The Internet Reacts To Taylor Swift’s New Album

by admin October 3, 2025

Every time Taylor Swift, the country star turned pop royalty, releases a new album, it’s a cultural event, whether you’re a Swiftie or not. This is because the algorithm will no doubt feed you reactions and commentary just because you are, at most, one degree removed from the Band Hero star’s fandom at all times. The Life of a Showgirl is Swift’s 12th album, and turns the dial back into radio/TikTok-ready pop after The Tortured Poets Department went for a more melancholic, folky sound. But is it any good? Well, Swifties are sorting through their feelings.

Like most of Swift’s work, The Life of a Showgirl is pretty transparent in its references to her personal life. As that personal life has become so well-known in and out of her music, it’s usually pretty obvious who a song is about. So there’s some lore to unpack with a lot of these songs, but the ones that are getting the most attention right now are the ones that seem to reference her fiancé Travis Kelce’s hog and seem to escalate an apparent feud between her and pop star Charli XCX that, at least publicly, appears largely one-sided at the moment.

Let’s start with the song that is all about how well-endowed the Kansas City football player is. “Wood” starts out with a funky riff and a catchy beat, and you can already hear the Sabrina Carpenter influence in the composition. Then you hear the lyrics and you can tell that Swift is trying to emulate the Short n’ Sweet singer’s trademark graphic, sexual punchlines. Here, let’s look at the lyrics of the second verse.

Forgive me, it sounds cocky

He ah-matized me and openеd my eyes

Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see

His lovе was the key that opened my thighs

Girls, I don’t need to catch the bouquet, mm

To know a hard rock is on the way

And baby, I’ll admit I’ve been a little superstitious

The curse on me was broken by your magic wand

Seems to be that you and me, we make our own luck

New Heights of manhood

If the clear reference to Kelce’s New Heights podcast wasn’t enough to make it clear that this is about her man’s schlong, the reference to a “hard rock” like the one on her finger would make it pretty clear. There’s an episode of How I Met Your Mother in which Marshall (Jason Segal) realizes he can’t tell any sexy stories from his dating life to his friends without everyone knowing they’re about his long-time partner Lily (Alyson Hannigan) because she’s the only one he’s really been with. Part of what makes love songs such a popular genre of music is that there’s a universality to them that people can project onto their own relationships. Who among us wouldn’t love to sing about a man’s dick lifting a curse and solving all our problems? But Swift’s very public personal life and clear references to her husband-to-be mean that I can’t hear this song without knowing whose dick it’s about.

That being said, the song is pretty catchy. What Swift may lack in Carpenter’s clever jokes, she makes up for in a fun song about love and lust. And hey, Kelce seems cool with it?

One song I have a less charitable read on, however, is “Actually Romantic,” which takes the other side of “everyone knowing your business” and seems to be essentially a diss track against Charli XCX. For those who don’t know, Charli has a song called “Sympathy Is a Knife” on the album Brat that addresses her insecurities in the pop girl space, and seemingly references Swift specifically triggering those feelings of comparison in her. “Actually Romantic” is being called a diss track aimed at the “360” singer, and at first blush, some think Swift may have straight-up misunderstood the intent behind “Sympathy Is a Knife,” which is actually fairly complimentary to her.

However, “Actually Romantic” does seem to gesture at further drama behind the scenes, even as Swift has been publicly supportive of Charli. Specifically, it references Swift’s past relationship with Matty Healy of the band 1975, which also includes Charli’s husband George Daniel, and things Charli has allegedly said about Swift in private.

I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave

High-fived my ex and then said you’re glad he ghosted me

Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face

Some people might be offended

But it’s actually sweet

All the time you’ve spent on me.

I guess I can buy that maybe there’s more happening than “Sympathy Is a Knife” lets on. It’s giving Reputation era, when Swift was very publicly calling out other public figures like Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, or 1989’s “Bad Blood” which referenced her now-ended feud with pop star Katy Perry. Again, it’s the effect of someone’s personal life being so public that these songs end up weaving a story that’s already playing out on social media and in gossip magazines. Though if this is all spun off from “Sympathy Is a Knife,” then it feels like punching down.

The problem with Life of a Showgirl is that Swift’s status as a billionaire mega-celebrity clashes against the “relatable” persona she exhibits in her music here more than ever before. “Eldest Daughter” laments how mean everyone on the internet can be, when she’s enveloped in a massive cocoon of wealth and status. Like, girl, why are you even reading TikTok comments when you could be doing literally anything else with all that money?

lol https://t.co/a78pUaSvCU pic.twitter.com/quyrERr07R

— grace spelman (@GraceSpelman) October 3, 2025

Another song that really sticks out as an expression of Swift imagining threats to her status is “CANCELLED!” which I saw someone say is destined to become the new anthem of MAGA wine moms, and I can’t stop thinking about it. As the title suggests, the song is all about perceived judgments of her for who she chooses to associate with, with her singing that she likes her friends “cancelled” and cloaked in “scandal.” Broadly, this could be a song about cancel culture and how Swift is unwilling to drop people just because they run afoul of public scrutiny, but given that she has friends who are public Trump supporters, that feels like underselling or minimizing people’s criticism as some kind of petty scandal, rather than a legitimate concern.

Ultimately, all of these reactions are born from the relationship with her fandom that Swift has cultivated over her decades-long career. When your personal life is the source of the characters and stories people listen for references to in each song, every album is like a new season of a television show for which millions of people tune in just to lap up every new lore drop. But is the music any good? In my first listen, I came away thinking that Life of a Showgirl is an obvious low point in Swift’s discography. I don’t think I’m alone in that assessment, but the album has been out for all of 12 hours at this point, and people will sort their feelings out over the next few weeks or months. Tonight, Swift is putting out a movie in theaters called The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, which will include commentary and context for the album from Swift. Maybe that will work in its favor. For now, the music is speaking for itself. For better or worse.

Anyway, did you know that Coheed and Cambria also put out the special edition of their excellent album Father of Make Believe today? It’s got four new songs that are all pretty good, though maybe not quite as good as the best stuff on the main album.

QTCinderella speaks out after argument over Taylor Swift goes viral

by admin September 6, 2025

Twitch streamer QTCinderella is lifting the lid on her viral argument about Taylor Swift that took place on an episode of the ‘Fear&’ podcast with Hasan, Will Neff and AustinShow.

On September 1, 2025, popular Twitch streamer QTCinderella got together with her cohosts, fellow broadcasters Hasan, Will Neff, and AustinShow, for an episode of their collaborative podcast named ‘Fear&.’

During the episode, QT’s cohosts asked for her opinion on Taylor Swift’s engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce. It’s well-known that she is a die-hard Swiftie, with the streamer attending the pop star’s concerts and even dressing up as her for Halloween.

“I really would love to play the caricature that you guys want me to be, where I jump for joy and I cried for her. I did not care,” QT admitted, much to her fellow streamers’ shock.

“Oh my god, you guys act surprised every time, and I’m so consistent about it. It’s crazy. I’ve always said that I’m not invested in her relationships. I do not care who she’s dating. I’ve always said that.”

QTCinderella goes viral for spat with co-hosts over Taylor Swift

The trio then grilled QT about Taylor’s future music now that she’s gotten engaged, noting that many of her most famous tracks were inspired by her past relationships and subsequent breakups.

“Yeah, but so what? No matter what, she’s gonna write a good song. It doesn’t matter who she’s dating,” QT rebutted, going on to point out that Swift has a massive discography full of other songs that aren’t about her love life.

“She does have a lot of songs about [her relationships], but so does every artist,” QT argued. “…I don’t like talking about Taylor Swift with you guys. I don’t enjoy it.”

QT then drew parallels between Taylor Swift fans and sports fans, challenging Will Neff to name his favorite New York Jets player and even who they’d dated, which he was able to answer on the spot.

Eventually, QT began mocking how she feels her co-hosts treat her whenever anything Taylor Swift-related comes up in conversation, resulting in an explosive retort that has taken over social media.

“It’s not exciting, like, ‘Oh my god, what flowers is she gonna have?’ You’re like, ‘Oh my god QT, did you sh*t yourself? Did you sh*t in your little pretty pants, you stupid little b*tch that loves Taylor Swift? Did you drink your pumpkin spice latte and kick your stupid little UGG boots in the air you dumb little f*cking c**t,’ is that what you say to me?”

(Topic begins at 36:00)

The moment went viral in the following days after the podcast was published, sparking a heated debate online regarding the treatment of Taylor Swift fans by male critics. One post containing a clip of the interaction garnered 18 million views in just five days.

“It’s really not even about Taylor Swift. You can’t just belittle someone if they like an artist, etc. Glad she crashed out like that,” one user wrote on X.

“Because men are so insufferable about women’s interests, y’all love to mock us to our faces and then get surprised when we react,” another argued.

“She’s so valid for that. They always make fun of her interests, but no one bats an eye when Will crashes out over the Jets,” another pointed out.

QT finally addressed the matter in a tweet on September 5, where she stood by her remarks and seemed surprised their spat had gone so viral.

“Did not expect this to get 17 million views,” she began. “I am but a girl that loves Taylor Swift and yelling at my friends for putting myself and her in a box. Check out our podcast and follow me if you wanna trade friendship bracelets.”

She replied to her post with a clip from a BBC interview with Taylor Swift, where the singer called out people who shame others for their interests.

“The worst kind of person is someone who makes someone feel bad, dumb, or stupid for being excited about something,” Swift said. “Worst type of person. I don’t think you should ever have to apologize for your excitement.”

Fans are rallying behind QT in support, while others seem to find the moment’s viral nature quite humorous, given her long-standing friendship with Hasan, Will, and Austin.

“You were right for standing on business!” one said.

“Please yell at them more, they need it. They didn’t even apologize, smh,” another wrote.

“QT clip-farmed so successfully,” yet another joked.

Thus far, neither Hasan, Will, nor Austin has made a public statement regarding the viral clip — but QT seems to have taken the victory this time, during which she’s also garnered praise for her recreation of the broomstick cake from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty.

Meta Stock Drops On News It Used Taylor Swift As Chatbot Without Permission

by admin September 1, 2025

Meta has ignited a firestorm after chatbots created by the company and its users impersonated Taylor Swift and other celebrities across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp without their permission.

Shares of the company have already dropped more than 12% in after hours trading as news of the debacle spread.

Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, and Selena Gomez were also reportedly impersonated.

Many of these AI personas engaged in flirtatious or sexual conversations, prompting serious concern, Reuters reports.

While many of the celebrity bots were user-generated, Reuters uncovered that a Meta employee had personally crafted at least three.

Those include two featuring Taylor Swift. Before being removed, these bots amassed more than 10 million user interactions, Reuters found.

Unauthorized likeness, furious fanbase

Under the guise of “parodies,” the bots violated Meta’s policies, particularly its ban on impersonation and sexually suggestive imagery. Some adult-oriented bots even produced photorealistic pictures of celebrities in lingerie or a bathtub, and a chatbot representing a 16-year-old actor generated an inappropriate shirtless image.

Meta’s spokesman Andy Stone told Reuters that the company attributes the breach to enforcement failures and assured that the company plans to tighten its guidelines.

“Like others, we permit the generation of images containing public figures, but our policies are intended to prohibit nude, intimate or sexually suggestive imagery,” he said.

Legal risks and industry alarm

The unauthorized use of celebrity likenesses raises legal concerns, especially under state right-of-publicity laws. Stanford law professor Mark Lemley noted the bots likely crossed the line into impermissible territory, as they weren’t transformative enough to merit legal protection.

The issue is part of a broader ethical dilemma around AI-generated content. SAG-AFTRA voiced concern about the real-world safety implications, especially when users form emotional attachments to seemingly real digital personas.

Meta acts, but fallout continues

In response to the uproar, Meta removed a batch of these bots shortly before Reuters made its findings public.

Simultaneously, the company announced new safeguards aimed at protecting teenagers from inappropriate chatbot interactions. The company said that includes training its systems to avoid romance, self-harm, or suicide themes with minors, and temporarily limiting teens’ access to certain AI characters.

U.S. lawmakers followed suit. Senator Josh Hawley has launched an investigation, demanding internal documents and risk assessments regarding AI policies that allowed romantic conversations with children.

Tragedy in real-world consequences

One of the most chilling outcomes involved a 76-year-old man with cognitive decline who died after trying to meet “Big sis Billie,” a Meta AI chatbot modeled after Kendall Jenner.

Believing she was real, the man traveled to New York, fell fatally near a train station, and later died of his injuries. Internal guidelines that once permitted such bots to simulate romance—even with minors—heightened scrutiny over Meta’s approach.

Taylor Swift Is Engaged. Her Post Smashed an Instagram Record

by admin August 27, 2025

Nobody is shaking this off: Pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce announced their engagement on Instagram on Tuesday, and the likes exploded like pyrotechnics at a concert. The post broke Instagram’s record for reposts, even though, to be fair, reposting just started on Instagram in August. Still, the post hit 1 million reposts in less than 6 hours and earned 14 million likes in just the first hour. By Tuesday evening, it had topped 21.2 million likes.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift and Kelce wrote on an Instagram post showing multiple photos of the proposal. In the first photo, Kelce is kneeling in front of Swift in a breathtaking floral garden. The second photo shows them standing and holding one another. The next is her hand with an enormous diamond engagement ring, followed by two more of the couple embracing.

The two apparently got engaged in a breathtaking garden setting.

Instagram

The post also features a dynamite emoji and the audio of Swift’s 2024 song So High School. The snippet cuts off with the lyrics, “Are you gonna marry, kiss, or kill me?” (Let’s hope it’s the first or second option.)

Instagram post is already climbing into the millions

As you might expect, the Instagram post delivering the engagement news shot into the stratosphere as soon as it was posted on Tuesday. A representative for Instagram confirmed to CNET that Swift and Kelce’s engagement announcement earned over 14 million likes and 452,000 reposts in just over an hour, reaching 21.2 million by 5 p.m. PT Tuesday.

That’s a huge audience, but it will be interesting to see how high up Swift and Kelce’s engagement news post lands on Instagram’s all-time most popular list.

Right now, the most popular post ever on Instagram is from 2022, when soccer star Lionel Messi posted an image of himself hoisting the just-won World Cup. That post has more than 74 million likes. (Swifties, keep it going if you want to send that post to the top.)

The Instagram representative didn’t immediately comment on whether Swift and Kelce’s post is climbing at the same pace as Messi’s. Messi also has the third-most popular post, again showing him and the World Cup trophy, this time snuggled up in bed together.

But it’s not just soccer photos that top the Instagram most-viewed-ever list. The second most-liked post of all time is a photo of a plain, ordinary egg, posted to the social network back in 2019 as part of someone’s experiment to see if such a mundane image could go hugely viral. I interviewed the person behind Eugene the Egg back in 2019 and am shocked to see it’s still in the No. 2 spot six years later, with more than 60 million likes.

As of Tuesday evening, the post’s 21.2 million likes put it just outside the top 20 list of most-liked, non-soccer posts, just behind post No. 20, singer Billie Eilish’s 2021 reveal of her then-new blond hair. Eilish’s post is at 21.9 million likes and could easily fall off the list and be replaced by Swift and Kelce.

Details on the ring and outfits

According to The New York Post, Swift is wearing a blue silk-blend Polo Ralph Lauren dress in the photo, and Kelce is wearing a navy cable-knit Polo Ralph Lauren sweater. The Post also reports that Swift’s new engagement ring is “an old mine brilliant-cut diamond in a gold bezel setting, which was designed by Kelce himself with the help of Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.”

Taylor Swift’s style of engagement ring was the most popular cut during the Georgian and Victorian eras.

Instagram

Old mine refers to a historic diamond cut popular from the early 18th century to the late 19th century. Such diamonds are square with rounded corners and have 58 facets, making them anything but a “paper ring.”

The Post delved into everything else Swift had on, including her cognac-colored Louis Vuitton sandals, $18,000 diamond-studded Cartier Santos Demoiselle watch and her “TNT” friendship bracelet by Wove, which was a Christmas gift from her new fiancé.

To no one’s shock, the $400 dress Swift is wearing is selling out fast. Just imagine the excitement when the wedding details start trickling out, and Swift begins to “pick out a white dress,” as Juliet does in Swift’s hit song Love Story.

Memeing the marriage proposal

Until we have more information about the upcoming wedding, fans will have to content themselves by creating and sharing memes because, well, it’s 2025, and that’s part of how we communicate these days.

The Instagram account belonging to the Prince and Princess of Wales even liked the post. (No surprise, really, they hung out when Swift played London.)

Instagram

Even coffee giant Starbucks got into the act, making a joke about pumpkin spice lattes and posting, “Are we supposed to keep posting about PSL like nothing happened?” The company also noted in the post’s comments that “the long list of Starbucks lovers just got a +1.” (“Starbucks lovers” is a sly reference to a lyric in Swift’s 2014 song Blank Space. Swift actually sings, “got a long list of ex-lovers,” but almost anyone with working ears mishears it as something like, “all the lonely Starbucks lovers.”

Starbucks’ announcement of the pumpkin spice latte’s return was buried by Swift’s news.

One meme post on X showed Paul Revere’s famed ride, captioned “me telling everyone I know that Taylor Swift got engaged.”

One Bluesky user wrote, “Very interesting that Taylor Swift got engaged mere months after I did. Get your own thing.”

Another joked, “Can’t believe that on July 8th, 2023, @likethe309, Travis Kelce and I all walked into Arrowhead Stadium to attend the Eras Tour and now one of us is marrying Taylor Swift.”

Bluesky/Screenshot by CNET

Matt Ufford warned the billionaire bride-to-be and her NFL star husband to count their pennies, writing, “a word of warning to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce: weddings can get EXPENSIVE, fast, be sure to leave enough in the account for your monthly expenses.”

Bluesky/Screenshot by CNET

There were football jokes, of course.

The Detroit Free Press sought a local connection, using the headline, “Tight end for Detroit Lions’ Week 6 opponent gets engaged to Taylor Swift.”

One person questioned the caption about an English teacher marrying a gym teacher, asking, “Why does Taylor Swift think she’s an English teacher and not a music teacher?”

We’re pretty sure this person really does know who Swift is, but their post was funny anyway. It reads, “Okay, I’ll bite: who’s Taylor Swift? What’s so great about him?”

The two 35-year-old celebrities have been dating for two years. It’s a love story, and Taylor just said yes.

The Internet Reacts To Taylor Swift And Travis Kelce’s Engagement

by admin August 27, 2025

After two years of dating, the music industry’s greatest game master, Taylor Swift, is engaged to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Swift announced their engagement on her Instagram account with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” While the comments are turned off (as they are with every post on her profile), as you can imagine, the internet is losing its mind. “Why are you writing about Taylor Swift on a video game website?” She was in Band Hero, leave me alone.

Love them, hate them, or feel nothing for them, Swift and Kelce are America’s sweethearts. The general public is already greatly invested in Swift’s love life, since her songs and the mythos around her have etched the 35-year-old pop star’s romantic ups and downs into modern pop culture folklore, and seeing her in a relationship that seemingly lacks the kinds of dramatic complications you write albums about has prompted fans to root for this relationship to be the one that works out. A lot of people have been tuned into the lore for years, and for those who have treated Swift’s love life as a story they’ve been watching unfold, it’s basically like watching a slow-burn romance finally reach its next stage.

— Joe Santagato (@JoeSantagato) August 26, 2025

Swift and Kelce have been together for two years, but with the exception of songs like “So High School” on her 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department, the romance hasn’t been the subject of her music in the same way her other relationships have been. This may change in October when she releases her next record, The Life of a Showgirl, which is her first album to be recorded entirely during the two’s relationship. Swift announced the album on Kelce’s podcast New Heights, and described it as “exuberant and electric and vibrant,” a stark contrast from the moodier and more introspective Tortured Poets Department. The album will launch on October 3.

Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce announce engagement

Tory Barron is a Bristol-based writer and editor for ESPN.com. After retiring from playing lacrosse at UConn, the DC native decided to try her hand at writing about people playing sports.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are “End Game.”

The pop superstar and the three-time Super Bowl champion took to social media to reveal they are engaged to be married.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the duo captioned a series of photos in a joint Instagram post, which garnered 1.2 million likes in its first 10 minutes.

The couple’s engagement comes on the heels of a romance that captivated football and pop culture fans alike since Week 3 of the 2023 NFL season.

In Dec. 2023, Swift reflected on the origin of her oft-dissected relationship with Kelce in an article for Time Magazine Person of the Year.
