Internet Computer Slides 7% as Institutional Pressure Breaks Support

by admin August 18, 2025

Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) fell over the last 24 hours, losing 7% of its value.

The token dropped to a low of $5.27, breaking through critical support levels and raising concerns about sustained institutional interest in the project, according to CoinDesk Research’s technical analysis data model.

Market data showed ICP falling below the $5.48 support threshold during the early hours of Aug. 18, with trading activity spiking to 708,905 units, nearly double the daily average of 386,248 units. Analysts flagged this pattern as evidence of coordinated selling among large investors and corporate treasury desks. A bounce was short-lived, with the token falling back to $5.29.

The crypto market at large is dealing with bearish pressure following an ignition of concerns over U.S. inflation after last week’s Producer Price Index (PPI) reading for July 2025 was hotter than expected.

A downturn in the broader crypto market can increase selling pressure on tokens like ICP due to a general risk-off sentiment, reduced liquidity, and the tendency of investors to sell more speculative assets first.

Technical Analysis

  • ICP fell 7% from $5.67 to $5.27 on Aug. 17–18.
  • Critical support level at $5.48 was breached during early Aug. 18 trading.
  • Volume surged to 708,905 units, almost double the 24-hour average of 386,248 units.
  • Recovery attempts failed, with a 1.12% drop from $5.35 to $5.29.
  • Current price consolidation near $5.29 reflects waning institutional participation.

Insurance Against Price Slides in BlackRock’s Bitcoin (BTC) ETF (IBIT) Now Costliest Since April Crash

by admin August 18, 2025

Protection against price drops in BlackRock’s spot bitcoin

exchange-traded fund (ETF), is now at its priciest since the early April market slide.

On Monday, the spread between implied volatilities (IV) for 25-delta puts and 25-delta calls for the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) rose to 4.4, the widest since April 10, according to data source Market Chameleon.

In other words, put options, which insure the buyer against price drops in the underlying asset, traded at a premium of 4.4 IV relative to calls, or bullish bets. It’s a sign investors are increasingly seeking protection against price declines, reflecting growing concerns about IBIT’s near-term outlook.

IBIT gapped lower at $65.72 on Monday, tracking overnight losses in the spot bitcoin market. At press time, the ETF shares were trading at $65.44, down 1.51% for the day, having reached a record high of $69.89 last week, according to data source TradingView.

Bitcoin Bearish Bets Mount: Funding Rates On Binance Slides Into Negative Territory

by admin June 25, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

As Bitcoin gradually recovers from its recent breakdown below the $100,000 mark, it appears to have triggered a fresh wave of bearish activity from investors. Its market dynamics are about to transition as key metrics such as the Funding Rates on the Binance platform have taken a negative turn.

Binance Traders Betting Against Bitcoin

In a dramatic bounce, Bitcoin has reclaimed the $105,000 price mark and is slowly approaching $106,000. While BTC has recovered, the impressive run has been met with negative sentiment, particularly from investors on Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange.

Darkfost, a verified author for CryptoQuant, reported that funding rates on the Binance exchange have declined sharply, signaling a shift in trader sentiment. Data from the expert reveals that the rates dropped to the -0.0033 level just as BTC swiftly bounced back since this past weekend.

This scenario implies that traders are progressively placing bets on further decline, indicating that bearish pressure is building on Binance. Negative funding rates may signal pessimism, but historically, they have also preceded short squeezes. As the price of Bitcoin navigates increased volatility and shifting momentum, this is a crucial period to observe.

According to the on-chain expert, negative financing rates suggest that most open positions are currently short as investors question whether the recent upward move is sustainable. Although this may initially appear to be negative, markets often move against the crowd, particularly when there is an overcrowded short side.

Furthermore, Darkfost has drawn attention to past scenarios, particularly in September last year. During the period, the market constantly shifted in the opposite direction whenever Binance’s funding rates fell into negative territory, whether in the short or medium term.

However, the sole exception was when new tariff policies were announced, momentarily altering market dynamics. If shorts persistently increase on the Binance platform, Darkfost is confident that these positions could eventually bolster the rally that started earlier this week.

Thus far, the expert has offered one key takeaway, stating that it is crucial to understand that the natural tendency of traders leans toward longing the market, which makes this current signal more remarkable.

BTC To Surge To A New All-Time High

After rallying earlier this week, BTC is currently facing significant resistance at the $106,500 threshold. However, this resistance level could give way soon, as Michael Van De Poppe, a market expert, has predicted a major rally to new all-time highs.

According to the expert, Bitcoin is stalling at levels below $106,500 until the next significant surge to new highs occurs. Van De Poppe believes that the anticipated move is only a matter of time, and BTC is likely to reach a new peak in July. Therefore, the expert suggests “buying the dip now is the best strategy.”

‘Skew’ Slides as Oil Prices Surge 6% on Israel-Iran Tensions

by admin June 13, 2025

Bitcoin’s

short-term options skew crashed during the early Asian hours as traders sought downside protection amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, which triggered a sharp rise in oil prices

The seven-day skew, which measures the relative richness of Deribit-listed BTC calls to puts, slid to -3.84%, the lowest since April 16, according to data source Amberdata. In other words, put options offering downside protection became the most expensive relative to calls in three months. The demand for put also pushed the 30-day and 60-day skews into the negative territory.

Traders typically buy put options when seeking to hedge their long positions in the spot or futures market, or to profit from an expected price decline.

Bitcoin’s price fell to its 50-day simple moving average (SMA) at $103,150, extending 24-hour losses to 4.59%, according to CoinDesk data. Prices briefly topped the $110,000 mark early this week. The bulls might be hoping for the 50-day SMA to hold, as a potential decline below it could entice more sellers, as observed after the support broke down in February.

The per-barrel price of WTI crude surged over 6% to $74.30 per barrel, reaching the highest since Feb 3, and extending the weekly gain to 13%, according to data source TradingView. The move happened after Israel conducted airstrikes on Iran, supposedly drawing retaliatory missile action from Tehran.

Inflationary impulse

Sudden oil price spikes tend to generate an inflationary impulse worldwide and the latest one could do so while President Donald Trump’s trade war threatens to upend the economy and inject inflation, particularly in net-importer countries.

All of this could dent expectations for Fed rate cuts, adding to downside volatility in stocks and cryptocurrencies. As of writing, futures tied to the S&P 500 traded 1.5% lower on the day.

Crypto market slides as Israel strikes Iran, tensions rise

by admin June 13, 2025

The cryptocurrency market plunged on Friday, June 13, as rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East rattled investors.

Following news that Israel had launched a major military operation against Iran, digital assets tumbled sharply. The total crypto market capitalization dropped 7% over the past 24 hours to $3.3 trillion.

Bitcoin (BTC) declined around 5%, trading at $103,464 as of press time. Ethereum (ETH) fell 10% to $2,471, while Solana (SOL) dropped 11% to $141. XRP (XRP) and BNB (BNB) also lost ground, down 6% and 4% respectively.

Data from CoinGlass shows that crypto liquidations surged 125% in a single day, reaching $1.2 billion. Open interest across crypto futures markets fell 9.7% to $142 billion, while the relative strength index sank to 28, indicating the market had entered oversold territory.

Despite the selloff, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index, compiled by software firm Alternative, remained in the “Greed” zone at 61, though down 10 points from the previous day. The drop in sentiment reflects investor uncertainty, as traders assess the risk of broader conflict.

The market turmoil followed an early morning attack by Israel on Iran. According to a Reuters report, Israeli forces hit multiple high-value targets, including uranium enrichment facilities in Natanz, ballistic missile production sites, and the headquarters of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard Corps in Tehran. Iranian state media reported the death of General Hossein Salami and civilian casualties, including children.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes marked the beginning of “Operation Rising Lion,” a campaign aimed at neutralizing Iran’s nuclear threat. Israel has declared a state of emergency, closed its main airport, and raised air defenses in anticipation of retaliatory attacks.

Iran has promised a “harsh response.” U.S. secretary of state Marco Rubio confirmed the United States was not involved in the strike, emphasizing that American priorities lie in protecting its forces in the region.

Apart from cryptocurrencies, traditional financial markets bore the brunt as well. U.S. stock futures dropped 1.5% across major indexes, and European markets opened lower by a similar margin. Meanwhile, safe-haven assets surged slightly.

Gold rose 0.75% to $3,428 per ounce, and the 10-year Treasury yield dipped to 4.32%. Crude oil, often seen as a geopolitical risk proxy, surged about 10% to $74 per barrel, according to data from Market Watch.

With tensions climbing and the potential for regional war rising, both crypto and global markets could see continued volatility. Risk appetite may weaken further, pushing capital into safer, more liquid assets until the situation stabilizes.

SUI slides 20% as $4 rally reverses course

SUI slides 20% as $4 rally reverses course

by admin June 3, 2025

SUI, the native token of the Layer 1 blockchain Sui, has entered a period of steady decline after failing to sustain its recent rally above the $4 level.

After briefly breaking above the $4 mark in a May 2025 rally SUI (SUI) has hit a rough patch in recent weeks struggling to maintain its upward momentum. Per recent price performance, the token is down over 7% over the past week, despite recording a modest 1.3% bounce in the last 24 hours.

SUI’s price movement| Source: crypto.news

Trading at $3.32 at press time, SUI’s price is a slight recovery from its low point of $3.07 in the ongoing corrective phase. The token’s value marks a steep 19.8% drop from its monthly high of $4.14 and an approximate 37% from its all-time high of $5.30.

The downturn may be partly attributed to dampened sentiment across the ecosystem following the May Cetus exploit, which resulted in a loss of $260 million. The post-mortem jitters also triggered a decline in the total value locked (TVL) on the Sui network from $2.13 billion to the present $1.75 billion, according to DefiLlama data.

Despite the pullback, optimism for SUI remains. This is fueled by continuous signs of growth across the broader ecosystem, as well as growing bullish whispers of a spot ETF spurred by recent filings from investment firms like 21Shares.

SUI’s recent dip mirrors a broader cooling across the crypto market, although BTC and major altcoins such as ETH and SOL have demonstrated stronger resistance amid the ongoing volatility. Memecoins including POPCAT and WIF defied the larger trend with more impressive gains, posting 14% and 16% respectively.

Ethena slides as $12M token unlock casts shadow over price

Ethena slides as $12M token unlock casts shadow over price

by admin June 2, 2025

Ethena’s native token, ENA, is under pressure ahead of a scheduled token unlock that could stir short-term volatility in the market.

According to data from Tokenomist, 40.63 million Ethena (ENA) tokens, or about $12.73 million, will be unlocked on June 2. The unlock has affected market sentiment even though this only accounts for 0.7% of the supply in circulation. In the past, even minor unlocks have had an impact on prices as investors prepare for possible selling pressure from newly issued tokens.

Just 38% of ENA’s entire supply has been unlocked so far. Ethena’s circulating supply currently stands at 5.82 billion tokens out of a maximum of 15 billion, with a market cap of approximately $1.78 billion and a fully diluted valuation of over $4.56 billion.

As of this writing, ENA is down about 2% over the last day, trading at $0.304. Since late April, the token has been stuck in a downward trend, with the most recent decline reflecting caution before the unlock. ENA is now hovering below key support levels, with technical indicators flashing mixed signals.

At 40.4, the relative strength index indicates neutral momentum but is close to entering the oversold territory. A bearish crossover in the moving average convergence divergence indicates waning momentum. Further supporting the downward trend, ENA is trading below several major moving averages, such as the 10, 20, 50, and 100-day EMAs and SMAs.

After a brief squeeze, the Bollinger Bands are beginning to widen once more, suggesting that volatility may be increasing. Price action is now testing the lower band, which could either act as support or open the door to a sharper decline if broken.

If ENA fails to hold the $0.30 level, a further slide toward the $0.27–$0.25 range is possible, especially if token unlock participants sell into weakness. On the flip side, a short-term recovery might be triggered if ENA can break above the 20-day EMA and reclaim the $0.32–$0.34 range. To support this, there would likely need to be strong ecosystem news or a recovery in overall market sentiment.

Despite the short-term uncertainty, Ethena continues to build. More than 900 million users now have access to Ethena’s decentralized finance thanks to the integration of its yield-bearing USDe stablecoin into the TON blockchain in May. The ongoing testnet for EtherealDEX, a decentralized exchange powered by sUSDe, also shows promise, with a full launch expected later this year.
