‘They believe’: South Florida’s hot start is no fluke

TAMPA, Fla. — USF coach Alex Golesh repeated the same thing after both of his team’s first two wins — a stunning blowout in the season opener against Boise State, and another shocker last weekend against Florida — “This ain’t the same ol’ South Florida, my brother!”

The 2-0 Bulls are ranked for the first time since 2018, notched the first win in school history over the Gators and are an early favorite to win the Group of 5 automatic berth into the College Football Playoff.

But there is more meaning behind those words, more than just a statement about big nonconference wins. Those nine words are a nod to one of Golesh’s close friends.

On the side of his headset, Golesh has the initials AAR, for the late USF men’s basketball coach Amir Abdur-Rahim.

Golesh and Abdur-Rahim were hired within three months of each other, similar coaches with similar beliefs, tasked with the same goal: Get USF to shed its underachiever status. Abdur-Rahim had done it at his previous stop at Kennesaw State, developing the Owls from being a one-win team to reaching the NCAA tournament.

Golesh had inherited a one-win football program and looked to Abdur-Rahim for advice. A few days after Abdur-Rahim was hired, Golesh went to see him in his office.

“They had literally just done at Kennesaw what we were trying to do, build it the right way,” Golesh said.

The two hit it off immediately. Their kids went to the same schools. Their wives became friends. That first spring they were together, in 2023, Abdur-Rahim would come out to practice and quickly became a fixture around the football program.

He would text Golesh after games that first season and offered his thoughts on a four-year plan for success. Golesh and his son, Barrett, would go to basketball games as Abdur-Rahim led USF to its best season ever in 2023-24, winning its first conference title and a school-record 25 games. It was during that run that Abdur-Rahim went viral for saying, “This ain’t the same ol’ South Florida, my brother!”

As the Bulls finished off their 34-7 win over Boise State on Aug. 28, Golesh felt a presence around him. He thought back to what Abdur-Rahim told him from the very beginning: Year 3 is when the players stop hoping they can win. Now, they start believing they can win.

“Amir used to always say, ‘They ain’t gonna believe until they see it,” Golesh told ESPN. “I felt like, ‘All right. They believe.'”

That belief is why USF is 2-0. The question is: How did Golesh get them to believe?

When Golesh met with then-USF athletic director Michael Kelly to discuss the open head coaching job in December 2022, he had questions. USF had moments of success in its short football history — including back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2016 and 2017 — but its more recent record was abysmal. The Bulls finished 2022 with a 1-11 record and four total victories over a three-year span. And the program had never won a conference title.

Golesh wanted to know right away — Would USF provide the resources required to win? Would they give him time to turn the program around? The answer to both was a resounding yes.

“His experience at other places showed what he felt he needed,” Kelly told ESPN. “I never felt it was unreasonable. It was just, ‘This is the way it is if we’re going to win this league.'”

Kelly said the staff size increased, and an additional $1.5 million was added to the assistant coach salary pool. The recruiting budget increased. Golesh also had the entire nutrition, strength and conditioning program and athletic training staff revamped.

Under the previous staff, for example, players got breakfast and lunch but no dinner at the facility. But now, they get three meals a day and have access to a nutrition bar in the weight room. Plus, there are fully stocked mini-fridges and snack baskets in every team meeting room.

There was no bigger sign of commitment to football than the approval of an on-campus $349 million football stadium, set to open in 2027, an idea that had been decades in the making. Most days, USF players practice to the sound of steel pillars going into the ground, just beyond the practice fields.

“It just goes together with what we’re doing on the football field, building a foundation,” quarterback Byrum Brown says. “We put the dirt down. We’re putting up poles. We’re seeing what this program can really be for years to come.”

Resources are one thing. Buy-in and belief are another. Center Cole Best remembers a meeting Golesh had with returning players during his second day on the job.

“He said, ‘I just need a little blind faith,'” Best said. “And I said, ‘I’m going to give it to him, and I’m going to buy into whatever this is. It was difficult at times, but I knew within his first couple of days here that, ‘This is the guy.'”

Sixth-year linebacker Mac Harris, who was on those three USF teams that won four total games before Golesh arrived, said those teams often found ways to cut corners, or avoided doing what was hard and uncomfortable.

Golesh’s Bulls don’t take the easy way out.

“AG says it all the time, leave no rock unturned. Check every detail, go through every obstacle you have to go through the right way,” Harris says. “Some people call them cliches, but they mean something, and they hold weight. I think doing that each and every day, and holding your teammates accountable to it, and them holding you accountable to it, created an expectation to win.”

In his first season as head coach, USF went 7-6, the second-best win improvement among all FBS programs in 2023. Then last season, USF showed glimpses of its potential, playing Alabama close for three quarters before losing, and then playing Miami close for a half before losing. Brown missed the final seven games of the season with a lower leg injury and USF still finished 7-6 and made it to another bowl game.

With a healthy Brown and 15 other starters back, Golesh and his team felt optimistic about the possibilities for this season.

Yes, the start to the 2025 season came up during his job interview, as Golesh was looking at future schedules with Kelly. He looked down and saw a three-game nonconference doozy: Boise State, at Florida, at Miami. There was initial skepticism. Not because Golesh wanted to shy away from playing those teams. But playing all three in a row, in the same season, seemed, well, “kinda crazy.”

“The initial conversation was, ‘We’ll handle that as we get there, but it won’t look like that,” Golesh said. “We got to last January, and it still looked like that, and I’m like, ‘You know what? Let’s go play them.”

Last June, when Kelly was getting ready to leave USF to take the athletic director job at Navy, Golesh told him, “We’re going to go win those games, and you’re going to tell me, ‘I told you so.'”

If the win over Boise State had people across the country take notice, the win over Florida legitimized USF in a bigger way. For decades, there has been the “Big Three” in the state of Florida: Miami, Florida State and Florida. UCF made it into a Power 4 conference when it joined the Big 12, leaving USF fighting for national relevance in the Group of 5.

That helps explain why Golesh had 500 text messages waiting for him after the 18-16 come-from-behind win over the Gators.

Best said he had eight former teammates call him after that win to congratulate him. “It brings tears to my eyes,” Best says. “I took a step back and let it all soak in. It hasn’t been easy. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, and to see it pay off, it just means the world.”

The process is the process, so there was no time this week for USF to celebrate a 2-0 start. Not with a trip to No. 5 Miami on deck. Golesh came into the office last Sunday and says he “ripped apart” the game tape with his staff.

“We haven’t arrived,” Golesh says. “We have two really good wins. We have another really good game, and then we’ve been really average in this conference for the last two years. We have so much left to do.

“As Amir used to say, ‘Headphones on. Hear nothing.”

There is a sadness in his voice as he recalls those conversations with Abdur-Rahim. They were supposed to be doing this together, celebrating each other’s wins as if they were their own. After Abdur-Rahim got sick last fall, he stopped coming around to practice but refused to tell Golesh what was wrong.

Then Golesh got a long text from Abdur-Rahim. He still has it saved in his phone. Abdur-Rahim wrote, in part, he was ready to fight what was ailing him, but seemed unsure whether doctors had any answers.

Abdur-Rahim died Oct. 24, 2024, at age 43, from complications that arose during a medical procedure related to his undisclosed illness. The loss was felt across the entire USF community, including the football team. As a lasting tribute to his friend, Golesh had a picture of Abdur-Rahim speaking to the team one day at practice enlarged and placed in the hallway of the football facility.

“Coach Golesh giving us a reminder of what a great human being he was, and what a great coach he was, and the lessons and advice that he instilled in us, it means a lot,” Brown says.

Golesh may not have responded to every single one of the hundreds of text messages he has received over the past two weeks. But there are two that he will never forget. Arianne Abdur-Rahim, Amir’s widow, texted Golesh after the Boise State win and again after the Florida win.

“Amir is looking out for you.”

US Might Start Holding Bitcoin as Strategic Asset, Galaxy Analyst Predicts

by admin September 11, 2025

  • Polymarket odds
  • Buying Bitcoin with tariff revenue?

Alex Thorn, head of firmwide research at Mike Novogratz’s Galaxy Digital, claims that there is a strong chance that the U.S. government will announce the formation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve (SBR) as early as this year.

This means that the U.S. government might formally hold Bitcoin as a strategic asset.

Thorn claims that the market is currently underpricing the probability of such an announcement.

Polymarket odds

According to Polymarket bettors, there is currently a minuscule 15% chance of the US setting a national Bitcoin reserve this year.

The market will resolve to “Yes” only if the US government buys additional coins on top of the confiscated ones.

You Might Also Like

It is worth noting that the US established the strategic Bitcoin reserve in March via an executive order, but it merely committed to stopping the sales of forfeited Bitcoins.

Earlier this year, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that US Bitcoin reserves stood at roughly $20 billion, but Thorn argues that this does not actually qualify as a formal announcement of the SBR.

Buying Bitcoin with tariff revenue?

As reported by U.Today, Fred Krueger, a former Wall Street quant, recently suggested that the U.S. could potentially acquire Bitcoin in the future with the help of tariff revenue.

Such a scenario would dramatically change the current supply-demand dynamics, but it remains rather far-fetched.

After stating that the U.S. government would not be buying Bitcoin, Bessent later clarified that there could be a budget-neutral avenue for future acquisitions. Bloomberg previously suggested that the Exchange Stabilization Fund (ESF) could potentially be used to buy Bitcoin.

Better for Battlefield 6 vehicles to start off “too weak”, says producer to players sore about tooled-up engineers

by admin September 10, 2025

In my experience, there are two kinds of tank in Battlefield games. There are the ones driven by other people, which are cut from solid granite yet move like ballet dancers. And then there are the ones driven by me, which are made out of candy floss and handle like shopping trolleys. Possibly, this reflects some kind of underlying “skill issue”, but come now, that’s speculative reporting that flies in the face of logic. Clearly it’s a balancing issue. Here’s Battlefield 6 lead producer David Sirland with a little more, based on learnings during the new shooter’s multiplayer beta.

You may have found that the tanks, helicopters, jeeps and jets on show in said Battlefield 6 beta were somewhat squishy, versus the hardiness of infantry and especially, engineers equipped with anti-tank mines and rockets. Responding to an aggrieved Xitter post (as reported by PCGamer), Sirland acknowledged that there’s a balancing issue here, but also, suggested that developers DICE, Ripple, Motive and Criterion may have lowballed the rides to begin with, in order to set a good foundation.

“That is a balance issue wholesale, not specific to this special situation however,” he wrote, when one user complained about the potency of said engineers and their dastardly munitions. “And one we are actively working on. Rather have too weak vehicles over too powerful to start. Its a tricky one as players get better at using them over time as well.”

I find this both funny and interesting. Funny because Battlefield 6 has made a drinking game out of slaughtering vehicles in trailers: those choppers certainly don’t seem fit for much besides blowing up. And interesting because it’s a quick glimpse into the ever-gripping intricacies of game balancing.

There is arguably no such thing as “good balance” inasmuch as balancing is an on-going process – developers have to keep adjusting the mixture to keep up with the ingenuity and quirks of clashing groups of players, while hazily targeting some kind of optimal all-round experience. Sirland’s aside has made me consider the prospect that developers might deliberately ship a game they consider ‘unbalanced’ because they’re trying to anticipate how player behaviour might evolve. They’re trying to balance for how people will be playing in a few month’s time, perhaps. A fearful gamble, indeed.

Add these insights to EA’s longer, official account of how they’re changing Battlefield 6 based on the beta playtest. There are vehicle-heavy maps coming in future Battlefield Labs playtests, so we can get another sense of the curiously variable sponginess of those tanks, which assuredly has nothing to do with the steadiness of my thumbs.

The final game will release on October 10th. The single player story sees the US army trying to save NATO from a rogue PMC, which I think is a bit daft given the current US administration’s foreign policies.

Crypto Market Prediction: XRP: $3 Too Early, SHIB Bull Run to Start at $0.000013? Ethereum Dominance Back at $4,350

by admin September 10, 2025

The market dominance of Ethereum should not be forgotten as the market-wide recovery affects SHIB and XRP, which are rallying forward and might see a bullish rally continuation starting from Sept. 10. Despite our previous gloomy market review, the overall state of the industry is becoming healthier.

Don’t forget Ethereum

At a time when many altcoins are still having difficulties, Ethereum (ETH) has once again reminded the market of its dominance and resilience. The fact that ETH, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, has recovered well from recent declines and is currently trading at about $4,372 shows that it still has the strength to influence overall market trends.

Following its ascent above the crucial $4,000 support zone, ETH steadied itself within a narrow range without ever displaying signs of weakness. By acting as a dependable floor and deterring bears, the 50-day EMA at $4,168 has offered a solid technical foundation for a recovery. Now that ETH is maintaining a strong hold above this level, traders are paying closer attention to a potential trend reversal that might push the token back toward the $4,600-$4,800 resistance zone.

ETH/USDT Chart by TradingView

Ethereum’s ability to hold its ground while Bitcoin consolidates is what makes this most recent move noteworthy. With ETH potentially leading the next bullish wave instead of just following BTC, this decoupling suggests a change in the market’s structure. This view is supported by the RSI, which is currently at 52, indicating that Ethereum has recovered from overbought conditions while still having a lot of room to rise.

Volume has stabilized, indicating steady participation without speculative blow-offs, despite not being as explosive as it was during the rally in July. This stability is crucial because Ethereum has the technical basis to stage another leg higher if inflows of new capital resume.

Ethereum’s recent performance is a reminder of its dominance on the cryptocurrency market. It is evident that the asset is far from depleted when it maintains above $4,000 and defends its moving averages. ETH may be the first significant altcoin to signal a significant market-wide reversal if the current momentum continues, reaffirming its position as the leader in price action and innovation in the digital asset space.

XRP takes its shot

XRP is pushing above $3.00 after recovering from the $2.77 support zone, indicating that it is once again showing signs of strength. This move appears promising at first glance, particularly given that the asset has tested and remained above important short-term moving averages.

However, given the state of the market, investors should exercise caution because what appears to be the beginning of a breakout could still be a dead cat bounce. From July highs around $3.80, the chart shows a distinct descending resistance line, which XRP is currently reapproaching. A stronger bullish case would be confirmed by breaking through, but history demonstrates that such levels frequently serve as a trap for eager buyers.

You Might Also Like

A quick retracement and another rejection could result from failing to maintain momentum at this point. The 50-day EMA at $3.07 is a potential immediate resistance level that heightens the caution. It is probable that sellers will reenter the market if XRP does not close significantly above it. A break below the 200-day EMA at $2.53 would turn the structure bearish once more, with the 100-day EMA at $2.78 serving as crucial support.

Momentum indicators lend credence to this cautious perspective. The RSI is at 55, slowly rising but not yet displaying a strong sense of bullishness. The current rally may not have the depth required for a long-lasting trend reversal, as evidenced by the muted volume, in contrast to the explosive rallies earlier this summer.

Even though XRP’s rise above $3.00 is positive, it is still much too soon to rejoice. Before announcing a win, traders should prepare for the possibility of rejection and revocation. The current move runs the risk of being little more than a brief bounce unless XRP can break its descending trendline with significant volume.

Shiba Inu speeds up

Following its breakout from a consolidation pattern, Shiba Inu’s rally is evidently picking up speed. After soaring past the $0.00001287-$0.00001297 resistance cluster created by the short-term moving averages, the token is now trading close to $0.00001307. Bulls now feel more confident, and the technical setup of SHIB has received more attention as a result of this breakout. SHIB appears well-positioned for future gains at its current levels.

The next significant test is the 200-day EMA at $0.00001386; a strong breakout above it might push the rally further toward the $0.00001500-$0.00001600 region, which was last observed in mid-August. Momentum indicators lend credence to this optimistic outlook: the RSI has increased to 55, indicating increasing buying interest without yet displaying overbought conditions. Additionally, the volume has increased, confirming that this rally has real momentum.

You Might Also Like

The longer-term structure has not changed much despite the short-term outlook appearing solid. SHIB is still trading well below the $0.00002000 levels, which marked the end of the summer rally, and the asset is still threatened by the larger downtrend that started following the 2021 highs. Though encouraging, the current breakout does not yet signify a significant change in Shiba Inu’s macro outlook.

The 200 EMA, which frequently serves as a major barrier, is another area where investors should be wary of possible volatility. If Shiba Inu does not make a strong push, there may be a retracement back toward the support level of $0.00001280. There is a strong technical setup for short-term traders to keep an eye on, and Shiba Inu’s bullish rally is accelerating at the current levels.

The current state of the market expresses some hope for bulls as multiple assets are showing signs of accumulation and might provide us with grounds for recovery sooner than anticipated. Risks of a bearish reversal are still there, though.

Josh Gad Confirms ‘Spaceballs 2’ to Start Filming

by admin September 8, 2025

Orlando Bloom may-or-may-not return as Legolas in The Hunt for Gollum, Macon Blair may-or-may-not direct a sequel to The Toxic Avenger starring Melanie Lynskey, and the stars of KPOP Demon Hunters may-or-may-not return for a sequel. Mondays, right? Morning Spoilers, ahoy!

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

Orlando Blood told the Today Show that he’d “hate to see anyone else play Legolas,” but hasn’t “heard a peep” if the character will appear in The Hunt for Gollum.

I have not heard a peep, actually. I don’t know. I know it’s focusing on Gollum, so anything’s possible. It’s such an amazing part. I’m so grateful to have been a part of those movies. But I haven’t heard. Listen, I’d hate to see anyone else play Legolas, you know what I mean? What are they going to do? Are they going to put somebody else in as Legolas?

The Toxic Avenger, Part 2?

Speaking with Deadline, director Macon Blair said he’d “love to” continue making Toxic Avenger movies, and that he already has Melanie Lynskey in mind for a potential villain.

I would love to do that, and I had been sort of thinking about if somebody were to ask me, what would be cool for adventures to go on with Toxie, but I think we have to see how this one lands first and see if anybody has an appetite for that and see what happens. But to answer your question, I would love it if that were the case…if there were a way that I could have gotten Melanie [Lynskey] in this movie, I would have tried to do that too. But maybe she’s the villain in part two or something like that. I don’t know.

Avengers: Doomsday

David Harbour told Screen Rant how “incredible” it feels being on the set of Avengers: Doomsday and to bare witness to “what’s his face doing that speech”.

I was not even convinced when we started, and this movie’s gonna be really good. They have a special sauce. I don’t even really understand, but they [the Russos] just know how to do these things. And I think that as evidenced in Civil War, as evidenced in Infinity War, there’s something about the layers in which they put the comedy and the drama and the surprises and the scale and the epicness and all that stuff. It’s incredible.

I will say I’ve never been on a set like this in my life. I’ve never seen anything like this. You saw those chairs. So it’s like, every one of those guys and girls has a trailer. It’s just insane to look around the room and be like, “Oh my god, I’m in the movie. There’s what’s his face doing that speech”. It’s just enormous.

Cliffhanger 2

According to Deadline, the upcoming Cliffhanger remake starring Lily James and Pierce Brosnan already has a sequel on the way.

KPOP Demon Hunters 2

In conversation with E! at the MTV Music Video Awards, KPOP Demon Hunters‘ star EJAE answered “Who knows, you know?” when asked about a potential sequel, prompting Audrey Nuna to add “we’re waiting for he call as well.” Rei Ami echoed their statements, adding, “As soon as we know, we’ll let you know.”

Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!

Variety reports that Media Capital Technologies and the Horror Section “are on board to fully finance and produce” a feature film based on Eli Roth and Snoop Dogg’s concept trailer, Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!

Spaceballs 2

Josh Gad confirmed to Collider that filming is about to begin on Spaceballs 2 in Australia.

I can’t believe it’s actually happening. I pitched it to Mel Brooks three years ago. The fact that we are at the end of pre-production… You’re the first person I’m telling this to: I’m leaving TIFF to fly to Australia to start shooting the movie.

We’re always hypersensitive to [leaks] and aware of it. We’re going to do, I would say, an even mix that would probably represent what Mel did on the first film. Because it is a Star Wars-esque film, it requires some Vista shots, which we’re doing, and it requires some spaceship shots, which we’re doing.

The Yeti

A group of strangers prepare for a siege battle with the titular monster in a clip from The Yeti, starring Brittany Allen, Eric Nelsen, Corbin Bernsen, Jim Cummings, Christina Bennett Lind, and William Sadler.

Teen Titans Go!

After voicing character Beast Boy for nearly 25 years, Deadline reports that Greg Cipes will no longer play the part after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The actor took to social media, saying he was “fired” from the role mere hours after publicly revealing his diagnosis. However, Deadline reported that “a source close to the animated series” suggested that “the role of Beast Boy in Teen Titans Go! was [already] in the process of being recast due to creative differences,” and that the long-running series apparently offered Cipes a different character to play, instead.

Smiling Friends

Finally, Adult Swim has released a trailer for the third season of Smiling Friends premiering this October 5.

Now Playing: Borderlands 4 | Official Launch Week Trailer

Borderlands 4 will cost $70 when it launches, which is notable because there was a period of time when Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford claimed he did not know the price, prompting fears that it could be $80. Pitchford stoked the conversation around pricing by saying “real fans” would find a way to come up with $80 if that was the case.

Pitchford is so confident in Borderlands 4’s pricing strategy that he recently said he believes the game would be “worth it” at five times the price of entry.

While the standard edition is priced at $70, 2K and Gearbox are offering multiple more expensive editions of the game, including a $100 deluxe edition, a $130 super deluxe edition, and a $150 collector’s edition. For more, be sure to consult GameSpot’s Borderlands 4 preorder guide to find the version that’s right for you.

Amazon’s God of War TV series will finally start filming early next year, new report claims

by admin September 6, 2025

Amazon’s God of War TV series will commence filming in March 2026.

That’s according to Nexuspointnews, which reports the filming of the series – which will follow Kratos’ “dangerous journey with his estranged son” to fulfil his wife’s dying wishes and “spread [her] ashes from the highest peak” – is finally slated to kick off in Vancouver, Canada, next March.

Sources told the site that casting for the show is “currently underway”.

Amazon initially announced its God of War adaptation back in December 2022. Series showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, recently revealed the adaptation will remain largely faithful to Sony Santa Monica’s 2018 game, though it won’t be a frame-by-frame remake.

“This world and this universe are really rich, and it’s interesting, and it’s really been fun to adapt,” Moore explained at the time. “It’s an adaptation, so it’s an adaptation-slash-interpretation as you go into live-action, and it’s been really fun to sort of go, ‘Wow, there’s a lot here we can play with. Okay, we want to keep the story. We want to keep the characters and the spirit of it’. There’s all this stuff that you can keep turning to for inspiration.”

Moore joined the production almost two years after its was confirmed to be in the works after the series based on Sony Santa Monica’s God of War series reportedly had a “do-over” after the companies involved decided on a “different creative direction”. Despite the early issues, though, a second season has been greenlit at Amazon.

Chargers expect RB Najee Harris to start vs. Chiefs

by admin September 3, 2025

SAO PAULO — Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris, who missed all of training camp because of an eye injury sustained in a fireworks mishap, is expected to start in Friday’s season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday.

Harris was listed as having fully participated in practice.

“He says he’s ready, and he looks ready to go,” Harbaugh said. “Really hard to predict play counts. He’s going to play football and have at it. That’s the mindset.”

Harris was on the field with his teammates Wednesday for a light on-field work session just hours after the team arrived in São Paulo. In front of hundreds of reporters, Harris once again wore a helmet with a tinted visor, which he has done whenever he has practiced in front of the public this summer.

Harris said Monday that he didn’t care what people think he might be doing based on the perception that he could be wearing shades to hide what he calls a “superficial” injury. He has participated in just six practices with the Chargers.

“I’m ramping up to it, just trying to get back in that football shape,” Harris said Monday. “But I am feeling good, though, and we’ll just see where it leads.”

Nolan McLean dominates Tigers, makes Mets history with 4-0 start

by admin September 3, 2025

DETROIT — Rookie Nolan McLean continued his brilliant start to his MLB career, retiring his final 14 batters Tuesday night to lead the Mets to a 12-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

McLean became the first Mets pitcher to go 4-0 in his first four starts, and just the first pitcher in the majors to do so since Chase Anderson, who started 5-0 with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2014.

After a rocky first inning, McLean finished with seven strikeouts while giving up two runs on three hits and three walks. He is the first pitcher to win his first four career starts while allowing two or fewer runs in each start since Jered Weaver, who did it in his first seven starts for the Los Angeles Angels in 2006.

“Another impressive outing for him,” manager Carlos Mendoza said. “We all saw how in that first inning, especially the sweeper and the curveball … he didn’t have command of those pitches. A couple of walks, and they got him with a couple of singles there. That’s what you call pitching. Understanding that you have to make adjustments and find a way to get through five or six innings, and he was able to do that.”

Mendoza added: “Another really good sign for a kid that is just making his fourth start at the big league level.”

McLean’s 28 strikeouts through his first four starts ranks second in Mets history behind only Nolan Ryan (29).

Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, who homered twice Tuesday night, said McLean’s work ethic has a lot to do with the incredible start to his career.

“I know everyone’s going to be talking about all the great stuff he’s doing on the field, which is for sure warranted, but how he’s going about his business, the day to day, it’s super impressive,” Alonso said.

“And that’s the reason why he’s able to do what he’s been able to do on the field. … He’s been a pro since he’s come up, and there’s no shock and awe for why he’s found his success.”

Juan Soto and Luis Torrens also homered for the Mets, who won the series opener 10-8 on Monday. New York moved five games ahead of Cincinnati for the final National League wild card.

The American League Central-leading Tigers have lost seven of nine.

Alonso’s first homer was a 435-foot drive in the first inning that landed between the first and second row of shrubs behind the center-field wall. Soto and Alonso hit back-to-back solo shots in a six-run seventh that gave the Mets a 12-2 cushion.

Soto has 37 home runs in his first season with New York, including five homers in the past five games. Alonso’s second homer was his 33rd of the year.

Jeff McNeil drove in three runs and finished with three of New York’s 17 hits. Brandon Nimmo and Brett Baty also had three hits for the Mets.

Information from The Associated Press and ESPN Research was used in this report.

XRP Holds $2.80 Support as Whales Accumulate Nearly $1B: Could this Be Start to $4?

by admin September 1, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

XRP has managed to hold its $2.80 support despite a sharp 4% drop over the past 24 hours, falling from $2.85 to $2.75 in the Aug. 31–Sept. 1 trading session.

The sell-off was fueled by institutional liquidations totaling $1.9 billion since July, but whale investors took the opposite stance, scooping up 340 million XRP worth nearly $962 million during the dip.

This accumulation suggests that large holders view current prices as a strategic entry point, even as short-term traders exit positions. Data also shows $268 million in XRP leaving exchanges, reinforcing the view that long-term investors are tightening supply in anticipation of future gains.

Technical Setup Points XRP Toward $4

From a technical perspective, XRP’s immediate support lies between $2.75–$2.77, with resistance seen at $2.80–$2.87. Analysts note that a close above $2.87 could open the path toward $3.30, a critical breakout zone that could trigger further momentum.

Momentum indicators back the bullish case. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) has dipped into oversold territory, while MACD compression hints at a potential bullish crossover.

On the charts, XRP is consolidating inside a symmetrical triangle pattern, similar to formations that preceded explosive rallies in 2017. Liquidity maps show clusters of activity extending to $4.00, indicating possible targets if the breakout materializes.

Whales Diverge From Institutional Selling

The contrasting behavior between whales and institutions is shaping market dynamics. While institutions have offloaded nearly $2 billion in XRP since July, whale absorption of 340 million tokens suggests confidence in the token’s longer-term trajectory.

Funding rates have also flipped positive, and open interest in XRP derivatives now stands above $8 billion, signaling that traders are positioning for upward moves. If buying pressure holds and September’s seasonal weakness is overcome, XRP could mount a recovery rally toward the $4 region.

Bottom Line

XRP’s ability to defend $2.80, supported by nearly $1 billion in whale accumulation, strengthens the case for a potential breakout. If resistance levels fall, a run toward $4 may be closer than many expect, though September volatility and regulatory headwinds remain key risks.
