Canadian police investigating after beef thieves steal $160k worth of product

by admin August 22, 2025

Windsor police are investigating the theft of a semi-trailer loaded with more than $160,000 worth of beef after it was stolen in broad daylight earlier this month.

Authorities said the trailer, which held 530 boxes of boneless beef chuck roast, was taken from a parking lot on Cabana Road East near Windsor International Airport on August 2. The theft happened at around 6:30 p.m.

Investigators believe a dark grey Jeep Rubicon and a white Cascadia Freightliner were used in the crime. Two suspects were seen breaking into the truck before hooking up the trailer and driving away. Police say the vehicle is thought to have headed east on Highway 401.

Police ask for information

The first suspect is described as slim with long curly dark hair, dressed in all black. The second wore dark pants, a light-coloured shirt, and a dark baseball hat.

Windsor police are asking residents and businesses along Cabana Road East, between Walker Road and Baseline Road, to review security or dashcam footage for possible evidence.

As for their motivation, it’s unclear why they’d want to steal so much meat and what they plan to do with it.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Windsor police’s Target Base Unit or provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

This isn’t the first high-dollar food theft to take place over the last couple of years. Back in 2024, a 63-year-old man was arrested in the UK after allegedly stealing $400,000 worth of cheese.

How To Find The Thieves Den

by admin June 25, 2025

Who doesn’t love free player housing? If you’re a thief, any of the city’s homes will suffice as a temporary base of operations. But none of them come with a Fence (albeit for a small sum of 1,000 Gold). You know what does? The Thieves Den in Oblivion Remastered! It’s a DLC player home packaged with the remaster that offers money-making opportunities and a home away from home when you need to branch out on your own away from the Thieves Guild. Here’s where to find it and claim it as yours!

What Is Dragonsplague? Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Devastating Contagion Explained

How to find the Thieves Den

Like most optional content and side quests in Oblivion Remastered, you’re most likely to first discover the Thieves Den—a DLC player house that’s included as part of the remaster by hearing a rumor from random NPCs. Of course, exploration helps, too. But that said, this is more than a simple player house. It’s a money-making machine for the right type of playstyle—specifically a thief or pirate-type—and with the appropriate upgrades, it even features a bonafide Fence, Spymaster, and a personal Fletcher for you stealth archer types out there.

Read More: Three Essential Things Oblivion Remastered Doesn’t Tell You

For now, let’s focus on finding the player house. It’s located southeast of Anvil. On the map, it appears as Dunbarrow Cave, but there’s a problem. The cave icon is on the wrong hill. If you follow the in-game map precisely, you’ll wind up in the wrong location. Instead, head to said location, then turn back toward the Anvil castle to the north. You’ll note a little cove between the castle and a rocky outcropping. There, beneath the castle walls, is a wooden door.

The cave beyond the door isn’t overly confusing or labyrinthian. Follow the lights until you find the door leading to Smuggler’s Cave. Inside, you’re greeted by an expansive cavern filled with little campsites and a broken pirate ship. But worse, there are skeletons. They’re tough, depending on your level. Plus, there’s the captain inside the Captain’s Quarters to contend with.

You’re most likely a thief or archer class, considering your desire to claim the Thieves Den, so use that bow or a hard-hitting dagger while kiting the skeletons. You can bunch them up on the bridges, or use the boxes leading down to the main section of the ship in the center of the room to funnel them towards you for easy mob management.

Once you’ve finished with the captain, read through his four diaries on the floor. They’ll explain all you need to know about restoring the cavern to its former pirate-laden glory!

How to upgrade the Thieves Den

There are only a handful of upgrades available from Dahlia Rackham, at The Sea Tub Clarabella—a merchant ship docked at the Anvil port.

  • Supplier (1,000 Gold)
  • Security Expert (1,000 Gold)
  • Fence (1,000 Gold)
  • Fletcher (1,000 Gold)
  • Spymaster (1,000 Gold)
  • Upgrade Player Quarters (500 Gold)

You’ll note there aren’t as many upgrade options for the Thieves Den as there are those available for the Fighters’ Stronghold. Here, you can spend just under 6,000 gold—a modest sum for any adventurer or thief—and wind up with a fully furnished pirate den that’ll make you money with each passing day. But perhaps the biggest boon is its Fence. How many times must you track down a viable fence to sell your stolen goods? It’s a pain. But now, you’ll have your own at the Thieves Den!

Oh, and don’t forget to grab the Smuggler’s Key within the Captain’s Quarters. It’ll open a secret passage connecting the Smuggler’s Cave to Anvil Castle.

Oblivion Remastered is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PCs, and Game Pass.

Multiplayer stealing sim Thick As Thieves lets you leave snide calling cards when you beat people to the loot

by admin June 22, 2025

While prowling the ramparts of this year’s Summer Game Fest, I rode a zipline to a broken attic window and snuck into a sealed chamber containing Thick As Thieves, the unofficial multiplayer Thief game from Otherside Entertainment. Also in the sealed chamber: celebrated Looking Glass dude and Deus Exman Warren Spector, who walked us through a hands-off demo of the PvPvE heisting sim.

I didn’t, if I’m honest, see much that wasn’t broadly covered by Jeremy Peel’s write-up of Thick As Thieves from last December. As such, I’m in two minds about whether to do a full impressions piece – this news article is testing the waters. But I did turn up a few objects of novelty. For one, the new multiplayer burgling sim features an ability that lets you pose temporarily as an NPC, as with the Semblance power in Dishonored: Death Of The Outsider. For another, it turns out that when you rob a joint, you can leave a knavish calling card for other players hunting the same treasure.

It’s possible, Spector told me, that you’ll be able to customise your calling cards, beyond just displaying your player alias. Being a fundamentally vindictive person, I already have a few ideas for what I’d write on mine.

[placeholder]

The earlier bird caught the worm.

The second mouse did not get the cheese.

The third anteater did not bag the swag.

The fourth raccoon did not scoop the loot.

You snoozed and you losed.

Opportunity knocked.

The real treasure was hopefully the friends you made along the way.

IOU one quest reward

Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll.

Behind you.

Naturally, a topic like this demands the attention of the full Treehouse. I asked our recently recruited newsfiend Mark what he’d put on his card, and he suggested transcribing the entirety of this Seinfeld video into the textbox. James, our hardware Gandalf, came back with “didn’t expect weak foe”. Reviews reassembler Brendy had the pithiest and, I think, most obnoxious proposal: “first”.

But you, reader dear – what would you leave on your catburgling calling card?

Warren Spector’s Thick As Thieves shows off sneaking in emergent thunderstorms and grappling hooks

by admin June 6, 2025

Nothing makes me feel like a sneakers-for-sneaking wearing master thief in video games more than discovering a window on a roof that the developers left in a very obvious spot precisely so I’d feel clever for using it, and in this at least, Otherside’s PvP stealth game Thick As Thieves looks to have me covered. Deus Ex creator Warren Spector introduced some pre-alpha footage this evening, and while I won’t pretend I’m actually likely to play anything PvP anytime soon that isn’t Mechabellum, I enjoyed seeing how they’ve adapted some of that classic immersive sim DNA Spector is known for into a competitive format.

Watch on YouTube

“We’re trying to have all the bells and whistles of an immersive stealth game,” says Otherside’s Shafi Adams. “Hiding in shadows. Understanding NPC pathing and vision cones and timing your movements. Lockpicking your way through a guarded location”. The “x factor”, he says, is the presence of other players in all this. “I don’t know what another player’s going to do,” says Otherside’s Valerie Kromas. “Are they going to pickpocket me?”. I mean, probably not, now you’ve said it. Seems like a trap.

The footage shows off a few tools like grappling hooks, smoke grenades, and bonking clubs, the latter of which you can use to knock out the NPC guards you’ll find as well as other players. The game’s audio director also talked about the importance of sound to navigate your way around the levels safely on the way to complete your personal quests, giving the example of using emergent thunderstorms or passing trains to cover your footsteps.

The most important part of this presentation was, of course, the reveal that Spector owns a boxed copy of Games Workshop’s Dark Future – a 1988 Mad Max style vehicle combat game with adorable miniature motorbikes in it. Can I…borrow your Dark Future please, Warren? Jeremy Peel did a big interview with Greg LoPiccolo and Spector on Thick Of Thieves for us recently. Why didn’t you ask if I could borrow his Dark Future, Jeremy?

You can sign up to playtest Thick As Thieves here, and find it on Steam here.
