R2 Protocol’s X account suspended after mainnet launch

by admin September 28, 2025

X has suspended the account of R2 Protocol, a decentralized yield platform for real-world assets, just after the platform’s mainnet launch.

Summary

  • R2 Protocol launched its mainnet on Ethereum on September 26, 2025.
  • The project’s X account looks to have been suspended.

The R2 Protocol launched its mainnet on Ethereum, going live on Sept. 26 as the onchain yield platform looked to democratize access to real-world yield. The project unveiled a tokenized U.S. Treasuries and private credit-backed vault and saw immediate complaints from users regarding deposits of USDC to access rewards on the mainnet.

A look at the project’s X account @r2yield shows it has been suspended. X says it suspends accounts that violate its rules.

What is R2 Protocol?

R2 offers R2USD, a stablecoin that allows holders to access off-chain yield sources across the decentralized finance market. Token holders also get exposure to staking derivatives and a reward system that means one’s stablecoin holdings are not just an idle store of value but a yield-generating asset.

As crypto.news highlighted earlier, the R2 team had seen the protocol’s total value locked rise to a significant amount just after launch. The rewards offer for early users attracted more than 154,000 participants. Likely a mass reporting of the project’s X account led to this suspension.

X revealed a bribery network

R2 Protocol’s mainnet launch and X account suspension comes just days after X, the social media platform owned by billionaire and Tesla chief Elon Musk, disclosed an investigation against a bribery network involving platforms perpetuating crypto scams.

Notably, X said its employees have been approached by a network of individuals seeking to have suspended accounts reinstated.

“X has exposed and is taking strong action against a bribery network targeting our platform. Suspended accounts involved in crypto scams and platform manipulation paid middlemen to attempt to bribe employees to reinstate their suspended accounts,” the social media platform noted.

The suspension of R2’s account may not be related to this. However, it will raise questions as the community looks to what happens next.

Korean Actor Hwang Jung-eum Gets Suspended Term In $3 Million Crypto Case

by admin September 28, 2025

In brief

  • South Korean actor Hwang Jung-eum received a suspended prison sentence for embezzling $3 million from her agency to invest in crypto.
  • The Jeju District Court showed leniency after Hwang repaid the entire embezzled amount and was deemed a first-time offender.
  • The scandal derailed her career, with TV shows editing her out and advertisers dropping her from campaigns.

South Korean actress Hwang Jung-eum walked out of Jeju District Court in tears Thursday after receiving a two-year suspended prison sentence for embezzling $3 million from her own agency to invest in crypto.

The court handed Hwang the suspended sentence, meaning she will serve no jail time unless she commits another crime within four years, for violating Korea’s Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, according to a Korea JoongAng Daily report.

Prosecutors had sought a three-year jail sentence in August, but judges cited her repayment of the full amount and her status as a first-time offender who had made full restitution.

Hwang embezzled about 4.34 billion won ($3.1 million) from her agency in early 2022, as per the indictment cited in the report.

Approximately 4.2 billion won of that sum was invested directly in crypto, while the remainder was used to pay property and local taxes via credit card payments, Decrypt reported earlier.

Kadan Stadelmann, CTO at Komodo, told Decrypt that East Asian and Western regulators now show “similar outcomes when it comes to enforcing the law against crypto embezzlers,” though the West has historically had an edge in “blockchain analytics.”

Asia is “catching up,” he noted, suggesting South Korea could look to U.S. financial controls where the FTC enforces “transparency, disclosure, and accountability” in celebrity crypto promotions, standards that could guide oversight of talent agencies and sports firms.

In Hwang’s case, the company involved was a family-run corporation solely owned by her, with only one actor under management, herself. At her first trial on May 15, Hwang admitted to all charges and requested additional time to repay the full amount.

The court showed leniency after Hwang sold personal assets and repaid the entire embezzled amount in installments.

She had returned about 3 billion won by her first trial, then covered the remainder on May 30 and June 5.

“I was just trying to work hard and live honestly, but I neglected financial and tax matters, which led to this situation,” Hwang said during her final hearing on August 21. “I am remorseful.”

Her legal team said that the misused funds originated from her personal entertainment income and were temporarily held in her name because corporations are restricted from holding crypto directly, according to the report.

“Since the agency’s profits ultimately stem from the defendant’s own work, they can be seen as rightfully belonging to her,” Hwang’s attorney said in court.

Crypto scammers tried to bribe X employees to reinstate suspended accounts

by admin September 20, 2025

Crypto scammers and other malicious actors ran a bribery network that targeted employees of the social media network X, with the goal of having suspended accounts reinstated, X said Friday.

Summary

  • X says its taking legal action against a bribery network of crypto scammers.
  • The individuals have allegedly tried to bribe X employees in order to have suspended accounts reinstated.

X noted that it was taking strong action after exposing “a bribery network” by platform users linked to crypto scams, and has instituted legal proceedings. This came after the social media platform owned by Elon Musk discovered that the scammers paid middlemen in attempts to influence employees to restore suspended accounts.

“X has exposed and is taking strong action against a bribery network targeting our platform. Suspended accounts involved in crypto scams and platform manipulation paid middlemen to attempt to bribe employees to reinstate their suspended accounts,” X posted via its Global Government Affairs account.

Scammers also target TikTok, YouTube

Per the platform, the bribery network consists of individuals who exploit social media sites such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Minecraft and Roblox to scam unsuspecting users. Perpetrators of these scams and manipulation, and who are linked to the bribery scheme, have connections to known criminal organizations like “The Com”, X noted.

“Legal proceedings are underway against participants, and we’re fully supporting law enforcement,” the platform added.

The Com is among several criminal organizations that target both crypto and mainstream companies or entities. The group, also known as “The Community” or “Hacker Com,” is largely an English-speaking outfit that has been linked to various cyberattacks and breaches, including hacks of the U.S. court system.

As well as crypto hacks, bad actors have used social media to promote fake projects.

In June this year, hackers compromised the X account of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz to shill a fraudulent token.

Similar breaches and fake token announcements have befallen X accounts of crypto platform ZKSync, Curve Finance and Jupiter. In April, crypto fraudsters seized control of a UK lawmaker’s X account and used it to promote a fake Solana token. “Breaking Bad” actor Dean Norris also said scammers took over his X account to promote an $8 million memecoin scam dubbed DEAN.

Pierce Clarkson arrested on felony charge, suspended by UCLA

by admin September 8, 2025

UCLA backup quarterback Pierce Clarkson was arrested on an unspecified felony charge Friday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records.

Clarkson has been suspended from the team indefinitely “pending the outcome of the legal process,” UCLA said in a statement.

“This situation will be evaluated by the UCLA Office of Student Conduct and any further action taken will be in accordance with that evaluation and University policy,” the school said.

Clarkson, 21, was arrested at noon Friday by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division. Bail was set at $30,000. His first court date is scheduled for Oct. 3.

Clarkson, the son of prominent quarterback trainer Steve Clarkson, has yet to play a down for the Bruins, who are 0-2 after losing to Utah and UNLV. Nico Iamaleava has started both games.

Clarkson spent two seasons at Louisville, attempting six passes for 18 yards and rushing five times for 9 yards. Following a short-lived transfer to Ole Miss in January, he committed to UCLA in May.

Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan suspended over regional rant

Florida coach Kevin O’Sullivan suspended over regional rant

by admin August 29, 2025

Aug 29, 2025, 02:51 PM ET

Florida has suspended baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan for the first three games of the 2026 regular season following his profanity-laced language directed at site administrators during an NCAA regional in Conway, South Carolina.

“The suspension announced today reinforces Florida Athletics’ commitment to our standards, with Coach O’Sullivan accepting full responsibility for his behavior,” athletic director Scott Stricklin said in a statement Friday. “Sully has vowed to learn from the experience and serve as a better leader moving forward.”

The NCAA Division I Baseball Committee also issued a public reprimand to O’Sullivan for his aggressive behavior.

Editor’s Picks

The committee said O’Sullivan’s actions June 1 violated an NCAA bylaw that says misconduct in a championship event is “any act of dishonesty, unsportsmanlike conduct, unprofessional behavior or breach of law, occurring from the time the championship field is announced through the end of the championship, that discredits the event or intercollegiate athletics.”

O’Sullivan was upset because the start time of his team’s elimination game against East Carolina — an 11-4 loss — was pushed back an hour. East Carolina’s previous game had ended at midnight.

The Florida coach publicly apologized the day after his outburst, but videos of the tirade were circulated widely on social media. Kevin Schnall, coach of host Coastal Carolina, ripped O’Sullivan for the outburst during a news conference later that day.

“This is a national champion coach who thinks he can come in here and try to bully people around,” Schnall said at the time. “Disappointed. Disappointed somebody that a lot of coaches look up to, for him to act that way.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
