PS5 prices increase from tomorrow in the U.S. as Sony “navigates a challenging economic environment”

by admin August 20, 2025

Sony is increasing the price of the PlayStation 5 in the U.S. as of tomorrow, August 21.

In a brief statement posted to the PlayStation Blog during Gamescom, the megacorp said that from tomorrow, the updated recommended retail price for all variations of the PS5 — base, digital edition, and PS5 Pro — will increase to:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

Previously, the PS5 retailed for $499.99, the digital edition $449.99, and the PS5 Pro for $699.99.

“Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.”

Accessory prices remain unchanged, and Sony confirmed it had “no other price changes to announce for additional markets.”

We recently learned that Forza Horizon 5’s PS5 port has surpassed three million copies sold, making it the top new PS5 game of 2025 thus far.

Sony Is Raising The Price Of Every PlayStation 5 Model Tomorrow, August 21

by admin August 20, 2025

Rising video game and console prices have frustrated consumers this year, and today, Sony is adding its flagship console to the list of products getting price hikes. In the United States, the PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, and PS5 Pro are each increasing in price by $50.

According to a blog post from Sony Interactive Entertainment vice president of global marketing, Isabelle Tomatis, the change is due to “a challenging economic environment.” This brings the new prices for each device to the following:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

As of today, prices remain unchanged in other countries, but many of them faced price hikes earlier this year. This news comes a few months after Sony said it was considering raising its prices in the US, but it might not affect consoles. That was, obviously, not the case. Other instances of companies increasing prices lately include Nintendo increasing Switch 2 accessory prices, and Xbox raising its console and game prices back in May. Across the board, it’s a rough time to be paying for new games and hardware.

Meanwhile, Xbox announced its new handheld’s release date today, but won’t reveal its price quite yet, citing “macro-economic conditions.”

Sony Raising Price On PS5 Consoles In America Tomorrow

by admin August 20, 2025

Sony has announced that it is raising prices on all versions of the PlayStation 5 in America. The increased prices go into effect on August 21, giving folks little time to plan ahead of the price hike.

All new PS5 consoles will now cost $50 more in the United States. Here are the new prices:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

“Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment,” said Sony in a very short blog post announcing the news. “As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.”

This is a developing story…

‘I’m sick of it’: James Gunn explains why Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is no longer the DC comic book movie’s name

by admin June 16, 2025

  • Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has been given a much cleaner and shorter title
  • DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has confirmed the name change
  • The superhero movie will be released in theaters worldwide in June 2026

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is no longer the official name of the forthcoming DC comic book movie, James Gunn has revealed.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the DC Studios co-chief confirmed the Milly Alcock-starring film will now go by a much shorter title: Supergirl.

The surprise announcement came right at the start of Rolling Stone’s profile piece on Gunn, which was conducted as part of the promotional campaign for the writer/director’s upcoming Superman film. Asked by the interviewer if he could clarify what Woman of Tomorrow is being referred to as these days, Gunn paused before saying: “I think it’s just called Supergirl.”

Elaborating on the title change, Gunn used Superman’s next big-screen outing, which was originally called Superman: Legacy, to explain why Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘s name had been shortened.

“I’m always cutting [down project titles],” Gunn replied. “Legacy was really – we [DC Studios] do something called a premortem. A premortem is you get together with your group that’s doing the project. It’s usually about a couple months before shooting… [and] one of the things I brought up was, it [Gunn’s Superman movie] was [originally] called Superman: Legacy.

“Even though I was the one that gave it that title, I just wasn’t sure,” Gunn continued. “First of all, I’m sick of the superhero title, colon, other-name thing. Also, it seemed to be looking back when we’re looking forward, even though it does have to do with legacy in the movie itself. And everybody was like, ‘Oh, yeah, no, change it.'”

Woman of Tomorrow, but a title for today

Milly Alcock will play Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in the DCU (Image credit: James Gunn/Twitter)

It might pain some DC comic book fans to learn about Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘s new, truncated titled. After all, the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) movie is basically adapting its eight-issue graphic novel namesake, which was created by comic book writer Tom King and drawn by Bilquis Eveley.

Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.

Nevertheless, in my view, renaming the DCU Chapter One film is the right decision. Supergirl has a much cleaner feel to it. Additionally, for non-DC comic devotees who don’t already know it’ll retell one of Kara Zor-El’s best stories in a live-action format, its new title maintains an air of mystery about what its plot will actually entail.

Then there’s the fact that, unlike more iconic DC heroes including Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, there’s only been one other Supergirl movie: 1984’s Supergirl, which starred Helen Slater and is available to stream on Max. So the prospect of confusing viewers with an identically titled flick over 40 years on from the Maiden of Might’s silver screen debut shouldn’t be of major concern.

All in all, I’m pretty happy that Supergirl has dropped its subtitle. It certainly rolls off the tongue better than its previous moniker, but its title change does mean I’ll need to give my Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow guide a major overhaul. Lucky me, eh?

Supergirl will take flight in theaters worldwide on June 26, 2026.

Japanese Company Ispace’s Probe Expected to Land On The Moon Tomorrow

by admin June 5, 2025

In brief

  • The landing is expected Friday at 4:17 a.m. JST near Mare Frigoris.
  • ispace will be streaming the landing live in Japanese and English.
  • The startup wants to build a lunar city and economy called Moon Valley

Tokyo-listed rocket startup ispace is set for its lunar lander, RESILIENCE, to touch down on the surface of the moon tomorrow morning Japan Standard Time.

RESILIENCE is currently expected to land at 4:17 am JST (3:17 pm ET) near the centre of the Mare Frigoris (Sea of Cold), located 60.5 degrees north latitude and 4.6 degrees west longitude.

The company will stream the landing event starting from 3:10 JST (2:10 pm ET) in both Japanese and English.

If successful, it would mark the first successful moon landing by a private Japanese company.

Takeshi Hakamada, the founder and CEO of ispace, said in a statement he was proud to announce a second attempt at landing on the moon following a failed HAKUTO-R Mission 1 two years ago, when the company lost communication with the lander just before touchdown.

“Since that time, we have drawn on the experience, using it as motivation to move forward with resolve. We are now at the dawn of our next attempt to make history,” said Hakamada.

Founded in 2010, ispace has grown to over 280 employees and has laid out ambitious long-term plans for its lunar exploration, including constructing a lunar settlement dubbed “Moon Valley” by 2040.

The company’s vision includes 1,000 permanent moon inhabitants and 10,000 annual visitors, and the creation of a thriving “cislunar economy” between the Earth and the moon.

“We view the success of the lunar landing as merely a stepping stone toward that goal,” Hakamada said.

Ispace is part of a broader wave of private-sector interest in space and interplanetary travel. Last week, Elon Musk unveiled SpaceX’s vision to establish a self-sustaining colony on Mars by the end of the next decade.

However, that effort still faces significant technological hurdles, with Starship rockets continuing to experience failures in test flights.

As for lunar ambitions, the last crewed mission to the moon was NASA’s Apollo 17 in 1972. NASA aims to return astronauts to the moon by 2027, while China targets a manned moon landing by 2030. Both timelines have faced delays.

But uncrewed probe missions have surged in recent years. Since 2020, China’s Chang’e 5 and 6 have returned lunar samples, India has landed its Vikram probe, and Japan has deployed small rovers LEV-1 and LEV-2.

Private U.S. firms such as Intuitive Machines and Firefly Aerospace have also conducted successful landings.

PlayStation State of Play announced for tomorrow

by admin June 4, 2025

Joining the upcoming rush of summer’s various showcases and reveals is PlayStation, which has announced its next State of Play.

Those interested in finding out more about what Sony has been cooking up behind the scenes will be able to tune in tomorrow, 4th June, at 10pm UK time. That’s 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CEST.

While the team is remaining coy about what will be shown – this isn’t a game specific State of Play a la April’s Borderlands 4 showcase – there should be plenty to whet appetites for the coming months.

The Death of Console Exclusives Is Inevitable and I Don’t Know How I Feel About It. Watch on YouTube

“Watch live for news and updates on must-play games coming to PS5. The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe,” reads an accompanying PlayStation blog post. The show will last for “40+” minutes.

Of course, there is a chance we will hear more about the PS5’s Ghost of Yōtei, which is set for release on 2nd October. Developer Sucker Punch previously said it is going to ensure Ghost of Yōtei has a less repetitive open world compared to its predecessor, with criticisms for Ghost of Tsushima often directed at its somewhat repetitive activities, so maybe we will get a taste of that later this week.

The PS5 exclusive Death Stranding 2 will also likely be part of the upcoming State of Play even if it is more of a brief teaser rather than anything too chonky, given that Kojima Productions is hosting its own dedicated On the Beach showcase this coming Sunday.

Oh, also, a Wolverine release date, perhaps?

What are you hoping to see crop up at the next PlayStation State of Play?

As always, we here at Eurogamer will keep you abreast of all the reveals and news when the time comes. Stay tuned!

After many bet against it, a PS5 State of Play is coming tomorrow with over 40 minutes of game reveals

by admin June 3, 2025

Sony has officially announced that it’s going to be hosting an event in June after all. It’s going to be of the State of Play variety, and it will be airing live tomorrow. Sony has, in recent years, made a habit of announcing those livestreams one or two days before the event’s scheduled date.

This June’s State of Play is no different, and it looks like it won’t be heavy on first-party games.

This week’s State of Play will be live tomorrow, June 4 at 2pm PT, 5pm ET, 10pm UK. In the announcement blog post, Sony said we can expect “news and updates” on games coming to PS5.

“The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe,” the blog post adds, which really doesn’t tell us much. It is clear, however, that this won’t be a first-party-focused show, though it is curious that Sony elected not to use the terms ‘first’ or ‘third-party’ in the announcement.

In any case, this State of Play is going to a little beefy, clocking in at over 40-minutes-long. As always, you’ll be able to watch it live on PlayStation’s official Twitch, and YouTube channels.

This week is going to be very busy with events and game reveals. Summer Game Fest’s live opening show is scheduled for Friday, June 6, and the first edition of IO Interactive’s IOI Showcase is taking place just a couple of hours later on the same day.

Then, on Sunday, June 8, Xbox will take its turn to host its own showcase, which will be followed by a dedicated The Outer Worlds 2 direct, so it’s all popping off. EA and Ubisoft are seemingly going to sit this one out, but we wouldn’t bet against some of their rumoured and in-development games showing up at one (or more) of these shows.

Enterprise Communication Evolution: Avaya’s Infinity Platform Bridges the Gap Between What’s Needed Today and Expected Tomorrow

by admin May 23, 2025

Enterprises find themselves at a pivotal moment in communication technology, facing a difficult decision: embrace modern technology or protect their investments in existing systems. This has created a divide between all-new cloud solutions and approaches that work with the infrastructure organizations already have in place. Avaya’s new Infinity platform solves this dilemma by offering a way to do both.

Bridging Technological Divides

The enterprise communication technology landscape has fragmented into distinct camps. On one side stand cloud-native solutions promising flexibility and innovation but requiring complete system replacement. On the other hand, traditional vendors offer incremental improvements to on-premise systems without fundamentally reimagining their architecture.

Our approach with Avaya Infinity platform targets the substantial middle ground with a hybrid solution for enterprises seeking modernization without abandoning functional infrastructure investments. This hybrid model acknowledges a fundamental reality: most large organizations operate complex technology ecosystems built over decades, making complete replacements impractical regardless of the benefits.

Differentiated Architecture

What differentiates Avaya Infinity platform is its architectural approach. It’s a secure platform that ensures compliance, deployment flexibility, and top-tier performance — a single code base across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments. Rather than forcing customers into two distinct choices, Avaya Infinity platform offers:

  • Modern, Secure, Ready-to-Use Architecture: The unified platform with a single code base delivers the flexibility, security, and control that large enterprises expect. This approach ensures data privacy, regulatory compliance, and unmatched scalability. The modular design enables organizations to activate specific capabilities without implementing the entire platform—essential for phased adoption strategies.
  • Layered, Intelligent Orchestration: AI capabilities function as an enhancement layer across both cloud and on-premises components, end-to-end, allowing intelligence to flow throughout the platform regardless of where components physically reside. It unifies AI, native applications, and disparate systems, whether they’re from Avaya, our partners, or enterprises’ existing own infrastructures. This empowers enterprises with a seamless, single-source approach to business agility and desired outcomes.
  • Data-Driven Customization: Enterprises can customize experiences for their customers, contact center agents, and employees by leveraging rich data insights. With intelligent engagement tools, this platform enables hyper personalization at every touchpoint, driving satisfaction and loyalty.

This architecture addresses the realities enterprises face in the contact center. The vast majority of organizations simply cannot afford operational disruption during technological transformation, yet they’re also unable to ignore competitive pressure to implement AI-powered experiences.

The Strategic Benefits

Avaya Infinity platform offers a hybrid solution that enables organizations to:

  • Extend the value of existing investments while incrementally introducing new capabilities
  • Deploy AI capabilities selectively based on specific business needs and readiness
  • Scale cloud adoption at a pace aligned with organizational change capacity
  • Maintain operational stability throughout transformation processes

For those managing customer experience strategies, this approach transforms the contact center into a connection center ─ connecting channels (voice and digital), connecting insights (data and behavior), connecting technologies (unifying AI, applications and disparate systems), and connecting workflows (delivering hyper personalized experiences). When customer interactions generate not just service outcomes but actionable intelligence, every conversation becomes a source of competitive advantage.

Balancing Innovation and Stability

The enterprise technology landscape has historically swung between innovation cycles and stability periods. Today’s environment is unique in demanding both simultaneously—rapid innovation in customer experience alongside operational stability in core systems.

Avaya Infinity platform embraces this hybrid reality offer a compelling vision: transformation without operational upheaval. Its architecture is enabled by existing investments while enabling future capabilities, indicating that for most enterprises, technology evolution occurs on a continuum rather than through discrete revolutions.

The Path Forward

Avaya Infinity platform supports sustainable transformation strategies using on-premise investments while systematically introducing AI-powered innovations. It delivers what enterprises need today and expect tomorrow.
