Tron Inc. Shares Tumble 85% From June Peak Amid DAT Market Slump

by admin October 1, 2025

In brief

  • Tron Inc. stock has fallen 85% since June, part of a broader downturn for crypto-linked public companies.
  • MSTR, BMNR, and the majority of publicly listed treasury companies are down double digits from their three-month peaks.
  • This sell-off is a digital asset treasury trend, not a problem unique to any single firm, experts told Decrypt.

Tron Inc., a TRX treasury company, has been on a sustained downtrend since its mid-June peak.

The Nasdaq-listed toy and souvenir manufacturer is down 85% from its June 20 peak of $12.80, according to TradingView data. In September alone, the company witnessed a 55% decline.

“The hype is deflating,” Peter Chung, head of research at Presto Research, told Decrypt.

Chung noted that it is common for hype and frenzy to take over when a new meta is introduced, leading to outsized gains. As cooler heads prevail, the asset tends to find a stable footing, leading to a decline in its valuation.

“This year it happened with Circle IPO, and is happening with DATs,” he explained.

“It’s not just Tron,” Czhang Lin, head of LBank Labs, told Decrypt. “Many firms in the space are navigating similar headwinds.”

Tron Inc., which was listed on Nasdaq on July 24 through a reverse merger with SRM Entertainment, is not the only crypto treasury company facing a slump.

Stephen Gregory, founder of crypto trading platform Vtrader, told Decrypt that the recent drop in crypto treasury companies was a result of “bad execution” and “rushing to the market” without “fully fleshing out” their strategy.

Gregory noted that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s investigation involving 200 firms for suspicious stock trades preceding crypto treasury announcements is also part of the reason why the stock prices of crypto-linked companies are dropping.

Bitcoin treasury company MicroStrategy (MSTR) is down roughly 30% in the last three months, while Ethereum treasury company Bitmine Immersion Technologies Inc. has also shed 67% over the same period.

Justin Sun, who serves as an adviser to Tron Inc. and is the founder of TRON, has long been at the center of speculation and allegations, from his early ICO days in China to a recent run-in with U.S. law enforcement for allegedly selling unregistered securities related to TRON and BitTorrent.

Despite navigating regulatory challenges, Sun’s recent actions involving the Trump-family-linked World Liberty Financial project have had an immediate impact.

After WLFI’s token generation event on September 1, Sun claimed 600 million tokens and moved 9 million to the HTX exchange, which he alleged were “routine tests and address splits,” without any intention to sell.

The move prompted the WLFI project to freeze Sun’s remaining 591 million unlocked tokens.

TRX is down nearly 1% in the past 24 hours and is currently trading at $0.33, with a market capitalization of $31.56 billion, making it the tenth-largest crypto in the industry.

Bitcoin’s Slump Widens Safe Haven Divergence for Gold

by admin September 24, 2025

In brief

  • Bitcoin has dropped 5% since last Thursday, while gold has surged nearly 5% to record highs.
  • The growing divergence could be linked to institutional investors’ preference for gold as a safe-haven asset amid macroeconomic uncertainty, Decrypt was told.
  • If history repeats, the top crypto is likely to outperform the precious metal as the risk tolerance increases and capital rotates into Bitcoin.

Gold’s uptrend amid Bitcoin’s downturn has driven a wedge between the two safe-haven assets, with experts noting that this increasing divergence is a result of macroeconomic uncertainty, which has pushed investors to reassess their risk appetites.

Though Bitcoin is often referred to as a safe-haven asset or digital gold, it has failed to match gold’s bullish momentum. Since last Thursday, the top crypto has dropped roughly 5% while the precious metal has notched a 5% gain and set a new record high of $3,791.

“Part of gold’s newly found strength in recent weeks lies in strong sovereign and central bank demand,” Farzam Ehsani, CEO and co-founder of crypto exchange VALR, told Decrypt. The aggressive accumulation comes from countries like China and Russia using gold as a “geopolitical buffer and a hedge against the U.S. dollar dominance.”

Bitcoin, on the other hand, is in the “early stages of its institutional adoption,” which is why investors are “skeptical” whether the bellwether crypto can fulfill its digital gold narrative, Ehsani added.

The 90-day change in ETF inflows between gold and Bitcoin shows that while the precious metal has attracted $18.5 billion as of September, Bitcoin’s inflows stand at just under $10 billion, according to BOLD Report data.

Bitcoin’s performance has historically improved once the Federal Reserve begins cutting interest rates. Under these conditions, the top crypto plays catch up, outperforming the traditional safe-haven asset, Decrypt previously reported.

“Gold moves first, Bitcoin follows 1–2 months later,” Ryan McMillin, chief investment officer at crypto fund manager Merkle Tree Capital, recently told Decrypt.

As private risk-tolerant capital flows in, Bitcoin typically outperforms gold, as the digital asset accounts for roughly one-tenth of the precious metal’s market capitalization, McMillin noted.

Spot Crypto ETFs See $1.4B Outflows As Bitcoin, Ether Slump

by admin August 25, 2025

Cryptocurrency investment products reversed an emerging inflow trend, with significant outflows last week as Bitcoin and Ether prices declined.

Global crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) saw $1.43 billion of outflows last week, ending a two-week inflow run that brought in $4.3 billion, CoinShares reported on Monday.

The outflows came amid Bitcoin (BTC) dipping from above $116,000 on Aug.18 to $112,000 by the end of the trading week, while Ether (ETH) tumbled below $4,100 on Tuesday after starting the week at around $4,250, according to CoinGecko.

Last week’s losses marked the second-biggest outflows on record for spot Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs), with almost $430 million withdrawn on Tuesday alone, according to SoSoValue.

Largest outflows since March

According to CoinShares’ head of research, James Butterfill, the $1.4 billion in outflows from crypto funds were the biggest losses since March 2025.

Butterfill attributed the sell-off to “increasingly polarized” investor sentiment over US monetary policy, with pessimism around the Federal Reserve’s stance driving $2 billion outflows early in the week.

“However, sentiment shifted later in the week following Jerome Powell’s address at the Jackson Hole Symposium, which was widely interpreted as more dovish than expected, sparking inflows of $594 million,” he added.

Shift in tone reflected in Ethereum

Butterfill said the shift in tone was more strongly reflected in Ether, which saw a sharp mid-week recovery, resulting in $440 million of outflows.

Bitcoin ETPs saw significantly bigger outflows, totaling more than $1 billion.

The analyst emphasized a notable change in investor sentiment toward Bitcoin and Ether given the month-to-date inflows, where Bitcoin has experienced $1 billion outflows versus Ether’s $2.5 billion of inflows.

“Inflows year-to-date for Ethereum represent 26% of total assets under management compared to just 11% for Bitcoin,” Butterfill added.

In the meantime, altcoin flows were mixed, with XRP (XRP) seeing $25 million in inflows, Solana (SOL) posting $12 million gains, while Sui (SUI) and Toncoin (TON) saw outflows of $13 million and $1.5 million, respectively.

Thailand Launches Crypto-to-Baht System Amid Tourism Slump

by admin August 17, 2025

Thailand will launch a new system on Monday, August 18, allowing foreign tourists to convert cryptocurrency into baht as the government looks for ways to lift a tourism sector hit by falling arrivals.

The initiative, called “TouristDigiPay,” will allow foreign travelers to convert their digital assets into Thai baht through regulated electronic payment channels.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira will officially announce the program at a press conference alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Anti-Money Laundering Office, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Thailand’s tourism earnings have slipped this year, hurt largely by a steep fall in Chinese arrivals. With tourism forming a major part of the economy, authorities are now turning to new methods to draw visitors back.

Under the new system, foreign tourists can convert their cryptocurrencies into baht and spend the money electronically, such as through QR code payments. Direct use of digital assets for purchases will not be allowed. The programme will run inside a regulatory sandbox to ensure it is closely monitored and risks are kept in check.

To participate, tourists must open accounts with a digital asset business regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission and an e-money provider licensed by the Bank of Thailand. Eligibility is limited to foreign visitors staying in Thailand temporarily.

Stringent Know Your Customer (KYC) and customer due diligence checks will be required in line with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Office standards to prevent misuse of the service.

The launch follows a recent public consultation by the Securities and Exchange Commission on the role of financial innovation and digital assets in supporting economic and tourism growth, which concluded on August 13.

Officials expect the TouristDigiPay scheme to provide a new channel for visitors to spend in Thailand while strengthening the country’s position as a regional hub for digital finance.
