Instagram tests opening right onto Reels

by admin October 2, 2025

Instagram is testing a potentially major change to the app: making Reels the home tab of the app. As part of an opt-in test in India, Meta is making Reels and DMs the first two tabs on the app, according to Instagram head Adam Mosseri. Mosseri says that Reels and DMs have been a key driver of growth for Instagram over the past few years, which is why it’s “exploring” the change.

In a video in his post, you can see how the new home tab would work. Part of the tab will look familiar, like the horizontal list of Stories to check out at the top, but when you start to scroll up, the layout shifts into what you might recognize from the current Reels tab, where pretty much the entire screen is filled with video. Photos from accounts you follow will still be included in this revised version of the home tab, Mosseri says, but the video doesn’t show how.

Instagram has already been dabbling with this shift with its recently-launched iPad app, which opens into Reels from its home tab. In its post announcing the app, Meta said that it designed the experience that way “to reflect how people use bigger screens today – for lean back entertainment.” But this new test indicates that Instagram is thinking about making Reels an even more prominent part of its main mobile app, too.

Asia Morning Briefing: BTC Traders Brace for Fed Cuts But Massive $4.5B Liquidity Tests Loom

by admin September 17, 2025

Good Morning, Asia. Here's what's making news in the markets:

Welcome to Asia Morning Briefing, a daily summary of top stories during U.S. hours and an overview of market moves and analysis. For a detailed overview of U.S. markets, see CoinDesk's Crypto Daybook Americas.
Polymarket and CME FedWatch are aligned: the Fed’s easing cycle begins tomorrow. Both have a 25 bps cut locked in for the next FOMC meeting, with odds building for a three-cut path through year-end.

Polymarket traders leave more room for aggressive easing, while CME assigns steadier probabilities of 25 bps steps. Either way, markets see 75 bps in cuts as the baseline for 2025.

Market conviction around the Fed pivot is already showing up on-chain, with BTC trading at $116,762, up 1.3% on the day and 4.7% on the week, while ETH sits at $4,502, up 4.3% on the week as traders price in the cuts.

Now, some traders are sitting on the sidelines to see just how the market might react as the Fed announces cuts.

In a recent report, CryptoQuant data shows bitcoin exchange inflows have dropped to a 7-day average of just 25,000 BTC, the lowest in more than a year and a half; the level seen in mid-July when BTC first crossed $120,000. The average BTC deposit size has also halved to 0.57 BTC, evidence that large holders are sitting idle rather than rushing to sell.

ETH is seeing the same pattern: exchange inflows have fallen to a two-month low of 783,000 ETH, down sharply from 1.8 million in August. The average ETH deposit has declined to 30 ETH from 40–45 ETH earlier this summer, suggesting reduced sell-side activity from whales.

If BTC and ETH are being hoarded, stablecoins are flowing in CryptoQuant writes in its report. USDT deposits into exchanges surged to $379 million at the end of August, the highest this year, and remain elevated at $200 million. The average daily USDT deposit has doubled since July, giving exchanges the “dry powder” needed to support a post-Fed rally.

But the flows aren’t uniform. Altcoins are seeing a resurgence of exchange activity, with transaction deposits climbing to a 7-day total of 55,000, up from a flat 20,000–30,000 range earlier this year. That divergence signals possible profit-taking in higher-beta names even as BTC and ETH supply remains tight.

“September brings a wave of token unlocks totaling $4.5 billion, a dynamic that could pressure liquidity and test market absorption,” OKX Singapore CEO Gracie Lin wrote in a note to CoinDesk.

True opportunity lies beyond short-term volatility, Lin argued.

“Stablecoins are nearing $300 billion in supply, token unlocks are putting market depth to the test, and major infrastructure upgrades like Nasdaq’s move toward tokenized securities are signaling that crypto is becoming part of the global financial system, not an outlier,” she wrote.

The message is clear: the Fed pivot is nearly priced in. What matters now is whether crypto’s liquidity buffers, stablecoins, exchange inflows, and token unlocks can absorb the shocks and channel capital into the next leg higher for BTC.

Market Movement

BTC: BTC is trading above $116,500 as traders are optimistic about potential U.S. interest rate cuts. Technical factors such as the closing of futures gaps have added upward pressure. Some caution is setting in ahead of the Fed meeting.

ETH: ETH is trading with modest strength, supported by overall crypto market momentum (dominated by BTC), but with some resistance as investors weigh macro risks and await clarity on policy from the Fed.

Gold: Gold is hitting record highs, driven by expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will cut rates, a weakening U.S. dollar, and heightened geopolitical or macroeconomic uncertainty. Safe‑haven demand from investors is strong.

Nikkei 225: Asia-Pacific stocks fell on Wednesday morning, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 down 0.3%, as investors tracked Wall Street losses and awaited a likely Fed rate cut decision.

S&P 500: The S&P 500 slipped 0.13% to 6,606.76 Tuesday as investors booked profits ahead of the Fed’s rate decision after touching a record high earlier.

Polkadot price tests resistance as DAO caps DOT supply

by admin September 15, 2025

Polkadot’s price is pressing against a key resistance zone as the network’s DAO approved a landmark proposal to cap DOT supply at 2.1 billion.

Summary

  • Polkadot DAO approved Referendum 1710, capping DOT supply at 2.1B.
  • DOT trades at $4.37, up 8% in a week but near key resistance at $4.50.
  • Derivatives volumes have cooled, signaling reduced speculative activity.

At the time of writing, Polkadot was down 0.7% over the previous day, trading at $4.37. Despite the dip, DOT has gained 8% over the past week and 11% in the last 30 days, though it remains 92% below its 2021 all-time high.

Polkadot’s (DOT) trading volume over the past 24 hours is $235.3 million, which represents a 51.5% decrease from the day before and indicates a slowdown in market activity. Coinglass data shows that open interest dropped 2.35% to $605 million, while derivatives volume dropped 43% to $446.5 million.

This indicates that although overall interest in DOT futures is still high, traders are lowering speculative positions in response to recent volatility.

A new chapter for DOT supply

In a major governance milestone, the Polkadot DAO approved Referendum 1710 on Sept. 14, with 81% voting in favor of introducing a hard supply cap of 2.1 billion DOT.

🚨 DOT supply → capped at 2.1 Billion 🚨

The Polkadot DAO has signaled support for a hard cap, by passing Referendum 1710 on the “Wish For Change” track, with 81% in favor.

— Polkadot (@Polkadot) September 14, 2025

Until now, the network minted roughly 120 million new DOT each year, around 10% inflation, with no ceiling on total supply. Under the new plan, issuance will step down every two years on March 14, eventually limiting supply to under 2 billion by 2040.

The move gives a token that has always been inflationary by design predictability and scarcity. Although the referendum is not legally binding, it does represent a growing community consensus for stronger fiscal discipline.

Gavin Wood, who recently returned as chief executive officer of Parity Technologies, framed the cap as part of a broader effort to prepare Polkadot for its 2.0 upgrade later this month. The update intends to reduce developer expenses while pushing throughput to new heights with features like Agile Coretime and Elastic Scaling.

Polkadot price analysis

DOT is currently testing a resistance level at $4.50, which has been the cap on rallies on multiple occasions in recent weeks. Momentum indicators are mixed. With the relative strength index at 61, the market is leaning toward bullish territory but is neither overbought nor oversold.

The majority of moving averages, ranging from the short-term 10-day to the long-term 200-day, continue to support an upward trend, and the MACD has turned positive, suggesting underlying strength. At the same time, the Commodity Channel Index and momentum readings warn of possible pullbacks, which makes the $4.00 level crucial to watch.

The next target might be $4.80 or even $5.00 if DOT gains traction. If sellers take control, $3.80 offers a stronger cushion, while $4.00 offers the first layer of support on the downside.

Ondo price tests breakout as RWA market value hits new peak

by admin September 12, 2025

Ondo climbed above $1.09 on Sept. 12, extending a week-long rally that has put the token in position to test a breakout zone just as real-world asset tokens hit record market value.

Summary

  • Ondo price rose 8% in the past day, testing a breakout zone with surging trading and derivatives activity.
  • The total value of tokenized RWAs crossed $29B this week, while RWA tokens hit a $76B market cap.
  • Trust Wallet’s new tokenized stocks feature, powered by Ondo, boosted short-term sentiment.

At press time, ONDO was trading at $1.09, up 8% in the past 24 hours, within a seven-day range of $0.8974–$1.13. Although the token has increased by 19% in the last week and 4% in the last 30 days, it is still 50% below its peak of $2.14, which was set in Dec. 2024.

Ondo’s (ONDO) 24-hour volume reached $485.39 million, an 85.5% increase from the day before, indicating a surge in trading activity. There were significant inflows into derivatives as well. As per Coinglass data, open interest increased by 14% to $585.74 million, while ONDO futures volume rose 67% to $1.38 billion.

Increasing derivatives volume indicates rising speculative activity, and higher open interest suggests that traders are holding more positions, which is often a sign of larger price swings ahead.

RWA market boom lifts Ondo

The rally coincided with a wider surge in tokenized assets. The market capitalization of RWA tokens rose from about $67 billion to nearly $76 billion over the past week, setting a new high. Meanwhile, the total value of tokenized assets on-chain surpassed $29 billion for the first time, based on data from RWA.xyz.

Ondo has been at the center of this momentum. Together with Ondo, Trust Wallet introduced tokenized U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds on Sept. 9. The integration enables users globally to trade stocks like Apple and Tesla onchain without the need for brokers, with the help of the decentralized exchange aggregator 1inch (1INCH).

Ondo’s protocol total value locked has also expanded significantly this year, rising from $650 million in January to $1.56 billion as of Sept. 12, according to DefiLlama data.

Ondo price technical analysis

The ONDO/USDT daily chart shows the token pressing against the upper Bollinger Band near $1.13, supported by rising volume. A relative strength index of 66 suggests building momentum but not yet overbought conditions.

Ondo daily chart: crypto.news

The majority of moving averages, ranging from the 200-day SMA to the 10-day EMA, show bullish alignment, offering a constructive backdrop.

MACD readings display a buy signal, but momentum has slowed, suggesting potential short-term consolidation. If the $1.13 resistance is decisively broken, it may set up a move toward $1.20 and beyond, while failure to hold above $1.00 risks a retracement toward $0.95, where both moving averages and the middle Bollinger Band provide support.

HBAR Tests Critical Level of Support at $0.23 After Failed Bounce

by admin August 22, 2025

Hedera’s native token HBAR is testing a key level of support at $0.23 after selling off by more than 3% on Friday.

Trading volume spiked beyond 80 million during crucial intraday windows on August 21.

Despite the sell-off, HBAR has a number of bullish catalysts; SWIFT revealed plans to launch live blockchain payment trials featuring HBAR across its $150 trillion annual payments network starting in November 2025.

At the same time, speculation over a potential exchange-traded fund gathered steam after Grayscale filed Delaware trust documents linked to HBAR. These developments spotlight hashgraph technology’s ability to process over 10,000 transactions per second, bolstering investor confidence in its role in transforming traditional finance infrastructure.

With global payments integration on the horizon, HBAR continues to attract institutional interest as both a technical and fundamental play.

Technical analysis
  • $0.01 trading range creates 2.40% volatility between $0.24 resistance and $0.23 support levels.
  • Volume explosions past 80 million mark key reversal points at midday trading sessions.
  • Support holds firm, for now, at $0.23 while resistance builds near $0.24 price targets.

WIRED Tests Dozens of Air Purifiers a Year. Here’s What We Look For (2025)

WIRED Tests Dozens of Air Purifiers a Year. Here’s What We Look For (2025)

by admin August 18, 2025

If I put a box on its side and cannot grasp the product to lift it from its box, then that’s the first strike. WIRED considers accessibility, and this means handles and wheels on heavier air purifiers. When I review a unit, I think about those with less upper body strength moving the appliances, and whether they’d be able to maneuver it around their home. I move air purifiers all around my apartment; I shouldn’t have to bend at the knees to adjust a purifier’s location.

Photograph: Lisa Wood Shapiro

I was able to move the 50-pound ProX using its hidden handles and built-in lockable wheels.

After an air purifier is unboxed, it’s time to pair it with its app. Not all the air purifiers WIRED tests have an app, but if one does, the pairing process should not be complicated, nor should it require a lot of time. The best user experience is when an air purifier has a QR code that opens the app and adds the device. An app with a simple dashboard, graph that corresponds to the AQI color codes, and a smart remote is usually all that’s needed, though it’s a bonus if the app gives the filter life expectancy.

I prefer a simple power bar design that shows the percentage of filter life used. And while air purifier models give recommendations for when to replace the filter, like every six months, or when the replace filter indicator light glows on the appliance, nothing beats the heads-up of knowing exactly how much filter life has been used.

Internal Air Sensors, Lights, and Scores

While some air purifiers had internal air sensors when I first started testing in 2018, the majority of current purifiers we test now have them. If the purifier has internal sensors, there is usually an indicator light. Next question: Does the air purifier have an easy-to-see or read indicator light or air quality index (AQI) score? If it’s a smart air purifier, then the sensor’s readings feed into the device’s app. And I prefer an indicator light that follows the EPA’s color codes for the air quality index. That means green for good air, yellow for moderate, orange for unhealthy for sensitive groups, red for unhealthy, purple for very unhealthy, and maroon for hazardous. There are some companies, like Coway, that have their own take on the color codes, which can be confusing.

Photograph: Lisa Wood Shapiro

While Coway’s air purifiers are consistently WIRED’s top-rated picks, if I could change one thing about them, it would be their custom color scale, where blue means good and green means moderate. More and more air purifiers are also displaying their internal sensors’ air quality numbers. Most times, air purifiers will show a reading of PM 2.5. If the internal sensor senses an uptick in PM 2.5, the auto mode will trigger a higher fan speed, the indicator light might show orange and red along with the PM 2.5 number like 100. I should be able to see that light across the room, and the numbers should be easy to read.

Then there are some models, like those from Shark, that use their own scoring system. A score of 100 represents good air on the display of Shark’s NeverChange, for example, but 100 PM 2.5 would be considered unhealthy.

Photograph: Lisa Wood Shapiro

Shark

NeverChange Air Purifier

Noise and Size Matter

I think the labeling on air purifiers is confusing on purpose. Often the square footage listed on a product is for one air exchange per hour at the purifier’s highest setting. An air exchange is how many times an air purifier can clean the air of a room in an hour. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends five air exchanges an hour. If you have a 200-square-foot room, your air purifier needs to be able to pull the air of the room into the filter using the fan. That air runs through the filter, PM 2.5 and VOCs are captured by the filter, and the clean air is released back into the air at least five times in an hour. Often, WIRED won’t recommend air purifiers that can only clean unusually small spaces. And while those cute tabletop or miniature air purifiers seem like an easy solution, they are usually too tiny to effectively clean the air in an average-size room.

WIRED also uses a decibel meter to check the manufacturer’s decibel claims. Most of the time, the decibels are close to those listed on the purifier’s user manual. Sometimes they are louder. What’s too loud? The hum of a refrigerator is somewhere between 40 and 50 decibels; a conversation is around 60 decibels. Ideally, an air purifier should be able to clean the air in your room five times an hour without sounding like a conversation. And if an air purifier is louder—a lot louder—than the manufacturer claims, we’ll include that in our review or won’t recommend it.

If an air purifier is too loud at its highest fan setting, users are likely to turn down that fan speed to a quieter and less effective setting, rendering the air purifier into nothing more than a wellness prop. Another issue WIRED takes into account is when the air intake overpowers the external vents, causing unsightly clumps of pet hair to accumulate on the outside of the air purifier.

UK’s Royal Navy tests 40-foot submarine drone which can be operated from ‘the other side of the world’

by admin August 17, 2025

The UK’s Royal Navy has shared an update on its progress in the development and testing of a large unmanned submarine. The new submarine drone is actually ‘extra large’ at 12m (~40ft) and is thus classed as an Extra Large Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle (XLUUV). One of the headlining abilities of this unmanned vessel, aptly dubbed Excalibur, is the ability to control it while it is “submerged on the other side of the world.”

We got some more Excalibur specs ahead of the latest round of testing, when this XLUUV was first unwrapped, back in May. In addition to its length, noted above, we know this sub is 2m (~6.5ft) wide, and displaces 19 tonnes of seawater. The project caps the three-year-long Project Cetus, and becomes the largest uncrewed underwater vessel available to the Royal Navy.

Australia to the UK

In the recent sea trials the UK and Australia, as part of AUKUS Pillar II, tested the capabilities of Excalibur. The vessel, built by Plymouth (UK) based MSubs, was successfully operated in UK waters from a remote operating center in Australia.

You may like

Thus, it is reasonable to claim the unmanned Excalibur has a long reach. According to the Royal Navy blog, the Australian controllers were “more than 10,000 miles” away.

Joining the UK and Australia, the U.S. (as part of AUKUS) has been taking part in Exercise Talisman Sabre and the trials of this XLUUV. A growing number of non AUKUS nations, such as France, Japan, and South Korea, either participated or observed in this large military exercise, in the waters near Papua New Guinea this July.

How deadly is Excalibur?

So, what is an Excalibur XLUUV capable of? The Royal Navy sources don’t seem to be very specific about what this large drone can do. However, we saw a report around the time of its unveiling which shone a little more light on the vessel’s potential capabilities.

In brief, Navy Lookout describes the Excalibur as a technology demonstrator. Its designers are trialing “long-endurance surveillance, seabed warfare, and deployment of sensors or payloads in denied or contested environment,” says the navy news and analysis site.
