Alien Ant Farm Is Bummed Its Song Was Cut From THPS 3+4

by admin June 19, 2025

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 will include some of the original songs found in the original PS2-era skating games. But not everything is making the leap to the remaster, including one Alien Ant Farm song, a move the band understands, but still called a “bummer” in a recent interview.

THPS 3+4 Does Away With The OG 4’s Career Mode, Here’s Why

Speaking to the BBC, as spotted by VGC, earlier this week, Alien Ant Farm band members Terry Corso (guitarist) and Dryden Mitchell (lead singer) were asked about a post on the group’s official Instagram account. The band’s official account replied with a single sad emoji face to the news of THPS 3+4‘s soundtrack reveal and confirmation that “Wish” won’t be included. The song was included on THPS 3‘s original soundtrack.

“Is it a bummer that we weren’t invited, or that they didn’t include us? Absolutely,” Corso told the BBC. “We understand that they’re trying to bring some new stuff onto these releases, and if you’ve gotta make cuts, you’ve gotta make cuts. I don’t know why it had to be us, I feel like our song was really good on there, and it did really well.”

“I kind of get it,” said Mitchell, “That skating feels a little bit more like the punk side and we’re not a punk band, but I think that’s what makes a cool soundtrack, is a collection, being different.”

If the band wants to blame anyone, they can directly blame Tony Hawk himself. In March, the skateboard legend and star of the franchise explained that he was the one who made the call on removing some classic songs from the upcoming remaster in order to replace them with new tracks.

“It was my choice to pick some different songs by the same artists featured in THPS3+4. I’m hoping that discovery is half the fun, and a big reason that these soundtracks resonated in the first place. So listen and enjoy the ride.”

There is, as far as we know, not a single Alien Ant Farm song in THPS 3+4. So either Activision and Tony Hawk included something like “Movies” in the upcoming remake, or he just doesn’t like Alien Ant Farm very much, and they were totally cut from the game.

Well, whatever, Mr. Hawk, you can’t stop me from including some Alien Ant Farm in this very post! Take that, buddy! Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 is set to launch on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Switch 2, and PC on July 11, 2025.

Every WWDC should end with a song composed of app reviews

by admin June 9, 2025

Partway through WWDC 2025, I started tracking every time I heard the word “delightful.” I might have missed a few, but there were at least eight times when some exec was insisting to me that an element of the upcoming iOS 26, macOS Tahoe and Apple’s other platforms merited the adjective. And maybe some people truly do feel unfettered joy about UI design, but that’s the sort of attitude in these events that makes me roll my eyes.

Apple always tries very hard to inject levity and personality into its keynotes. Most of the time, that winds up leaning on cringe from Craig Federighi, who seems quite affable about being the punchline. Sometimes I smirk a little, but again, more often than not, it’s another eye-roll. That was the case this year, as Apple bludgeoned us with a tie-in for its upcoming F1 movie, which already leans pretty hard on product placement.

Then there’s the developer devotion. Yes, Apple needs devs to use its tools and programs. Yes, the company can and should give them some kudos. But sometimes, the adulation that I’ve heard heaped on the WWDC audience in the past is so cheesy, so over-eager that it flies way past sincerity and into schlock.

Just as I was ready to turn off the stream, the curtain rose on a grand piano. And to my surprise, the final three minutes of a full band performing real reviews of apps became the actual highlight of WWDC for me.

This isn’t an original idea. Reviews, good and bad, are well-mined fodder for comedians and social media content. Jimmy Fallon, James Corden and others have made musical gags a staple of recent late night talk shows. But the way Apple decided to do it this year was, in a word, delightful.

Each review was heartfelt or dopey or both; see “saved my marriage” for Citymapper and “If this doesn’t win best app of the year, I’ll eat my shoe” for Lost in Play. It took the essential internet wisdom of “don’t read the comments” and turned it into gold. This silly little song managed to do everything Apple wants to do at WWDC in a really amusing package. It’s the dev props, it’s the splashy production, it’s legit entertainment.

For anyone who, like me, was actually humming the tune even after the stream ended, the video is up as a standalone on YouTube and was performed by soul/R&B singer Allen Stone. And to whatever producer came up with this idea: you have my utmost appreciation. Six out of five stars indeed.

NFT artist relives ‘crypto tax nightmare’ in new song

by admin June 7, 2025

Non-fungible token (NFT) artist Jonathan Mann, the musician behind the “Song A Day” project, has turned his crypto tax ordeal into a cautionary musical tale.

In a new track shared on X, Mann recounted how he made $3 million selling his entire back catalog as NFTs, only to see it vanish as the market crashed during the Terra ecosystem collapse.

“This is the story of how I made three million dollars and lost it,” Mann sings. “And how I owed the IRS more money than I made in 10 previous years.”

Musician owed $1.1 million in taxes on NFT sales

Mann said it all began on Jan. 1, 2022, when he sold 3,700 songs at $800 each, netting him roughly $3 million — all in Ether (ETH).

Excited but unprepared, Mann and his wife decided to hold onto the crypto, hoping ETH prices would increase. “We didn’t have a plan,” Mann admitted in the song.

Things took a turn when ETH’s value declined in January 2022, and the couple was unsure about how much to sell or when. To add to their woes, the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) came knocking at their door.

As Mann explained in the song, his earnings from selling NFTs are taxed as income. This means that tax is based on the value of the ETH when received, regardless of whether the crypto asset later crashes in value. Because of this, even though their $3 million in ETH went down in price, their tax bill remained the same.

To avoid selling their crypto at a loss, Mann said they took out a loan through the lending protocol Aave, using some of the ETH as collateral. But disaster struck as the market started to crash, driven by the Terra collapse.

The incident triggered a cascade of liquidations across the ecosystem, which included Mann’s loan. In a flash, 300 ETH disappeared. “A lifetime of work erased in a moment,” he lamented.

Scrambling to find a way out, Mann spent months combing through transactions with his accountant to determine how much they owed — they found out it was $1,095,171.79.

Rare Autoglyph NFT saves the day

With the threat of potential liens on their home and risks of losing his wife’s retirement account, Mann turned to one last option: selling a rare Autoglyph NFT he purchased back in crypto’s early days.

The musician said he attempted to sell the NFT through X but did not get a good reception. However, he found a broker with a client who offered $1.1 million for the NFT. Mann said that he accepted the deal to pay for the IRS taxes.

Because of the losses incurred in the Aave loan, Mann did not owe capital gains taxes on the Autoglyph sale. “It felt so bittersweet to be done,” he sings at the end.

Despite the ordeal, Mann continues writing daily songs and selling them as NFTs, still hopeful he’ll one day earn another $3 million.
