Kids From The 2000s Rejoice, Icy Tower Is Coming Back

by admin October 3, 2025

Icy Tower, the classic freeware platformer from the early 2000s that was a viral sensation back in the day, is returning via a new Steam release next year from the original creators. I’m so happy about that it makes me want to yell “Sweeeeet!” while cartwheeling wildly through the air.

On October 1, Icy Tower creators Johan Peitz and Anders “Neo” Svensson announced that the duo’s popular 2001 game Icy Tower is getting a remake. The plan is for this new version, which looks extremely faithful to the original game, to launch on Steam sometime in 2026. Here’s the trailer, which might activate some dormant part of your brain that contains all the memories you have of playing the original Icy Tower in a computer lab in middle school.

Here’s how the original creators describe this new, upcoming version of the classic platformer:

Icy Tower is the definitive arcade jumping game. Join Harold the Homeboy and his friends as they try to climb as high up as they possibly can in a mysterious tower. But one mistake and it is back to the beginning! With its simple pick-up-and-play appeal Icy Tower delivers a pure, compelling arcade fun. As the difficulty ramps up, the game will put your timing, precision, and nerves to the true test.

If you were under the age of 17 or so in the early 2000s and spent time online, there is a very good chance that you downloaded Icy Tower from Free Lunch Design and played it for many, many hours. The game’s simple controls, bouncy physics, and endless nature made it hard to put down. It also ran on even the crappiest computers, making it easy for anyone to play.

Icy Tower was completely free, too, and its file size was so small that people shared it from computer to computer. I’m not even sure how I stumbled upon it back in the early 2000s, but once I found it, my brother and I played way, way, way too much Icy Tower while dreaming of what was at the top of the tower. (It didn’t have an end you could reach, but we didn’t know that.) And sure, there were some ports and mobile spin-offs released over the years, but this looks to be the first real follow-up from the OG creators that perfectly captures the vibes of that first game.

And now, 25 years later (which makes me feel extremely old to write), Icy Tower is coming back and it looks great. I can’t wait to flip about for hours and hours when it launches in 2026. You can wishlist it now on Steam.

Stario: Haven Tower is yet another vertical city-builder, but this one has magic, space whales and flying delivery turtles

by admin September 28, 2025

Stario: Haven Tower isn’t the first vertical city-builder I’ve seen, or even the first one I’ve seen this year. But it is the first I’ve encountered that also features floating space whales, which immediately makes it the one I’m most interested in playing. Does this demonstrate how badly the Internet has affected my attention span? Well, I’ll have you know that—ooh, a squirrel!

Developed by Chinese outfit Stargate Games, Stario: Haven Tower tasks you with constructing a literal towering civilization. Through “six atmospheric layers”, your metropolitan column will rise from a sandy, lifeless wilderness all the way up to a painterly cosmos.

While the verticality is what initially intrigued me about Stario (that and the space whales), what really makes it interesting is how it folds logistics into city-planning. Each layer of the tower must store its own supplies, so you’ll need to figure out how to move goods between them. At the outset, this may involved good old fashioned elbow grease, ordering your “Towertizens” (a portmanteau unlikely to catch on, I fear).

As you research new tech, however, you’ll be able to produce hot air balloons, pipelines, and a technology called “Stronghands” that basically catapult packages between layers. Judging from the trailer (viewable below), Stario also lets you domesticate giant flying turtles to aid in deliveries, though whether these are used for general logistics or more specific, larger-scale transportation is unclear.

Watch On

Of course, your construction efforts don’t occur in a bubble. In classic city-building style, your tower is vulnerable to various disasters that can damage its structure and your people’s morale. Yet as your civilization ascends, you’ll be able to harness the elements through magical rituals, summoning wind to power your turbines and rain to replenish your crops.

While is only just entering early access, it appears fairly fleshed out. The alpha version lets you build the full tower, construct 70 buildings, produce 50 different recipes, and research technologies from a completed tech tree. There are also four types of disasters to contend with, as well as a newly implemented trading system.

Stario: Haven Tower is available now. Stargate Games anticipates a swift early access period of between six and 12 months, with planned features including a sandbox mode, more logistics buildings, a statistics tracking panel, and more decorative objectives to place around your city. The developer’s also running a 10% launch sale, temporarily bringing the price down to $12.59 (£10). The discount runs until October 9.

Build a tower city all the way to heaven in this spiritual, yet logistics-heavy strategy game

by admin September 26, 2025

The city-building genre is grossly overpopulated. Competing Simvilles predicated on wholly opposed theories about plumbing and traffic wardens stretch as far as the eye can see. As such, the genre must imitate real-life urban centres of the 20th century, and begin expanding vertically. Enter Stario: Haven Tower, the new strategy management sim from Chinese developers Stargate Games, in which you build upward through the realms of Sand, Mist, Rain, Frost, and Clear Skies until finally, your city stands among the Stars.

Accomplishing this will require a fair amount of faith, but above all – yes, literally above all, ha ha – it will require a mastery of resourcing and logistics. You will need to stretch water pipelines between city layers, set up balloon deliveries, and engage in shrewd bartering with the flying turtles that, for some reason, keep showing up at your window. You will also need to think about reinforcing the foundations and/or managing the city’s mass with “lattice-like aerial platforms” and so forth.

Stario enters early access today, and I’ve just procured a code from one of the flying turtles that periodically appears at my window, asking me to write about a videogame. As such, I can’t give you much sense of how it plays, but I like the concept’s blend of mysticism and heavy engineering, though I have reservations about the in-game vocabulary. You can build sacred beacons to raise the morale of your, ugh, “Towertizens”, together with ritual platforms that can be used to meddle with the weather.

If nothing else, it cuts an intriguing figure. The architecture is ornate and colourful but also, curiously muted in places, almost a little spreadsheety. There’s a flat interface that floats next to your tower and drifts about when you rotate the camera, not quite ruining the view.

Anyway, I hope to fit in some time with this over the coming weeks, but given the abundance of town-tenders round these parts, I figured you’d like to hear about it now. Food for discussion about this very busy genre, if not a thing to immediately purchase. Stario: Haven Tower will remain in early access for 6-12 months, according to the developers – you can read more on Steam.

Dyson Is Going Nuts with Its Tower Fan, Now Selling for Peanuts Ahead of Prime Day

by admin September 21, 2025

Dyson has been a leader for years regarding airflow control, first making its reputation with innovative vacuum cleaners, then with success for its innovative hair dryers. Its fan and air purifier product line more recently has also been a huge success. They’re good-looking enough to sit in any living room or bedroom, but their real strength is in their efficacy.

Now this Dyson Cool AM07 air multiplier bladeless tower fan has dropped to an all-time low price at Amazon, a deal better than what we have seen on Prime Day or Black Friday: It costs $249, having been reduced from $399, representing a 38 percent discount on a fan that pairs style with performance.

Innovative Airflow Technology That Packs a Punch

The Dyson Cool AM07 uses air multiplier technology to amplify ambient air for a steady and smooth stream of cooling air that doesn’t interrupt with blades chopping at the air. Not only is this bladeless design streamlined and safe but it creates airflow that’s natural-sounding and uninterrupted which is perfect for cooling a room pleasantly without shocking gusts. With 10 precise airflow levels, you are able to adjust the fan power to your needs.

This model also has silky smooth oscillation across a 70-degree range so that the airflow can move about a room without blowing down on a single spot. That’s something that makes it perfect for bedrooms or living rooms where you’re looking for a more even heat distribution. The rounded shape of the fan and magnetized remote are pleasing touches that keep your home tidy and uncluttered: no rummaging about under sofas or behind tables for misplaced remotes.

You can also use the sleep timer to automatically turn off the fan anywhere from 15 minutes up to 9 hours, so you can set it and forget it without wasting power on running the fan unnecessarily. This is what makes it a great companion on warm nights when you want cooling with the pleasure of not running the fan all night long.

Apart from looks and air flow, Dyson fans are designed to be silent so you will not be woken up by humming or rattling sounds. That makes the Cool AM07 ideal for home offices, nurseries, and where quiet is important. The iron and blue color scheme complements most decors and adds a touch of subtlety without dominating the space.

At $249, the Dyson Cool AM07 tower fan is a rare deal that won’t last long.

Other connections you’ll find are an HDMI and DisplayPort so you can set yourself up with two monitors side by side. You also have an Ethernet port on the back and a combination headphone/microphone audio jack conveniently on the front. The Dell tower supports Bluetooth so you can pair wirelessly to headphones or other accessories like your mouse or gaming controller.
