Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy’s Part Three will have some sort of fresh “gameplay experience”, but it’s a big secret for now

by admin September 29, 2025

The Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy finale will have a new gameplay experience, director Naoki Hamaguchi has stated.

Speaking to German outlet NTower, Hamaguchi stated “development is going very well”, and while no specifics were provided, he did compare the gameplay of the third part back to the progression from Remake to Rebirth.

“As you’re very much aware, the first game in the series, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, was a more story driven linear gaming experience and then that evolved and changed into a more open world adventure for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second game,” Hamaguchi explained. “And that seems to be very well regarded. People seem to like that change a lot and they like the new gameplay direction. So, we’re very happy with that.”

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE – Release Date Announcement – Nintendo Switch 2Watch on YouTube

“But moving forward to the third game in the series,” he continued, “obviously I can’t say exactly what it is, but I don’t want to deliver just exactly the same style of gameplay experience as we had with Rebirth again. We’re going to evolve it and change it again to give another different and fresh take on the Final Fantasy 7 gameplay. Again, that will be revealed in the not too distant future. I can say we’re working on it and we’re trying to change that because we’ve actually got a build up and running in the development team right now where you can experience that new style of gameplay.”

So what exactly does he mean here?

While “gameplay experience” is a broad term, part three will likely still use the same battle system that’s been developed across Remake and Rebirth, though presumably with some twists for additional characters Cid and Vincent.

Hamaguchi really seems to be discussing structure here. Remake was a more linear affair, owing to the tight focus on a single location (the city of Midgar), while Rebirth was open world as Cloud and friends explore expansive environments in pursuit of Sephiroth – just as players moved to the world map in the original PS1 game.

It’s understandable Square Enix would need a change in structure for the trilogy finale. In part, the presumed inclusion of Cid’s Tiny Bronco to fly over the world would diminish the sense of exploration from Rebirth, but also re-using much of Rebirth’s world would feel like repetition.

I wonder, then, if the trilogy’s multiverse storyline might lend itself to a more unique structure. Square Enix has toyed with narrative changes from the original game with this remake trilogy and, as the scope has gradually (and confusingly) widened, perhaps a conventional linear or open world won’t be the best method to tie up its loose threads. I’d rather the development team went all-in on something new than a half-hearted midway approach in an attempt to appease a vast spectrum of fans.

Still, Hamaguchi added more will be announced “in the near future” and the game “really will be a fitting climax to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series”.

Of course, the other key question is what will the game’s subtitle be, following Remake and Rebirth. Speaking with JPGames.de, Hamaguchi explained “reunion” was the key word for Remake, while “bonds” was the key word for Rebirth (emphasising the relationships between characters).

“And in the same vein, we have got a new key word for the third game in the series,” he said. “Can’t tell you what it is yet. It’s very much there, though, and influencing and informing how the gameplay and the game experience is shaped, in exactly the same way as the first two games were by their key word.”

What are your best guesses for part three?

Until then, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is heading to Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S next year, plus the progression boosts will be retroactively added to the PS5 and PC versions.

Possessor(s), the sort of Metroidvania from the devs behind Hyper Light Drifter, gets a November release date

by admin September 28, 2025

Heart Machine have had a busy year. It was only in January that they launched Hyper Light Breaker into early access, a surprise follow-up to their beloved indie action RPG Hyper Light Drifter. That launch didn’t go amazingly due to a myriad of reasons, and even now the game hasn’t completely managed to find its footing yet. And then there’s Possessor(s), their search action (not Metroidvania) game that at long last has a release date!

That date is quite soon, too: November 11th, less than two months away. This date came with a new little gameplay overview trailer, showing off some of the tools the game’s protagonist will be able to use on her journey. I’m quite into the concept behind them, they’re all just things you’re likely to find left behind in a ruined city; a computer mouse, an electric guitar, a pair of sunglasses, all usable in combat that’s apparently partially inspired by games like Smash Bros.

Watch on YouTube

The overall concept is a tantalising one too. You play as Luca, a teenage girl caught up in the mess of a quarantined city whose body becomes so damaged she’s forced to let a demon named Rhem in to fix it. This city is in ruins because of some experiments conducted by an evil corporation (the evil being a bit moot there because when isn’t a corporation evil), with other demons having possessed everyday household objects.

Possessor(s) marks a bit of a departure for Heart Machine having transitioned to a 2D, sidescrolling plane. There’s certainly the hallmarks of the studio with its fresh concept and killer art direction, I’m just hoping they’ve managed to pull off a hit given how Hyper Light Breaker has been put through the ringer. We’ll find out in a couple of months!

Morning Minute: Stripe’s L1 Blockchain ‘Tempo’ Goes Live (Sort Of)

Today’s top news:

  • Crypto majors mostly even; BTC leads at $112,300 ahead of ‘Corn Moon’
  • WLFI blacklists Justin Sun’s tokens for terms violations
  • Stripe introduces payments-focused ‘Tempo’ blockchain live in testnet
  • New SEC releases pro-crypto agenda while Gary Gensler’s 2022-2023 texts are “lost”
  • Myriad drops 2 UX enhancements, teases TGE for first time

💸 Tempo Is Live (Sorta): Stripe + Paradigm’s Payments L1

The big players are coming into crypto.

And they’re accelerating.

📌 What Happened

Yesterday, Stripe and Paradigm announced Tempo, now in private testnet.

They have a heavy-hitting roster of design partners, including Visa, Deutsche Bank, Shopify, Nubank, OpenAI, Revolut and more.

The chain is purpose-built for stablecoin payments, targeting 100k+ TPS with sub-second finality, EVM compatibility (built on Reth) and a model that lets fees be paid in any stablecoin via an enshrined AMM.

So what’s it for?

The target use cases are global payouts, payroll, remittances, micro-transactions, tokenized deposits (24/7 settlement), embedded accounts, and even agentic payments.

🗣️ What They’re Saying

“We hope that Tempo makes it easier for things like payment acceptance, global payouts, remittances, microtransactions, tokenized deposits, agentic payments … to move onchain.” – Patrick Collison, Stripe CEO

“We’re building Tempo with principles of decentralization and neutrality… launch with a diverse set of validators, transition to a permissionless model.” – Matt Huang, Paradigm

the most important detail about stripe/paradigm’s stablecoin chain is that they are STABLECOIN NEUTRAL

while all the other stablecoin chains are playing tribalism, tempo swoops in to take everything https://t.co/eZWhtrIZRP

— John Wang (@j0hnwang) September 5, 2025

🧠 Why It Matters

There’s a reason why so many big players are building stablecoin products and infrastructure.

Fees are lower for on-chain payments.

For a $100 item, a standard credit card fee would be $3.20. If purchased via stablecoins, fees would be $0.50 or much lower – a huge spread.

That’s the opportunity that Stripe sees, and they’re clearly moving quickly.

Their advantage here is their purpose-built chain (along with their laundry list of launch partners and beta testers).

Many of today’s big chains were optimized for trading, while Tempo optimizes for payments, the largest real-world use case for crypto.

If it works, on-chain dollars become the default rail for payouts and commerce.

And that’s a boon for the broader crypto space. More stablecoins grow the overall crypto pie and bring more users on-chain.

But it doesn’t necessarily mean your favorite L1 blockchain’s token is going to go up in price…

Mark Zuckerberg Sues Facebook (Sort Of)

by admin September 6, 2025

If you found that headline confusing, try to imagine the constant bemusing misery that arrives at the door of seemingly the only other Mark Zuckerberg, an attorney who is finding his life made increasingly complicated by the shared name. So even though it’s not actually Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg that’s suing Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, the mop-haired billionaire remains the cause of the consternation, because for Indiana lawyer Mark Zuckerberg, sharing the Facebook creator’s name is causing him massive issues in both his work and personal life, and indeed costing him lots of money.

As reported by TechCrunch, Mark S. Zuckerberg—a bankruptcy attorney from Indiana—is repeatedly having his paid-for Facebook posts removed by Meta, and his accounts closed down, on the inaccurate basis that he’s falsely impersonating Mark E. Zuckerberg, co-creator of Facebook—and he’s not getting his money back. He’s had enough.

Speaking to Indiana’s WTHR, Mark S. explained that he and Facebook’s Zuck are the only two people he can find who share the name, meaning his situation is rather unique. Four times Facebook has suspended the attorney’s business account and deleted his firm’s advertisements, based on the belief that he’s deliberately trying to pass himself off as the tech billionaire, and then failing to return his resulting lost costs. So this Zuckerberg is now suing that Zuckerberg to get his money back, his legal fees paid, and potential lost money as a result of Meta’s actions.

“All my competitors advertise on Facebook,” says our new favorite Mark Zuckerberg, “so I have to do it too.” Speaking to the Indianapolis news station, he says he pays for ads, “they take my money, but then they shut me down.”

Meta gave a statement to WTHR saying, “We know there’s more than one Mark Zuckerberg in the world and we are getting to the bottom of this.”

Mark S. Zuckerberg’s life isn’t only affected in this way. It seems sharing his name with one of the most controversial figures in the world comes with a personal cost, too. He has in fact dedicated an entire website to the topic, on which he talks about how even his personal Facebook account has been suspended five times, despite providing three forms of identification each time he re-opens it, and when it’s working he’s the constant target of hacking attempts, while his phone blows up with notifications every night. (Dude, come on, just turn the notifications off. And don’t even have the app on your phone. No one should. It’s looking at data from all your other apps.) His office receives daily phone calls from furious people demanding tech support, and he says he “routinely” receives death threats and harassment via Messenger.

In fact, at one point he was accidentally sued by the State of Washington, which somehow mistook him for the other guy. And that must suck. Short of changing his own name (and really, the world should surely be able to cope with two people using it), he’s left resorting to legal action to at least not have it cost him money. Oh, and the attention it’s attracting in the press probably won’t do him much harm, either.

Mark S. Zuckerberg’s site ends on a lovely note:

“Like I said, I don’t wish Mark E. Zuckerberg any ill will at all. I hope the best for him, but let me tell you this: I will rule the search for ‘Mark Zuckerberg bankruptcy‘. And if he does fall upon difficult financial times, and happens to be in Indiana, I will gladly handle his case in honor of our eponymy.”
