Horror movie classic Halloween is getting the 1v4 multiplayer treatment, and it’s out next year

by admin August 23, 2025

John Carpenter’s Halloween is the latest horror movie classic to get the multiplayer treatment, and it’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2026.

Halloween is being developed by Illfonic, the studio behind the likes of Friday the 13th: The Game, Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, and Predator Hunting Grounds. And like those movie adaptations, Halloween is also being designed as a “one-versus-many” asymmetrical horror affair as the iconic Michael Myers pursues the residents of Haddonfield.

“In dynamic and ever-changing 1v4 asymmetrical multiplayer matches, hero players must arm themselves with everyday household items, weapons, and knowledge to combat an unpredictable and unkillable enemy,” Illfonic explains. “Convincing townsfolk and contacting the police will lead to increasingly powerful and thorough neighbourhood patrols. To even the odds, you can command and equip NPCs with weapons to outsmart or even overpower The Shape, providing precious windows for escape.”

Illfonic reckons its take on Halloween “masterfully recreates” the ambience of the original 1978 movie, with talk of multiple maps set across “authentic” Haddonfield locations, and a soundtrack inspired by John Carpenter’s classic score. Notably too, its familiar asymmetrical multiplayer mode will be accompanied by an offline single-player story mode featuring bots.

There’s no word of a release date for Halloween beyond its “2026” arrival on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but there’s a mood-setting trailer above.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Valor Mortis will see Ghostrunner’s creators give Napoleonic era Europe the soulslike treatment in 2026

by admin August 19, 2025

Valor Mortis, a soulslike set during Napoleon’s 19th century conquest of Eastern Europe, has been revealed by Ghostrunner devs One More Level during Gamescom Opening Night Live’s preshow. It’s set for release in 2026.

Yep, if you’re a fan of games that drip with Frenchness and also revolve around beating up gaudily-health barred baddies before they do the same to you, this one might have you reaching for your musket and bicorne. That’s assuming the setting offers enough of a unique feel that Valor Mortis doesn’t resemble being trapped on a Fromsoft-imitation Elba.

Watch on YouTube

““With Valor Mortis, we wanted to try something new and original – a darker experience, while still offering players a true challenge,” One More Level CEO Szymon Bryla said. “After Ghostrunner, we knew we had the foundation to create a [first-person] title, but this time in a soulslike genre. At the same time, we wanted to stay true to what we do best – making demanding games for hardcore players, set in an engaging, expansive world, while showing that the studio has grown since our previous projects.”

The game’ll see you play as William, a Grande Armée soldier ressurected and given supernatural powers by the Nephtoglobin, a mysterious goop. Sadly, because video game, this goop has turned the world around him and his former comrades in arms into a plague-ridden hellscape prowled by mutants with extra limbs and bloated bodies.

The combat looks to add a BioShock-esque twist to the usual soulslike parry and dodge swordplay. You can dual-wield with guns like a flintlock pistol and abilities dubbed transmutations. The latter are William’s magic powers, and remind me a lot of plasmids. This time, it looks like you’ll be gaining the ability to shoot the likes of fire from your mitt by interacting with not quite dead bodies on the battlefield.

If there’s one thing the trailer emphasises, it’s that this game will not lack for battlefields full of dead bodies, with an entire montage dedicated to different locations in which the corpses are piled high. You’ll be able to get a look at those corpse piles if you sign up for a closed Valor Mortis playtest that’s set to kick off following Gamescom. Head to ValorMortis.com if you’re keen.

Or, wait until the full release, which maths tells me is sadly more than a hundred days away.

Spooky friend-time ghost-em-up Phasmophobia is the next videogame to get the movie treatment

by admin June 4, 2025

Back in 2020, Phasmophobia took the formula of reality shows like Ghost Adventures, where frat boys explore a haunted location saying “woah” at every sound, and turned it into early access gold. It was our co-op game of the year, won best debut at The Game Awards, and has gone on to sell 23 million copies. Now it’s being made into a movie.

The Phasmophobia movie will be produced by two studios with experience in horror and videogame adaptations: Blumhouse (M3GAN, Five Nights at Freddy’s) and Atomic Monster (The Conjuring, Mortal Kombat). While I’m sure they could make a movie about some dopes investigating haunted houses and getting strangled by ghosts without paying for the rights to Phasmophobia, it’s good name recognition sure to appeal to anyone who has fond memories of waving crucifixes and thermometers around a child’s bedroom in the dark. Fun times.

“We never could’ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago,” said Daniel Knight, lead developer of Phasmophobia, “and we’re so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can’t wait to share more as the project develops.”

Phasmophobia is still in early access with a major update called Chronicle due on June 24. It’s adding a sound recorder, expanding the media section of the journal with extra things to capture for a perfect investigation, and more.

Open letter slams Gamescom Latam’s treatment of Brazilian developers

by admin May 28, 2025

Over 250 Brazilian developers have slammed support at the recent Gamescom Latam conference, raising concerns over the “treatment that Brazilian developers received at the event.”

In an open letter (translated into English here – thanks, GameDeveloper), exhibitors in the Panorama Brasil section say they were particularly poorly treated, including being expected to be at their booths for 12 hours a day, “with penalties for leaving the booth,” which the signatories deem “completely unfeasible.”

“Events around the world promote and support independent developers from their own countries,” the letter, signed by Game Devs Unidos, said. “Helping small developers, who are often showcasing their first game, is the first step toward building a healthy industry from the ground up.

“In Brazil, several events already fulfill this role. Even events abroad recognize and support Brazilian developers through incentives. However, it is felt that Gamescom still has much to improve in this regard.”

Complaints include “exorbitantly priced” booths, high fees for TV rentals, lack of staff to assist developers, charging for power strip rentals, lack of support for food and transportation, absence of chairs and resting areas, all of which is called “inadequate for the current standard of national and international events that position themselves as promoters of the local industry.”

“This harms precisely those who most need the support, such as the exhibitors in the Panorama Brasil section,” the complainants insisted. “This situation becomes even more pronounced when compared to the treatment given to some of the international guests, whose travel and accommodation are often covered, along with other incentives.”

Improvements suggested by attendees include: transportation assistance for developers exhibiting in the Panorama Brasil section, the BIG Festival, and for speakers, including those from São Paulo; meal vouchers for all developers in the Panorama Brasil section, BIG Festival participants, and speakers; a rest area for developers, similar to the one accessible to the press; screens for game exhibitions available at no additional cost; power strips available at no additional cost, free lockers, increased security to prevent thefts, and staff to assist Panorama Brasil developers with the public, particularly to cover booths when they need to step away for bathroom breaks or meals.

The letter includes examples of comparable developer events in other countries that do offer stipends, subsistence and travel costs, and more.

GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Gamescom Latam for comment and will update when we receive a response.

Gamescom Latam broke its own records for attendance this year, as the event welcomed more than 130,000 visitors to São Paulo from April 30 to May 4.

Metal Gear Solid Delta’s James Bond opening gets the remake treatment

by admin May 25, 2025

Pull out the tuxedo and order a martini — shaken, not stirred — because Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s James Bond-esque opening has finally been revealed, and it’s different. Konami rolled out the 3-minute clip on YouTube, showing off new footage and audio from the forthcoming espionage game that reimagines Metal Gear Solid 3’s cinematic introduction.

Some key visual differences include the skeletal snakes from the original opening being more prominent in the remake. Additional shots of Snake being badass are scattered through the remade sequence, alongside shots from the original, now realized in incredible detail.

While Colonel Volgin is solely shown in the OG version, the new iteration includes even more key characters from the Cobra Unit, like The End (with his enormous eye), The Pain, and The Fear, with subtle redesigns that honor the original game’s vision. For good measure, Konami also throws in a shot of the dramatic showdown between Snake and The Boss.

The clip features new vocals from the great Cynthia Harrell, giving a softer performance compared to her original 2004 “Snake Eater” recording. Harrell’s ballad features noticeably less bass and fewer horn instruments than the 2004 edition, and leans heavier into psychedelic ambiance, emphasizing Harrell singing, “I’m still in a dream.”

Regardless of the changes, the sentiments from the original song — “concepts of why we have to live and why we have to go on,” as the song’s composer Norihiko Hibino told Polygon — remain intact.

At this point, you’re probably wondering whether or not players can still control the on-screen snakes like it’s 2004. Well, the short answer is yes.

According to the YouTube video’s description, players can engage with “interactive elements from the original, included in the in-game version of the opening.” And if Konami is honoring the snake mini-game, there’s a chance players can expect to hear a version of the song when you’re back climbing that unrealistically long ladder towards the end of the game — for James Bond dramatics, of course.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on Aug. 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Elden Ring live-action movie now confirmed to be on the way from A24 and director Alex Garland, so now we wait to find out which boss gets the Chicken Jockey treatment

by admin May 23, 2025

The long-rumoured Elden Ring live-action movie has now been officially confirmed, with production house A24 and director Alex Garland at the helm. Yep, watch out Super Mario Bros and Minecraft, FromSoft is sending a legion of souls-loving nerds after your box office records.

It’s taken a while for the chatter about this kovie possibly being a thing to cyrystalise into something 100% solid, but at least now we won’t have to deal with George R.R Martin being all coy about it, with the author having been brought on as a producer.

“We’re thrilled to announce that Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc and A24 are teaming up with writer and director Alex Garland to bring FromSoftware Inc’s world-renowned video game ELDEN RING to life as a live-action film,” Bandai Namco tweeted.

“We’re truly excited to bring the world of ELDEN RING to fans in a new form, outside the game. Stay tuned. The path ahead is only beginning.”

Ex Machina and Civil War director Alex Garland will write and direct this ER film, with R. R. Martin, Peter Rice, Vince Gerardis, as well as DNA Films duo Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich, attatched as producers (thanks, Deadline). There doesn’t look to be any word yet as to how involved Hidetaka Miyazaki or any other FromSoftware devs will be in the project.

There are also no plot details right now, so for all we know Radahn’s tiny horse is the main character. Maybe it’s a musical in which he’s followed around by an Albinauric chorus with voices that’d make Pavarotti blush. Whatever happens, if Malenia pops up on screen, I’d wager we’ll get clips of cinemas erupting into chaos like we did with the Minecraft movie’s Chicken Jockey.

What are you hoping to see from this Elden Ring movie and has it being confirmed got you even more keen to jump into Elden Ring Nightreign on May 30? Let us know below!
