Elden Ring Nightreign: Best Smithing Stone Locations

by admin June 3, 2025

With its blend of the soulslike and roguelike genres, Elden Ring Nightreign can be an overwhelming game to adjust to. It takes time to figure out how everything works and where to spend your time most wisely on the map.

The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History

One of the most important things to think about on each run is whether to upgrade a weapon you really like or hold out hope that a better, more powerful option will drop before the end of your run. Make the wrong choice, and you could be in a bad spot against the final boss of an expedition.

This is why you’ll sometimes want to visit an anvil near a merchant to level up a weapon you like with Smithing Stones. While you can’t get a weapon to Legendary rarity using this method, you can at least reach Epic rarity, making you a far more deadly foe to any future baddies you encounter. If that sounds good, here’s where to find Smithing Stones in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Smithing Stone [1] is a blue-colored stone used to upgrade a Common (white) rarity weapon to Rare (blue) rarity. These can be purchased from any merchant, found randomly in chests, or looted from corpses.

You’re likely to find at least a few of these stones during most expeditions, so unless you need them, be sure to share them with anyone who is falling behind in power early on.

Smithing Stone [2] is a purple-colored stone used to upgrade a Rare (blue) rarity weapon to Epic (purple) rarity. These can only be found by killing a specific boss enemy within one of the mines located somewhere on the map.

Each mine has a different boss type, such as an easy knight with a shield, an annoying Pumpkin Head enemy, or a bigass troll. Taking them down won’t take too long with a good team and a few levels under your belt, but the claustrophobic showdown can still lead to easy mistakes, so approach each of

Furthermore, remember that you’ll need to navigate the maze-like interior of the mine to come across these foes, so make sure you’ve got plenty of time to find them before setting off underground. If you get caught inside a mine when the rain comes through, you may be kissing your expedition goodbye. A purple greatsword isn’t going to do you much good if you’re dead, after all.

Elden Ring Nightreign is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs.

Oblivion Remastered just got a full Skyrim-style smithing system thanks to a modder, in case you’ve missed making stuff by getting very good at banging hot things

by admin May 31, 2025

Right, so. Oblivion Remastered modders continue to find ways to pull off really cool stuff despite not having any official tools. The latest interesting new mod to drop adds a whole Skyrim-style smithing system and skill to the game, and it’s by someone who’d already blown us away with their faction overhauls.

Yep, modder ColdTyrant’s back at it again, clearly not having been content with all of the interesting Oblivion Remastered modding efforts we recently chatted to them about. During that convo, they teased “a secret project” they thought everyone would dig – I’m not sure if this is that, but it’d certainly qualify in my book.

Their latest work is ‘Skill Line – Smithing’, and as you’d expect from the name, it adds the ability to make gear at a forge to Oblivion as a totally separate thing to the established armourer skill that revolves around bashing your sword with a hammer to stop it breaking.

You’ll find new interactable forges – each made up of a “smithing chest” where you store any materials you want to use for crafting, plus an anvil and leather rack you can then interact with to turn that stored stuff into new gear or the usual processed animal bits you’ll need to forge certain stuff. There’s also an “equipment smelter” you can use to melt down existing unenchanted gear into raw materials for crafting – though in a wonderful lore-based twist, you can’t melt down Imperial Legion armour without a special permit.

The mod adds one of these forging stations to each of Cyrodiil’s major cities – you can find their exact locations by looking through the mod page’s images – as well as the Shivering Isles. In order to find out which materials are required to craft certain weapons and armour, you’ll need to consult a special smithing workbook ColdTyrant’s left a free copy of atop every anvil he’s added.

That said, you’ll also have to make sure your character’s got the smithing skills to craft what they want to, with the mod adding in a book you can use to track how good you’re getting as you craft more and more stuff. “Because it is currently impossible to integrate brand new skills into the User Interface properly,” ColdTyrant explains, “once the mod is initialized the player will be given a book in their Miscellaneous inventory category, which they can use to check not only their current Smithing level, but the percent progress toward their next level.”

As you’d expect, the further towards the level 100 cap this new skill has you get, the more stuff you’ll need to craft to keep increasing your smithing level. Oh, and if you fancy, the Shivering Isles forges will let you make Dark Seducer and Golden Saint gear, because why not?

If you fancy giving the mod a go, as with most of ColdTyrant’s other mods you’ll need to grab Oblivion Remastered’s UE4SS and UE4SS TesSyncMapInjector.

Make sure to check out all the interviews we’ve been doing with Oblivion Remastered modders who’ve been pushing the boundaries and working on interesting stuff, including that aforementioned chat with ColdTyrant.

Where to find Smithing Stones in Elden Ring Nightreign

by admin May 30, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign gives you the ability to upgrade weapons, but you’ll need to find and get Smithing Stones first to do so.

Elden Ring Nightreign challenges you to survive three days in a world filled with plenty of deadly encounters. Although choosing the best class that suits your playstyle and playing with friends can definitely help increase your chances to do so, at the end of the day, your skill and gear also matter.

As the enemies you fight gradually get stronger, you’ll also want to upgrade your weapons to finish them off. This is where Smithing Stones come in handy, though they can be tricky to find if you’re unsure where to look.

So, here’s how to find them and how to use them to upgrade your weapons.

How to get Smithing Stones in Elden Ring Nightreign

fromsoftware / dexertoYou can pick up a Smithing Stone from an enemy’s loot.

The Smithing Stones in Nightrein come in different rarities, with the gray and blue ones being the more common ones you can find. You can obtain them by opening treasure chests or looting enemies that you’ve defeated.

Additionally, you can also purchase them from merchants. Keep an eye out for places like churches, ruins, camps, and, most importantly, Townships. Usually, the ones that you can find on the latter sell more items.

Just keep in mind that each stone costs 6,000 Runes if you want to purchase them rather than finding them from loot.

While they’re basic, these are sufficient for upgrading your starting weapon and can benefit you early in the game.

How to get Smithing Stones 2

fromsoftware / dexertoThe Smithing Stone 2 is always a worthy upgrade.

Getting Smithing Stone 2 is a lot tougher, as you’ll need to defeat mini-bosses that can be found in tunnel entrances marked on your map. The tradeoff is that they do give you better upgrades, increasing the base damage of your weapon and other stats.

As soon as you defeat any of the mini-boss, though, you’ll be given two options: a passive buff or Smithing Stone 2. Unless you’ve already gotten a decent weapon, the latter is always a solid option.

Other than that, there’s also a chance that you can encounter a merchant who sells these.

How to upgrade your weapon

fromsoftware / dexertoA closer look at the anvil in-game.

Grabbing the Smithing Stones won’t immediately upgrade your weapon. Instead, you’ll have to use an anvil that can be found near a merchant. Interact with it, and you’ll have access to the ‘Strengthen Ornament’ tab to use the stones for your preferred weapon.

Here’s a quick summary of all the upgrade works:

  • Smithing Stone 1: upgrades your weapon from Common to Uncommon +1
  • Smithing Stone 2: upgrades your weapon from Uncommon +1 to Rare +2

If you’re looking for another way to upgrade your weapon, then you’ll want to keep track of The Shifting Earth events. There’s one event called The Crater that provides you the opportunity to upgrade your weapon to Legendary instantly.
