James Gunn Explains Why That ‘Superman’ Cameo on ‘Peacemaker’ Wasn’t Who You Hoped

by admin September 27, 2025

If you watched the latest episode of the HBO Max original and DC Studios series Peacemaker, the question on every Superman fan’s mind has been answered by James Gunn. We finally know who shows up to help Rick Flag Sr. and ARGUS course-correct Peacemaker’s whole portal door to Earth X (Nazi America) ordeal, leading into the show’s finale.

However, if you haven’t watched, a spoiler warning is ahead!

© Warner Bros.

When it came down to who to get help from with finding the 11th Street Kids and where they took the portal, ARGUS director Rick Flag Sr. went to the most powerful villain they have in their pocket (jail cell). And that, of course, is Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), who has a big price to use his tech to track down Peacemaker and friends.

In an interview with Variety, director and DC head James Gunn discussed the cameo that many thought would be David Corenswet as Superman and why it’s not (despite a certain Peacemaker x Supes selfie). Gunn even went as far as squashing our hopes to see an Earth X or Earth-1 Man of Steel, telling the trade, “No,” to the possibility: “In fact, David was very upset that Nick got to be on the show, and he didn’t. It just didn’t work.”

So no Nazi Superman, which in a way is a relief because we don’t want to tarnish the feel-good way Corenswet opened his era as the hero.

Gunn continued to explain why he needed Hoult back: “I needed Lex in the show to serve a specific purpose. And actually, what Lex and Rick Flag are up to affects very much what happens in an aspect of Man of Tomorrow. So all of that is connected. But this relationship between Rick Flag and Lex Luthor is a potentially negative thing for Superman and all meta-humans.”

He also discussed that it has all been in alignment with his plans for DC Studios as part of his universe reset pitch from the get-go. “I didn’t know some things about it, but I knew what the overall story of the DCU was. That was something I pitched to [Warner Bros. Discovery CEO] David Zaslav before we even took the job. I’m like, here’s the story. There’s going to be this movie, this show, this movie, this show, and those things all fit in in different ways. Some things came, like Clayface, that we didn’t expect, and other things have been a harder road to travel. But the general outline of that overall story is what we are following through Superman, Peacemaker, Man of Tomorrow, and beyond.”

Peacemaker Season 2 needs to answer a big ‘Earth X’ question about Superman

by admin September 26, 2025

It’s official: the alternate dimension in Peacemaker Season 2 is ‘Earth X’ (or a version of it), and now that’s been revealed, we need to talk about Superman. Spoilers to follow…

Until Episode 6, everything seemed so much better in the other world. Chris’ dad is nice and caring, his brother is still alive, Harcourt is in love with him, and Peacemaker didn’t murder Rick Flag Jr.

However, as many have predicted, its dark secret has been revealed: it’s Earth X, a parallel universe where the Nazis won World War II. That means there’s a swastika on the American flag instead of stars and there aren’t any people of color walking on the streets (it remains terrifyingly unclear where they are, if there are any at all).

So, everyone is a Nazi, and the Top Trio are beloved superheroes. Where does that leave other characters… like Superman?

Will Peacemaker Season 2 include Overman?

DC

Peacemaker has yet to reveal if there are any parallel versions of other DCU characters, like Lex Luthor or Rick Flag. However, now we know that it’s Earth X, the show could include a Superman cameo with a shocking twist.

In the comics, Earth X has its own version of Superman: Overman, also known as Kal-L. His origins are very similar: he comes from Krypton, his parents send him to Earth, but he lands in Sudetenland instead of Kansas, and he ends up becoming the most powerful ‘hero’ at the helm of the Fourth Reich.

“My rocket from Krypton arrived in a field in the occupied Sudetenland in 1938. German rocket scientists retro-engineered the technology Herr Hitler used to win the war, and I… I and my kind inherited a Utopia built on human suffering. Mine is not any world you know,” he says in the comics.

It’s been widely speculated that Corenswet will appear in Season 2, especially after John Cena posted a selfie with him from the set. Gunn has also teased “one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show.”

To be clear, Corenswet’s normal Superman could still appear; if Chris returns to his own world, what better way to make him feel welcome than the world’s mightiest hero patting him on the back?

However, it’s hard to deny how effective (and scary) it’d be to see Corenswet as a Nazi version of the Man of Steel, even if it’s brief.

“It’ll be peak if we see David Corenswet as Overman in the finale,” one viewer wrote. “This is gonna sound crazy but hear me out, I need an Overman appearance in Peacemaker so f**king bad,” another commented.

James Gunn May Have Spoiled Some ‘Superman’ Stars Coming to the ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Finale

by admin September 24, 2025

As Peacemaker‘s second season has been unfolding, its final stretch of episodes has been kept under lock and key to prevent spoilers from spreading online. Only the first five episodes (of eight total) were sent to reviewers, specifically because DC Studios head honcho James Gunn didn’t want to ruin any big moments. That includes not telling his publicist what’s what. Which makes the whole secrecy surrounding Peacemaker season two’s finale all the more ironic, as Gunn wound up spoiling it himself.

According to GamesRadar+, in the director’s commentary of Superman, Gunn revealed that he recycled a set from the film where government authority figures were trying to figure out what to do with the Kryptonian, teasing that some other Superman characters would be making their return in Peacemaker.

“The Saturday after we did [this Superman scene], we shot a scene from Peacemaker [season two] episode eight, because it had a lot of the same cast from Superman,” Gunn said. “It had James [Hiroyuki Liao] as Mori and Frank [Grillo] as Rick Flag, and then a couple of other people. I think this will have already aired when this director’s commentary comes out, but I’m not sure actually—I’ll leave the secrets there.”

Seeing as how Gunn went on record to say that Superman‘s digital release came way uncharacteristically early to make way for Peacemaker, Gunn being the inception point of spilling the beans on a Superman spoiler, however vauge, is almost ironic given he’s had to do damange control from rampant DC Studios rumors about film plots telling fans to chill out and not believe anything unless it comes from him.

While Gunn doesn’t go on to outright reveal whether those other people would be Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor or David Corenswet’s Clark Kent, who are already poised for an uncanny team-up in the sequel Superman film Man of Tomorrow, there’s enough evidence to suggest that at least the latter will make an appearance in Peacemaker.

The above whoopsie daisy on Gunn’s part retroactively made a seemingly innocuous post from Corenswet, made earlier this month, seem less like a passing of the torch from Superman to Peacemaker as DC Studios’ new obsession, and more like a straight-up spoiler in plain sight, all but confirming his appearance. At the time, Corenswet’s post was characterized online as him visiting the Peacemaker set while shooting Superman and taking a quick candid photo with John Cena to drum up hype for the show.

Given Peacemaker‘s track record of wasting no time to reveal Cena’s Christopher Smith is not a huge fan of big blue in its opening scene, retconning the Justice Gang appearing instead of the Justice League in its season one finale, the likelihood the two will square off at some point in Peacemaker‘s safeguarded season two finale feels all but assured.

Another piece of evidence supporting this theory is James Gunn’s own wife and Peacemaker star Jennifer Holland, who revealed to Phase Hero podcast that the final three episodes would have significant implications for the rebooted DC universe moving forward. Gunn shared the same sentiment, saying this season would “directly” tie into Man of Tomorrow in the same interview. Still, Gunn acquiesced to not wanting the big moment to be spoiled.

“It could mean they’re terrible,” Gunn said on the Phase Hero podcast. “That is one option. Or it could mean that there’s a lot of major twists and turns in the last three episodes… I really don’t want what’s in those last three episodes to be spoiled. And so I’m keeping them close to the chest. I won’t even let my publicist see them. That’s the god’s honest truth.”

Whatever the case, Superman fans will have to tune in to Peacemaker and find out if Clark Kent, Lex Luthor, or any other prominent cast members will make an appearance when new episodes of the show air on Thursday night on HBO Max.

Next Superman Movie Gets Release Date As New DCU Ramps Up

by admin September 3, 2025

James Gunn’s Superman was a great comic-book movie unburdened by much of the multi-billion-dollar franchise machine powering it, and a sequel isn’t far away. Because even though this summer’s DC blockbuster didn’t feel like just another marketing beat on a pitch deck, it very much is that, too. Gunn’s announcement on Wednesday that Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters in 2027 shows his rebooted DCU is about to be in full swing.

“Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027,” the director posted on social media today alongside comic book artist Jim Lee’s rendering of Superman and Lex Luthor standing next to each other, the latter appearing in his green and purple Warsuit. This “Lexorian armor” is what the billionaire genius uses to even the playing field with his himbo Kryptonian rival, and suggests at the very least the next movie will give us another showdown between the two. Or maybe they’ll end up working together to face an even deadlier, extinction-level event like, say, a visit from Brainiac?

July 2027 will be just two years after Superman arrived in theaters, bringing the box office success back in record time. But it’s far from the only upcoming DCU movie currently on the calendar. Here’s a brief look at the shows and movies in development that currently have dates attached to them:

  • Lanterns TV Series: Early 2026
  • Supergirl: June 26, 2026
  • Clayface: September 11, 2026
  • Man of Tomorrow: July 9, 2027
  • Dynamic Duo: June 30, 2028

Matt Reeves’ follow-up to The Batman is also in the mix with a slated release date of October 1st, 2027, further powering DC’s presence at the multiplex, though the Robert Pattinson-led films are not, strictly speaking, part of James Gunn’s DCU.

You may be detecting a pattern here: we’re getting at least one Superman-related movie and one Batman-related movie annually for the next two years. There’s also Teen Titans, Wonder Woman, and Deathstroke movies in development, alongside a bunch of other projects. Gunn has previously promised that the scripts will come first in these productions, preventing messy reshoots and other expensive holdups until the stories have been locked down. That at least sounds like it’s in contrast to the recent Marvel process of letting the needs of franchise development run the show.

The proof, of course, will be in this new DCU’s track record once it actually takes shape. For now it’s just one good movie and some cool ideas. We’ll see how the next two years pan out. In the meantime, Peacemaker season 2 just kicked off on HBO streaming for everyone looking for clues about where Gunn’s interconnected superhero universe will go next.

Injustice 3 leaked by Superman and Green Lantern voice actors

by admin August 31, 2025

Green Lantern and Superman voice actors told fans at conventions they were working on Injustice 3. Fans immediately started celebrating online after years of silence.

Injustice 2 released in 2017 and was a major hit. It combined DC superheroes and villains with the tight mechanics of NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat series. The game sold well, received strong reviews, and kept a dedicated player base alive with DLC characters and competitive tournaments.

After that, NetherRealm shifted focus to Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019 and then Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023. Rumors of Injustice 3 appeared every few months, but Warner Bros never confirmed anything and the studio stayed quiet. Until now, the franchise’s future was only speculation.

Phil LaMarr, the voice of John Stewart’s Green Lantern, signed a fan’s Injustice 2 steelbook at a convention in Houston. While chatting, he casually mentioned, “they’re making another one, they’re doing Injustice 3.”

That was placed over the Hal Jordan skin in injustice 2 as DLC. then he signed my steelbook and I told him he is my definitive voice for John Stewart. He hands me my steelbook and says “you know they’re making another one, they’re doing Injustice 3.” And my heart started racing pic.twitter.com/j1ZsWGEwyn

Around the same time, George Newbern, the voice of Superman, told another fan that he was “currently working on Injustice 3.” Both interactions spread quickly online, with fans treating them as the first real confirmation of the sequel.

Yesterday, I finally met my favorite voice for Superman! @georgenewbern! I was telling him he’s definitive as the voice for me and how much I loved the game MultiVersus. In response to my MultiVersus comment, he told me he’s currently working on Injustice 3! #Superman pic.twitter.com/PICBuZlSuS

— Brendan Borrow (@Brendan_Batman) August 23, 2025

These comments suggest that development is underway and possibly well advanced. NetherRealm usually records voice work in the middle stages of development.

The studio has a pattern of rotating between Mortal Kombat and Injustice, so the timeline matches up. With DC’s new leadership under James Gunn and Peter Safran pushing for stronger multimedia projects, Injustice 3 could arrive as part of a bigger strategy for DC games.

The fighting game scene in 2025 is already stacked. Tekken 8 has been thriving and Street Fighter 6 continues to evolve. If Injustice 3 joins the lineup soon, it could shift attention back to superhero fighters and make the competitive scene even more exciting.

See How David Corenswet Became Superman in His Audition Tape

by admin August 24, 2025

The world was abuzz with speculation just a few years ago when it came time for James Gunn to cast his new Superman. Even before the part ultimately went to David Corenswet, he was being floated around as a likely candidate, and now you can watch how he got the part.

YouTube account 21Casting posted the actor’s audition tape, which he performed with his wife Julia Warner. The three-minute video features him as Clark Kent being interviewed as Superman by Lois Lane over his intervention in Biayla—not Jarnanphur, as it is in the finished film—and early parts of their argument that helps inform the film’s core philosophy about the hero’s place in the world.

In a GQ cover story prior to Superman’s release, Gunn revealed he’d basically already picked Corenswet the moment he saw the audition, calling him “the guy to beat from the very beginning.” (It didn’t hurt that he sent Gunn a handwritten letter after the audition, too.) Turns out, quite a few people have spent years thinking he’d be good for Superman, and the only one who needed convincing was Corenswet himself: he previously told People that Warner thought he was a shoo-in once they made the tape. “I thought she was crazy, but she felt it from the beginning,” he told the magazine. “So if anything, I knew that she would be even more excited than I was.”

Corenswet’s not the only one with an audition tape hitting the internet this year: last week, we got to see how Britt Lower auditioned to play Helly R. in Severance, and we saw former Superman Henry Cavill’s old tryout for Bond back when the hunt was on pre-Casino Royale.

‘Superman’ and ‘Star Wars’ Actor Terence Stamp Dies at Age 87

by admin August 18, 2025

English actor Terence Stamp, seen across a variety of film and TV over the decades, has passed away at 87 years old.

In a statement to Reuters, the actor’s family revealed he passed on Sunday morning. Born July 22, 1938, he made his film debut with the 1962 adaptation of Herman Melville’s Billy Budd as the title character. The role earned him an Academy Award nomination and recognition that allowed him to star in films like 1965’s The Collector and 1967’s Poor Cow.

Genre-wise, Terence Stamp famously played General Zod in the first two Superman movies, and Chancellor Valorum in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Other notable roles include Stick in 2005’s Elektra, Bud Chantilas in Red Planet, and Ramsley in Disney’s 2003 Haunted Mansion. Stamp would later return to DC for Smallville (as Jor-El) and Static Shock (Professor Menace), and voiced the Prophet of Truth in Halo 3 and Mankar Camoran in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. He was also a potential James Bond candidate after Sean Connery retired from the role, which ended up not working out. He also appeared in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

More recently, Stamp could be seen in Netflix’s Murder Mystery, HBO’s His Dark Materials series and Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho. Archival audio of his performance as Mankar was also used for the recent Oblivion remaster.

In its statement, Stamp’s family noted his “extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come.”

Actor Terence Stamp, who played General Zod in Superman and Mankar Camoran in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, has died

by admin August 17, 2025

As reported by the BBC, the family of Terence Stamp has confirmed that the actor died on Sunday morning at the age of 87. In Stamp’s long and illustrious career, the actor had some notable videogame performances, including the Prophet of Truth in Halo, and Mankar Camoran in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

Stamp was born to a working class London family in 1938, and first rose to popularity in the 1960s, once even being considered to replace Sean Connery as James Bond. Stamp is perhaps best known today for the second act of his career, where he made a mark as a versatile character actor. Stamp played General Zod opposite Christopher Reeve in the first two Superman movies in 1978 and 1980.

Stamp had a small number of videogame appearances in his career, most notably in Halo 3 and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Stamp was one of a number of famous actors who lent their voices to Oblivion, including Sir Patrick Stewart, Sean Bean, and Lynda Carter. Stamp’s performance as Mankar Camoran can once again be heard in Virtuous’ remaster of Oblivion, as well as the upcoming Skyblivion mod remake.

In the documentary, The Making of Oblivion, Stamp can be seen working in the booth, delivering some of his lines as Camoran and receiving direction from longtime Elder Scrolls lead, Todd Howard. Though Stamp says in the documentary that he had only gotten the FedEx of the script the night before recording and that he was less familiar with this “area of performance,” his delivery of Camoran remains a highlight of the game.

“Superman 1 and 2, kinda my formative years, when I was six or seven. Terence Stamp is General Zod, and he has a great line in Superman 2, where he gets Superman to kneel,” Howard explained in the documentary. “‘Son of Jor-El, kneel before Zod!’ And my brother would always do that but change ‘Zod’ to ‘Todd.’ Just over the years, one of those things.”

Naturally, in-between recording Cameron’s commanding and esoteric monologues to the Mythic Dawn cult, Stamp graciously delivered a menacing “Kneel before Todd!” For Howard and his brother.

Stamp was reportedly in talks to reprise his role as transgender drag queen Bernadette Bassenger in a distant sequel to the 1994 film, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. According to IMDB, his final role will remain an appearance in Edgar Wright’s 2021 film, Last Night in Soho.
