Helldivers 2 devs Arrowhead pull new Rupture Strain bugs offline for five weeks to fix their, er, bugs

Helldivers 2 developers Arrowhead have opted to pull a recently deployed variant of the shooter’s Terminid bugs offline for five weeks, in order to fix issues with them. Yep, for now you can dive onto planets like Oshaune and explore some Into the Unjust update caves without having to worry about burrowing bugs jumping out to mercilessly kick your bottom.

Rupture Warriors have been the main source of Rupture Strain ire since their arrival at the start of this month, as their ability to pop out of the Earth and instantly murder unsuspecting troops has proven tough to counter. At first, those hosting sessions were most at risk of dying like this, but Arrowhead’s attempt to rectify the issue in Tuesday’s patch seemingly put everyone in each party in an equal amount of danger, though some players did dispute this was the case.

Fast forward to now, and the studio have decided the best option is to sub the Rupture Strain out for a little while, until they can return in a more palatable form. “Our patch yesterday combined with other issues regarding the balance of the Rupture Strain have made them function in a way we did not intend,” Arrowhead community manager Katherine ‘Baskinator’ Baskin announced on the game’s Discord server. “We’re going to take the Rupture Strain offline…No other units will be affected. The improved Rupture Strain will be back online in 5 weeks.”

So, there you go, as of 5PM BST on September 17th, the Rupture Strain’s been put back in its box, and will stay there for just over a month while the devs try to persuade those warriors to give folks with machine guns and bombs a fair chance.

A comment an Arrowhead QA lead going by Jojo made in the Discord a couple of days ago sheds a bit more light as to what’s happened since the patch arrived and the Rupture Warriors started mercilessly murdering everyone, rather than just session hosts. Apparently the host focusing quirk was down to a “networking issue” that Arrowhead opted to rectify.

“That is a lot more straightforward to fix then tweaking the attacks and was causing some networking issues,” the developer explained. “So it’s unfortunate that the fix means more people are getting hit by an arguably unfair attack, but it was a needed fix. We are looking into how the rupture enemies have landed but thats a broader issue.”

That look’s clearly convinced the studio that this pulling of the enemies offline is the best course of action, so here’s hoping that when they come back online, the issue of their overtuned attacks making them very unpopular to play against will have been taken care of for the long-term.

Bugged bugs aren’t the only problem Arrowhead have had to grapple with after deploying Into the Unjust, with the days following its arrival plagued by technical gremlins that, to be fair, the studio were quick to say they’d try to sort, even if they weren’t keen on doing a patch that only featured performance tweaks.

Quantexa Launches Platform to Reduce Stablecoin Strain on Small Banks

Quantexa, a data and analytics software firm, introduced a product on Wednesday that’s intended to help smaller financial institutions fight crypto-powered crime in the U.S.

The London-based company is now offering a cloud-based, anti-money laundering (AML) solution through Microsoft’s cloud computing platform, which is “designed specifically for U.S. mid-size and community banks,” according to a press release.

Quantexa said the pre-packaged product allows teams investigating financial crimes to make faster decisions with less overhead while maintaining accuracy, noting that banks are held to the same compliance standards across the U.S., despite what resources they may have. The product, dubbed Cloud AML, is also meant to reduce “false positives.”



A company survey published earlier this month found that 36% of AML professionals think digital assets will have the biggest impact on the AML industry within the next five years.

The product’s debut follows the passage of stablecoin legislation in the U.S. this summer that’s expected to unlock competition from the likes of Bank of Ameerica and Citigroup. With federal rules in place, stablecoins are expected to become more mainstream.

Some banks are taking a forward-looking approach toward their products, but most are more concerned about the ability to monitor inflows and outflows within the context of financial crime, Chris Bagnall, Quantexa’s head of financial crimes solutions for North America, told Decrypt.

“They’re just trying to find a way to monitor it, and that’s pretty much it,” he said. “Only the most innovative banks, which is a small handful in this space, are focused on making it a business.”

Banks may be able to see that a customer received or sent cash from a cryptocurrency exchange, but where the funds came from beyond that could be a blind spot, Bagnall said. If stablecoins become more common in everyday payments, then infrastructure providers could also emerge as common touch points, as funds flow between digital and traditional rails.

In some ways, stablecoins are prompting banks to take a more comprehensive view of their exposure to crypto-related risks, Bagnall said. In the past, banks knew what they were getting into if approached by a crypto-native firm, but those same factors can apply to individuals.

Atomfall’s second expansion, The Red Strain, unleashes its crimson tendrils next month

Dig your finest cricket bat out of the loft – Atomfall developers Rebellion have revealed its second story expansion is set to arrive in September. It’s dubbed The Red Strain, and looks to star a not-Robobrain who’s connected to a bunch of crimson plantlife filling the Cumberland quarantine zone.

This second DLC follows Wicked Isle, the first Atomfall expansion that you got automatically if you plumped for the deluxe edition of the radioactive pasty survivathon. I still need to go back and play that expansion, and this next add-on looks like an intriguing excuse to do so.

As announced by Rebellion’s fittingly brief blog post and trailer, The Red Strain will be released on September 16th. There’s precious little further info about it at the moment, but the devs have whispered that we can “expect a highly confidential new location and plenty more mysteries to uncover”.

As for the trailer, which you can watch below, it shows off what looks to be a plague of red plants linked to a human-brained robot that’s part of an organisation going by the acronym CORE. One would assume they’re different to, or possibly an offshoot of, the base game’s British Atomic Research Division (BARD). One thing’s for sure, we can expect more rooting through old facilities full of malfunctioning doodads and god knows what else. There’ll be more details forthcoming as the cerise exertion nears, or so Rebellion promise.

Our James liked Atomfall, writing in his review:

It’s a shame that next to the investigating, Atomfall’s shooting, sneaking, and cricket batting don’t deliver the same joys. Still, they’re competent enough not to get in the way, and with a little finesse it’s possible to enjoy extended bouts of that rich, intricate sleuthing without doing a single violence at all. Don’t let those village pub bores get you down: there are far worse places for a forgetful soldier-detective to be.

I’d generally agree with all of that, even if I was maybe a bit more downbeat in my review of it for my old home, mainly because I felt its endings were a bit too on the muted side to be truly satsifying conclusions to all of the great intrigue built up as you wander the hostile sectors of the zone. To me, that robbed Atomfall of totally nailing the ideal short-but-deep experience Rebellion were going for, but it’s all a matter of perspective. Those more into Atomfall’s British sci-fi inspirations than they are keyed up by Fallout to expect more in-your-face radioactive wackiness might find these conclusions perfectly fine.

Either way, I definitely need to give Wicked Isle a go, so am making a point of sliding the game up the great backlog list. I’ve tattoed said list across my inner thigh, so that every time I have impure throughts, I’m reminded that I bought The Saboteur in a Steam sale ages ago and still have zero hours in it.
