Hollow Knight Silksong ‘Special Announcement’ Set For August 21

by admin August 19, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong has been so anticipated for so many years that it’s become a meme, crowding the chat of every major game showcase of the last seven years. While we’ve had recent glimpses, like the announcement that it was coming to Switch 2, we haven’t heard a concrete update from Team Cherry since its announcement that it wouldn’t be releasing in 2023. This week, that will finally change.

Team Cherry’s official YouTube channel has a premiere set for Thursday, August 21, at 10:30 AM ET/ 7:30 AM PT. Its title reads, “Hollow Knight: Silksong – Special Announcement,” while the caption simply reads, “The countdown is on! Join us in 48 hours for a special announcement about Hollow Knight: Silksong!” It is unclear what exactly this announcement will involve, but fans are mostly just hoping for a release date.

Despite the general lack of information, Silksong is playable at this year’s Gamescom, according to Xbox, and it will be available on Microsoft’s ROG ALLY device, so we’re expecting some kind of announcement during Opening Night Live in a few hours. Geoff Keighley seemed to support this by posting a photo with a clown nose, potentially referencing the meme of Hollow Knight’s protagonist in clown attire that’s posted whenever we don’t get news about its sequel.

However, partnered with this announcement is a series of Bluesky posts from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who is known for accurately digging up information from behind the scenes of the games industry. Not only does he claim to have “the story behind why Silksong took seven years to make,” citing a video call he did with Team Cherry’s founders earlier this month, he also says, “No, Silksong’s release date will not be announced today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, despite Geoff Keighley’s teasing.” Team Cherry’s Thursday announcement will come after Opening Night Live, however, so there’s a chance we might get a date then. While Schreier has a solid track record in this line of work, none of this is confirmed, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Regardless of when it drops or what this trailer will bring, people will be there to watch it. With 15,000 in the YouTube audience a full 47 hours before it even happens, it’s safe to say this is one of the most anticipated games of the decade. Here’s hoping Team Cherry gives them something to get excited about.

The news of a “Special Announcement” on Silksong comes after speculation (not unwarranted) that the game would be shown off during Gamescom ONL tonight, with a release date potentially being revealed.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier‬ posted on Bluesky to confirm that Silksong would not be having its release date revealed tonight:

“No, Silksong’s release date will not be announced today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, despite Geoff Keighley’s teasing,” read the post.

$80 for Borderlands 4 too costly? Randy Pitchford says, "If you're a real fan, you'll find a way to make it happen"
Game Updates

Borderlands 4 special editions and price confirmed (and it won’t cost $80)

by admin June 16, 2025

With Borderlands 4’s September release inching closer, publisher Take-Two has announced pricing and a variety of special editions for the shooter. And there’s good news for anyone worried an $80 price tag might be on the cards following all that recent hoo-ha; the standard edition does not, it turns out, cross Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford’s “real fan” threshold.

Pitchford, of course, raised more than a few eyebrows last month, when he implied potential customers not willing to spend $80 on Borderlands 4 (amid a hypothetical discussion of its price tag) weren’t ‘real fans’. His statement – that “real fans” would find a way to get their hands on a copy of the game, even if it came with a $80 price tag – did not go down well, and Pitchford later attempted to justify his comments in a longer video. Unfortunately, he then followed that up with another ill-conceived social media post irritated fans quickly branded “tone-deaf”.

But it turns out Pitchford could probably have avoided needlessly annoying the Borderlands community if he’d just held fire a little longer. Take-Two has now confirmed Borderlands 4 will, in fact, cost $70 for the standard edition of the game – but the full story is a little more complicated given regional pricing, variations in platform pricing, and the usual scrum of special editions offering various strands of Borderlands stuff.

PC is where you’ll pick up Borderlands 4 cheapest; the standard edition costs £59.99 on Steam and Epic, and you’ll be paying £69.99 for the same version on Xbox Series X/S and PS5. That then climbs to £89.99 for the Deluxe Edition (which I suppose is now technically the Real Fan Edition given the price) and £119.99 for the Super (Fan?) Deluxe Edition.

And in case you’re wondering what the difference is, the Deluxe Edition features the game, the Bounty Pack Bundle (which includes four post-launch DLC packs promising new areas, missions, and bosses), plus Vault Cards containing more challenges and rewards, new gear and weapons, four new vehicles, Vault Hunter cosmetics, and the Firehawk’s Fury Weapon Skin.

The Super Deluxe Edition, meanwhile, includes all the above, plus the Ornate Order Pack (featuring Vault Hunter Skins, four Vault Hunter Heads and four Vault Hunter Bodies), and the Vault Hunter Pack. This latter includes two post-launch Story Packs, each bringing a new Vault Hunter, new story and side missions, new map regions, new gear and weapons, plus additional Vault Hunter and ECHO-4 cosmetics.

So to recap, Borderlands 4 – now with less toilet humour! – launches for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on 12th September. But for something a little bit different, why not check out Connor’s investigation into the community of archivists racing to revive a dead Borderlands MMO.

Elon Musk Bids Adieu During Final Days as Special Government Employee at DOGE

by admin May 29, 2025

In brief

  • Musk confirmed Wednesday he is stepping down from DOGE, the Trump administration agency he co-founded to fight federal waste.
  • His exit, expected by May’s end due to Special Government Employee limits, leaves the agency without either of its original figureheads.
  • Despite claiming $175 billion in savings, DOGE has faced backlash over inflated figures, partisan clashes, and a spending surge that Musk says undermines its mission.

Elon Musk confirmed Wednesday that he is stepping down from his position at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the Trump agency he helped launch to combat federal waste.

“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk posted on X. “The DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”

The move was widely expected. As a Special Government Employee, Musk was capped at 130 working days per year—a threshold he was projected to reach by May 30. His departure leaves the agency—initially co-led by himself and fellow billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, who left in January—without either of its original public faces.

DOGE, named in part as a nod to Musk’s favored crypto Dogecoin, was created to address what Musk termed the “existential” threat of national debt. Its team claims to have saved $175 billion through government cuts, though that figure has been widely disputed.

Musk’s government involvement has paralleled his broader shift toward political activism, which has often drawn criticism. His leadership of DOGE coincided with a spate of scandals and partisan clashes, including lawsuits and public rebukes from figures such as Senator Elizabeth Warren, who called the initiative a “venue for corruption.”

DOGE’s efforts have also been stymied by Trump’s recent spending spree, with Musk saying a massive new spending bill “undermines” DOGE’s mission.

Reining it in

The fallout of Musk’s dalliance with the White House has hit his companies hard. Tesla, for instance, has seen plunging sales, employee unrest, and brand damage. Pension fund leaders have recently urged Tesla’s board to rein in Musk’s extracurricular activities and demand greater focus on the EV company.

Rumours in April that he would step down from DOGE sent stocks in his companies soaring.

“DOGE is just becoming the whipping boy for everything,” Musk told the Washington Post yesterday. “People were burning Teslas. Why would you do that? That’s really uncool.”

This week, however, has marked new developments at his companies. The launch of Starship Flight 9 by SpaceX yesterday saw the rocket reach space before it broke apart, with the ship traveling further than the company’s previous two attempts.

Also this week, Neuralink raised $600 million at a $9 billion valuation. At the same time, X also unveiled “X Money,” a very limited-access beta digital wallet linked to the platform and part of a long-term push to create an all-in-one app.

While Musk indicated on a Tesla earnings call in April that he would reduce his time spent on politics and dedicate more attention to his businesses, he isn’t out of politics for good.

He has signaled continued ties to the Trump administration, retaining a small White House office and committing to “a day or two per week” of government work.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting special 10th anniversary Xbox controllers

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting special 10th anniversary Xbox controllers

by admin May 22, 2025

CD Projekt has teamed up with Microsoft to create some fancy new Witcher 3-themed Xbox controllers to celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary – which I really can’t quite believe because I personally haven’t aged a day.

The controllers – officially known as the ‘Xbox Wireless Controller – The Witcher 3 10th Anniversary Special Edition’ and the ‘Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core The Witcher 3 10th Anniversary Special Edition’ – are described as being “tempered and battle-ready”, and promise “intricately crafted details”.

They feature The Witcher 3’s wolf medallion iconography, as well as Glagolitic script. I personally don’t know what the script says, but apparently it can be translated and those symbols “are not random”. If you work out what it means, please let me know.

Away from the cosmetic sides of things, these chaps also boast all the features you’d expect from an Xbox controller. So, rubberised back grips, remappable controller inputs, Bluetooth support and so on. You can check how they look in the video above.

They’ve been created by CD Projekt’s own designers, with Gabriela Pešková from CD Projekt and Mekias Bekalu from Xbox calling this “such a special moment for both” teams.

“We explored a lot of directions when creating this controller, but from the beginning we knew we wanted to tell a story,” added CD Projekt design lead Joshua Flowers. “We wanted it to feel like something that has been with you on the path, something worn and personal. As we developed concepts, we began crafting the story of this controller – and how it might exist in The Witcher 3’s world. This narrative is what we fell in love with. It had to feel like it belonged in The Witcher 3 universe – like it had lived through battles and carried stories of its own.”

The Xbox Wireless Controller variant is available now for £74.99 while the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller costs £149.99. Both are exclusive to the Microsoft Store.

As for the future of the series, The Witcher 4 won’t be out until after 2026, but we got a first trailer at the end of last year. Earlier this week, Geralt voice actor Doug Cockle called out so-called fans as “stupid” for describing The Witcher 4 as “woke” for having Ciri as the protagonist.
