As Chrono Trigger celebrates 30th anniversary, spiritual successor Threads of Time gets fresh gameplay trailer

by admin September 29, 2025

The Chrono Trigger-inspired retro RPG Threads of Time has received a new gameplay trailer, showing off more of its time-travelling narrative.

From Canadian developer Riyo Games, Threads of Time was first revealed at last year’s Tokyo Game Show. Now, a year later, this new trailer was shown at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct and it looks to be progressing nicely.

As with Square Enix’s iconic classic, Threads of Time will take place across a number of time periods, from prehistory to a cyberpunk future, and is presented similarly to the Octopath Traveller HD-2D aesthetic.

Threads of Time gameplay trailer – PC Gaming Show Tokyo DirectWatch on YouTube

One minute the adventurers are strolling through a bustling medieval town and battling the sort of fluffy or botanical creatures you’d typically expect in an RPG; the next they’re exploring sci-fi facilities and a rain-soaked futuristic metropolis with flying cars overhead.

There are some beautiful animated scenes chopped in too, though I hope the character designs don’t lean too heavily on Chrono Trigger nostalgia – I’m looking at you, robot.

What’s really struck me, though, is the look of the battles. These are turn-based, but have a strong sense of depth with a perspective sitting between Octopath and Dragon Quest as characters fight across the foreground and background with some evocative environments.

There’s no release date yet, though presumably it’s set for release on PC.

It’s also well-timed, following the critically acclaimed Sea of Stars from fellow Canadian studio Sabotage as another Chrono Trigger-inspired retro RPG. That game’s DLC Throes of the Watchmaker was recently released, if you need an excuse to return.

What’s more, Square Enix is this year celebrating the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger and promised various projects would be released, sparking hope for some form of remake or remaster.

It’s still unclear what’s happening there, even as fans cry out for a re-release on current hardware. Until then, Threads of Time could well fill the gap.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ next update adds in a cool staff, Ezio’s threads, and some neat quality of life bits

by admin September 11, 2025

You want an Assassin’s Creed Shadows update? You’ve got an Assassin’s Creed Shadows update! Well, you will tomorrow, September 11th anyway, but Ubisoft did release the patch notes for the action game in any case. Here’s what you can expect for the Assassin’s Creed Shadows 1.1.1 title update! First up is the fact that the game will be ready for its first expansion, Claws of Awaji, which is due out next week, September 16th. The level cap is also being raised to 100 to account for the expansion!

For everyone who won’t be picking up the expansion, there is a new free story quest, Go With The Bo. Here you’ll join Junjiro as he sets out to meet a legendary Bo master and a new weapon that Naoe can use, the Bo staff. There’s also new hideout upgrades, including two more upgrade levels, 20 new enhancements, and three new Hideout levels. Upgrading the Nando to level two will now give you the ability to meditate and move the time forward to the next six o’clock, AM or PM.

If you upgrade the study to level four, scouts will now have the ability to reveal viewpoints and safehouses, and with upgrading the Kakurega to the same level, uncovering all viewpoints within a province reveals it completely.

There are two new gear quality tiers that you can upgrade your kit to if you’ve got your forge to level six, called mythic and artifact. “Once an item reaches a new quality, it can be further upgraded through eight additional levels to unlock its full potential,” the patch notes explain.

Ubisoft still can’t seem to let go of Ezio either, as in the Animus Hub there are some fresh rewards for a new project called Sanctuary. These include Ezio’s outfit, Ezio’s outfit but for a cat, an Ezio-themed kusarigama, and a Charm of Firenze trinket.

There are also new anomalies to be found in Awaji if you own the expansion, and cutscenes are no longer limited to 30 FPS. You’ll also find a number of other fixes and tweaks, but you can read the full patch notes to learn about those small details.

JMU’s icy white threads top best Week 2 college football uniforms

When you’re looking to make a statement in the College Football Playoff race, it’s always wise to keep style in mind.

The James Madison Dukes cruised in their Week 1 opener against Weber State, but will hit the road for a major test against the Louisville Cardinals in Week 2. Playing under the lights Friday night (7 p.m. ET, ESPN2), the Sun Belt contenders will look to pull off a power conference upset and assert themselves as an early contender for the top Group of 5 team in the country.

The Dukes will contrast the Friday night sky with their uniforms — a simple but clean all-white look.

Accenting the white threads will be the school’s primary colors, purple and gold, featured on the jersey’s numbers and nameplate as well as on a stripe running down the center of the helmets.

James Madison won’t be the only team bringing uniform heat this weekend. Here are some of the top uniforms from Week 2 of the college football season.

Local pride

You might have heard of the Idaho Vandals. But how about the Idaho Fightin’ Taters?

No? Don’t worry, it’s a limited-time moniker — in its Week 2 home opener against the St. Thomas-Minnesota Tommies, Idaho football will don helmets that feature the text “Fightin’ Taters.” The helmet pays homage to the state’s deep connection with the potato industry. The distinctive black lid will be paired with a matching all-black jersey and pants set, completing a look that’s memorable and sleek.

Speaking of a school honoring its location, the SMU Mustangs are making clear what city their program represents with their uniforms.

The Mustangs’ Dallas threads come with a number of unique elements — most noticeably, the jersey has the city’s name in script on the front, as opposed to the customary “SMU.” Dallas is honored on the helmets as well, as the school’s red mustang motif is placed inside the negative space of a “D” outline.

The UTEP Miners call El Paso, Texas — nicknamed the Sun City — home, and the team is paying homage to the city’s moniker on its helmets this week.

The lids feature a unique logo design that includes the nickname positioned under a mountain sunset, with the negative space between the “Sun City” text and sunset forming the Miners’ traditional pickaxe emblem. The sun rays take inspiration from El Paso’s city flag.

It’s a standard blue and white uniform for the Buffalo Bulls this week, but with one notable twist on the helmet art.

This week’s helmets for the Bulls will prominently feature the numbers 716 on one side, an homage to the city of Buffalo’s traditional area code.

Slick threads

You won’t find many color schemes as pretty as the one the Rice Owls are rolling with this Saturday.

The light blue the Owls are repping is already easy on the eyes, but what really makes the uniform are the colors accenting that shade. Navy complements the baby blue on helmets and shoulder sleeves, and the numbers are outlined in red, creating a look akin to the powder blue threads once donned by the Houston Oilers.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs host the No. 12 Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, seeking to pull off a major upset in a prime-time kickoff.

The Bulldogs’ uniforms reflect the nighttime kickoff — the team is going with an all-black look for the SEC vs. Big 12 matchup. The black helmet, jersey and pants are complemented by maroon stripes that run across the shoulder sleeves and down the center of the helmet.

It’s easy to score a hit with all-white threads, and the Liberty Flames are rolling with their own variation of the classic look against Jacksonville State.

In addition to a clean script “Liberty” on the front of the jersey, the distinguishing feature of the Flames’ uniforms comes on the helmet. Instead of the school’s name or logo, the helmet features a cartoon eagle in mid-throwing motion.

After an all-gold Week 1, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are sticking with the color-rush style theme for Week 2.

This time, Minnesota is going all-in on the school’s other primary color, maroon. The Golden Gophers will don maroon pants, jerseys and helmets this week, with the helmet featuring an outline of Goldy Gopher as opposed to the standard block M design.

Meta is experimenting with long-form text on Threads

by admin August 28, 2025

Meta seems to be working on ways for Threads users to share long-form writing within a single post. Several users have reported seeing a new “attach text” feature on the service, which allows them to embed large chunks of text within a single post.

The feature, which hasn’t been formally announced by Meta, is similar to the “articles” feature that’s available on X to Premium+ subscribers. It enables Threads users to embed longer text excerpts within a single Threads post and offers some basic formatting options. “Attach longer text and get creative with styling tools to share deeper thoughts, news snippets, book excerpts and more,” Meta explains in a screenshot shared byThreads user Justin Mixon.

Though the feature hasn’t been rolled out widely yet, it appears that anyone can view these longer text snippets that have already been shared. On mobile, these attachments open into a full-screen view that makes it easy to scroll through the text. On threads.com, text appears in a dedicated window. (Here are a couple examples shared by Threads user Roberto Nickson.)

It’s not clear what Meta’s plans are for the feature. Engadget confirmed the company is currently testing the ability to share long-form text, but it’s not clear when it might be more widely available. The ability to embed long-form writing directly on Threads could open up new possibilities for creators, publishers and others who want to move beyond the service’s 500-character limit.

Engadget’s reporting has found that the vast majority of Threads users don’t click on links in posts, so giving users more flexibility within Threads itself could be helpful. At the same time, it risks making the 400-million user service even more insular. It’s also worth noting that screenshots currently indicate posts with text attachments aren’t able to be shared to services within the fediverse, which could potentially undermine Meta’s goal to be interoperable with other ActivityPub-enabled platforms like Mastodon.
