Slay the Spire 2 has been delayed but it wasn’t Silksong’s fault, promise

by admin September 14, 2025

Slay the Spire 2, the sequel to the roguelike deck-building game that spawned a genre, has been delayed. Developer Mega Crit had been aiming for an autumn 2025 release, it said, but has now realigned for March 2026.

We don’t know the date but we do, bizarrely, know the day. Mega Crit has already, quirkily, announced that Slay the Spire 2 will be released on a Thursday. According to my calendar, which I presume is the same as yours, it means Slay the Spire 2 will be released on either the 5th, 12th, 19th or 26th March 2026. Maybe provisionally book-off all these days from work?

“We know this isn’t the news anyone wanted to hear,” Mega Crit wrote in a Steam update. “There’s no single dramatic reason [for the delay]. Some personal life stuff hit the team (everyone’s okay!), we kept saying ‘wouldn’t it be cool if…’ one too many times, and honestly, the game just needs more polish to meet our standards.”

Mega Crit added, in a lighthearted delay FAQ accompanying the news, that the delay wasn’t Silksong’s fault, despite appearances. “We got together as a team to determine our new release window before Silksong’s date was announced,” the studio said. “The timing just worked out like that, but on the bright side, everyone can keep busy playing Silksong during the wait!”

Slay the Spire 2 looks a lot like Slay the Spire 1, but upon closer inspection has some notable differences – evolutions, it’s probably fairer to say. A lot of effort has gone into improving the visual presentation of the game – with what appear to be 3D models in 2D environments now – and there’s also apparently a great deal more content stuffed in.

One major change outlined in the post is alternate acts. These allow you to choose different “a” and “b” variations of acts when you replay the game to help ease rerun repetition. Each alteration is said to have “radically” different environments, enemies, events and bosses. The two examples shared in the update were Act 1a variation Overgrowth, a lush jungle-themed alteration; and Act 1b, the Underdocks, a miry waterway.

The Act 1a variation Overgrowth.

The Act 1b variation Underdocks.

Silksong’s Collection Of Weird Little Guys Rules

by admin September 12, 2025

There’s a lot to love about Hollow Knight: Silksong. Conversely, there’s also a lot to throw your controller and crash out about in Team Cherry’s long-awaited Metroidvania sequel. But one thing we can all agree on is that Silksong’s cast of weird little bug creatures are all a bunch of stars. Yeah, some of them are trying to kill you and will probably succeed, but they’re all so full of charm that they steal the show whenever they’re on screen. Hornet may be the star, but she’s got competition for the title of fan favorite.

Silksong maintains the original Hollow Knight’s hand-drawn, almost storybook art style, so even the most badass or grotesque characters in the game have an air of cuteness to them. Shakra, the merchant whom Hornet buys items and equipment from, has been an early standout for players, both for her intense, aura-farming demeanor and the comforting melody she sings when she’s nearby. Hearing Shakra sing is usually a sign of safety, but if an enemy does follow you to her shop, she’ll join the fight and rock their shit.

Shakra’s not the only ally Hornet can meet that has stolen the hearts of Silksong players. Garmond and Zaza are a pair of traveling companions whom Hornet can save from captivity in Greymoor. They can then help you in one of Silksong’s tough boss fights, and after hearing Garmond’s regal-as-fuck battle cry, I would trust him to follow me into any battle.

Not every friendship in Silksong starts out as such, though. The Bell Beast is a large creature Hornet encounters in the Marrow. At first, she is trapped in Silk, and you must free her using your Silk Spear, but then she will attack you, and you’ll have to defeat her and eventually tame the beast. Then she becomes a loyal companion who will help you fast-travel. You can even pet her…kinda!

Hollow Knight’s cute character designs lend themselves to plushes, pins, and other merchandise, so I’m sure we’ll see some of Silksong’s stars joining the likes of Hornet and the Knight in the coming months. A huggable Bell Beast is an easy sell.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first patch will make the early game easier

by admin September 10, 2025

Team Cherry has revealed details of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first patch, which will make the early game a little easier.

That will be welcome news to those playing the game, as it’s proven to be extremely challenging. And not just for its trick bench.

In particular, a couple of early bosses will have “slight difficulty reduction”, on top of other enemies receiving damage reduction, and some increases in rosary rewards.

Hollow Knight: Silksong – Release TrailerWatch on YouTube

The patch is available now for Steam players via the public-beta branch on Steam or GOG, and will be available for all players across all platforms “mid next week”.

The full patch notes, as shared on Steam, are below:

  • Fixed situation where players could remain cloakless after Slab escape sequence.
  • Fixed wish Infestation Operation often not being completable during the late game.
  • Fixed wish Beast in the Bells not being completable when Bell Beast is summoned at the Bilewater Bellway during the late game.
  • Fixed getting stuck floating after down-bouncing on certain projectiles.
  • Fixed courier deliveries sometimes being inaccessible in Act 3.
  • Fixed craft bind behaving incorrectly when in memories.
  • Fixed Lace tool deflect soft-lock at start of battle in Deep Docks.
  • Fixed Silk Snippers in Chapel of the Reaper sometimes getting stuck out of bounds.
  • Fixed Claw Mirrors leaving Hornet inverted if taking damage during a specific moment while binding.
  • Fixed Snitch Pick not giving rosaries and shell shards as intended.
  • Removed float override input (down + jump, after player has Faydown Cloak).
  • Slight difficulty reduction in early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter.
  • Reduction in damage from Sandcarvers.
  • Slight increase in pea pod collider scale.
  • Slight reduction in mid-game Bellway and Bell Bench prices.
  • Slight increase in rosary rewards from relics and psalm cylinders.
  • Increase in rosary rewards for courier deliveries.
  • Various additional fixes and tweaks.

Silksong’s first patch should give you a chance against its early bosses

by admin September 9, 2025

Video game difficulty is a real balancing act. You want to be challenged and earn each new level, but when it’s too hard there’s more frustration than fun. Apparently, a number of players have found the new Hollow Knight: Silksong game a bit too hard, struggling to defeat some of the bosses.

Now, Team Cherry, the indie studio behind the Hollow Knight series, is making things a bit easier. Team Cherry has announced Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s first patch, which includes a “slight difficulty reduction in early game bosses.” This update includes the bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter.

Otherwise, the patch mostly includes bug fixes, such as gamers remaining cloakless or getting stuck floating. It also brings an increase in rosary rewards from relics and psalm cylinders, as well as for courier deliveries. These retroactive updates should come by mid next week, but eager players can join the public-beta to get the fix. Team Cherry notes that its already working on more fixes in a second patch.

The long awaited sequel to Hollow Knight finally launched on September 4, with eager fans crashing Steam, the Nintendo eshop and the Xbox Store. It’s available now for $20.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first patch makes some early bosses slightly easier, out now in Steam and GOG beta

by admin September 9, 2025

The notes for Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first proper post-release patch have arrived. Team Cherry have been busy fixing bugs and making some “slight balance adjustments in the early game”, which you can now give a go early via beta branches on Steam and GOG.

That’ll mean you’re testing the changes ahead of the update’s planned full deployment next week, with Team Cherry aiming for a mid-week arrival “barring any unforeseen issues”. Now you know that, let’s get into the changes, which the studio have outlined in a post on the Steamy platform.

First of all, the bit that might prove controversial among hardened Skongers. As part of those early game balance tweaks, Team Cherry have opted to roll out a “slight difficulty reduction” for the boss fights against Moorwing and Sister Splinter. How you feel about that will likely depend on whether you’ve spent the past few days yelling at folks for seeking out mods or guides to help make their path through the metroidvania a bit less stressful.

Outside of that, the balancing’s also seen Sandcarvers have their damage reduced, plus increases in the rosary rewards dished out by relics, psalm cylinders, and courier deliveries. The prices of bellways and bell benches you run into around the game’s midway point have also dropped a bit. Oh, and there’s been a “slight increase in pea pod collider scale”.

That’s it for the balancing, with the rest being bug fixes for problems like “getting stuck floating after down-bouncing on certain projectiles”, “courier deliveries sometimes being inaccessible in Act 3”, and that “situation where players could remain cloakless after Slab escape sequence” I mentioned in the strap. No prolonged Hornet nudeness for the horn-dogs. Well, coatlessness really, but either way she might have gotten a bit cold, so an important fix.

I’ll list the rest of the fixes below, so you can scan through to see if anything you’ve run into crops up:

  • Fixed wish Infestation Operation often not being completable during the late game.
  • Fixed wish Beast in the Bells not being completable when Bell Beast is summoned at the Bilewater Bellway during the late game.

“All fixes will apply retroactively, so players who’ve hit a significant bug that prevents progress may want to switch over to public-beta to receive the fix,” Team Cherry wrote. “Further fixes are already being worked on for a second patch. If you have an issue and you don’t see the solution in the list above, we may be working on it.”

If you’re planning on jumping into the patch’s Steam beta, instructions for getting access can be found here. Just remember that you’ll likely need to disable any mods, such as these freshly released multiplayer ones, that you’ve got installed first.

Tee Lopes has turned Silksong’s Sherma and Shakra into vocalists for unbearably cute club bangers

by admin September 9, 2025

In Hollow Knight Silksong you’ll eventually meet Sherma, a whimsical pilgrim who loves to belt out a good earworm. While Sherma doesn’t seem very good at the instrument he wields—he basically whacks two nails together towards a discordant “melody”—he’s got a lovely voice on him, especially with an excess of cavernous reverb applied.

Tee Lopes, a videogame composer who’s worked on Sonic Mania and Shredder’s Revenge, to name a few, has released a remix of Sherma’s lil’ jingle. It sounds a lot like that style of saccharine European dance pop that was big in the ’90s and early 2000s: music that resembles Saturday morning cartoons, but which is actually precision-geared for dancing to while high. Very high.

Here it is. I like how Hornet nods out of rhythm in the accompanying video. Bugs will be bugs.

Lopes has also done one for Shakra, whose banger sounds like something the Vengaboys might have released at the height of their inexplicable popularity. In the words of YouTube commenter @Akif-Faisal: “This is what entertainment looks like”.

(It may also look, depending on your temperament, like something akin to torture. Oh, the Mandelbrot complexity of human subjectivity!)

For my money, if Pharloom had a kind of “Top 40” for insects and parasites, I think Shakra’s jam would win out over Sherma’s. Sherma’s, while cute, has a low key darkness to it. It feels like something that could be used towards evil ends.

I spent all weekend playing Hollow Knight Silksong, and here are my impressions.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s early mods sand off its more annoying edges, including double damage and distant spawns

by admin September 9, 2025

Shhhhh. If we’re quiet, we might be able to avoid discourse with this one. If you’ve spent your weekend playing Hollow Knight: Silksong and found that the likes of enemies inflicting double damage and spawns being miles away put a dampner on the fun, mods can help.

I know, I know, these are videogames and we must take their difficulty with the utmost seriousness. How else are any of us supposed to learn important life lessons, like ‘press button dodge at this point’, unless we go through hours of frustration trying to beat one boss (or look such info up)? As such, I stress that these mods, like all mods, are entirely optional. No need to shout at people for using them. Save your voice for singing love ballads to Hornet during breaks in the action.

Right, now I’ve addressed the very powerful elephant in the room, let’s take a gander at Skong’s Nexus Mods page, which has filled out nicely now the metroidvania’s got a weekend under its belt. Silksong’s most endorsed mod thus far is one by Baiker that stops enemies and “normal bosses” from dishing out double damage, while leaving hazards free to keep on punishing you. Don’t look at the comments on it, if you’ve not got your internet argument observation popcorn handy.

Also up there in both the download and endorsement rankings is a mod from XiaoHaiNB, which adds health bars and damage numbers to baddies. Probably my favourites so far are the death counters. You’ve got a choice of two from modders Rexxah and NordboDev, and they’ll just sit there on your HUD, reminding you how many times your abilities have proven to be a bit too hollow shite.

Going back to the easening up, there’s ‘Stakes of Marika – Rebirth Anywhere’ from modder Kassent. As you might expect, this one takes a bit of inspiration from FromSoft’s Ancient Hoop by ensuring that “when you die in a scene, you will respawn at the scene entrance instead of at a bench miles away”. It also lets you set custom respawn points, which is cool.

For those annoyed by Silksong’s insistence on not being able to check where you are on the map at a glance, there’s ‘Always Have Compass Effect’ by Synthlight, which does what it says on the tin. The same modder’s stepped in with a mod that makes delivery items less fragile than a shipment of unpacked wine glasses precariously balanced to form a 20 foot tall tower and positioned next to some partially lit fireworks.

The final mod that’s caught my eye so far is this one for lore enthusiasts, which ensures you only have to kill a single enemy to be able to read their species’ journal entry.

Make sure to check the requirements of each of these if you fancy giving them a go, as most require the likes of BepInEx and MelonLoader to get up and running.

Team Cherry is “working to improve” Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Chinese translation following player complaints

by admin September 9, 2025

Team Cherry said it is “working to improve” the simplified Chinese translation of Hollow Knight: Silksong.

While the highly anticipated sequel holds a Mostly Positive score on Steam, tens of thousands of Chinese players have left negative reviews, criticizing the Chinese localization for its lack of nuance and accuracy.

On X/Twitter, Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin thanked players for their “feedback and support,” and said work on the translation would be ongoing “over the coming weeks.”

“To our Chinese speaking fans: We appreciate you letting us know about quality issues with the current Simplified Chinese translation of Hollow Knight: Silksong,” Griffin wrote.

“We’ll be working to improve the translation over the coming weeks. Thanks for your feedback and support.”

So far, just 38% of players who have left a review of the simplified Chinese version of the Silksong have left a positive review. Overall, the game sits at a Mostly Positive rating.

Hollow Knight: Silksong reached over half a million concurrent players a day after its release on September 4, 2025.

Silksong’s Most Popular Mods Are All About Making The Game Easier

by admin September 9, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong is out. Did you know that? You probably pieced that together. After seven years of waiting, Team Cherry’s long-awaited 2D action-platformer is here and kicking people’s asses. But on PC, thousands of players are using mods to help them overcome the challenging game.

Silksong released late last week on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC after nearly a decade of waiting. And first reactions to the sequel are almost entirely positive, with fans loving the small tweaks to the Hollow Knight formula and the larger size of its world. Plus, that $20 price tag is nice in an era when everything is more expensive than ever. And Silksong, like Hollow Knight, isn’t the easiest game in the world. Many players are even claiming that Silksong is harder than the OG. This has led to a lot of discourse on the internet about how hard it is or isn’t, and about game difficulty in general. But if you’re playing on PC, there’s a solution: Just mod Silksong and make it easier.

If we hop over to Silksong’s mods hub over at NexusMods, a popular PC modding site, you can see there are already 60+ mods available for the recently released platformer. And many of the most popular mods available for the game make it much easier to play. The most popular mods for Silksong include one that adds health meters to enemies, another one that stops enemies from doing double damage to the player, and one that shows the player’s position on the map at all times. All of these mods have over 15,000 downloads. An automapping mod has 9,000 downloads. Another free PC mod that increases how much damage players deal to enemies has over 7,000 downloads.

In fact, the only mod more popular than all of these mods that make Silksong easier is the mod needed to run any of these other creations. That mod, “BepInEx 5 with Configuration Manager,” has over 28,000 downloads as of September 8. That’s a lot of downloads for a game that’s barely been out a week. Of course, not all the mods for Silksong are about making it easier. But those mods, like one that adds ultrawide support and a death counter, only have a few hundred downloads or fewer.

It seems that the people coming to NexusMods for Silksong mods mostly have one goal in mind: Make the game less challenging. I expect reactions to this will vary a lot, but personally, I land on the side of “If folks want to make a game easier or harder with mods, and it doesn’t ruin it for other people, then whatever.” But I’ve been on the web long enough to know that ain’t a universal take.

Watch out, Hollow Knight: Silksong’s hiding a sneaky Stardew Valley creatorman cameo

by admin September 6, 2025

In case you missed it, a plucky little game no one had heard anything about whatsoever arrived yesterday. Hollow Knight: Silksong. Yeah, I know, it’s news to me too. Anyway, what’s also news is that Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone has a voice acting cameo in Skong. Though, he’s being all coy about revealing when and where you can hear his dulcet tones.

This came to light because of some valiant folks who’ve already made it to Silksong’s end credits, presumably having pulled mammoth sessions last night, as our own Ollie did to provide you lot with some helpful early game walkthroughs. Or, you know, they’ve gone to the extras bit of the main menu and pressed the button that rolls the credits.

Barone’s name is just chilling there in a section dedicated to additional characters voices, which also features Team Cherry marketing and publishing fellow Matthew Griffin. Naturally, the question is where do folks have to go to find Barone’s cameo?

According to The Verge, who reached out to ConcernedApe LLC’s head of operations Cole Medeiros, neither he nor Barone would just come out and say where the cameo is, despite confirming it is indeed that Eric Barone. Medeiros told the site that the Stardew and and also Haunted Chocolatier dev would “rather not say which character(s) so as not to spoil any surprises for anyone”.

I’ve not had a chance to join the RPS Skong hive currently reviewing/guiding/Edwining their way through Silksong yet, so I’m gonna take a big old stab in the dark as to which character Barone’s voiced.

It’s this one:

I can’t wait to meet this guy

I stress, that’s a total guess based on zero knowledge or information, just vibes. If it’s correct, everyone who reads this owes me a pound of human flesh to feed Horace. If it’s wrong, I’ll pretend it didn’t happen and probably go dark on the socials for a bit, as is the custom when you’ve callously said something wrong and are a bit embarrassed about it.

Outside of the Barone cameo coming to light, Silksong’s arrival also briefly murdered Steam. The storefront has since been revived by a crack team of medics exhibiting the sort of CPR enthusiasm reserved for those who know their ability to play I Am Jesus Christ’s demo is at stake.
