Jimmy Kimmel Isn’t Coming Back for Everyone. How to See If You Can Watch Tonight

by admin September 23, 2025

Millions of Americans are set to miss Jimmy Kimmel’s return to late-night TV on Tuesday, as two major owners of local ABC stations said that they still plan not to air the show.

Nexstar announced today that it is joining Sinclair in continuing their previous plans to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely. Together, the two companies own more than 23 percent of local TV stations that are affiliated with ABC’s national programming. Viewers relying on those stations will instead have to settle for local news.

Nexstar’s announcement comes a day after Disney, which owns ABC, said the late-night talk show would return on Tuesday. The show had been suspended last week following comments Kimmel made after the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Disney’s decision to temporarily pull the show, under pressure from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr, set off a firestorm of its own and fueled a heated national debate over free speech.

Politicians, free-speech advocates, and Hollywood stars came to Kimmel’s defense in the days that followed. And a call to boycott Disney, including canceling Disney+ subscriptions, also went viral online, hitting Disney stock, prompting the House of Mouse on Monday to announce the show’s return.

However, that same day, Sinclair posted on X that it would be preempting the show while discussions with ABC continued.

Nexstar, for its part, said in a press release on Tuesday that it stood by its decision to pull the show, citing Kimmel’s “ill-timed and insensitive” comments.

Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Gizmodo.

How to know if your local ABC station will air Jimmy Kimmy Live!

If your local ABC station is owned by Nexstar or Sinclair, you’ll miss out on Kimmel’s return.

Sinclair operates 38 ABC stations, including those in Washington, D.C., Seattle, and St. Louis. You can see Wikipedia’s full list here.

Nexstar runs 28 ABC stations, including in Salt Lake City and Nashville. The Wikipedia list of Nexstar stations is here.

A timeline of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! controversy

The controversy began after Kirk’s shooting on Wednesday, Sept. 10. In the days that followed, when little was known about the shooter, many conservative politicians and pundits suggested he was motivated by left-wing ideology.

On the night of Monday, Sept. 15, Kimmel pushed back on those claims.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said.

Two days later, on Sept. 17, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr told conservative commentator Benny Johnson: “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

The FCC regulates broadcast television and has the power to suspend a station’s license.

Hours after Carr’s remarks, Nexstar—which is in the process of trying to acquire TEGNA, another owner of TV stations—and Sinclair announced they would preempt the show. ABC soon afterward took action and announced it was suspending the program.

At the time, Sinclair said the suspension was not enough and called for further action from both ABC and the FCC.

The 2025 Emmys Are Tonight. Here’s Everything You Need To Know

by admin September 14, 2025

The biggest night in television is finally here.

The 77th edition of the annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be given out on Sunday night.

The best shows that came out sometime between June 2024 and May 2025 will be awarded across categories.

Apple TV+ is the big winner so far when it comes to nominations. Its fan-favorite show Severance picked up a total of 27 nominations. Lead actors Adam Scott and Britt Lower, who play Mark and Helly on the show, are both nominated for best actor nominations.

HBO’s The Batman spin-off show The Penguin came in second place with 24 nominations.

On the comedy side, critics believe Apple TV+’s take on Hollywood, The Studio, which got an impressive 23 nominations, will dominate the categories its nominated in — Hollywood loves Hollywood!

The Television Academy will also be honoring actor couple Ted Danson (famous for shows like Cheers and The Good Place) and Mary Steenburgen (who you might know from the movie Step Brothers) with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award. The award is given to honor the philanthropic efforts of media figures and has been previously awarded to the likes of Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney.

The Emmy Awards are broken into two weekends. Last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys focused on technical and guest acting categories. The Studio and The Penguin led that show with their wins.

The fan-favorite latest addition to the Star Wars series Andor won four Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including for outstanding fantasy/sci-fi costumes and visual effects. The show is up for an outstanding drama series award tonight but has tough competition against Severance and other big name nominees like HBO’s White Lotus and The Last of Us.

When is it?

The awards ceremony will start at 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET on Sunday night and go on for about three hours.

Where is it?

The ceremony is taking place at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The Primetime Emmys have been held in that theater since 2008. It was formerly known as Nokia Theater and then Microsoft Theater until 2023 when NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service acquired naming rights.

How do I watch it?

CBS will be broadcasting the ceremony live. If you don’t have network television or access to streaming services with live TV like Hulu Live, you can stream the awards on the Paramount+ app. But there is a catch: you can only stream the show live if you’re subscribed to its premium tier, which costs $13 a month and comes with a free trial.

Who’s hosting it?

The show will be hosted by Grammy-nominated comedian Nate Bargatze. It will be Bargatze’s first time hosting the awards show. In 2024, he made $82.2 million from his comedy tour to become the year’s highest grossing stand-up comedian.

Who else is nominated?

Other genre shows, such as Black Mirror, Paradise, and What We Do in the Shadows are also up for awards tonight with at least one nomination each.

Several records were also made in the nominations. Harrison Ford got his first ever Emmy nomination for his work in Apple TV+’s Shrinking.

Kathy Bates became the oldest actress to be nominated for a best lead actress in a drama series award at 77 for her work in CBS’ Matlock.

The 15-year-old star of Netflix’s top-viewed series Adolescence, Owen Cooper, became the youngest person to be nominated for an outstanding supporting actor in a limited series award.

Canelo vs. Crawford Fight: What Time to Watch the Action Tonight on Netflix

by admin September 14, 2025

Saul “Canelo” Álvarez and Terence Crawford step into the ring tonight in a pro boxing matchup that will see Álvarez defending his title as super middleweight champion.

As the crowd descends upon Las Vegas to watch the pair square up, the question lingers in the air of whether Crawford will beef up his weight — and by how much — to meet his opponent’s. While Álvarez is a seasoned super middleweight contender (and current undisputed champion), Crawford has never fought in this weight class and planned to pack on pounds to move up two levels for this fight. However, the Nebraska native is undefeated (41-0 with 31 knockouts) and has earned championship titles in four different weight classes as a lightweight, light middleweight, junior welterweight and welterweight.

Veteran boxer Mike Tyson said he’d like Crawford to win, but he doesn’t believe it’s likely with Álvarez being highly skilled and the weight disparity. But, “There’s been upsets before,” he said.

Like Tyson, viewers are planning to watch the bout to see who wins the title. Scroll down to find out what time to stream the live event on Netflix and who else is on the card.

What time is the Canelo vs. Crawford fight on Netflix?

Fight night kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT), live from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Regardless of plan type, all Netflix subscribers can watch the event around the globe.

Headlining the main card is the Canelo Álvarez vs. Terence Crawford bout, with a combined purse prize of $200 million. Three other fights are on the main card:

  • Callum Walsh vs. Fernando Vargas Jr.
  • Christian Mbilli vs. Lester Martine
  • Mohammed Alakel vs. John Ornelas

Preliminary fights can also be streamed on Netflix’s Tudum site in Spanish and English beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.

James Martin/CNET

Netflix offers three plans, ranging from $8 a month for its ad-free version to $18 or $25 per month if you want to stream without ads. You can also watch the docuseries, Countdown: Canelo vs. Crawford, on the service.

Everything You Need to Know About the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse Tonight

by admin September 7, 2025

Much of the world will get to witness the spectacle of a total lunar eclipse on Sunday night.

A total lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes between the Moon and the Sun, briefly aligning in a way that completely shadows the Moon.

A full moon lunar eclipse happens in three phases. The first phase is the penumbral phase when the Moon starts to enter Earth’s shadow. Then the partial phase begins, when a part of the moon enters the deep part of Earth’s shadow called the umbra.

Next is totality, when the Moon is completely submerged in the Earth’s shadow. Then the phases end in order too. First totality ends, then the partial eclipse and finally the penumbral eclipse ends.

When the Moon is totally submerged in the Earth’s shadow, the light that does reach the moon’s surface has to pass through Earth’s atmosphere. During this, shorter wavelengths of light, like blue, scatter and only the longer wavelengths, like red, reach the surface.

This creates a dark, rusty red hue around the moon during the totality phase, which is why people often refer to total lunar eclipses as the “blood moon.” This blood moon effect is expected to be visible during this eclipse.

The totality phase of Sunday’s lunar eclipse will last an unusually long 83 minutes, one of the longest we will get to experience in decades, according to National Geographic.

Here’s everything you need to know about Sunday’s total lunar eclipse.

How rare is a total lunar eclipse?

The Moon has a tilted orbit, so we don’t get a total lunar eclipse every lunar cycle, which is roughly every month.

Instead, it happens only a few times a year and is only visible on either the Eastern or the Western part of the world each time.

Approximately 29% of lunar eclipses are total lunar eclipses, according to TimeandDate.com.

This year we will only get two. The first one took place earlier this year, on the night bridging March 13 to March 14.

Where will it be visible?

Sadly, the Moon will enter Earth’s shadow during daytime hours for most of the Americas, roughly between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET. So that means American skywatchers will not be able to see Sunday’s eclipse, except for Hawaiians.

Some parts of the archipelago will be able to witness the beginning of the lunar eclipse starting at 5:28 a.m. until 6:15 a.m. local time, but won’t get to watch the full eclipse.

The eclipse will be visible from Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, with the latter two getting the best views.

During the 83-minute total eclipse will start at around 8:30 p.m. in Turkey and Egypt, 11 p.m. in India, 2:30 a.m. in Japan, and 3:30 a.m. in Australian cities like Sydney and Melbourne, all in local time.

How to watch it

Solar eclipses require special glasses to watch, but lunar eclipses don’t require that. All you need is a clear night sky and minimal light pollution for an even better view.

The next one will be visible in the U.S.

The next total lunar eclipse will be on March 3, 2026, according to NASA. It will be visible in all of the Americas, Pacific, and parts of Australia and Eastern Asia.

It’s estimated to be a shorter one than Sunday’s eclipse, with the totality phase to last about 58 minutes.

NFL 2025 Kickoff Game: How to Watch Cowboys vs. Eagles Tonight

by admin September 4, 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles begin their Super Bowl title defense at home against their NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles return with many of the stars from last year’s championship team, including quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley and wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. The Cowboys just traded away their best defensive player in Micah Parsons but should be able to score plenty of points this season with an offense led by Dak Prescott and George Pickens joining CeeDee Lamb at receiver.

The Cowboys and Eagles kick off tonight at 8:20 p.m. ET (5:20 p.m. PT). The game is available to watch nationally on NBC or stream on Peacock.
