89-year-old Skyrim Grandma switches to another RPG after 9 years

by admin June 2, 2025

Viral YouTuber and grandmother Shirley Curry, better known as ‘Skyrim Grandma’ is finally playing another Bethesda RPG after nine years.

Curry has grown her channel to an impressive 1.3M subscribers in her years on the platform following her adventures playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

While Curry has tried a few other games here and there, such as ‘Call of Cthulhu,’ she has continued to go back to Skyrim even after announcing her gaming retirement in 2024.

With The Elder Scrolls VI still nowhere in sight, Skyrim Grandma has ventured to a different game and she’s already found some issues with it.

Skyrim Grandma has big issues with Oblivion Remastered

On May 31, Skyrim Grandma uploaded her first video playing Oblivion Remastered and voiced some criticisms with the RPG.

“What I’m having a fit with is that I don’t know how to show my character and turn the camera in front of me and show me to you,” she told viewers. “I’ve punched every key and nothing happens that way.”

“Ugly movement, just absolutely ugly movement,” she slammed the game’s controls, adding that she wished studios would keep the same button layout they had in previous releases.

Despite some concerns, Shirley did take time to praise the game’s graphics and was eager to explore the open world.

Jumping into a different game like Oblivion is certainly a big shift for the 89-year-old, but her viewers have been jumping into the comments to help her by suggesting a few setting changes and gameplay tips.

Plus, some fans have just been anxiously waiting for her to try out Oblivion. “I have been wating for this more than the release of the remaster itself!” one viewer commented.

Hopefully, Shirley can adapt to the changes in controls and the game can tide her over until Elder Scrolls 6 – something she had previously urged Bethesda to release “before she dies.”

Black Panther game reportedly canned as EA closes Cliffhanger Games, resulting in an unspecified amount of layoffs and role switches

by admin May 29, 2025

EA’s decided to go back to the cutting well. Its execs have decided to cancel a Black Panther game that was in the works at Cliffhanger Games, and close the studio for good measure. An unspecified number of people will lose their jons or have to transition to other roles within EA as a result.

This is according to a report from IGN, which cites an email from EA Entertainment president Laura Miele about these latest cuts as having said that they’re part of the publisher’s ongoing efforts to “sharpen our focus” and go hard on “the most significant growth opportunities”. Yep, it’s 2025, and a liscenced Marvel tie-in revolving around a popular movie franchise apparently isn’t a good opportunity to make money.

EA hasn’t confirmed the number of staff affected by Cliffhanger’s closure and some layoffs to its mobile and central teams it’s enacting at the same time, with IGN understanding that less people will be hit than the roughly 300 impacted by the layoffs the publisher enacted just last month.

That last round, in case you’ve lost track of EA’s wanton self-destruction by this point, involved staff at respawn and came with the news that an in-development Titanfall game had been consigned to the scrapheap.

“These decisions are hard,” Miele wrote in the email, “They affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with. We’re doing everything we can to support them — including finding opportunities within EA, where we’ve had success helping people land in new roles.”

We’d not seen anything of this Black Panther game from Cliffhanger following its announcement back in 2023. That announcement revealed that it’d be a third-person, single-player thing featuring “an expansive and reactive world that empowers players to experience what it is like to take on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector, the Black Panther”. In 2024, a job listing hinted that world could be an open one.

So, it’s impossible to say if it’d have been a good, bad, or just decent game had it gone the distance. But, like, what are we doing here if even games like this don’t get the chance to make it to an end result? Miele said that EA plans to continue to put cash into Motive’s Iron Man game and the next Star Wars: Jedi game from Respawn.

Aside from that though, the publisher’s continued move away from liscenced titles looks to be seeing it pretty much circle the wagons around Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, Apex Legends, and the Mass Effect game what’s left of BioWare is now working on.

After all, why bother giving yourself lots of chances to make money, when you can put all of your eggs into an increasingly dwindling basket and desperately pray that nothing ever goes wrong with any of them?

Cherry debuts new mechanical, magnetic, and inductive switches with a whole new naming scheme to match

by admin May 21, 2025

When we talk about mechanical keyboard switches, everything refers back to Cherry. Even if you’re using a different brand’s switches, often you’ll end up explaining them in terms of Cherry’s naming scheme; “These feel like low profile reds” or similar is often pretty common jargon when describing how a board might feel. This is all about to receive a refresh as Cherry debuts its new switches, complete with some new naming schemes at this year’s Computex.

Now when you’re looking at Cherry’s keyboards there’s three distinct sets you want to keep your eyes out for. First up, you have the MK Series which feature magnetic switches for that slick feel and price action. These are touted as being super precise for gamers, giving us a different option over the standard mechanical switch that has a frictionless feel.

Then there’s the new IK series, for those who prefer the contactless feel of inductive switches with electromagnetic sensors. Cherry has booked these as the most energy efficient switch of its kind using 50% less power than regular magnetic switches and 5% less than hall effect. Thanks to that contactless nature, these shouldn’t ever really wear out and that power consumption makes them a great partner for a wireless keyboard travel setup.

Last but never least, there’s the familiar MX. These are the mechanical switches Cherry is known for that feature in recent boards like the MX 8.2 TKL Xaga, which is quite the fancy board, indeed. The MX range is still getting a shake up though, with Cherry introducing a few new switches under the banner – The MX Honey, Blossom, and Falcon.

Honeys are set to be the quiet kid in the new MX lineup featuring Cherry’s first tactile MX switch that’s also silent. Despite the silent nature these are said to still give a great tactile feel so this is a great choice for office goers, streamers, or just people who like quiet keyboards that still feel satisfying to use. It’s me, I’m people.

The MX Blossom is set to be the ultra light feel switch. There’s some nice evocative imagery there of cherry blossom petals floating down, so I’m guessing that’s the feel Cherry is going for here. These are going to be ultra light, easy to press, and quick to respond, so are probably aiming to be the preference for typists, and gamers who like a softer touch.

Meanwhile the Falcon is the community-inspired switch, a bit like that beautiful northern lights set. This one is for gamers and keyboard users of all stripes who really want to know when that key has been pressed. I’m guessing rather like how a fish knows it’s done for when a peregrine swoops in. These are snappy and crisp, these are bound to be a clacky retro switch. This is the keyboard you bring into the office when you just don’t like your coworkers.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

All these switches are set to come out in June this year. If we don’t get our hot little fingers on these bad bois at Computex, we’ll be sure to let you know how they feel as soon as we do.
