them and let them love you to death, ya know? We particularly love Pink Ghostface and the sunglass-wearing Art, who delight with bold, bright colors and playful poses.

Take a look at the lineupbelow!

According to Spirit Halloween, the dolls range in price from $15 for the mini to $55 for the full-size. The smaller options appear to be in stores and have dimensions of 4″ H x 2.8″ W x 4″ D.

Meanwhile, the ones that approximate the size of actual human babies are made of foam filled with latex and are 12.5″ H x 12.5″ W x 8.8″ D. Some of the bigger ones will be available at the seasonal Halloween pop-up but others, like Leatherface and Pink Ghostface, appear to be online only. These are so good and, honestly, a good chilling chibi take on iconic horror titans that fans will definitely add to their collections. Happy Halloween hunting!

Find them online at Spirit Halloween or in stores.

With Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, Lizardcube gives that pixel-perfect 16-bit Streets of Rage 4 treatment to another Sega classic

by admin August 27, 2025

All of us who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s have had a decent amount of time to ponder what it is that really makes the video game ninja such a special thing. It’s the hard strikes and the proximity to magic, sure, but it’s also something else. A ninja moves with a particular lightness. No need for a foley artist to mix in footsteps, because when these characters move it’s as is icing sugar is being dusted over the soft earth. So there’s a lovely contradiction at the heart of it. Cor, it hurts when one of these people kicks you through a wall, but cor, they’re so nimble and and deft and precise – so gentle – you kind of have to forgive them for everything.

It’s this kind of contradiction that powers Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. I’ve only spent the morning with this, but please be aware: it’s a deeply good video game. The lineage is pure early 1990s school playground: Sega at its sharpest. And now Lizardcube is in charge of the design, which means the team behind reimagining Streets of Rage and – my heart! – Wonder Boy 3 is back meddling gorgeously with my formative video game memories.

The new Shinobi is a 2D-scrolling action game far too precise and poised to refer to as a beat-’em-up. The first level sends you through a village that’s being burnt to the ground by baddies: perfect cinematic stuff in which to learn how to air dash, double-jump and blitz your foes with combos. Those foes come with swords or ninja stars – or guns, in one case, which feels like a double sting: how could you? – and while the whole thing is wonderfully hand-drawn with sharp black lines and Silver Age poses, the sense of connection makes it feel like the most pixel-perfect 16-bit game you ever played.

That contradiction, though! This Shinobi is not shy when it comes to big attacks. There are gleeful combos and a whole shop full of new moves to unlock. There are also Ninpo moves that are tied to elements by the looks of things, and a range of super-strength Ninjutsu screen-clearers, the first of which left me checking whether my eyebrows had been burnt off. If you’re looking to attack people, you are well-catered for here.

But my favourite move isn’t an attack at all. It’s the Ninja Flip, which you can trigger just after an attack. This allows you, with a squeeze of the bumper, to cartwheel over your enemy, landing behind them oh so softly, so as to continue attacking or just grant yourself some space. It’s useful in combat and it’s useful when the levels start to become more maze-like, with locked doors and switches and secrets to find.

But more than that, it just sells the other half of being a Ninja. The icing sugar softness. The ability to dance lightly through absolute carnage. It’s a show-stopping piece of dismissiveness which makes you feel completely in control of every situation. A bit like Lizardcube, in other words.

Code for Shinobi: Art of Vengeance was provided by the publisher.

Horror movie classic Halloween is getting the 1v4 multiplayer treatment, and it's out next year

Horror movie classic Halloween is getting the 1v4 multiplayer treatment, and it’s out next year

by admin August 23, 2025

John Carpenter’s Halloween is the latest horror movie classic to get the multiplayer treatment, and it’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2026.

Halloween is being developed by Illfonic, the studio behind the likes of Friday the 13th: The Game, Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, and Predator Hunting Grounds. And like those movie adaptations, Halloween is also being designed as a “one-versus-many” asymmetrical horror affair as the iconic Michael Myers pursues the residents of Haddonfield.

“In dynamic and ever-changing 1v4 asymmetrical multiplayer matches, hero players must arm themselves with everyday household items, weapons, and knowledge to combat an unpredictable and unkillable enemy,” Illfonic explains. “Convincing townsfolk and contacting the police will lead to increasingly powerful and thorough neighbourhood patrols. To even the odds, you can command and equip NPCs with weapons to outsmart or even overpower The Shape, providing precious windows for escape.”

Halloween announcement trailer.Watch on YouTube

Illfonic reckons its take on Halloween “masterfully recreates” the ambience of the original 1978 movie, with talk of multiple maps set across “authentic” Haddonfield locations, and a soundtrack inspired by John Carpenter’s classic score. Notably too, its familiar asymmetrical multiplayer mode will be accompanied by an offline single-player story mode featuring bots.

There’s no word of a release date for Halloween beyond its “2026” arrival on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but there’s a mood-setting trailer above.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Valor Mortis will see Ghostrunner’s creators give Napoleonic era Europe the soulslike treatment in 2026

by admin August 19, 2025

Valor Mortis, a soulslike set during Napoleon’s 19th century conquest of Eastern Europe, has been revealed by Ghostrunner devs One More Level during Gamescom Opening Night Live’s preshow. It’s set for release in 2026.

Yep, if you’re a fan of games that drip with Frenchness and also revolve around beating up gaudily-health barred baddies before they do the same to you, this one might have you reaching for your musket and bicorne. That’s assuming the setting offers enough of a unique feel that Valor Mortis doesn’t resemble being trapped on a Fromsoft-imitation Elba.

Watch on YouTube

““With Valor Mortis, we wanted to try something new and original – a darker experience, while still offering players a true challenge,” One More Level CEO Szymon Bryla said. “After Ghostrunner, we knew we had the foundation to create a [first-person] title, but this time in a soulslike genre. At the same time, we wanted to stay true to what we do best – making demanding games for hardcore players, set in an engaging, expansive world, while showing that the studio has grown since our previous projects.”

The game’ll see you play as William, a Grande Armée soldier ressurected and given supernatural powers by the Nephtoglobin, a mysterious goop. Sadly, because video game, this goop has turned the world around him and his former comrades in arms into a plague-ridden hellscape prowled by mutants with extra limbs and bloated bodies.

The combat looks to add a BioShock-esque twist to the usual soulslike parry and dodge swordplay. You can dual-wield with guns like a flintlock pistol and abilities dubbed transmutations. The latter are William’s magic powers, and remind me a lot of plasmids. This time, it looks like you’ll be gaining the ability to shoot the likes of fire from your mitt by interacting with not quite dead bodies on the battlefield.

If there’s one thing the trailer emphasises, it’s that this game will not lack for battlefields full of dead bodies, with an entire montage dedicated to different locations in which the corpses are piled high. You’ll be able to get a look at those corpse piles if you sign up for a closed Valor Mortis playtest that’s set to kick off following Gamescom. Head to ValorMortis.com if you’re keen.

Or, wait until the full release, which maths tells me is sadly more than a hundred days away.
