U.K. 30-Year Yield Tops U.S. as Pressure Mounts on Government Borrowing

U.K. 30-Year Yield Tops U.S. as Pressure Mounts on Government Borrowing

by admin August 19, 2025

The U.K.’s fragile fiscal situation is back in focus as yields on long-term government bonds surged, topping their U.S. counterparts for the first time this century.

The 30-year U.K. government bond offered a yield of 5.61% at press time. That’s 68 basis points more than the 30-year U.S. Treasury yield according to data source TradingView.

The widening gap means that the market is demanding a significant premium to hold U.K. debt versus Treasury notes, a sign that investors are becoming increasingly wary about the U.K.’s fiscal situation.

The U.K. gilt market (bond market) has taken on a life of its own, as the country faces structural, long-term economic challenges that it has built up over decades; yet, this is not a uniquely British issue. Japan, the EU, and the U.S. have also seen bond yields rise as debt burdens and inflation pressures mount.

This indebtedness of the advanced world supports the bullish case for perceived store-of-value assets like bitcoin

and gold.

Focus on U.K. inflation report

Wednesday’s U.K. inflation report is critical for bond markets.

The data is expected to show that both the headline consumer price index (CPI) and core CPI remained well above the 2% target in July, according to data source Trading Economics. The headline CPI is expected to be 3.7% year-over-year (up from the previous 3.6%), while core inflation is forecast to remain at 3.7% (unchanged from the prior month). The data will hit the wires just weeks after the Bank of England cut rates to 4%.

Expectations for sticky inflation couldn’t have come at a worse time, as the GDP growth has weakened and unemployment has begun to edge higher from secular lows.

Repeat of 2022 crisis?

A hot inflation report could only worsen the debt-bond dynamics by accelerating the uptrend in yields. This calls for both crypto and traditional market traders to remain vigilant for a 2022-style volatility in the U.K. markets.

The hardening of the 30-year gilt yield, representing the long end of the curve, played a big role in the liability-driven investment (LDI) pension crisis of 2022, which erupted under Liz Truss. The longer duration yield is now testing the upper bound of a long-term trend and could rise to 5.7%, the highest level since May 1998.

LDI strategies use leverage to hedge pension liabilities. When gilt yields spiked in 2022, collateral calls led to a mass sale of gilts, creating a feedback loop that threatened financial stability. That prompted the Bank of England to intervene with emergency purchases to prevent a systemic crisis.

If Wednesday’s inflation report runs hotter than expected, gilt yields could break new highs, putting further pressure on the government and raising the risk of another LDI-style crisis.

SEI Token Tops Circle’s Balance Sheet, IPO Filing Confirms

by admin June 25, 2025

In a surprising reveal that’s creating major buzz in the crypto world, Circle, the company behind the USDC stablecoin, holds more SEI tokens than any other digital asset on its balance sheet.

This detail was quietly tucked inside the company’s IPO filing, and it’s now drawing massive attention after SEI Network spotlighted the news in a congratulatory post on X.

Congratulations on the incredibly successful IPO of one of the biggest investors in $SEI, Circle, which hit a market high of $59B today on the heels of Senate approval of the GENIUS act for stablecoins.

— Sei 🔴 (@SeiNetwork) June 24, 2025

“Circle holds more $SEI tokens than any other token on its balance sheet according to its IPO filing,” SEI Network wrote. “Stablecoin issuers like Circle are starting to recognize Sei technology as a driver for their next stage of growth.”

This strategic holding is a huge win for the SEI ecosystem. It shows that one of the world’s leading stablecoin issuers is not only bullish on Sei’s technology but sees it as essential to scaling operations in the new era of compliant, high-speed crypto infrastructure.

The timing of this reveal couldn’t have been more dramatic. On June 5, Circle Internet Group Inc. made its public market debut at $31 a share. The stock soared 168% on day one and hit a high of $263.45 earlier this week before a 17% correction on Tuesday.

Even after the dip, the stock is still up around 750% since its IPO, pushing Circle’s market cap past $59 billion at its peak.

Much of this market momentum is fueled by the recent Senate approval of the GENIUS Act, which paves the way for the first clear U.S. regulatory framework for stablecoins.

With regulation now moving forward, traditional investors are beginning to see the long-term value in firms like Circle that are building within the rules, and with the right partners.

SEI Network, built as a fast and efficient Layer 1 blockchain for trading and payments, is now getting serious attention. With Circle holding more $SEI than any other token, it’s clear they believe in not just the token, but the whole SEI ecosystem, as a key piece of future financial tech.

Dogecoin Tops Crypto Funding Chart As Traders Load Up Longs

by admin June 19, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Data shows Dogecoin is currently leading the top cryptocurrencies in terms of Funding Rate, suggesting a spike in long positioning among traders.

Dogecoin Funding Rate Is Sitting At 0.0092% Right Now

In a new post on X, the analytics firm Glassnode has talked about how the top cryptocurrencies in the sector compare to each other in terms of the Funding Rate.

The Funding Rate refers to an indicator that keeps track of the average periodic amount of fees that perpetual futures traders of a given asset are exchanging between each other on the centralized derivatives platforms.

When the value of this metric is positive, it means the long investors are paying a premium to the short ones in order to hold onto their positions. Such a trend is a sign that the majority of the investors share a bullish mentality.

On the other hand, the indicator being under the zero mark suggests the short investors outweigh the long ones. This kind of trend implies a bearish sentiment is dominant in the sector.

Now, here is the table shared by Glassnode that shows how the top cryptocurrencies by market cap look in terms of the Funding Rate right now:

The value of the metric seems to be the highest for Dogecoin at the moment | Source: Glassnode on X

As is visible above, the Funding Rate is currently positive for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). According to the analytics firm, this is a rebound compared to yesterday, when sentiment was bearish among the traders.

The indicator is standing at 0.0049% for BTC and 0.0062% for ETH. XRP (XRP), the fourth largest coin by market cap, also has a similar degree of bullish mood with the metric at 0.006%.

A coin that stands out for its sentiment, however, is the memecoin Dogecoin, as its Funding Rate is sitting at 0.0092%, notably higher than any other cryptocurrency

Then there is Tron (TRX) on the exact opposite side of the spectrum, with the bears paying the fee at a rate of -0.0087%. Solana (SOL) is exactly between the two with a neutral Funding Rate of 0.0012%.

Generally, the side that’s dominant on the Funding Rate is more likely to get wrapped up in a mass liquidation event. As such, for an asset like Dogecoin, where a bullish sentiment seems to be strong relative to the rest of the sector, the longs may be at more risk of getting squeezed.

In the same table, data for a few other indicators is also displayed. Among these, an interesting one is perhaps the Supply in Profit, measuring the percentage of an asset’s supply that’s currently being held at an unrealized gain.

While coins like Bitcoin, Tron, and BNB have more than 90% of their supply in the green, others like Dogecoin and Solana have the metric at less than 50%.

DOGE Price

At the time of writing, Dogecoin is trading around $0.1666, down more than 15% over the last week.

Liverpool Tops UK Charts As Crypto Kingpin, Survey Reveals

by admin June 17, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

According to a new Openreach study, Liverpool has climbed to the top of the UK’s list for regular cryptocurrency investing. About 13% of people in the city say they put money into crypto and check stocks on a regular basis. In London, 24% of residents use dating apps at least three days a week, compared with just 4% across Britain as a whole.

Liverpool Takes Crypto Lead

Based on reports from the survey, Liverpudlians are more likely than anyone else in Britain to log on and manage digital assets. That 13% figure outstrips every other city in the study. It suggests a strong local appetite for things like Bitcoin and Ethereum, even as markets wobble. Many people in Liverpool said they check prices several times a week, and some log in every day just to see what’s happening.

Daily Online Time Remains High

According to the findings, the average person in the UK spends about three-and-a-half hours online each day. About 20% of respondents admitted they spend over five hours a day in front of screens. Weekends don’t change much. When asked when they log on most, 64% said they’re active between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Of those late‑night users, 19% head straight to YouTube. That pattern hints at a mix of work‑shift browsing and just plain night‑owl habits.

Total crypto market cap currently at $3,29 trillion. Chart: TradingView

Northern Cities Show Their Stripes

In Manchester, 27% of residents say they use Instagram regularly, more than anywhere else. Sheffield stands out in two areas: 32% of its people scroll through TikTok often, and 30% stream music every day. Sheffield households also top the list for time online, with 32% spending more than five hours a day on the internet. By comparison, only 11% of people in Brighton hit that mark.

Signs Of Screen Fatigue

The survey also found growing web‑use worries. About 43% of Britons feel they waste time online, and 37% worry about “doom‑scrolling.” A third (33%) say they’d feel more relaxed if they cut back on their screen hours. These figures show a real push for balance, as people juggle work chats, social feeds and streaming services.

Experts say these regional differences could guide local projects and advertisers. Openreach’s deputy CEO, Katie Milligan, added that while it’s great to see how areas adapt to life online, it’s even better that many recognize the need to switch off now and then. This mix of heavy use and self‑awareness paints a clear picture: Britain is more connected than ever, but many are ready for a digital breather.

BTC Tops $108K on JPMorgan Crypto Filing, XRP Rallies on ETF News

by admin June 17, 2025

Crypto markets pushed higher on Monday as traders have shifted focus from geopolitical anxieties to crypto-related institutional developments ahead of the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee’s meeting.

Bitcoin

has risen 3.1% in the last 24 hours and is now trading for $108,600, only a couple of thousand dollars below its all-time record. It certainly wasn’t alone in its ascension. The CoinDesk 20 — an index of the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, excluding stablecoins, memecoins and exchange coins — is up 4.3% in the same period of time, buoyed by strong performances from and chainlink , which both notched 6-7% gains, and most other tokens rising at least 3%.

A check at traditional markets shows that risk appetite has returned after last week’s jitters on Israel and Iran launching missiles. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq indexes bounced 0.9% and 1.4%, while safe haven gold declined 1.5%.

Crypto stocks also joined the surge. Coinbase (COIN) and Circle (CRCL) closed the day 7.7% and 13% in the green. Among bitcoin miners, Bitdeer (BTDR) and Hut 8 (HUT) gained 6.9% and 5.6% respectively. Remarkably, one of the only equities in the red was Strategy (MSTR), which lost almost 0.2%, while rival bitcoin treasury companies Metaplanet rose 25% on the Japanese stock market.

Positive crypto-related news added further fuel to today’s rally: JPMorgan has filed a trademark application for a product that seeks to offer digital asset services such as trading, exchange, payment services and issuance. Meanwhile, asset manager Purpose is set to launch its spot XRP exchange-traded fund in Canada as momentum for altcoin-focused ETFs grows.

When altcoin season?

While today’s altcoin outperformance may have inspired some traders’ hope for an imminent alt season, Nansen research analyst Nicolai Søndergaard poured cold water on such expectations.

It’s still bitcoin that’s leading the market, he said, with strength often tracing back to the largest crypto’s performance.

“BTC has mostly served as a trigger for altcoins,” Søndergaard. “Some alts also do well. BTC breaks an ATH? The market likes that.” Some profits from BTC’s rise to fresh record high may have trickled down to other cryptos, while some sectors such as DeFi have enjoyed short-term bursts of outperformance.

“These have, however, not been prolonged runs for alts, and looking at the grand scheme of things, most alts have been bleeding for some time,” he said. The focus is still very much on BTC.”

Bitcoin’s strong rebound from Friday’s low could bode well for the crypto market.

Bitfinex analysts noted that the sentiment index Fear and Greed Index dropped into “Fear” territory last week, while Bitcoin’s Net Taker Volume showed aggressive selling.

“This behavior, combined with a spike in liquidations, resembles past capitulation-style setups that often mark local bottoms,” the analysts said. “If BTC can hold the $102,000-$103,000 zone, it may suggest that selling pressure is being absorbed and that the market could be primed for recovery.”

Eyes on the Fed and Powell

From a macro lens, attention is squarely on the Federal Reserve and Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s press conference.

Investors overwhelmingly expect the Fed to keep benchmark rates steady this week and the following meeting in July, according to the CME FedWatch tool, market participants will focus on Powell’s remarks about clues on how policymakers navigate inflation and job market pressures.

“Powell’s tone, not the rate decision, will drive volatility,” digital asset analytics firm Swissblock said in a Monday note. “Expect whiplash trading across commodities, yields and risk assets.”

New Kioxia 332-layer NAND tops out at 2Tb, bigger SSDs planned without the need for PLC

by admin June 14, 2025

  • Kioxia’s 332-layer NAND delivers 2Tb without using PLC tech
  • Japanese flash giant is focusing on performance and capacity through dual-axis development approach
  • Hints are that it can deliver even larger capacity SSDs, as part of “Gen X”

Kioxia has revealed via updated roadmap materials that its upcoming 332-layer NAND chip – part of its 10th generation BiCS FLASH – will offer 2Tb of capacity per die.

While this may seem small compared to expectations, the Japanese flash memory specialist has hinted that it can deliver even larger capacity SSDs, as part of Gen X, without resorting to Penta-Level Cell (PLC) technology.

The roadmap slides, published by TechPowerUp, were shared as part of Kioxia’s long-term corporate strategy.

Dual-axis strategy

The 332-layer chip, which is currently under development, is part of what Kioxia calls its “dual-axis strategy” for NAND. This strategy splits development into two paths: the first focusing on increasing layer count for higher capacity and the second improving performance via Charge-Based Architecture (CBA).

CBA connects the CMOS circuitry directly to the memory array, helping to increase bandwidth, reduce latency, and lower power consumption.

Kioxia says this approach allows it to boost density without sacrificing the endurance and reliability associated with having fewer bits per cell.

Kioxia’s roadmap doesn’t discuss the company’s plans for PLC, even though other competitors are beginning to explore that direction. Kioxia instead appears to be doubling down on process improvements and new controller designs to meet market demands.

Sign up to the TechRadar Pro newsletter to get all the top news, opinion, features and guidance your business needs to succeed!

The company’s recent focus has been on two SSD families: the CM9 series, which emphasizes high-performance for AI applications, and the LC9 series, which targets large capacity and currently offers up to 122TB capacity.

Both products are based on Kioxia’s 8th generation BiCS FLASH, which introduced CBA and supports energy-efficient, high-throughput workloads.

Kioxia also revealed a high-IOPS SSD that it has developed using its XL-Flash SLC technology. This SSD is expected to exceed 10 million IOPS and sample in the second half of 2026.

Coastal Carolina wins 24th straight, tops Arizona in MCWS opener

by admin June 14, 2025

Jun 13, 2025, 06:00 PM ET

OMAHA, Neb. — Coastal Carolina broke open a tied game with three runs in the eighth inning, Dominick Carbone shut down a threat by Arizona in the ninth and the Chanticleers opened the College World Series with a 7-4 victory Friday.

The Chanticleers (54-11) extended their winning streak to 24 games in their first appearance in Omaha since they beat Arizona in the 2016 finals. They’ll play Sunday night against Oregon State.

“We’ve got a dugout full of hungry and humble dogs,” Coastal Carolina coach Kevin Schnall said.

Arizona (44-20), in the CWS for the first time since 2021, will play Louisville on Sunday.

Coastal Carolina scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to forge a 4-all tie with the Wildcats and took the lead in the eighth after reliever Garrett Hicks (5-1) retired the first two batters.

Wells Skyes sliced an 0-2 pitch just inside the right-field line for a double and Caden Bodine was intentionally walked before Sebastian Alexander, who struck out in his previous three at-bats, singled in the go-ahead run. Arizona closer Tony Pluta came on and gave up Blake Barthol’s two-run double.

“This is my last year of college eligibility and I’m giving it everything I’ve got for this team,” Sykes said. “I’ve got a ton of respect for my teammates and my coaches, and I think the big crowds and the loud environments are helping. We’re locked in. We’re on a crazy win streak. We’re really consistent.

“So I think that’s helped everybody, not just me.”

Schnall said Sykes, the No. 9 batter who transferred from The Citadel, was the right man at the right time in the eighth inning.

“He’s got guts,” Schnall said. “He’s great under tension and stress. He lives for those moments. He’s had some massive hits this postseason starting the conference tournament. But I’m really proud of him because he’s really worked hard and he really bought into the Coastal way Day 1.”

The Wildcats had runners on the corners with no outs in the ninth. Carbone struck out pinch-hitter Dom Rodriguez and then got Brendan Summerhill to hit into a game-ending double play.

“It came down to some great two-strike hitting by them,” Wildcats coach Chip Hale said. “Great pitch almost on the ground. Guy dunks it into right for a double. Then they get jammed, hit a ball into center for a base hit. … That’s why they have the record they have and they’ve been able to run so many off.”

Oregon State 4, Louisville 3

Aiva Arquette scored from first base on Gavin Turley’s drive into the left-field corner in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Oregon State a 4-3 walk-off victory over Louisville on Friday night.

The Cardinals had tied it with two runs in the top half before Oregon State recorded its fourth walk-off win of the season and second in four games.

The No. 8 national seed Beavers (48-14-1), back in Omaha for the first time since they won the national title in 2018, will play Coastal Carolina on Sunday after the Cardinals (40-22) meet Arizona in an elimination game.

Arquette, a projected first-round pick in the MLB amateur draft next month, was having a rough night in the field before delivering his third base hit of the game with one out in the ninth. Turley then sent the first pitch from Jake Schweitzer (4-2) on a line into the corner. Left fielder Zion Rose tried to cut the ball off but couldn’t come up with it, allowing Arquette to be waved home.

“It was cool because it’s the same thing every at-bat for us – go up and compete and hit the ball hard,” Turley said. “Knowing we had the top of the lineup up, I knew we had a chance to do something dangerous.”

Turley was drenched with a bucket of sports drink during the on-field celebration. In the Beavers’ super regional opener last week, Turley scored the winning run on AJ Singer’s walk-off single in a 5-4, 10-inning win over Florida State.

Louisville was left to regroup.

“They took advantage of an unfortunate situation for us, just a little hiccup here or there and you get walked off in the ninth,” Cardinals coach Dan McDonnell said. “Must have been a great game for everybody to watch and enjoy. A lot of good baseball. We came up on the short end.”

The five-hour and 29-minute match is the second-longest men’s major final by time behind the 2012 Australian Open between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, according to ESPN Research.

The remarkable victory gives Alcaraz his fifth career grand slam title. At 22 years and 34 days old, he is the third-youngest man to win five majors in the Open Era.

Prior to Sunday, he was 0-8 at majors when dropping the first two sets, while Sinner had won 39 straight matches at majors after winning the first two sets. Alcaraz saved three match points in the fourth set, becoming just the third man in the Open Era to win a major title after saving at least three match points.

Coco Gauff tops Aryna Sabalenka in 3 sets to win French Open

by admin June 7, 2025

A jubilant Coco Gauff said she had “won the one she wanted” after she picked up her first French Open title at Roland Garros on Saturday, storming back to beat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4 in the most dramatic of Grand Slam finals.

The 21-year-old showed enormous resilience in the face of big hitting by Sabalenka, and a gusting wind, as she won her second Grand Slam title and became the first American to win the French Open since Serena Williams in 2015.

“I didn’t think honestly that I could do it,” Gauff said on court, after accepting the trophy from four-time champion Justine Henin. “But I’d like to quote American rap star Tyler the Creator, who said: ‘If I ever told you that I had a doubt inside me, I must be lying. I think I was lying to myself, because I could do it.

“I also felt like this is one I really wanted, because I do think this was one of the tournaments that, when I was younger, that I felt I had the best shot of winning. I just felt like if I went through my career and didn’t get at least one of these, I would feel regrets and stuff.

“Today, playing Aryna, I was just, like, I’ve just got to go for it and try my best to get through the match. That’s what I did.”

Gauff was congratulated on social media by many famous names, including former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, and said she hoped she had given people at home something to cheer about.

“There’s a lot going on in our country right now with things,” she said. “But just to be able to be a representation of that and a representation of, I guess people that look like me in America who maybe don’t feel as supported during this time period, and so just being that reflection of hope and light for those people.”

Sabalenka had her chances and more than played her part, storming to an early 4-1 40-0 lead and taking the first set on the tiebreak despite failing to serve it out twice. But the Belarusian was guilty of too many unforced errors — 70 in all — as Gauff fought back and then held her nerve under intense pressure in the final set.

As Sabalenka’s final backhand flew agonizingly wide, Gauff fell on her back, almost unable to take in what she had achieved. “Oh my god, oh my god,” she said, before embracing the world No. 1 and then, after shaking hands with the umpire and high-fiving film director Spike Lee, sat courtside.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Gauff said: “It feels great. It was tough. I don’t think either of us were playing great but I knew as soon as I stepped on the court, when I felt that it was windy, it was going to be one of those matches, so I wanted to give myself the best chance on every point.”

It’s a second straight Grand Slam final defeat for Sabalenka, who was in tears as she addressed the crowd, apologizing for what she said was “terrible tennis.”

“Conditions were terrible, and she simply was better in these conditions than me,” Sabalenka told a media conference. “I think it was the worst final I ever played.”

This was the first Slam final between the world’s top two players since Caroline Wozniacki beat Simona Halep to win the Australian Open in 2018 and the first at Roland Garros since Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova in 2013.

Sabalenka went into the match as the favorite, having beaten Gauff in the Madrid Open final last month. But with the roof open and a strong wind gusting around Court Philippe Chatrier, clean ballstriking was almost impossible, the ball dying on the clay one minute and flashing through the court the next.

Gauff held serve to open the final, but Sabalenka was quickly into her stride, holding to love and then breaking to love in the next game, helped by a number of deftly played drop shots. Gauff had shown enormous mental resilience throughout her run to the final, coping with 30 double faults along the way, and she fought back from 0-40 on her serve at 1-3, only to be broken anyway as Sabalenka marched to a 4-1 lead.

At 40-0 on serve in the next game, Sabalenka double-faulted and the tide seemed to turn. Gauff won the next four points, to get one of the breaks back, before holding to love in the next game.

Suddenly, Sabalenka was the one making errors, and Gauff took full advantage, breaking in a long eighth game to level at 4-4, much to the approval of Lee and Dustin Hoffman watching in the stands.

A forehand error from Gauff gave Sabalenka the chance to serve for the set, but she double-faulted on set point and then missed a backhand on the next. After a 13-minute game, Gauff finally broke back as Sabalenka sent a wild forehand over the baseline.

Sabalenka had another chance to serve for the set after breaking for 6-5, but Gauff broke back again, this time with a brilliant backhand pass off a Sabalenka smash. Gauff led the tiebreak 3-0 and 5-3, but Sabalenka put together a string of brilliant points to take it 7-5 and move ahead.

Gauff had battled back from the loss of the first set in beating Madison Keys in the quarterfinals and yet again, she showed her mental courage as she broke in the opening game of the second set.

A second break, to love, gave her a 4-1 lead that she never looked like relinquishing as Sabalenka began to let the wind and the situation get to her, blasting errors all over the place. Though Sabalenka did break back for 2-4, Gauff broke again in the next game and served out to level the match.

Using her drop shot well and moving Sabalenka out of her comfort zone, Gauff broke in the third game of the decider and extended her lead to 3-1. In the fifth game, she had two chances for a second break but couldn’t take them and Sabalenka held, before breaking back to level at 3-3.

But yet again, Gauff showed courage under fire, breaking to love to lead 4-3, holding crucially for 5-3 and then, after Sabalenka held serve, saving a break point and finally clinching victory on her second match point when Sabalenka fired a backhand wide.

An emotional Sabalenka apologized to her team on court and though she vowed to bounce back, she couldn’t get over how badly she felt she played.

“I think it got more windy [after 4-1]. Also, I think I was overemotional. I think today I didn’t really handle myself quite well mentally, I would say. So basically, that’s it.

“I was just making unforced errors. I have to check the statistics. I think she won the match not because she played incredible; just because I made all of those mistakes from, if you look from the outside, kind of like from easy balls.”
