Tekken 8 player accidentally takes out a PS5 in tournament-winning pop off

by admin June 23, 2025

Tekken player Shin Paulo won Iron Grid 34, a monthly local in New Jersey that attracts the best players from the state. He got a little too excited, though, and he wound up falling right into the table holding up the PS5 he was playing on.

While big tournaments like Combo Breaker, CEO, and Evo attract thousands of attendees, the real heart of the FGC is often the small local scenes where players sharpen their skills and get ready to show up at big events.

Iron Grid is one such event. Though it’s a smaller tournament, it’s also stacked. People who have been playing against each other for years get a chance once a month to show what they’re made of.

Shin Paulo wound up winning the tournament… and then had to fork over some of his winnings to fix the PS5 he accidentally knocked over.

Tekken 8 tournament pop off goes wrong

Shin Paulo took a dominant Grand Finals match over his opponent, ending it with a 3-0 round advantage in a 3-1 set. He didn’t just win the final match, he dominated.

Unfortunately, he used everything he had to win the final. Out of breath after the victory, he tried to walk forward but tripped, taking out the entire table that had the PS5 on it.

Fortunately for everyone involved, the actual console was fine. The fall didn’t damage the system, only the side plates meant to protect it.

Shin Paulo paid for a replacement side panel no questions asked, feeling bad for taking out the console but still very happy he won.

“I honestly felt i was stagnating in Tekken 8. And I wanted to improve but I couldn’t see it. This is a stepping stone,” he said after the win, apologizing for the “PS5 casualty”.

Iron Grid 35 will be happening on July 26. Hopefully every console will make it out ok this time. Meanwhile, it may be a good idea to see if you’ve got locals in your area. It can be a great way to ease your way into going to a big tournament like Evo if you’ve never competed in-person.

Elite Tekken player “Joe Budden” kicked out of tournament seconds after beating a pro

by admin June 15, 2025

The Tekken 8 pools at CEO 2025 had one of the most bizarre and chaotic matches in fighting game history, a set where one player who named himself “Joe Budden” beat Tekken pro Bilal with a 2-0 win only to get disqualified from the tournament literal seconds after the win.

Fighting game tournaments can have some pretty bizarre moments with thousands of people packed in one convention center. People will often dress as their favorite characters to compete, build an insane custom controller, get coached by their dog, or rip their shirts off on stage.

However, “Joe Budden” had a brief match against Tekken pro Bilal that’s one for the history books. Joe’s known as a ranked grinder for Tekken 8 who typically plays online and uses a very aggressive playstyle with Claudio that’s often rage-inducing for his opponent.

Joe proved that this strategy can work against the very best, beating a top-tier player who traveled to CEO all the way from Pakistan without losing a game… only to get disqualified seconds later after he rushed backstage and threw a package of toilet paper at the commentators.

To be clear, this Joe Budden has absolutely no connection to popular rapper/songwriter Joe Budden. That’s just his username in-game.

He’s one of many North American players who doesn’t travel often but is an absolute menace online. These kinds of players can often get surprising results, even against pro players who compete full-time.

This was the case when he fought Bilal on-stage, with him taunting the pro player by Ki Charging (Tekken’s version of taunting) after every round he won.

He took the momentum from that first win straight into the second game, taking a 2-0 win over Bilal even if the individual rounds were very close.

He celebrated by putting some toilet paper in front of the camera and putting his finger in front of the words “Ultra Soft”, on the packaging. But what isn’t shown in the video is him rushing backstage and tossing the pack of toilet paper to the commentators.

“MF DOOM came backstage and tried to throw the ULTRA SOFT at me and spooky lmao,” said commentator MarkMan. Both him and Spooky were good sports about it, turning the ordeal into part of the broadcast and making jokes about it.

However, despite them taking it on the chin, tournament officials were forced to DQ him as is reflected in his tournament results. He would have been set to fight in the Winner’s bracket for a chance at top 24, but both his matches show up as DQs.

“He was DQ’d because he went to the backstage area (which is a big no no unless you’re working there), was being held back by one of the TOs and still pushed forward against warnings to do what he did,” Markman said of the toilet paper incident.

“We (commentary) have no say in what happens because we were still doing commentary. The event leads/organizers decided to take action based on what happened.”

Joe’s been traveling a lot this year, with him even going to EVO Japan to try and compete. He’s clearly a serious competitor, and he could have a shot at beating some of the best Tekken pros. As long as he keeps the toilet paper at home.

Tekken 8 players livid after Fahkumram gameplay, Armor King reveal

by admin May 28, 2025

Tekken 8 is not sitting well with its community, and the latest gameplay trailer for Fahkumram didn’t do them any favors.

Bandai Namco released the trailer on May 26, showing off the character’s move set, motivations for fighting, and subtle changes to the fighter’s design. The returning character will arrive as paid DLC on July 8 in early access and July 11 in general access, a part of Tekken 8’s Version 2.03 update.

And if that wasn’t enough, Bandai Namco included a teaser for Armor King — another returning character — toward the end of the trailer. A specific release date wasn’t provided for the fan-favorite fighter, but is currently planned for a fall release.

Neither reveal completely won over an already agitated Tekken community. Armor King appeared to garner mixed views from players, with some excited about getting King’s rival back in the fray, but others weren’t impressed with his inclusion.

“Honestly, I had low hope that he would come back. But I’m so glad he’s coming back now,” a player commented on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“THE GREATAST MOTHERFUCKIN CHARACTER IN TEKKEN HISTORY IS BACK!” one passionate fan typed, misspelling “greatest” out of sheer excitement.

“LMAO, you know what’s funny,” someone else quipped. “They had to reveal this dude cuz they’re trying so hard to return the player base after [messing] up the start of this season & revealing Fahkumram a dlc character from the previous title that nobody liked.”

And speaking of Fahkumram, the community’s ill feelings toward him did not waver — gameplay or not, they’re still unimpressed. Players threw out a slew of comments calling the reveal “the most boring DLC trailer” and insisting they would “never like him.”

Other commentary called out Bandai Namco for choosing to recycle Tekken 7 DLC and repurposing those characters for Tekken 8.

“Man said we are paying for the same characters from T7 DLC all over again,” said one fan.

“Why almost all of the DLC is DLC from Tekken 7?” questioned another account.

“Real talk…No,” one player posted. “Could have added these people into the regular roster and bought back some we have not seen in a while like Bruce, Christie or made new characters for Tekken 8 DLC. used to have imagination in the industry.”

Along with the mixed reviews of Tekken 8’s DLC, the game’s gameplay and mechanics have been a touchy subject, with the community irked by the devs making input changes to legacy characters. Gameplay changes were also made to a huge part of the character roster, adding forced 50/50 options with no defensive answers to respond.

Tekken 8’s Version 2.02 and 2.03 are arriving in June and July so, these issues may be addressed. But as of right now, things are not looking too great for the Tekken 8 community.
