Honkai Nexus Anima revealed, a spin-off creature collector from Genshin Impact studio

by admin August 29, 2025

Honkai Nexus Anima has just been officially revealed. It’s a creature collection game where you gather up a team of friendly critters and have them duke it out in auto-battler style combat. You can sign up for the closed beta test now.

Coming from the same company behind Honkai Star Rail, Genshin Impact, and Zenless Zone Zero, Honkai Nexus Anima appears to be another drastic genre departure for the gacha developer. It’s been in rumoured development for a while, but today marks the first official showing.

When not duking it out in combat, the game is a third person adventure game where you and your gang of lil’ friends can run around, complete side activities, participate in minigames, and more. A small gameplay trailer has been released which you can watch below.

In-game footage from Honkai: Nexus Anima

*The game is under development, and subject to change.
*This Nexus Bond Test is available in 5 languages: Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean. Support for more languages will be added in the future.…

Those interested can sign up for the test via the official website, with the recruitment period lasting from now until 12th September. There’s also a giveaway going on to celebrate the event, where social media users who engage with the fresh Honkai Nexus Anima account can win access to the closed beta test, some cash, and a bobble box set.

As for when the game will leave the closed beta period, there’s no official word as of yet. However, Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai Star Rail moved quite swiftly from beta windows to a full release. So even if you don’t get in, keep an eye out for more news on Honkai Nexus Anima.

Surprise! Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s secret mode was developed by the studio behind Bayonetta

by admin August 23, 2025

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has brought back the secret Guy Savage mode within the remake. But it turns out this mode wasn’t made by Konami alone – Platinum Games (Bayonetta, Astral Chain) is responsible for the surprise action minigame.

The Guy Savage mode can be played by saving the game and exiting to the menu directly after the torture scene deep into the game. When you re-launch the game, the Guy Savage minigame will start. Alternatively, beat the game and the minigame will be accessible.

Guy Savage was originally based on a cancelled prototype for Zone of the Enders 3 / Anubis 2 which was snuck into the original Metal Gear Solid 3. In Delta, every little Easter egg and trick has been recreated. The same goes for minigames, with Snake vs Monkey coming back (with a surprise appearance from Astro Bot).

Check out the launch trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater here!Watch on YouTube

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is an incredibly faithful recreation of the original game. Eurogamer’s review states: “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is faithful, it’s a church dedicated to one of gaming’s best stealth games. Updates to how the game plays are subtle, and in regard to the new gameplay style, totally optional. So much is left untouched, and that’s for the best. Add in some original art, some obscure modes, and let her loose.”

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

The translucent Beats Studio Buds Plus are half off

by admin August 22, 2025

Noise-canceling earbuds are great productivity tools, blocking out noisy roommates and busy coffee shops so you can focus on studying or work. While there are a number of great options these days, few are as eye-catching like the translucent Beats Studio Buds Plus. And right now, you can buy the stylish wireless earbuds for just $84.99 from Woot — a 50 percent discount and the best price we’ve seen outside of a brief drop to $63 earlier in June.

The wireless earbuds are some of our favorites, and not just because they look cool. Despite the fact Apple owns Beats, they play well with both iOS and Android devices. They don’t support every software feature — like Apple’s automatic device switching — but they still offer perks like one-tap pairing and integration with each platform’s respective Find My networks. Their sound quality also comes close to matching the latest AirPods Pro, and their active noise-cancellation does a good job of tuning out distractions — even if it’s not as powerful as Apple’s premium earbuds.

The Beats Studio Buds Plus are also comfortable, arriving with four swappable silicone ear tips. You also get IPX4 water resistance, as well as up to six hours of battery life on a single charge with ANC enabled. While we wish they also offered wireless charging and multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, all in all they’re a well-rounded option that can help you focus while looking good — especially if you own both iOS and Android devices.

Bungie Boss Leaves Halo And Destiny Studio After 23 Years

by admin August 22, 2025

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons is leaving after 23 years. Fellow veteran Justin Truman will take over as the storied Halo studio struggles with flagging interest in Destiny 2, the delayed launch of Marathon, and a painful Sony integration following a sky-high $3.6 billion acquisition back in 2022.

“After more than two decades of helping build this incredible studio, establishing the Bungie Foundation, and growing inspiring communities around our work, I have decided to pass the torch,” Parsons wrote in a blog post over on Bungie’s website. “This journey has been the honor of a lifetime. I am deeply proud of the worlds we’ve built together and the millions of players who call them home – and most of all I am privileged by the opportunity to work alongside the incredible minds at Bungie.”

Parsons joined Bungie back in 2002 and was an executive producer on Halo 2. He took over the studio when previous CEO Harold Ryan left in 2016, the year before Destiny 2 shipped. He helped engineer the studio’s exit from a publishing deal with Activision in 2019, and Bungie continued to grow amid near-annual expansions for the hit sci-fi loot shooter.

But things began to change after selling to Sony in 2022. Bungie’s expertise in multiplayer games didn’t stop PlayStation’s live service strategy from quickly going sideways, and the studio suffered mass layoffs in both 2023 and 2024, with key talent departing, including veteran designers Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy, after a Destiny spin-off codenamed Payback was reportedly canceled.

IGN reported that a “soul-crushing” atmosphere among some staff in late 2023, amid the first round of cuts, as Bungie’s independence within Sony began to crumble following the declining fortunes of Destiny 2. Parsons came under fire during the 2024 layoffs after listings for his sports car collection indicated millions in purchases following the lucrative 2022 sale to Sony, even as rank-and-file staff were given pink slips.

“When I was asked to lead Bungie in 2015, my goal was to grow us into a studio capable of creating and sustaining iconic, generation-spanning entertainment,” Parsons wrote in his goodbye post. “We’ve been through so much together: we launched a bold new chapter for Destiny, built an enviable, independent live ops organization capable of creating and publishing its own games, and joined the incredible family at Sony Interactive Entertainment.”

More recently, Bungie has faced an uphill battle with Marathon, the extraction shooter revival of one of its oldest franchises. The game was supposed to come out in September but was indefinitely delayed following a middling reception to a closed alpha earlier this year and a plagiarized art scandal that saw the team forced to overhaul marketing assets, including trailers, to remove elements created by an outside artist.

Truman, a 15-year veteran of Bungie, began working at the studio on the original Destiny. He admitted to some of the studio’s recent fumbles but said it remains committed to “create worlds that inspire friendship.” “I’ve also been part of these efforts at Bungie when we’ve maybe not been at our best,” Truman wrote. “When we’ve stumbled and realized through listening to our community that we had missed the mark. I know I’ve personally learned a lot over the years, as have all of us here, from those conversations.”

He added, “We are hard at work right now doing that–both with Marathon and Destiny. We’re currently heads down, but we’ll have more to show you in both of these worlds later this year.”

Subnautica 2 studio Unknown Worlds are now suing their former execs for stealing docs and sharing them with the press

Subnautica 2 studio Unknown Worlds are now suing their former execs for stealing docs and sharing them with the press

by admin August 21, 2025

Time for your weekly helping of legal Subnaughtiness. Subnautica developers Unknown Worlds are suing recently departed director Charlie Cleveland, CEO Ted Gill, and studio co-founder Max McGuire for, amongst other things, stealing a bunch of game design files shortly before they were fired.

Or at least, an external legal firm acting on behalf of Unknown Worlds have filed suit. The firm in question – Richards, Layton, and Finger – are also representing parent company Krafton as they defend themselves against an earlier lawsuit brought by Cleveland, Gill and McGuire, who are accusing Krafton of dismissing them unfairly and delaying Subnautica 2’s release to avoid paying out a timed $250 million bonus.

Krafton 100% own Unknown Worlds, and are Subnautica 2’s publisher. So why isn’t this lawsuit coming from them? As PCGamer’s Andy Chalk suggests, the suspicion is that the lawyers have picked Unknown Worlds as plaintiff, rather than Krafton, because they think they’ll get more sympathy that way from Johnny Average Gamer. After all, everybody knows publishers are stinkheads.

A Krafton spokesperson has justified the situation as follows to Chalk: “While Krafton is the parent company, the contracts, intellectual property and confidential information at issue belong to Unknown Worlds. The defendants were executive leadership at Unknown Worlds, and their obligations, including confidentiality and fiduciary duties, were owed to that entity.”

The lawsuit itself broadly reiterates Krafton’s earlier claims that the three banished executives shirked their responsibilities toward Subnautica 2, and that they were only pushing to get the game released this year for the sake of that $250 million bonus (Cleveland, McGuire and Gill stood to receive 90% of it personally, but claim they planned to distribute most of their earnings to the rest of the Unknown Worlds team).

The document is full of redacted bits, excerpts from internal correspondence, and a bunch of screencaps from Reddit that are offered up as evidence that regular Subnautica players think the departed studio executives are at fault. Congratulations, redditor Plebius-Maximus – when they turn all this into a movie, you are probably going to be played by Justin Timberlake.

Cleveland is accused of being first to “stray” by leaving video game development in 2023 to “learn how to produce movies and explore other interests”. The lawyers say that by 2024, he had abandoned “all creative or other leadership roles with the Company”. As for McGuire, he’s said to have “spent 2022 and 2023 buried in the passion project of a new game, Moonbreaker, even well past the time that it became clear that Moonbreaker was a commercial failure”. The lawsuit accuses Gill, the CEO, of doing nothing about these “functional departures from game development of leadership”. It alleges that development “stalled” as a result, resulting in projected release date delays and a “degraded” project scope.

With regard to the much-ballyhooed $250 million “earnout”, the lawsuit accuses the three of trying to “publish whatever they could under the Subnautica 2 name on a timeline” that would ensure they received the money, despite the game falling “far short of the Company’s internally-set expectations for the early access release”. It claims that when Krafton rejected their proposals, the three executives threatened to self-publish Subnautica 2. It was this conversation, the lawsuit claims, that led to Unknown Worlds terminating their employment.

That much, we’ve approximately heard before. But the accusations of stealing documents from the company are new. On June 2nd and June 30th- shortly before he was fired – Gill allegedly exported his entire Unknown Worlds email account, triggering an IT alert. McGuire is said to have downloaded 99,902 company files shortly before his own termination, including documents from Moonbreaker’s development. Cleveland supposedly “downloaded 72,140 Company files” between June 26th and his termination on 1st July, only to be interrupted when Unknown Worlds cut off his access to the system in the course of his firing.

When the mass downloading of files was reported, Unknown Worlds apparently sent a cease & desist letter to the three, demanding that they return any confidential info in their possession. According to the lawsuit, the fired executives at first refused, and then proposed to delete files rather than turn over their devices for inspection. The lawsuit alleges that Gill, Cleveland and McGuire are both using this confidential information in their lawsuit against Krafton, and have also “improperly used or disclosed Confidential Information to members of the press”.

It’s not clear what this last part refers to, but it could be the internal Subnautica 2 planning document that appeared online in July. Krafton were happy to confirm that as authentic, which is understandable given that the document’s mention of stripped-out features supports their case for delaying the game.

You can read all 74 pages of the redacted Unknown Worlds lawsuit on Scribd. All of this is going to chug along for a while longer, I expect. For the moment, I will close by noting that the lawyers accuse Gill, Cleveland and McGuire of carrying out a “trifecta of mischief”, which is a magic phrase and also, sounds like the title of a Bond film. Perhaps they should cast Idris Elba as Plebius-Maximus – on reflection, I’m not sure Timberlake has the starpower for something this high octane. He can play Johnny Average Gamer instead.

BioShock 4 studio Cloud Chamber lay off staff, as ex-Diablo lead Rod Fergusson comes aboard

by admin August 20, 2025

2K have laid off an unspecified number of staff at Cloud Chamber, amid efforts to rework BioShock 4. These cuts come at the same time former Diablo lead Rod Fergusson joins as Cloud Chamber’s new studio head, taking up the position recently vacated by Kelley Gilmore.

A report from Bloomberg earlier this month revealed that the game had failed an internal progress check. Gilmore and creative director Hogarth de la Plante reportedly moved into different jobs as part of a resulting leadership shakeup. Despite all of this, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has insisted, amid chatting some nonsense about great being the new great, that the game will still make it to release.

That brings us to yesterday, when Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier reported that Cloud Chamber were letting folks go as they announced Fergusson’s impending arrival. IGN report that 2K haven’t said how many employees have been affected by the cuts, while publishing part of an email to staff from 2K president David Ismailer that aims to explain the reasoning behind them.

“Work on the next BioShock game has been underway for several years,” it reads. “While we’re excited about the foundational gameplay elements of the project, we’ve made the decision with studio leadership to rework certain aspects that are core to a BioShock game, and in doing so are reducing the size of the development team to focus on this work and give the game more time in development.”

BREAKING: BioShock 4 developer Cloud Chamber is laying off an unspecified number of staff.

Also, former Diablo boss Rod Fergusson is taking over as Cloud Chamber’s new studio head. More than a decade ago, he joined the troubled BioShock Infinite and helped salvage that game’s production.

The email reportedly concluded with Ismailer describing the multiple people losing their livelihoods and the hiring of one guy as making for a “day of mixed emotions”, before going full exec rah-rah speech about the state of BioShock. “These changes are rooted in 2K’s firm confidence in BioShock as one of the most beloved franchises, and our commitment to deliver the best game in franchise history,” he declared.

I’ve reached out to 2K for comment.

As for what the future looks like for BioShock 4, it’s clear why 2K have gone for ex-Blizzard man Fergusson. The veteran developer was previously brought in at Irrational games to help get 2013’s BioShock Infinite out of the door, having done the same for the likes of Gears of War.

Best of luck to the staff Cloud Chamber have let go.

Zhong Kui is the next title from Game Science Studio

by admin August 20, 2025

Game Science Studio isn’t resting on its laurels after the success of Black Myth: Wukong. The developer teased a follow-up project as the closer to Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase with a brief but beautifully detailed glimpse at Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

There’s no date attached to the cinematic teaser, and that’s because the game is still very much a work in progress. According to the FAQ entry about a possible release window, the team says “Well, to be honest—even Yocar himself has absolutely no idea” when it’ll be ready. But the same page does confirm that the plan is for Zhong Kui to launch on both PC and “all mainstream console platforms” whenever it is done.

From the title and the previous Black Myth game, this new project will once again be drawing inspiration from Chinese mythology. Legends around Zhong Kui dub him a conqueror of ghosts and evil spirits, so perhaps there will be some supernatural vibes in this entry to the emerging game series. Pretty much the only other thing we know besides the name and character is that Black Myth: Zhong Kui will once again be a single-player ARPG and it will be “following the same business model as before.”

Puzzle & Dragons studio claims former executive embezzled $2.35 million of company funds

by admin August 18, 2025

GungHo Online Entertainment, the studio behind Puzzles & Dragons, has claimed that a former senior executive embezzled ¥346 million ($2.35 million) by creating fake work and outsourcing orders to misappropriate company funds.

In a statement released on August 14, 2025 (via Automaton), GungHo Online Entertainment alleged that a former senior executive, who was dismissed for disciplinary reasons, had “engaged in misconduct” over the last few years, including the “misappropriation of company funds through the place of fictitious work orders” (via Google Translate).

“The company became aware of the suspicion of fraudulent activity by the former employee and conducted an initial investigation with the support of forensic teams from external law and accounting firms to determine whether the former employee had engaged in fraudulent activity and to clarify the facts of the matter,” GungHo Online Entertainment wrote in the statement.

GungHo Online Entertainment goes on to allege that, as a result of this initial investigation, it “confirmed” the former employee had embezzled approximately ¥246 million ($1.67 million) of company funds by using a third-party job-ordering service to create “fictitious work orders” which named the company as the client and the former employee as the contractor.

In addition, GungHo Online Entertainment alleges that it “confirmed” the former executive had “fraudulently paid outsourcing fees to a business partner despite the fact that no work had actually been performed,” resulting in a further loss of ¥100 million ($680,000).

In response, the company formed an internal investigation team, led by two independent, external auditors and supported by forensic teams from external law and accounting firms.

The investigation has been conducting interviews with those involved and aimed to provide a “detailed investigation into the facts of the fraudulent conduct in question through digital forensics of the devices used by the former employee.”

The team has also been investigating whether there were any similar cases, “analyzing the causes, and formulating measures to prevent recurrence.”

As a result of this alleged misconduct, the employee in question was dismissed on July 24, 2025.

GungHo Online Entertainment claimed in its statement that the alleged fraud was “maliciously and independently committed by the former employee, who was a senior executive with discretion and authority.” The company also claimed the former employee “engaged in cover-up efforts to avoid detection.”

In the statement, GungHo Online Entertainment revealed that it “has been consulting with investigative authorities and holding discussions regarding filing criminal charges.”

“The company is currently in concrete discussions regarding the acceptance of charges against the former employee and is fully cooperating with the investigative activities of the investigative authorities,” the statement reads.

“Therefore, in consideration of the potential hindrance to the investigative activities, the company will refrain from disclosing the details of this misconduct.”

GungHo Online Entertainment apologised for the “inconvenience and concern” the alleged incident may have caused to relevant parties, but said the impact on the company’s financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, is expected to be “minor.”

GungHo Online Entertainment is currently facing a shareholder revolt, with the company due to hold an extraordinary general meeting on September 24, 2025, where shareholders will vote on whether to oust its current CEO and president, Kazuki Morishita.

Studio Atelico raises $5 million to build AI-first games studio

Studio Atelico raises $5 million to build AI-first games studio

by admin August 18, 2025

Studio Atelico has raised $5 million in a seed investment round, which will be used to support the team’s mission “to redefine the role of generative AI in games.”

The funding round was led by Nathan Benaich of Air Street Capital, which announced the investment via its publication, Air Street Press, on August 14, 2025. Other investors include Stanford computer scientist Chris Ré, Hugging Face co-founder and CSO Thomas Wolf, and Snorkel AI co-founder and CEO Alex Ratner.

Founded in 2024 by AI and gaming industry veterans from Uber, Meta, and Creative Assembly, Studio Atelico is building an on-device AI engine for video games, which the company describes in its own press release as “a toolkit that helps us and other studios bring AI-powered experiences to life without massive budgets or custom infrastructure.”

In addition to building this engine, Studio Atelico is using the funding to “build games that push past the boundaries of hand-authored pipelines.”

“We don’t mean ‘generate a few trees procedurally,’” the company explained in its release. “We mean reactive worlds, characters that riff off your choices like improv actors, stories that don’t just branch but bloom. This is the kind of gameplay we’ve always wanted as players, and now we finally have the tech (and the team) to make it real.”

Studio Atelico’s first game is already in development, with more to be shared “soon.” While the company itself hasn’t said much about what this game will be, Air Street Press said the studio’s first releases “will target high-growth mobile and cross-platform markets.”

In its release, the company also addressed ethical concerns around generative AI.

“Ethics aren’t an afterthought; they’re part of our foundation,” Studio Atelico said. “We’re working directly with artists to ensure fairness, consent, compensation, and collaboration are part of every step, from model training to revenue sharing.

“We’re choosing on-device AI when we can, partnering with creators who share our values, and contributing to open datasets that prioritize ethics over speed.”

“We believe creativity should be amplified, not replaced,” the company added.
