In a rematch of Super Bowl LIX and Super Bowl LVII, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are hosting Jalen Hurts and the Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium. These two sides faced off just seven months ago in New Orleans as Philadelphia defeated Kansas City 40-22.

It’s the 11th Super Bowl rematch to occur in the following season, and it is the third straight year that it has happened, according to ESPN Research. Including the Chiefs and Eagles’ two Super Bowl matchups, this is their fifth meeting in the past five seasons, marking the first time since the 1970 merger that teams from different conferences will play five times in a five-year span — the series is tied at 2-2.

Philadelphia is coming off a 24-20 victory against the Dallas Cowboys on banner night, while Kansas City lost 27-21 to the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo. The Chiefs haven’t gone 0-2 since the 2014 season, the last time they missed the playoffs, while the Eagles can go 2-0 for the third time in four seasons.

Will Kansas City get its first win of the season, or will the Eagles remain undefeated in their championship-defending season? Follow along for live updates, highlights and more.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 And 2 Are Coming To Switch This October

by admin September 14, 2025

Hot off the heels of the announcement of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Nintendo announced that both Super Mario Galaxy games are finally coming to Switch this October.

2007’s Super Mario Galaxy and 2010’s Super Mario Galaxy 2 are being bundled together in a package plainly dubbed Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2.  Each game can also be purchased standalone, but only digitally.

The games are natively designed for the original Switch, meaning they’re also playable on Switch 2. The Switch 2 version will receive a free update adding 4K resolution support for both games.  The Galaxy games on Switch also boast improved resolution, improved UI, an Assist Mode, and new Storybook chapters fleshing out the story of the Lumas.

While Super Mario Galaxy was previously available on Switch via the Super Mario 3D All-Stars, that game is no longer available to for purchase. This gives fans who missed that collection another chance to own Galaxy and its equally excellent sequel, which is making its Switch debut after being excluded from 3D All-Stars. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be available on Switch on October 2 for $69.99. Purchasing each game individually will cost $39.99.

Additionally, Nintendo is releasing new Galaxy-themed amiibo of Mario and Rosalina on April 2, 2026 and physical version of the storybook featured in the first Mario Galaxy.

Every Super Mario Game, Ranked From Worst To Best

by admin September 13, 2025

For a long time, the word “Nintendo” was synonymous with video games, and Nintendo has always been shorthand for Mario. The Japanese console mainstay has published dozens of platformers starring the overall-loving plumber since his original debut in 1981’s Donkey Kong, and we’re here to tell you which ones are the worst and best.

This ranking was originally published on March 31, 2023. We are re-publishing it today in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. series.

After connecting with his brother Luigi in 1983’s single-screen arcade hit Mario Bros., Mario made the jump to consoles—and scrolling—in 1985’s NES adventure Super Mario Bros. Nearly 40 years and 25 games later, the Super Mario games comprise one of the longest running and most predictably spectacular series ever. From 2D to 3D, on good hardware and bad, Mario running, jumping, and collecting coins has been a constant not just for Nintendo, but in the fabric of the medium itself, driving it forward, inspiring it, reacting to what’s worked, and pushing back against what hasn’t.

Trying to rank the Super Mario games is like trying to rank flavors of ice cream. Some are clear favorites. Others are acquired tastes. Most are still better than whatever the alternative is. In putting together this list, which includes input from across Kotaku’s staff, as well as direct contributions from many of us, we tried to consider the games holistically: their historical context, their revolutionary or creative innovations, how well they hold up now, and the impressions they’ve left with us.

The ranking we arrived at is not beyond reproach and is far from scientific, but it is correct. Here we go!

Looking back at Super Mario Galaxy, the Nintendo game that landed from another star

by admin September 13, 2025

Editor’s note: With the news that Nintendo is bringing back Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 for the Nintendo Switch 2 next month – and releasing a Super Mario Galaxy movie next year – we thought we’d resurface a lovely piece of retrospective writing on the original, from former Eurogamer Editor-in-Chief and Birdo superfan, Martin Robinson. The original context for a look-back here was Super Mario Odyssey’s impending release – gosh, how time flies. Now we have an excuse to revisit this Wii classic once again.

It’s only natural that a game set in the heavens would feel like something that’s landed from a distant planet. Super Mario Galaxy, Tokyo EAD’s dizzying spin on the Nintendo mascot’s mainline series, is renowned for many things: for being a highlight of the Wii’s catalogue, the follow-up to Super Mario 64 that particular trailblazer deserved and for being the very best of its generation. Yet, coming up to a whole ten years since it first launched, the whole thing still feels like a dream.

Of course the Mushroom Kingdom has always felt like a colourful slice of slumberland, with its chatty toadstools, weaponised turtles and candy cane countryside. Galaxy, though, goes a step beyond – here’s a video game that doubles down on the reveries of the semi-conscious, in which falling can feel as fantastic as flying as you place yourself at the whim of this game’s own eccentric gravity. In Super Mario Galaxy, the chasms you may well have avoided in other platform games beg to be leaped into, just so you might see where they take you next.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 might put up the sterner challenge and may well be the better game, but I’ll take its predecessor any day for the coherence of its own particular dream world. The hub world ties its disparate planets together, the soaring, beautiful soundtrack stirs the soul as does the storybook – a gently melancholic tale of how the enchantress Rosalina made her way to the stars – which slowly unfurls throughout the adventure. It all comes together to create a richly emotive Mario game.

Watch on YouTube

Put that down, in no small part, to director Yoshiaki Koizumi, a man who got his break by weaving a now beloved dream. Koizumi made his name at Nintendo when he was drafted in to write the manual for Link’s Awakening, and upon finding there wasn’t much there to work with let his imagination fill in the bountiful space he’d been left; the dream world, the concept and the island were all his doing. Super Mario Galaxy, somewhat surprisingly only Tokyo EAD’s second project after the deliciously unorthodox Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, was also infused with that same wistful magic. Koizumi revelled in sneaking story into Mario; at night after work had finished, Koizumi would stay late to personally draft the storybook himself until it was ready to present to his mentor, Shigeru Miyamoto.

The results are spectacular, and as surprising – in their own way – as Super Mario 64 before it. There’s a cruelty to how the Mario game between those two – the quirky, lopsided but still loveable Super Mario Sunshine – has been written off as an odd offshoot, though while that game deserves its own plaudits there’s no doubting which is the true successor to 64. There’s the simple fact that Galaxy’s genesis, and the idea of spherical worlds, came from the Mario 128 demo at SpaceWorld 2000 – and then there’s its incredible ability to awe the player with new ideas at every turn.

Super Mario Odyssey, of course, looks like it’ll match the open sandbox design of 64 with the sheer inventiveness of Galaxy, but will it match its brilliant ambiance and style? Not long to find out, but no matter where Odyssey lands in the pantheon of Mario greats, I’ll always have soft spot for this, a strange and wonderful game beamed in from another star.

New Yoshi platformer unveiled to celebrate Super Mario Bros 40th anniversary

by admin September 12, 2025

A new Yoshi platformer is heading to Switch 2 to celebrate the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book features a gorgeous hand-drawn storybook aesthetic and puzzle-like 2D gameplay.

In a string of Mario-themed announcements, this and Mario Tennis Fever were the only actual new games revealed, alongside a Switch 2 update for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the Super Mario Galaxy double pack.

Still, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book looks delightful, as Nintendo follows up the wool and crafting themes of its previous Yoshi adventures.

I am, however, quite concerned about the size of the belly button on this grumpy creature.

He should get that checked out | Image credit: Nintendo

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches on Switch 2 in spring next year – right around the time of the newly-revealed The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Nintendo Drops Surprise Trailer for New ‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’

by admin September 12, 2025

Mario is returning to the big screen. Following the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which made more than $1.3 billion worldwide in 2023, animation studio Illumination and Nintendo are releasing a sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, in April 2026. Nintendo dropped a teaser trailer during its Direct presentation on Friday.

The teaser doesn’t offer much about the movie, which takes its name from the 2007 platformer. Mario dozes in a field before title credits appear, that’s about it. But the trailer still signifies that Nintendo will continue to churn out films aimed at turning Mario into a megafranchise.

It’s no coincidence that the trailer and accompanying announcement come just one day before the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. video game. In the four decades since that game’s release, Mario—and Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, and other assorted characters—have become cultural icons.

In 1993, Super Mario Bros. became one of the earliest videogame film adaptations. It was panned by critics and fans, but in the years since, games ranging from Mortal Kombat to Tomb Raider have been turned into movies. Now, as superhero fatigue sets in and ’90s nostalgia peaks, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which will include nods to the entire Mario series, stands poised to continue Mario’s domination.

Considered the most successful video game adaptation ever made, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was the second highest-grossing movie of 2023, second only to Barbie. The original cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Jack Black as Bowser, will return for the sequel.

Alongside the news, Nintendo also announced it will release remastered versions of Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel on October 2.

Mario Movie 2 Title Leaks Point To Super Mario Galaxy And Odyssey

by admin September 11, 2025

The next Mario Bros. movie is out April 2026 and it still doesn’t have an official title. Unofficially, however, the titles has seemingly leaked thanks to recently registered domain names, and all signs point to a riff on Super Mario Galaxy.

Per Wario64, the domain name supermariogalaxy.movie was registered by NBCUniversal earlier this month, followed by supermariogalaxy-lefilm.com and supermariogalaxy-lapelicula.com on September 10. They redirect to Universal’s homepage and match up with the conventions used for the domains for the original Super Mario Bros. movie.

https://t.co/EHknBYD082 (Super Mario Galaxy film) domain also registered by NBC Universal on Sept 3rd.

For the first movie, Universal used https://t.co/kT7oaJCDzS for the movie’s website (now points to VOD/Disc links since it’s been out for years) https://t.co/q0zVL2LsAI pic.twitter.com/2uvjPnIwJQ

— Wario64 (@Wario64) September 11, 2025

This backs up a leak from months ago when a photo of labels featuring the title The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Old Spice deodorant started making the rounds online. It wasn’t clear at the time if it was an elaborate fake or not, though the renders showing Yoshi and Luigi looked authentic. The latest information about the domain names suggests it was legit.

“Can’t believe that the Mario movie sequence was leaked by an Old Spice merch, of all things,” the YouTube account NintendoFan posted on X. “What a crazy timeline! I loved Yoshi’s look on that little can. Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see it in 4K.”

The Super Mario Bros. Movie ended with Bowser defeated and Mario and Luigi returning to their lives in Brooklyn while a post-credits sequent revealed a hatching Yoshi egg somewhere in the sewers. There weren’t any other strong leads on where the second movie would take things, but the apparent title suggests at the very least the gang is headed into space. Maybe to try and find a home for Yoshi?

2007’s Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii sees the plumber hopping from planet to planet in order to free magical stars for Rosalina’s ship, called the Comet Observatory, which got messed up by Bowser. The game features a star character, Lumalee, who already appeared in the first movie. At the same time, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a reimagining of the series lore more than a remix of it, so The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will likely have its own twist on the elements of the game, if it borrows directly from them at all.

One last thing worth noting is that the Old Spice art showed a Tostarenan from Super Mario Odyssey hanging behind Luigi. So whatever Nintendo and Minions studio Illumination Entertainment are planning, it’s likely much bigger than any one Mario game. The second movie hits theaters on April 3, 2026.

Maingear's 'Super 16' Gaming Laptop Has a Blistering Fast 300Hz Display

Maingear’s ‘Super 16’ Gaming Laptop Has a Blistering Fast 300Hz Display

by admin September 4, 2025

The jump to the Nvidia RTX 50-series GPUs and the avalanche of tariff woes make our gaming gadgets more costly for only marginal performance gains. Out of this murk of price gouging is Maingear, a company best known for making custom gaming desktops. Its new “Super 16″ 16-inch gaming laptop, announced at the same time as IFA 2025, does more than most companies to set itself apart, but it’s the starting price for its specs that makes it more enticing than competing notebooks.

Maingear worked with the Taiwan-based laptop brand Clevo on its new $2,400 gaming laptop, but the design still has a subtle amount of Maingear’s usual flair with its clean, uniform look and minimalistic RGB backlit keyboard. The stated specs of the Super 16 won’t surprise anybody paying attention to today’s laptop slate. It’s packing an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU running at a full 140W. What actually sets the laptop apart is the display—a 300Hz IPS LCD at 2,560 x 1,600 resolution. You’ll easily miss the beautiful black levels and contrast of OLED on devices like the $2,600 Razer Blade 14 or even mini LED on a $3,300 HP Omen Max 16. On the bright side, the screen can display high frame rates.

© Maingear © Maingear

The RTX 50-series GPUs are capable of topping 100 fps with the help of multi-frame gen. This is a technology that inserts multiple AI-generated frames in between natively rendered frame rates, artificially boosting the overall fps. While the technology isn’t necessary for playing games at playable frame rates (you normally need at least 40 or closer to 60 fps for frame gen to work without experiencing odd visual glitches), it can make games run smoother than normal. The RTX 5070 Ti won’t be able to push the most-demanding Cyberpunk 2077-level games to their peak with ray tracing on Ultra settings, but it should be enough for most of your Steam library at the laptop’s max resolution. You can find other budget-friendly gaming laptops with 240Hz OLED screens, like the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S, for $1,900. That’s still more than last year’s Helio Neo 16 models. Acer said it hiked prices earlier this year in response to Trump’s tariffs.

While Maingear’s Super 16 supports Wi-Fi 7, it only includes up to Thunderbolt 4 USB-C instead of the more modern Thunderbolt 5. Otherwise, the device’s I/O still comes through in a pinch with two USB-A, HDMI, and a microSD card slot. What’s more, the device doesn’t use any proprietary port for charging. The 230W AC adapter uses a 100W USB-C plug. Framework made a big deal out of its 240W USB-C charging through USB-C on its upcoming Framework Laptop 16.

Maingear’s first 18-inch “Ultima” gaming laptop looks sleek in its ocean blue color, but it also costs $3,400 at the low end with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX GPU and RTX 5080 GPU, or $4,300 with an RTX 5090 mobile GPU. That’s not bad considering the competition for 18-inch devices, such as the high-end $4,050 Alienware 18 Area-51 config, especially with its 200Hz display. The major difference between Alienware and Maingear’s top-end notebooks is the former has ultra-clicky mechanical keys that make typing a joy. Every laptop will have tradeoffs. The lone remaining question is whether Maingear’s Super 16 may have enough going for it to make up for what it lacks.

Lego Super Mario World Pixel Art Model Gets Rare Price Cut At Amazon And Walmart

Lego’s Retro Super Mario World Model Gets Huge Limited-Time Discount At Walmart

by admin September 2, 2025

Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi is on sale for 20% off at Walmart thanks to the retailer’s newly launched Bricktember Sale. The promotion is loaded with exclusive Lego bundles as well as deals on rarely discounted sets. Walmart’s deal drops the price of the 1,215-piece pixel art display model to only $104 (was $130). The Bricktember Sale also includes the largest Lego Super Mario expansion playset. The 1,392-piece Bowser Express Train is discounted to only $80 (was $120).

Last week, Walmart and Amazon both had the Super Mario World Lego set for $117. Only Walmart has the $104 deal at this time, but Amazon’s $117 deal is still active. Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi launched last October and is one of only a handful of Nintendo Lego sets geared toward adults that is actively being produced today.

$104 (was $130)

Lego Super Mario World: Mario and Yoshi is a 1,215-piece set that authentically captures the pixelated aesthetic from the Super Nintendo era. It’s a fun build to piece together and a fitting display piece for all Super Mario fans, but especially those with a fondness for the 16-bit character designs.

The completed model is 15.5 x 10 x 4 inches and features several interactive components. There’s a dial behind Yoshi’s head that extends his tongue. The crank on the side of the base creates a more elaborate animation. Yoshi’s legs move to make it appear as if he is running. Adding to the illusion is the figure’s quick bouncing motion. Yoshi’s head inches forward and back, and Mario’s cape sways gently, just as it does in the game.

It also has an Action Tag, so if you own one of the Adventures with Lego Super Mario starter courses, the Interactive figures (Mario, Luigi, or Peach) will react.

Lego did a wonderful job making the instructions easy to follow. I used a combination of the physical instruction booklet and the Lego Builder app on iPad. The square pieces used to create the “pixel art” are numbered in the booklet, which was extremely helpful for me as someone with colorblindness.

Though technically part of Lego’s 18-plus “for adults” line, kids who have assembled sets in the 1,000-piece probably won’t have any issues.

Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi is one of only eight Lego Nintendo display models designed for adults. Earlier this year, Lego launched a 1,972-piece Mario Kart display model for $170. The elaborate build features Mario’s iconic red kart and the first realistic Lego replica of the character’s modern 3D look.

On October 1, exactly one year after Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi’s launch, Lego’s highly anticipated Game Boy replica will be available at major retailers and the Lego Store. The 421-piece display set only costs $60 and includes two buildable cartridges, three lenticular screens, multiple display stands, and several interactive features. Check out our Lego Game Boy preorder guide for more details, and keep in mind multiple retailers have sold out of preorders numerous times. Preorders sold out at Amazon in late August, but Walmart restocked the Lego Game Boy around the same time.

Lego Nintendo Building Sets for Adults

The most affordable Lego Nintendo display model is the 540-piece Piranha Plant, which you can find on sale at Amazon and Walmart for just $48 (was $60).

Save on the largest Lego Super Mario Playset

Lego Super Mario: The Bowser Express Train

As mentioned, The Bowser Express Train is the largest Lego Super Mario playset by piece count. There are a few Lego Nintendo display models for adults with more pieces–The Mighty Bowser is the biggest overall with approximately twice as many pieces–but the 1,392-piece Bowser’s Express Train is considered a Lego Super Mario Expansion Set. Based on The Bowser Express level in Super Mario 3D World, this elaborate and well-designed build has four train cars, a makeshift station, and numerous interactive elements such as a spring-loaded shooter. It comes with six buildable Lego Super Mario figures.

Up until now, The Bowser Express Train hadn’t received any notable discounts–it almost always sold for full price–so now’s your chance to save $40 on this awesome Bowser-themed Lego set.

Super Smash Bros mod adds Nintendo cease and desist letter as playable character

by admin September 1, 2025

After facing backlash over a paid Balatro-themed skin for Super Smash Bros. Melee, modder Mooshie turned a fake Nintendo cease and desist letter into a playable fighter.

On August 21, modder Mooshie released a new Super Smash Bros. Melee mod that added Jimbo from Balatro as a skin for Mr. Game & Watch. Sharing the project on Twitter, Mooshie promoted it with the caption: “I put Balatro into Melee! Get it at my newly created Patreon, linked below!”

However, because the mod was initially locked behind a paid Patreon tier, it quickly drew backlash from the community. On August 26, Mooshie issued a lengthy statement apologizing for the rollout and announcing a new approach: all future mods will be free to download, with paid Patreon supporters only receiving early access before public release.

They explained that the decision came after hearing feedback and consulting with other creators, calling the early-access model a “compromise” that ensures mods are playtested while still keeping them accessible to the broader community.

A new foe has appeared: Nintendo cease and desist

On August 31, Mooshie followed up with another project, this time giving Kirby a makeover by turning him into a parody Nintendo cease and desist letter.

While meant as a joke, this mod is available for free on Mooshie’s Patreon, with the showcase tweet reading: “I put my Cease & Desist Letter from Nintendo into Melee! See how much court fines you can stack up against your opponents with this new skin over [COPYRIGHTED CHARACTER]!

While the skin looks like an official takedown notice at first glance, a closer look reveals lines such as “low key that mod do be sick though” and “Your mod too tough. Your Game & Watch too different.” Mooshie has not confirmed receiving any real communication from Nintendo.

The trailer also promises “more real mods soon,” with a cameo from the protagonist of LISA that may hint at what Mooshie is planning next.
