Bearing in mind this is the Chinese model (there’s no word on a global edition yet), I was unable to test all of the functionality, but I have a good idea what will work here and what doesn’t. I love the time and notifications, because I don’t have to pick up my phone as much when it’s face down on the desk and I’m working.

The customizable themes and pets are fun. It’s an opportunity to add a little more personality to your phone. While the real-time updates work only with select Chinese apps right now, the utility is clear, and the music controls are very handy. The selfie preview is an obvious benefit, as the photos you can take with the main camera far surpass those taken with any front-facing camera.

I’m also excited about the pin function. You know that awkward dance you do when you’re queuing? You have the QR code that they’ll scan in a minute open on your phone, but you want to continue reading or messaging. Well, this allows you to pin it on the back display and get on with what you’re doing. While I wasn’t able to test it, I know this will be handy.

As a big retro gaming fan, I love the look and feel of the case, and it automatically connects via Bluetooth and triggers the game mode. But once I got over the novelty, I was left wondering why I would ever want to play a game on a tiny screen interrupted by camera lenses when I have one of the most gorgeous 6.7-inch phone displays I’ve ever used in my hand. I tried Angry Birds 2, and it’s totally playable on the back display, but just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

Naturally, the 17 Pro Max is a specs beast, and the 17 Pro isn’t far behind. Both are powered by Qualcomm’s brand-new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, and my review unit has 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. The displays feature Xiaomi’s new M10 display technology, and it is sharp and power-efficient, and it gets very bright.

Borderlands 4 PC Specs Revealed, Alongside Graphics Settings And Accessibility Features

Gearbox has disclosed the PC specs for Borderlands 4. The specs were shared by 2K on the Borderlands 4 website, covering both minimum and recommended. 2K also disclosed the numerous PC-specific settings that players can choose from, along with a range of accessibility features.

For the minimum specs, 2K said players who meet the standards can run Borderlands 4 with “solid performance on older PC hardware.” The recommended PC specs, meanwhile, provide “the intended experience for Borderlands 4,” 2K said. These settings strike a balance between performance and graphics, 2K said.

In other news, Gearbox disclosed its post-launch plans for Borderlands 4, but if you want the new Vault Hunters then you’ll have to pay for the $130 Super Deluxe Edition. It’s currently unclear if Gearbox will sell the new additions as standalone DLC. There will also be additional storylines and side missions as well Bounty Packs that introduce new areas and missions that will lead to unique boss fights and the chance to earn more loot. Bounty Packs will be included with both the Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions.

Many Battlefield 6 Fans Played Beta Using Minimum Specs, Says EA

According to EA, the Battlefield 6 play test is the biggest beta in Battlefield’s history in terms of players. Research firm Oppenheimer estimated that the beta reached more than 20 million people. However, a “substantial number” of those fans may have been playing Battlefield 6 with the minimum recommended specs.

Battlefield 6 technical director Christian Buhl made that assertion during an interview with Eurogamer. Buhl also noted that EA and DICE planned from the beginning to ensure that players using lower-end hardware would still receive a comparable experience to those on high-end machines.

“Min spec is certainly one of our most important specs … it’s super important from both a commercial and business perspective,” said Buhl. “We want as many people as possible playing the game … We did a lot of analysis, we did tests on the game on a wide range of hardware above and below our minimum and recommended specs. We figured out what we can hit, what we need to hit from a business perspective, and that was to capture a wide audience on PC. It’s been super critical.”

In the same interview, Buhl addressed the game’s unpopular secure boot requirement, which he says is critical to fighting cheaters.

“The fact is I wish we didn’t have to do things like Secure Boot,” said Buhl. “It does prevent some players from playing the game. Some people’s PCs can’t handle it and they can’t play: that really sucks. I wish everyone could play the game with low friction and not have to do these sorts of things … Unfortunately these are some of the strongest tools in our toolbox to stop cheating.”

EA has shared the PC specs for Battlefield 6, as well as some upcoming changes to based on player feedback from the beta. Battlefield 6 launches on October 10 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Battlefield 6 dev says “a significant number” of users played the game below the minimum recommended specs, as EA points to the importance of weaker hardware

A “substantial number” of Battlefield 6 open beta players were playing on or around the minimum recommended specs, according to technical director Christian Buhl.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Bulh broke down some user data for the initial wave of PC players who hopped into the game earlier this month, stating that of the “millions of players” who were jumping in, a sizable portion of them were doing so on lower-end hardware.

Speaking about some of the lengths Battlefield Studios and EA went to to ensure the game was playable by those on older setups, Buhl stated: “We built maps, and had to go to our artists and tech artists to adjust these maps so they were more performant. We’ve put in a lot of effort across the board to make sure these performance targets were set, and whether you’re on min spec or ultra spec you’re going to get the experience we’re targeting.”

When asked how important it is to serve minimum spec players at a time when PC hardware is getting more expensive, due to bloated prices or general economic challenges right now, Buhl responded by saying: “Min spec is certainly one of our most important specs […] it’s super important from both a commercial and business perspective – we want as many people as possible playing the game.”

Buhl continued with an anecdote from earlier in the game’s development: “We did a lot of analysis, we did tests on the game on a wide range of hardware above and below our minimum and recommended specs. When asked what percentage of players were playing at or around that min spec, Buhl could not recall the exact number, dubbing it a “meaningful percentage”. He also noted a number of players below the minimum spec, emphasizing the existence of this group.

The current state of affordable computing in the USA, Battlefield 6’s primary market, is one of turmoil. Not only has a cost-of-living crisis made the price tag on high end hardware unpalatable for a sizable number of gaming enthusiasts, ongoing political policy has had a drastic impact on international trade.

Buhl also spoke to Eurogamer about the anti-cheat used in Battlefield 6, it’s ability to curb a sizable portion of cheaters during the betas, and the reality that some players weren’t able to play due to Secure Boot requirements. Nonetheless, this beta proved exceptionally popular, taking the title as most popular Battlefield beta of all time.

With the current crop of consoles from Microsoft and Sony nearing the end of their natural product cycles, tech rumours are abound as to what hardware and systems the next generation will have. Amongst a whole raft of claims as to what the PlayStation 6 will be like are a list of specifications for Sony’s return to the handheld market, with a beefy custom AMD chip at the heart of it all.

Now, before I go any further, let me get one thing out of the way first, and it’s the source of these claims: Moore’s Law is Dead. The tech YouTube channel’s modus operandi is all about rumours, leaks, speculation, and at times, pretty wild predictions. But hey, even if you spray about in a raging gale, something will eventually land on target.

On to the nitty-gritty, then. MLID claims Sony is planning a handheld PlayStation for its PS6 portfolio. Not a major shock announcement, as the company has done this before. Something else that won’t raise any eyebrows is that it’s apparently going to be powered by a custom AMD chip, codenamed Canis.

The specs for it, though, are a tad more of a surprise. Manufactured on TSMC’s N3 process node and coming in at 135 square millimetres in size, the CPU size of Canis is alleged to have four Zen 6c cores and two Zen 6 Low Power cores. That’s a little bit like AMD’s Ryzen AI 340, which sports two Zen 5 and four Zen 5c cores. However, unlike that laptop APU, MLID is suggesting that games will run on the 6c pipelines, with the handheld’s operating system being handled by the two LP cores.

There are no architectural differences between AMD’s normal Zen and Zen-c cores (at least, not in Zen 5) other than what clock speeds they can reach, but given that it’s also being claimed that the ‘PS6 handheld’ will be backwards compatible with PS5/PS4 games, I’m not sure how four, low-clocked cores are supposed to handle software designed for up to eight cores.

And that’s before one begins to question why Sony would choose to go with an architecture that AMD hasn’t released yet, when it’s historically chosen an older design that’s well-tested, proven, and predictable. Oh, and cheap. Very cheap.

Moving onto the GPU section of the APU, Canis is supposed to have 16 RDNA 5 compute units. To put this into perspective, the Steam Deck has eight RDNA 2 CUs, and the Asus ROG Ally X has 12 RDNA 3 CUs, so the compute unit count isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

However, just as with the CPU section, I’m not overly convinced that Sony would go for what would be a cutting-edge GPU architecture for the release. Even the expensive PS5 Pro is still using what’s fundamentally an RDNA 2-powered GPU, albeit with some hefty modifications.

Where things get a bit silly are the claimed clock speeds and performance for the handheld’s GPU: around 1.65 GHz in docked mode and up to 75% of a PS5’s native rendering power. Sony’s current console has a GPU with 36 CUs, with a top clock speed of 2.2 GHz, and requires a power budget of 180 W.

While RDNA 5 rumours have yet to settle down into any semblance of sensibility, no amount of architectural wizardry can really overcome a 56% deficit in CUs with a 25% short fall in clock speed to that kind of degree. Well, perhaps it can, if the rendering resolution is low enough or the actual graphics workload leans more towards favouring AMD’s current shader design than for RDNA 2.

Just as with many handheld gaming PCs, Sony’s effort will apparently use LPDDR5X-8533, but rather than using a 128-bit wide bus, Canis is purported to sport a 192-bit bus, resulting in the total amount of RAM reaching 48 GB. That’s not impossible, as handhelds really do benefit from having considerably more than 16 GB of RAM, as it’s shared across the CPU and GPU.

Having watched MLID go through the specs, I was unconvinced by the CPU description, on the fence by the GPU (but not at all by the performance claims), and reasonably okay with the RAM specs. However, it wouldn’t be a MLID video if there wasn’t at least one really bonkers prediction, and in this instance, it’s the price: between $399 and $499.

The Switch 2’s retail price is $450, and it is a far weaker collection of hardware, with the main SoC manufactured on an old, cheap process node. Top-end handheld gaming PCs that are more akin to the above claimed specs are typically double the cost. Heck, even the PlayStation Portal is $200 and there’s practically nothing inside that beyond a basic Qualcomm chip, a smattering of RAM, and a pokey 16 Wh battery.

Sony wouldn’t set the price that low for a platform that isn’t going to sell anywhere near as many units as a normal console. It can afford to get away with a tiny profit margin with the PS5 because it hauls the money back via the millions of games sold each year for the console. A PS6 handheld would have to be physically profitable, and given that the specs are all next-gen architecture, on an expensive process node, $500 would surely be nowhere near enough.

Anyway, you can make up your own mind about MLID’s claims about the handheld or the other PS6 bits and pieces. Better yet, you can play your own game of ‘Guess the next-gen console specs’ and make a video of it, because everyone’s predictions will be just as valid as each other until the hardware itself finally appears.

Full iPhone 17 Lineup Specs: Comparing the Latest Rumored Info

While we typically wait until phones are actually released to compare them, Apple’s next iPhone models are so highly anticipated that we’ll make an exception. We’re basing our comparisons on the most credible rumors of what’s coming in the iPhone 17 series, including a potential super-thin iPhone 17 Air, to give readers an early sense of how the new series of phones may look.

Last year’s iPhone 16 series added a handful of upgrades over its predecessors, most notably the new Camera Control key. While the basic iPhone 16 and Plus models got a new ultrawide camera and bigger battery, as is typical with Apple’s phones, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max got the lion’s share of the improvements with upgraded rear cameras, pro video recording modes and thinner bezels.

Last year’s iPhone upgrades are a template for what we expect in the iPhone 17 — here’s how we anticipate those comparisons to shake out.

iPhone 17 lineup price comparison

Apple will hold its iPhone 17 launch event on Sept. 9, with the tagline “Awe dropping” — and since its cutesy mantras usually hint at products being released, there’s plenty of speculation going around as to its meaning. The iPhone always goes on sale the Friday of the week after it’s announced, which should be Friday, Sept. 12, though Apple could always change it.

The iPhone 17 prices are up in the air, mainly due to tariffs. Increased costs of imports mean Apple could raise iPhone price tags, with Jefferies analyst Edison Lee predicting a $50 price hike across the lineup aside from the base iPhone 17 model. If that’s the case, then anticipated US starting prices could be as follows:

iPhone 17: $829 — Rumors suggest the baseline iPhone 17 won’t get as aggressive of tariff hikes, but market fluctuations could bump the price up slightly.
iPhone 17 Air: $979 — If the iPhone 17 Air is slotted into the lineup where the iPhone 16 Plus was priced (as the more expensive standard model), and with the rumored tariff hikes, its price could creep to nearly four figures.
iPhone 17 Pro: $1,049 — Rumors suggest the smaller Pro model could get a small price hike to start at $50 above last year’s iPhone 16 Pro.
iPhone 17 Pro Max: $1,249 — Likewise, the higher-spec iPhone 17 Pro Max may get the same $50 price hike.

iPhone 17 lineups’ design and display changes, compared

iPhone 17: Camera bump redesign — Rumors suggest that the square-shaped camera bump from prior years will give way to a vertical pill-shaped ovoid with the usual two cameras (main and ultrawide).
iPhone 17 Air: Thinner, single-camera — Leaked CAD renders suggest the new, thin model will take the place of the iPhone 16 Plus as the larger non-Pro model, but could differ in only a single main rear camera. Unlike the standard iPhone 17, the CAD suggests this will have a horizontal camera bump.
iPhone 17 Pro: Larger horizontal camera bump — Rumors suggest the smaller Pro model won’t have any big changes aside from its rear cameras, which will be in their same offset three-lens triangle configuration but with a wide horizontal bump that extends the width of the phone.
iPhone 17 Pro Max: Same larger horizontal camera bump — Likewise, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may just differ from last year’s model in a camera bump that extends horizontally across the entire rear width of the phone.

The biggest change we expect in the iPhone 17’s design is in a single model potentially added to the lineup: the iPhone 17 Air. Following plenty of rumors, the Air would be a thinner model of the iPhone line, akin to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which would focus on a slimmer, lighter body that might have reduced battery life as a consequence. CNET Senior Reporter Abrar Al-Heeti found that with the S25 Edge. The Air could take the place of the larger Plus model in the iPhone 17 lineup, though whether that means the thinner phone is also bigger than the standard model is far from certain.

We’ve also heard rumors that the iPhone 17 line could swap from the square camera block it’s used for years to more of a pill-shaped camera bar that runs across the width of the phone’s body. Leaker Majin Bu posted a leaked image and CAD renders on X that show a differently shaped camera setup for each phone. And case-maker Dbrand is preselling an iPhone 17 Pro Tank case that shows off the wider camera bump as well.

A Bloomberg report in April affirmed that other than the camera block, the iPhone 17 lineup will look much like last year’s phones, at least as far as rumors go, with the standard iPhone 17, Pro and Pro Max models largely unchanged from their iPhone 16 predecessors.

Assuming Apple isn’t changing the sizes of the smartphones, expect the iPhone 17 to have a 6.1-inch display, the iPhone 17 Pro to get a 6.3-inch screen and the iPhone 17 Pro Max a 6.9-inch display. The iPhone 17 Air’s size is uncertain, but Apple does have a tendency to retain phone sizes for years (just look at the iPhone SE line using the same display dimensions as the iPhone 6), so if the new thin phone has the same dimensions as the iPhone 16 Plus, it could have a 6.7-inch display.

Another display rumor suggests that Apple will close a feature gap between the baseline and pro models by making all phones have a maximum 120Hz refresh rate (prior lineups have kept the cheaper phones at 60Hz).

iPhone 17: No changes — Rumors haven’t hinted at anything changing in the iPhone 17 from the 48-megapixel main camera and 12-megapixel ultrawide in last year’s iPhone 16.
iPhone 17 Air: Single camera — CAD renders suggest the iPhone 17 Air will have a single camera, presumably the 48-megapixel main camera found on the iPhone 16E.
iPhone 17 Pro: Improved zoom camera — While not widely corroborated, one rumor suggests the Pro models will get an up to 8x zoom camera, up from the 5x telephoto found in last year’s iPhone 16 Pro. It would presumably inherit its predecessor’s 48-megapixel main and 48-megapixel ultrawide cameras.
iPhone 17 Pro Max: Improved zoom camera — Likewise, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could get a better telephoto camera and keep its predecessor’s 48-megapixel main and 48-megapixel ultrawide cameras.

We expect the usual feature gap to split the iPhone 17 generation, with the standard iPhone 17 having two cameras (48-megapixel main and 12-megapixel ultrawide) while the Pro and Pro Max models bump the ultrawide to 48 megapixels and also include a third telephoto camera (presumably the 12-megapixel with 5x optical zoom inherited from last year’s iPhones). One of the wildest rumors is that the 17 Pro and Pro Max will have 8x telephoto cameras. The report comes from MacRumors and mentions the lens having moving elements for continuous optical zoom at various focal lengths (think Sony Xperia 1 V).

Rumors suggest the fourth model — possibly the iPhone 17 Air — will only have one camera, which would likely be a 48-megapixel main shooter similar to the iPhone 16E. That would set it apart from last year’s iPhone 16 Plus, which had the same two cameras as the standard iPhone 16.

The only other significant camera rumor suggests that the front-facing shooters on all the phones will be upgrading to 24-megapixel cameras, up from 12 megapixels on last year’s phones.

The iPhone 17 line will run iOS 26.

iPhone 17 Pro Max: New CPU, bigger battery — Similarly, rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Pro Max is anticipated to pack an A19 chip and potentially the C1 modem, as well as a slightly larger battery.

As is typical with the feature gap between standard and pro models, rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max (as well as the Air) will get the newest A19 chip, while the regular iPhone 17 will get the same A18 chip that powered last year’s iPhone 16.

It’s unclear if the new phones will get another tech advancement — Apple’s C1 chip, the internally developed 5G modem that debuted in the iPhone 16E released earlier this year. Presumably, the company will want to bring it to the new iPhone 17 lineup, but we haven’t heard rumors suggesting so.

While Apple never explicitly says how much RAM its iPhones pack, most phones require 8GB of RAM to use AI features — and given Apple Intelligence debuted on the iPhone 16 lineup, it’s heavily suspected that those devices were given 8GB of RAM. Presumably, the iPhone 17 series will have the same amount.

There’s also no reason to believe Apple will switch up its storage options. The standard iPhone 17 will likely be offered in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB tiers, while the iPhone 17 Pro should have those and a 1TB version. The iPhone 17 Pro Max will likely only have 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options.

The batteries of the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro aren’t expected to change, though a leak suggests the iPhone 17 Pro Max could expand its capacity to 5,000 mAh, up from the 4,685 mAh on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The big question will be the size of the iPhone 17 Air’s battery, which will almost surely be smaller due to the thinner body; by comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge only has a 3,900 mAh capacity.

All iPhones will almost surely launch with iOS 26, the next version of Apple’s iPhone software that was renamed to align with the year following its release.

Battlefield 6 PC Specs And Launch Features Revealed

Hot off the heels of a very successful open beta, EA has revealed the PC specs for Battlefield 6. These features promise to deliver “the most advanced PC experience in franchise history.”

When Battlefield 6 hits PC on October 10, it will boast 4K graphics with uncapped frame rate and ultrawide monitor support. Players can tinker with over 600 customization options such as HDR and HUD scaling, camera settings, controller schemes, and streamer/Incognito modes. The game also includes native Steam platform support.

In terms of hardware support, Nvidia confirms Battlefield 6 features support for DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, DLAA, and NVIDIA Reflex.

The game also utilizes Javelin anti-cheat software, built from the ground up to solely safeguard against cheats and hacks “within and outside of kernel mode.”
