Solo Bitcoin Miner Beats the Odds, Scoring $365K BTC Jackpot

An independent Bitcoin miner hit the jackpot Sunday, outgunning the top mining operations that typically solve blocks on the leading cryptocurrency’s network. 

A solo miner solved block 910,440 of the Bitcoin blockchain, bagging a 3.137 BTC reward—worth approximately $365,000 at current prices. 

The block contained 4,913 transactions and was added by a miner using Solo CKPool—a service allowing anonymous miners to get started with a mining hook-up, without the need to run their own full Bitcoin node. 

Miners currently receive 3.125 BTC plus transaction fees for adding a block to the flagship digital coin’s network. 

It’s worth noting that a “solo miner” is just a mining operation using an independent pool that isn’t a big brand or publicly traded company that dominates the Bitcoin mining industry, such as Foundry, MARA, or Luxor. 



Decrypt previously spoke with experts in the space who denied what outspoken influencers on Crypto X sometimes proclaimed: that a “solo miner” hitting the jackpot was necessarily a small operation with little computational power, solving blocks alone. 

Once upon a time, people could mine Bitcoin from their laptops. But as the network has grown and difficulty has increased, miners now typically consist of industrial operations, or warehouses full of expensive computers. 

Mining the biggest cryptocurrency has grown increasingly hard due to difficulty increases and the volatile nature of the digital coin’s price. Miners often have to sell coins or branch into different industries—like AI data centers—to cover operational costs. 

Bitcoin was recently trading for $116,323 per coin, down more than 1% over a 24-hour period, according to CoinGecko.

15 attempts in, I actually love that Elden Ring Nightreign’s Everdark Libra is the first FromSoftware boss who’s harder to beat in co-op than solo

The handshake deal in FromSoftware games, the obfuscated difficulty option that’s always been there since Demon’s Souls, is co-op: Summoning phantoms controlled by other players or the computer⁠. In OG Elden Ring everybody’s best friend was the Mimic Tear, a powerful summon to make a copy of yourself to fight by your side.

This has held true in the co-op centric, roguelike spinoff Nightreign, with the sturdy tripod of a full party clearly being what the experience was catered towards. The new duos mode is nice enough but still slightly compromised, while even with post-launch patches, solo is still the worst way to play.

But now they’ve gone and turned all that on its head: The latest Everdark superboss, the ultra instinct version of Baphomet dealbroker Libra, only gets more challenging the bigger your posse is. I managed to take him down solo after just three runs, while I’m somewhere north of 15 attempts deep in duos and trios, a W still evading me at every turn.

Libra’s already a real piece of work in his base form, tied with end boss Heolstor as the hardest in the game by my reckoning. He has an arsenal of unusual, difficult-to-read projectile attacks that all build up the madness status effect, which does huge damage and a stun if you manage to survive the initial burst.

His signature move is a delayed blast sigil that brutalizes you with madness build-up after a quick beat. It comes out fast enough that you can’t exactly respond to it carefully and can get royally screwed if you’re in the middle of an animation, while a slight delay punishes immediate panic rolling. It is deliciously evil.

Libra’s Everdark form ups the ante by summoning invader clones of the player party with all the same abilities and a number of potential weapon loadouts thoughtfully constructed to inflict the most pain and frustration. Some of my favorites:

  • Mini Malenia Executor: Equipped with the Hand of Malenia Sword and can perform a weaker, but still potentially instant-death version of Waterfowl Dance. Yes, that Waterfowl Dance.
  • Terminator Ironeye: Possesses the Jar Cannon and One-Eyed Shield (which has a built-in cannon), as well as a seemingly-permanent buff resembling the Ironjar Aromatic: He walks extremely slowly but is extra tanky and can’t be interrupted.
  • Sniper Wylder: Uses a greatbow to spam the Rain of Arrows ash of war, doing crazy damage in a huge AoE from long distance.
  • Rot Duchess: Dual wields Scorpion’s Stinger daggers for fast Scarlet Rot buildup.

Much like the player-style NPC enemies of FromSoft’s previous games, they don’t play by the same rules that you do: Malenia-Executor is particularly difficult to interrupt out of his signature move, while all of the clones are capable of dodge rolling out of attack combos a normal player could not.

The pièce de résistance is how they shuffle in: It does not feel like Libra has a consistent timer for summoning a fresh wave of evil twins. Wiping them out is not a guarantee of breathing room to DPS the boss, while it’s far more likely for them to start piling up as you fail to clear out old ones before the new clones spawn in.

The final indignity is that Libra summoning a new wave heals any surviving invaders, buffs their defense and damage, and the buffs stack. A veteran six rounds deep Executor spamming Waterfowl Dance is who I wish I was playing as.

All of this while Libra has new, more aggressive madness-inflicting AOE attacks to fling at you. A mature Everdark Libra fight is pure chaos, a field of evil clones glowing gold with layered buffs, some attacking each other, but most chasing you around like it’s Yakety Sax while Libra turns the field into a bullet hell screen. It’s utterly deranged. I don’t know how a group of randos with no coordination is supposed to beat it. It’s hilarious.

The time is ripe

Whether fully intentional or not, FromSoft’s classical deferred difficulty system works in reverse with Everdark Libra. It’s like a martial arts movie thing or Bruce Wayne climbing out of Bane’s house without the dang rope or something: If the enemy draws its strength from you, make yourself weaker.

Not only is one evil twin far more manageable than triplets, the singleplayer mode’s adjusted health values mean they go down quicker too. Even in the solo runs I failed, I didn’t experience the chaotic pileups of a three-player slugfest.

This inversion is another example of how flexible and surprising FromSoft’s well-worn systems can still be. Yet another boss in Nightreign is challenging in a way that took me off-guard, that wasn’t just another really tall, sad guy with a sword who moves super fast.

That has me even more excited for what the studio does next: After Promised Consort Radahn in Shadow of the Erdtree, I was worried there might be a ceiling to FromSoft’s arms race with itself to make ever greater twitch reflex challenges in its bosses. In Nightreign, the studio sidestepped this issue, proving there’s nothing stopping it from delivering spectacles, challenges, or sheer curveballs we just won’t see coming.

As for the fight itself, it’s a new favorite. Everdark Libra feels like a joke at my expense, a prank played on us players. That’s one of my favorite things to see in a game, and FromSoft is the master when it comes to this rare art.

Could they ease off the gas with the clone spawns just a touch? Maybe, it depends on how soon you ask me after a failed run. Is it kinda bullshit that Vyke’s War Spear, the only melee weapon Libra is weak to, is such a rare drop that I’ve only seen it twice in 111.8 hours (but who’s counting)? Perhaps.

I hope they never nerf Everdark Libra. He’s so stupid. It’s all so meanspirited. I love him like a son.

Elden Ring Nightreign player completes their ‘solo gremlin challenge’, clearing every boss in a row as its squishiest character

Someone had to do it: An exceptionally skilled Elden Ring Nightreign player has soloed all eight Nightlords (and the new enhanced boss) as its squishiest character. And if my eyes don’t deceive me, I think they did all of them in a row.

Reddit user PotatoFoSho calls it the “solo gremlin challenge” in reference to the flood of memes that depict the Revenant as a tiny angry doll usually wielding a sword twice her size. She’s one of Nightreign’s weakest characters in terms of survivability and is extremely dependent on finding powerful spells each run. When geared right, however, she can use her massive skeleton summons to distract bosses as she rips them apart.

PotatoFoSho dropped their relic setup for her, which notably includes a ton of stats to increase her mana and spell damage (not health!). They say fellow Revenant players should focus on cleaning out cathedrals for the seals that come with powerful incantation spells and to prioritize evergaol bosses for massive amounts of runes to level up quickly. The Wraith Calling Bell—which players have discovered is surprisingly powerful—is always good to have on you too, they said.

And like any good Revenant player, they recommend stacking up as many Starlight Shards as you can to keep your mana bar topped off since she has no way of restoring FP otherwise. They urge everyone to visit as many Sorcerer’s Rises on the map as they can for them.

I have completed the solo gremlin challenge from r/Nightreign

As someone who just finished their first attempt on the new “Sovereign Everdark” version of the Gaping Maw boss, I’m impressed PotatoFoSho was able to take it out as a spell caster who has to also manage her skeleton minions. The finger gymnastics involved with that while also trying to avoid a rabid dragon and his massive hurricane must be practically Olympian.

I will stick to playing Revenant safely in groups of three so that when I inevitably get annihilated by a boss breathing on me, I will at least have some backup. Hats off to PotatoFoSho though, they’ve definitely earned the title of the Solo Gremlin.

Did a Solo Bitcoin Miner Really Win a $326,000 Reward?

A Bitcoin miner bagged a big reward of 3.151 BTC—or $326,337 at today’s prices—after solving a block alone, according to blockchain data. 

Block 899,826 was processed by a “solo miner”—something that rarely happens. 

But according to eagle-eyed observers on X, the picture isn’t as simple as it appears. 

The miner apparently received a hashrate from elsewhere, software engineer of the CK Miner pool said on the platform. 

Dr CK, who is the administrator of the Solo.ckpool, a pool for independent miners, said that it was “obvious” the miner rented the hashpower. 

“This hashrate was almost certainly a rental based on there being only one worker, though the account has been mining for a while with a much lower hashrate,” he wrote. 

Decrypt reached out to the mining pool for additional comment. 

Decrypt previously spoke with experts about how despite the fact more “solo miners” were hitting the jackpot, they often were getting help—i.e. hashrate—from elsewhere. 



And “solo miner”—as the term appears on blockchain data websites—doesn’t necessarily mean that one person with limited resources is minting new coins by themself. Rather, it could just mean a mining operation that isn’t a big brand or publicly traded company that dominates the Bitcoin mining industry. 

Hashrate is the computational power used to mine Bitcoin. When blocks—containing transaction data—are processed by miners and added to the blockchain, miners are rewarded for their work with newly minted Bitcoins. 

But mining Bitcoin is a tough industry: Once something you could do at home on a PC, the industry now is huge and operations are typically warehouses using tremendous amounts of electricity in order to process blocks. 

Entering the space isn’t for the risk-averse, either—despite a crypto-friendly president now in the White House and cheap energy available in mining hubs around the U.S. Aside from the competitive environment, the rewards for miners have decreased to 3.125 Bitcoin since last year’s halving.

Keeta teams up with SOLO to launch a blockchain-native credit bureau

Real-world tokenization project Keeta plans to offer digital asset holders access to credit services, including mortgages and small business loans, through a new platform built for blockchain-native financial identity.

With crypto and blockchain adoption on the rise, Keeta Network (KTA) has announced the upcoming launch of PASS, a verified financial identity platform. The initiative is a collaboration between Keeta and SOLO, a credit data infrastructure provider, according to a press release published on June 5.

According to the Keeta team, the PASS platform is designed as a bank-grade, blockchain-native credit bureau with features including Know Your Customer, Know Your Business, and verifiable credentials for income and crypto asset holdings. These tools are intended to allow banks and lenders to extend services to crypto-native users by leveraging PASS’s on-chain visibility to underwrite credit.

“As digital asset adoption accelerates, Keeta’s blockchain is the first to tackle the scale and regulatory overhead for an on-chain credit bureau, opening the door for lending, borrowing, mortgages, stablecoin payments, and more,” Ty Schenk, chief executive officer and founder of Keeta, said in a statement. 

Schenk emphasized that PASS is built to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the digital asset ecosystem.

“This is the first time that a blockchain network has made real-world financial credentials, like income, assets, and identity, verifiable, tokenized, and trusted for lending,” Georgina Merhom, founder of SOLO, noted.

Keeta, backed by former Google chief executive & chairman, Eric Schmidt, is a blockchain network with built-in compliance framework. The project is eyeing traction in the real-world asset tokenization industry currently on fire across the globe. 

Global businesses and institutions can now tokenize any assets to tap into blockchain’s massive potential, with the sector growing rapidly in 2024 to currently sit at over $23 billion.

The rollout of Keeta’s on-chain credit system in partnership with SOLO will occur in phases. Verified financial profiles are expected to go live in the summer of 2025, with additional features, including a lending marketplace, stablecoin-based loan origination, and bank integrations, planned for subsequent release.

Elden Ring Pros Are Already Destroying Nightreign Bosses Solo

Elden Ring Nightreign turns FromSoftware’s best-in-class boss fights into multiplayer affairs, so now your shame and frustration can be shared with others. But while lots of players have been going hours without beating the roguelite RPG’s first major encounter, others are in a race to be the sweatiest solo player out there.

The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History

“8 hours in and still haven’t beaten the first nightlord…” reads one of the most popular threads from the Nightreign subreddit over the weekend. “Took me 15 hours to beat the first nightlord with randoms,” one fan responded. “Surprisingly I didn’t angrily tilt once, im having a blast shit is fun as hell.” Another wrote, “I’ve done 20 tries and still haven’t got that wolf killed very frustrating but I just gotta get good.”

My favorite post from Nightreign players sharing their long overdue Ws is from a player who went on 30 total expeditions before finally beating the first boss, a fire-wielding, three-headed hound called Gladius. But while many players have spent the opening weekend of the game’s release bleeding out on cosmic shores, some have been making the game look trivially easy.

YouTuber Youwy decided to take on Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow solo and—most importantly—without gaining a single level (via PC Gamer). He played Executor, the dexterity-based Nightfarer who can parry attacks. The fights revolve around jumping, dodging, and managing stamina consumption like a farmer in a drought. Even more crucial was a starting build that included the Night of Miasma and Night of the Wise relics, giving a base weapon with tons of starting status ailments that can just be upgraded through the run. “I sometimes can’t beat the 1st night and bro is out here doing this solo and level 1…WP,” one fan wrote in the comments.

Then there was YouTuber Ongbal, who used the Executor class to take out the Nightreign’s final boss without any outside help (so spoilers, obviously, if you don’t want to know anything before playing it for yourself). Ongbal is well-known for Elden Ring hitless runs, but he hasn’t gotten there just yet with Heolstor, a boss you can really tell FromSoftware had fun designing. Once again making use of Executor’s parry, which lets players treat Nightreign more like Sekiro, he takes the final boss down in less than six minutes. And this was before a new patch making solo play easier went live on Monday (which is already making a big difference for some players).

One thing that makes Nightreign’s boss fights so tough is the work players have to do to get to them. Unlike past games, where you can beeline for the encounter and practice over and over until you’ve mastered it, Nightreign requires players to engage in a 40-minute open-world farming session beforehand. As a result, most players probably only spend about a ninth of their playtime actually learning how each Nightlord works. Some have already called for a practice mode to make training easier. That’s one request I don’t see FromSoftware’s granting anytime soon though.

Elden Ring Nightreign patch to help out solo players arrives early, but those changes aren’t massive

Elden Ring Nightreign servers are back online following brief maintenance earlier today. During that downtime, FromSoftware rolled out the first major-ish post-launch patch for the game, which does come with a welcome addition for solo players.

Update 1.01.1 is now available on all platforms, so let’s dig into the details.

Shortly after Nightreign launched, players complained about the lack of any mechanic to help out solo players. Yes, the game is intended to be played in groups of three, but it didn’t also need to be extra hostile to solo players.

FromSoftware quickly promised to make a few changes in the next major patch, which is arriving this week. The good news, however, is that some of the changes initially planned for update 1.02 have now made it into the game with today’s patch, 1.01.1.

This one brings two key changes that only go in effect when you play the game solo. First, solo players now have one free revival, once per night boss fight, active at all times. This effect previously needed to be earned, which remains the case for co-op Expeditions. The patch also boosted rune acquisition for solo players, which is likely intended to compensate for the lack of co-op teammates, not to mention make the levelling process a bit faster.

For everyone else, the patch increased the number of high-rarity Relics that can be earned upon reaching Day 3 during any given Expedition, which should make that final fight a little more tolerable. By the same token, players are now a lot more likely to get high-rarity Relics from Scenic Flat stones. Said stones can be bought at the Small Jar Bazaar, of course.

Outside of the balance tweaks and new-ish features, patch 1.01.1 also comes with a host of bug fixes. Chiefly, it adjusts the camera when activating Wings of Salvation, the Guardian’s Ultimate, so you’re less likely to see some of the headache-inducing jitters that could occur in certain situations.

There are also fixes targeting several skills whose effects would not be triggered when they should, and others whose values were not displayed correctly. You can read on below for all the bug fixes in 1.01.1.

Bug Fixes

  • Adjusted camera behavior when activating the Guardian’s Ultimate Art, “Wings of Salvation.”
  • Fixed a bug in the Duchess’s Character Skill “Restage” where Status Ailments would not trigger when built up from other players’ attacks.
  • Fixed a bug where some attacks of Raider with Greataxe and Great Hammer weapon types had higher damage than intended.
  • Fixed a bug where some “Those Who Live in Death “ enemies would revive when defeated with the “Sacred Blade” skill.
  • Fixed a bug where the “Bleeding” Status Ailment would not build up when the Skill “Bloody Slash” hit an enemy.
  • Fixed a bug where the “Ghostflame Ignition” attack would not occur under certain circumstances.
  • Fixed a bug where the status ailment “Frostbite” would not build up when the light wave released by a strong attack hit an enemy while the “Moonlight Greatsword” skill was active.
  • Fixed a bug where the speed of arrows fired with the “Mighty Shot” and “Enchanted Shot” skills was slower than expected.
  • Fixed a bug where the attack range of the magic spell “Rock Sling” was longer than expected when using it with a staff equipped in the left hand.
  • Fixed a bug where the effect of reducing the maximum HP of enemies when the incantation “Black Blade” hit them was not activated.
  • Fixed a bug where the Passive Effect “Successive Attacks Negate Damage” would stack when successive attacks were made while the Effect was active.
  • Fixed a bug where some Passive Effects were not displaying their effects at the correct values.
  • Fixed a bug where the Relic Special Effect “[Guardian] Become the target of enemy aggression when ability is activated” would not activate under certain situations.
  • Fixed a bug where certain effects were not being applied to Relics obtained from Expedition Rewards or purchased from the Small Jar Bazaar.
  • Fixed a bug where items that could be obtained upon completing a Remembrance in the Remembrance world when the scenario conditions were met could not be obtained when changing characters and concluding a Remembrance.
  • Fixed bugs in the behavior and specifications of certain attacks and actions of specific enemies.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to become unstable under certain conditions during battles with specific enemies.
  • Fixed a bug in the graphics rendering during battles with specific enemies.
  • Fixed some incorrect information in the staff credits.
  • Fixed some text.
  • Fixed a bug where some sound effects were not playing correctly.
  • Fixed a bug where the “Exit Remembrance” effect was not displayed during a “Wylder” Remembrance on some platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where the HUD was not displayed on some platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where the game would crash under certain circumstances on some platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where Expeditions and reconnecting to sessions would fail under certain circumstances on some platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where background music would not play properly under certain circumstances on some platforms.

Steam-only Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where some graphics were not rendered correctly when “Low” was selected in “Quality Settings” under “Graphics.”
  • Fixed a bug where the Climb up action sometimes failed when using the keyboard.
  • Fixed a bug where the Climb up action was difficult to perform when using a gamepad.

FromSoftware has patched Elden Ring Nightreign to make it easier for solo players.

The studio stated last week it would be making adjustments. Now, after a period of server downtime this morning, the update has been made.

Specifically, the new patch adds an effect to automatically revive solo players once when facing a Nightlord, plus the amount of runes gained has been increased.

In addition, FromSoftware has made two general balance adjustments. Firstly, there’s an increased number of high-rarity Relics obtained when players reach the final day of an expedition.

Secondly, there’s an increased probability of obtaining high-rarity Relics when purchasing Scenic Flat stones from the Small Jar Bazaar. These provide a random Relic when bought, but they’re usually of a low level.

Other changes include adjusted camera when activated the Guardian’s Ultimate Art, as well a number of bug fixes. Now, the Duchess’s Restage skill will properly trigger status ailments from other players’ attacks, as well as minor tweaks.

Some Steam-only bugs have also been fixed, improving the climb action and ensuring graphics are rendered correctly on the Low visual setting. The studio previously warned in its day one patch notes that some PC configurations using the latest graphics cards may experience frame rate drops – it appears this is yet to be fully addressed.

Nighreign is a multiplayer-focused spin-off to Elden Ring, but has been criticised for its unbalanced solo play.

After its release, FromSoftware acknowledged issues with matchmaking, particularly on PlayStation.

The studio also stated a two-player mode may be added in future, but one fan has already made a PC mod with plans to expand it in future.

FromSoftware’s Dark Souls games all included multiplayer in some form, but with Elden Ring spin-off Nightreign it’s turned the soulslike genre into a true co-operative online experience. Players team up in groups of three to take on fearsome Nightlord bosses, able to seamlessly share in its exhilarating thrills together.

Yet this seems to go against fans of the genre. Sure, being able to summon help in the original Elden Ring led to community superstars like Let Me Solo Her, and there are mods to make seamless co-operative play possible. But for the most part, these games are predominantly solo experiences, offering grimdark worlds to explore with the occasional threat of player invasion. And with the reveal Switch 2 game The Duskbloods will similarly be an online multiplayer game, FromSoftware even had to reassure fans it’s still making solo games too.

However, it’s still possible to play Elden Ring Nightreign on your own. The question is: should you?

Elden Ring Nightreign Review – An Authentic Souls ExperienceWatch on YouTube

Like many, I’ve always played Souls games completely alone and I’ve mostly ignored the series’ multiplayer mechanics, so I was intrigued to see how Nightreign would hold up. As I wrote in my Elden Ring Nightreign review, though, the game has surprisingly convinced me a co-operative Souls game can be just as challenging and thrilling. Yet reviewing a multiplayer game is an interesting experience, as there’s a limited pool of fellow media to join up with. That meant in the early stages I did dabble in the game’s single player mode – there’s an option to launch an expedition on your own instead of a team of three, though at present there’s no option for two players.

By comparison to playing with others online, playing Nightreign solo is an extremely lonely, frustrating, and repetitive experience. I would not recommend it – at least, not at first.

It’s clear, Nightreign has been designed primarily as a multiplayer experience, with players relying on each other for support. Character skills can sync up together for increased damage, and players can revive one another if downed in battle. What’s more, bosses have huge health pools, sweeping AoE attacks, and rush across the battlefield to target multiple players. At times, they can feel more like an MMORPG boss intended for multiple players. Often the best method for facing a Nightlord as a team is baiting it in one direction for others to hit from another angle.

But that’s not possible alone. Instead, you’ll likely be overwhelmed by a flurry of attacks, or spend time chasing after bosses rather than engaging them. And once knocked down, there’s no one to help revive you – and when facing a Nightlord, that means restarting an entire forty minute run all over again. FromSoftware has scaled down enemy health for solo players and there are purchasable revival items, but playing alone is absolutely a struggle. Runes – your experience gained by defeating enemies – are shared between multiple players, so as a team you can swiftly beat groups of enemies to quickly level up. Alone, smaller encounters waste your time and bosses are frustratingly challenging. What’s more, you can’t cover as much of the map, and won’t level up as quickly, so you’ll likely be severely under-levelled once you reach a boss. And while buff-providing Relics can boost your chances of success, you could spend hours grinding alone for the best ones to use. The game just isn’t designed that way.

Of course, it’s still possible to play solo. And no doubt there will be experts already looking to rise to Nightreign’s considerable challenge without aid from other players. But this will require significant understanding of character skills, boss patterns and weaknesses, and the most optimal route across the map, all learned after hours of play. This isn’t a game to tackle alone until you’re aware of all its intricacies.

Solo play does have its place, though. While the Roundtable Hold, your base of operations, includes a training area, there’s nothing like a bit of in-the-field action to understand each character’s moveset. So if, like me, you’re too embarrassed to test a character for the first time with others, you can at least do a dummy run of the game alone offline without the prying or judgemental eyes of others.

It’s also handy for completing the game’s Remembrances. Each character has a distinct story, told through journal entries and extra missions, which often means defeating a certain enemy or finding a certain item on the map. These can be completed with others, but going alone allows you to rush over and focus on these missions without interrupting the strategies of other players.

Still, the design of Nightreign is fundamentally geared towards three players and sharing those strategies. Playing with friends on voice chat is the best experience; playing with random matchmaking is feasible; and playing alone is a chore – even if the game’s day one patch has made some balance adjustments.

Yet there’s more to come. Next year FromSoftware will release The Duskbloods on Switch 2 and I’m intrigued to see what the studio will learn from Nightreign. Will it further blur the boundaries between a multiplayer and solo experience? And if all fans really want is another truly single-player game, how long will they have to wait?

Elden Ring Nightreign’s next patch will make gameplay easier for solo players

Just a day after its release, FromSoftware announced a crucial patch for Elden Ring Nightreign players who prefer to solo queue. The game’s developer posted on X that Patch 1.02 will be released next week, delivering some bug fixes and “improvements for solo expeditions.”

More specifically, FromSoftware will add the effect of “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat” that allows a self-revival once per night boss battle for solo expeditions. Players will also get more runes, which should provide a more balanced gaming experience when venturing alone. This news of this patch follows several criticisms of the game being poorly optimized when playing solo, versus in a party of three as it was designed for.

FromSoftware’s titles have a reputation for being difficult, but early reviews pointed out that Nightreign offers poor scaling with certain mechanics, abilities and boss fights that cater towards a full party. Despite the millions of copies sold on the first day, Nightreign holds a “mixed” Steam user review rating thanks to the solo queue issues, along with a lack of communication tools, cross-platform play and less replayability than other Souls titles.

For FromSoftware, Elden Ring Nightreign represents a stylistic shift into the roguelike genre based on its best-selling predecessor and it might still be working out some of the kinks. The game’s director, Junya Ishizaki, told IGN in an interview that jumping into an expedition as a duo was “overlooked during development” but is something that the developer is looking at and considering for post-launch support. Some players are also having issues with matchmaking itself, where FromSoftware recommends restarting the process to get into an expedition. As for rebalancing for solo play, FromSoftware said that more details about this upcoming patch will come next week.
