How to find Broodfeast wish in Silksong

by admin September 8, 2025

Silksong is by no means an easy game, and despite dominating charts and breaking digital storefronts upon its release, players are having a hard time completing it. However, adventuring through the battle-heavy world is a lot easier if you have a few wishes.

Sure, Hollow Knight: Silksong is mostly a battle-fest. You go through each location, destroying enemies in your way and beating brutal bosses. However, there’s so much more to Silksong than destruction – there’s looting, collectables, and of course, upgrades.

Article continues after ad

Upgrades can increase your damage output and overall survivability, which makes getting through Silksong’s harsh environments just that little bit easier. To get those upgrades, you need to unlock some wishes, and one of the most powerful is, undeniably, Broodfeast.

Broodfeast location

You’ll find the Broodfeast Wish in Pharloom, near the Putrified Ducts.

Dexerto / Mapgenie

The best way to find the wish is to look for a hidden exit in Memorium. There’s an exit that requires a double jump to reach, so you’ll need to get the Faydown Cloak from the peak of Mount Fay.

Alternatively, you can access it by defeating the boss in Bilehaven and entering through a hidden passage.

How to get Broodfeast wish

Once you get to the Huntress, who will be waiting for you. You’ll be given the Broodfeast quest, which has you looking for the following:

  • 15 Seared Organs: Found by killing enemies with Flintslate
  • 35 Shredded Organs – Found by killing enemies with Conchcutter or Cogwork Wheel
  • 10 Skewered Organs – Found by killing enemies with Longpin

Essentially, you’ll want to equip these weapons and attack enemies with them. Each enemy you kill with the weapon will drop the respective Organs.

Dexerto

Once you have them all, head back to the Huntress and offer her the items. With that, she’ll grant you the Broodfeast wish, giving you the Longclaw as a reward.

Reward

As we mentioned above, you’ll get the Longclaw when you’re granted the Broodfeast wish. This upgrade is extremely useful as it increases the range of your attacks.

So, that’s all you need to know about how to get the Broodfeast wish in Hollow Knight Silksong. While hunting down those enemies to get the items, be sure to check out how to get the Reaper Crest, all Mossberry locations, or how to upgrade your Needle.

Subnautica 2 trailer still - woman waving
Gaming Gear

With Silksong in our hands, Steam’s new reigning wishlist kings are both kind of basket cases: The partially-released Deadlock and lawsuit lightning rod Subnautica 2

by admin September 8, 2025

Just as prior wishlist chart-toppers The Day Before (lol), Manor Lords, and (briefly) Stray gave way to Hollow Knight: Silksong’s long reign, so too has Team Cherry’s platformer passed the torch to a new contender. Subnautica 2 is now the most wishlisted game on Steam, followed by Valve’s MOBA-shooter Deadlock. Slots three through five are taken up by Battlefield 6, Borderlands 4, and Light No Fire.

Steam’s publicly available data isn’t the end-all, be-all of the hobby—not the least because it doesn’t account for other storefronts or console players—but it is useful for divining trends and getting a snapshot of the current gaming scene.

It’s kind of weird that the two most desired PC games of the moment are such basket cases, right? They boast pre-release anti-hype cycles to give the long Silksong silence a run for its money, yet we apparently can’t get enough of them.

Related articles

Let’s start with Deadlock: Given the fact that it’s an honest-to-god new Valve game, it’s shocking it hasn’t just clinched number one by default. But it’s a kookster: The second most wishlisted game on Steam is already being played for free by tens of thousands of people—about 45k at the time of writing, according to SteamDB.

The game is not out, but we’re already at a point where lapsed players can have discussions about whether or not to come back to it. Before Deadlock’s playtest broke containment, it became the gaming story of the moment despite Valve pretending it didn’t even exist.

At the beginning of Summer 2024 (this thing’s been around for over a year!), screenshots, gameplay footage, and even datamined information was leaking out of the then-secret playtest like a sieve. Valve finally “announced” the game—really just acknowledged it—last August, and the vast proliferation of invites to the invite-only game has effectively soft-launched it.

That might be the most confounding fact of all: Valve invented the early access model, but won’t brand its own, effectively early access game as such. If I’m being honest, I kind of love the chaos of it all, even as I wish the studio would finally tackle a singleplayer game again.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Subnautica subpoena

The number one wishlisted Subnautica 2 has a more familiar, but also troubling story: A falling out and legal clash between senior creative and managerial staff behind the game, one that doesn’t seem likely to resolve in time for Subnautica 2’s projected 2026 early access release.

Studio Unknown Worlds was acquired by publisher Krafton in 2021, and a sequel to the developer’s beloved underwater survival sim, Subnautica, was slated to launch in early access this year. In July, Krafton replaced the senior leadership of the studio: CEO Ted Gill, designer Charlie Cleveland, and co-founder Max McGuire.

The ousted developers say they were terminated unfairly in order to duck paying them a $250 million bonus, and that the game could have still launched in early access this year. Krafton claims the trio dropped the ball, that Subnautica 2 was far behind its agreed-upon early access launch milestones, and that going through with the planned release would have been disastrous.

More than anything, I’m just struck by the anti-charisma of these games and some of their immediate predecessors at the top of the list. A messy lawsuit for Subnautica and a messy not-launch for Deadlock. Silksong gave fans nothing but stony silence for years, and The Day Before seems to have gotten there on accident, much to the detriment of developer Amazing Seasun.

Manor Lords and Stray, while having far less abnormal pre-launches, are still far from traditional blockbusters in character: A hardcore city builder and a moody, meditative indie platformer.

Classico triple-A juggernauts like Borderlands 4 and Battlefield 6 can still make it up there, but that kind of pedigree and budgetary heft isn’t the guarantee of success and popularity it used to be. It’s of a piece with so many of the biggest games in recent years being surprises—Baldur’s Gate 3, Balatro, Helldivers 2, REPO, Palworld—and so many old guard publishers like EA and Ubisoft falling on hard times.

Aside from just making a good game and hoping it catches on, nobody seems to have cracked the code for getting people excited about a new release these days. Most devs can’t just pull a Silksong and say absolutely nothing while a memetic legend spontaneously develops around their project.

Silksong reviews drop to mostly negative for Chinese players due to confusing translations

by admin September 8, 2025

For most Hollow Knight: Silksong players, the combat is challenging and the boss fights are punishing. However, there’s another layer of complexity for anyone playing the sequel in Simplified Chinese: the bizarre translations. On its Steam store page, Silksong currently sits at a “Mostly Positive” rating across reviews in all languages. Once you filter for the Simplified Chinese reviews, the Metroidvania-style game plummets to “Mostly Negative.”

There are plenty of complaints about Silksong being too hard and not rewarding enough, but the translation issues are a common theme across the reviews for Simplified Chinese. In the reviews and comments, players compared the translations to a jarring mix of ancient and modern Chinese. Tiger Tang, who worked on the Simplified Chinese translation of an indie RPG called OMORI, posted on X that the “translation reads like a Wuxia novel instead of conveying the game’s tone,” referencing the literary genre that features martial arts and is often set in ancient China.

The good news is that the team behind Silksong is aware of the translation issues, as indicated by Matthew Griffin, who handles the game’s marketing and publishing. Griffin posted on X that the team is aware of “quality issues with the current Simplified Chinese translation” and that they are “working to improve the translation over the coming weeks.” When looking at the original Hollow Knight, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, even when looking at the Simplified Chinese reviews. However, Silksong credits a team of two for its Chinese localization, while the original featured six.

You’ve all been playing too much Silksong this weekend, have some sleepy videogame soundtracks so you can finally get a little shuteye

by admin September 7, 2025

I’ll tell you something, I’ve been tired this week. Summer is winding down in the northern hemisphere, the days are getting shorter, and I feel like my body is already preparing to go deep into a winter hibernation. Hot chocolates, caning an entire sleeve of biscuits and then feeling mildly gross afterwards, scorching my skin under an electric blanket. All that good stuff.

Soundtrack Sunday

Welcome to Soundtrack Sunday, where a member of the PC Gamer team takes a look at a soundtrack from one of their favourite games—or a broader look at videogame music as a whole—offering a little backstory and recommendations for tracks you should be adding to your playlist.

As the temperature starts to shift, I find the music I listen to does with it. I crave mellow beats and twinkly chimes as it gets colder—like a MIDI fluffy blanket. Videogame music is literally perfect for this. If there’s a mood I’m in, there is almost definitely a videogame soundtrack out there that fits my desired vibe perfectly: cleaning, working out, writing, and of course, falling asleep.

I think part of that is just down to how we engage with music in videogames compared to any other medium. A film score might only need to orchestrate a short battle, or a fleeting moment, and an artist’s album is often more a reflection of themselves than of a world built around their music.

Related articles

But videogame music can end up playing for hours on end, as big a storytelling device as the narrative or the characters, leading to this delicate balance of the genre where its looping melodies can’t be too invasive but neither can they be too forgettable. It’s that balance that makes it so perfect—the music finds the perfect nook in the back of my brain to snuggle up in.

Nostalgia almost certainly plays a part in crafting cosy videogame playlists, too. While I’ll happily listen to chilled-out tunes from games I’ve never touched, I always get the biggest fuzzies from the ones I have a huge emotional attachment to.

I would argue that Nintendo easily has the cosy videogame music market cornered—Animal Crossing hourly music is a mainstay in my relaxing playlists, and The Legend of Zelda has some some straight bangers—but that doesn’t mean PC gaming is bereft of snug tunes that wouldn’t sound amiss amongst a crackling fireplace.

If you’re also feeling the changing seasons waning on you, maybe drop a few of these tracks before bed or while curling up with a good book. Assemble a videogame playlist so snug as a bug in a rug that you accidentally hole up in a Stardew Valley-induced winter coma for the next three months.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

C418 – Sweden

Minecraft Volume Alpha – 18 – Sweden – YouTube

Watch On

For a game that can give vibes so deeply unsettling—I once got into a proper tizzy as a child when I became lost in a giant cave while zombies groaned and spiders screeched—Minecraft somehow manages to envelop all of that in one of the most beautifully comforting soundtracks.

While the survival crafting game continues to put out very good music, Volume Alpha, the original soundtrack composed by Daniel ‘C418’ Rosenfeld, is where some of its best tracks lie. His approach to creating a simplistic, ambient soundscape is where so much of Minecraft’s charm lies, but those songs still hold much of the same power outside those blocky walls.

There are so many good tracks to choose from here, but nothing gives me the fuzzies more than Sweden. There’s a reason it’s the most popular one—the gentle piano that gradually increases in velocity as strings enter into the party.

It’s incredibly simple—as much of the early Minecraft music is—but it’s what makes Sweden work so dang well. The same melody looping, occasionally with different instruments, giving a sense of familiarity that lends itself so well to being cosy as hell. A crazy good gem of videogame music.

ConcernedApe – Dance of the Moonlight Jellies

Dance of the Moonlight Jellies – YouTube

Watch On

Bar Minecraft, Stardew Valley may well be the de facto cosy PC game. For the current vibes, nothing felt more fitting than chucking Dance of the Moonlight Jellies on this list. It’s a song that plays during the festival of the same name in late summer—hey, that’s where we’re at right now—in an incredibly serene moment of jellyfish lighting up the nighttime sea.

It’s got all that twinkly goodness I was yapping about earlier, and is a song I could easily listen to on loop over and over again. The fact that Eric Barone was able to compose such a cracking soundtrack while also, you know, making the entire game, is a ridiculous feat and I will forever be envious of that man’s talent.

FoldEcho — Stellar Fishing Ground

Stellar Fishing Ground – YouTube

Watch On

Infinity Nikki has a song for just about every damn thing in that game, but the one that always has me sticking around to listen is the song that plays at the Stellar Fishing Ground. It genuinely bums me out that it’s barely a minute long on Spotify, because it perfectly captures that simplistic ambience I love so much about other entries on this list.

The melody is minimalistic, almost reminiscent of late-night Animal Crossing hourly music, and I’ve fallen asleep to a looping playlist of just this song more times than I can count. Maybe it’s the Nintendo-ness of it that makes me feel weirdly nostalgic for it, despite not even being a year old.

Masayoshi Soken – Serenity

Speaking of nostalgia, this is a song I have heaps of it for. I’ll always have a soft spot for early Final Fantasy 14 tracks as someone who’s been playing for over 10 years now, and I’m especially biased towards the music of Gridania. It’s where I started as a hopeless catgirl archer all the way back in 2014, and while most of my days are spent in Limsa now (as is the way), I’ll forever love the Shroud for all its foresty warmth.

That’s exactly why I had to pick Serenity—though Endwalker’s One Small Step is an incredibly close second choice. It’s the field theme for the lands beyond the city of Gridania, and always throws me back to memories of spamming levequests and tackling FATEs I most certainly was not equipped to handle. It’s got all the things I love in a relaxation/sleep playlist—piano, soft strings, delicate melodies. It’s almost Tolkeinesque in its sound, something I wouldn’t feel amiss hearing in a Lord of the Rings film.

The “Piano Collections” version of Serenity is equally excellent, with resident pianist Keiko somehow making the entire track even more tranquil than its original.

Toby Fox – Shop

I played Undertale many moons ago and honestly cannot remember much about it (I know, I’m sorry) but the OST has always stuck with me. This is another case of one person being able to do it all, with creator Toby Fox also penning the soundtrack.

I’d argue that Megalovania isn’t exactly prime dreamland material, but Shop certainly is. It toes the line of being just mildly unsettling in the way almost all of Undertale is, but strangely homely at the same time.

It’s another track on the shorter side, but still packs a real peaceful punch. It’s a little less ambient than some of the other tracks on this list, but that’s kinda what I dig about it, with a wonderful blend of retro chiptune style and piano taking turns throughout the 50-second track.

How to get the Wanderer Crest in Silksong

by admin September 7, 2025

The Wanderer Crest is an optional upgrade in Hollow Knight: Silksong that transforms Hornet’s attack patterns and playstyle.

Essentially, the Wanderer Crest is the counterpart to the Reaper Crest, trading the latter’s stronger-but-slower attacks for quick, successive strikes. While the former does less damage per swing, each attack is faster, granting Hornet better mobility and evasive capabilities.

To get this upgrade, however, you’ll need to venture through the dank Wormways. Here’s everything you need to know about getting your hands on the Wanderer Crest.

Article continues after ad

Where to find the Wanderer Crest

The Wanderer Crest is obtained from the Wanderer Chapel in Bone Bottom. While it’s located in one of Silksong’s first areas, though, it won’t be immediately accessible. Before beginning the journey, you’ll first need to acquire the Drifter’s Cloak from Far Fields by following the story.

Once you’ve obtained that nifty upgrade, return to Bone Bottom via Bellway and climb above the town until you reach a series of cages hanging in the sky. You’ll need to use the Dash and Drifter’s Cloak to traverse these and reach the Western side of the chasm.

If you’re in the correct place, you should find an entrance to a new zone, the Wormways.

The Wormways is a relatively small zone containing no boss. However, it’s extremely dark, cramped, and per its namesake, infested with giant worms that hamper your traversal.

To reach the Wanderer Chapel, you’ll want to enter Wormways via the southernmost entrance and head West. Keep going past the first hole in the floor and drop down the second. Keep following this path until you reach the zone-break pictured above.

You’ll now be back in Bone Bottom, but on the far Western side, past the sewer drain blocked off from the East. Make sure to go this direction first to flip a switch and open the shortcut, allowing you easy access to the Bone Bottom town and Bench.

Once that’s done and assuming you’re coming from the Bone Bottom Bench, simply head as far West as possible to reach the Wanderer Chapel. See the picture below for reference.

Complete the Wanderer Chapel combat trial

Just like the Reaper Chapel, you’ll need to traverse a small, linear dungeon to reach a combat trial. Once you enter the trial room, you’ll be locked in and required to defeat several waves of enemies.

Emerge victorious, and the doors will swing open, allowing you to progress to the inner sanctum and claim your reward, the Wanderer Crest.

Fans of the original Hollow Knight are likely to favor this Crest, as it replaces Hornet’s moveset with that of the first game’s titular hero.

Unlike Hunter and Reaper, the Wanderer Crest has no blue tool slot by default. Instead, you’ll have one red and two yellow, and will need to use Memory Lockets found in the world to add more blue or red slots.

That’s a wrap on how to get one of Silksong’s most important early game upgrades, but if you’re looking for more guides, check out how to get your hands on Mossberries, unlock the Dash skill, and upgrade your weapon.

How to get the Reaper Crest in Silksong

by admin September 7, 2025

The Reaper Crest is a powerful upgrade in Hollow Knight: Silksong that completely alters Hornet’s attack patterns and playstyle.

In addition to making her standard attacks do more damage – the trade-off being a slower attack speed – the Reaper Crest also allows Hornet to generate more Silk from defeated enemies, allowing her to heal and use Silk skills more often.

To get the upgrade, however, you’ll have to first get to Greymoor. Here’s everything you need to know about getting your hands on the Reaper Crest.

Article continues after ad

Where to find the Reaper Crest

The Reaper Crest is obtained from the Reaper Chapel in Greymoor. However, getting hold of the upgrade isn’t as simple as walking in the front door and taking your spoils.

In order to reach the Crest, you’ll first need to traverse the Chapel and complete a combat trial at the end. See the Chapel’s entrance marked on Greymoor’s map below.

Article continues after ad

If you’re having trouble finding the Chapel without the Greymoor map, you can return to Bone Bottom to purchase it for Rosary Beads from Shakra or find her on the East side of Greymoor. A Bellway to fast travel back to Bone Bottom can be found almost directly East of the Chapel, as shown on the map.

Article continues after ad

Once you’ve found the Chapel, head inside.

Complete the Reaper Chapel combat trial

The Reaper Chapel is a relatively small, mostly linear side dungeon. Descend the Chapel’s platforms while sticking to the Eastern wall until you find a vertical corridor that loops counterclockwise back towards the entrance.

In the final room, you’ll be locked in and required to defeat a series of increasingly difficult enemies. Triumph, and the final door will open, leading to the inner sanctum and your reward, the Reaper Crest.

Article continues after ad

Like the default Crest Hornet starts with, the Reaper Crest comes with one yellow, red, and blue tool slot, with one more of each able to be added with the use of upgrade materials.

Article continues after ad

In addition to the additional damage and Silk generation, the Reaper Crest replaces Hornet’s 45-degree angle dive with a more vertical aerial attack, making bouncing off red bulbs and other rebound surfaces much easier.

That’s a wrap on how to get one of Silksong’s most important early game upgrades, but if you’re looking for more guides, check out how to get your hands on Mossberries, unlock the Dash skill, and upgrade your weapon.

How to get the Sting Shard weapon in Hollow Knight Silksong

by admin September 7, 2025

As you start your journey in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you only have your trusty needle and your wits to help you along your way. Thankfully, there are a few weapons you can pick up along the way, and one particular NPC has a few different tools to assist you.

Image via Team Cherry

Deep down in the Deep Docks, you can find the Forge Daughter, and this character has quite a few items for sale that will help you navigate the area and thwart the local foes.

First up, you can find the Forge Daughter at the location marked on the image below. They are located to the right of the central bench in the area, and after you drop down from the main route, move to the right. If you find a room with lava flowing in the background, head up and hit the switches to emerge in the right room.

Image via Team Cherry

Once you find the Forge Daughter, they have several helpful things for sale:

ItemDescriptionRosarie CostCraftmetal CostSting ShardA vicious stabbing trap? We can build it. Just know, it disturbs us, these devious implements you conceive to kill. 1401Magma BellForged iron bell, crafted to ward against the intense heat of the Deep Docks. Reduces the damage taken from flame and magma.1101Crafting KitCrafting by claw alone produces inferior results. With this kit, you can craft finer, sharper, and deadlier tools… if that is your wish. 180N/ASharp BundleTo maintain one’s tools is a constant task. These shards should be kept close when you travel, so you can repair and replenish as the need arises.50N/A

When it comes to what you should spend your hard-earned cash on, only you can decide, but for us, the Sting Shard is a fantastic addition to Hornet’s arsenal. Otherwise, using the magma bell to avoid some environmental damage has also been fantastic. Of course, if you have enough rosaries, then you can do as you please.

Please note, this is all we know about the Forge Daughter so far. Like many things in the original Hollow Knight, we expect the character’s location to change as they could pop up elsewhere. Plus, the shop line-up could change once everything is out of stock. We’ll update this guide as and when we get any new information.

How to upgrade Needle in Hollow Knight Silksong

by admin September 7, 2025

Screenshot by Destructoid

You’ll take a long time to get an upgrade.

|

Published: Sep 5, 2025 12:24 pm

You unlock the Needle upgrade in Hollow Knight: Silksong by speaking to Pinmaster Plinney in Bellhart. It’s as simple as that, but the path to get to this point is difficult because you need to defeat two strong bosses almost back-to-back.

Bellhart is the haunted city you find right after defeating Moorwing in Greymoor. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, bad news: You’re too far from the Needle upgrade and should wait until you defeat Moorwing, which is the fifth boss in Silksong and the one that follows Fourth Chorus.

Pinmaster Plinney is in that haunted city, but before you can find and speak to him, you need to purify Belhart by defeating the area’s boss. To free the city, go all the way to the left from Haunted Belhart, and you’ll be in the new area of Shellwood.

Shellwood expands west and upwards, so you’ll need to do a lot of platform jumping to navigate it. Your key goal in this area is to defeat the Sister Splinter boss and unlock the Wall Jump, also known as Cling Grip. Once you do so, go all the way to the upper right of Shellwood to transition into the upper part of Belhart. You’re about to head to another boss fight, so make sure to save on a bench close to Bellhart.

Once in upper Belhart, head down carefully and east. I say “carefully” because almost every drop is protected by a moving bug with a huge bell on its head, which damages Hornet if she touches it. You’ll need to have precise timing and use Cling Grip to avoid damage as you head down.

Fight the Widow

You’ll eventually hear a creature groaning under you, and that’s where you’ll fight a boss called Widow. The trick here is to pay attention to where Widow’s silk strings point to at all times, as they indicate where an attack is coming to get you. If you want a preview of the fight, check the video below.

Once you defeat Widow, you’ll have to play through a jumping puzzle in a short cutscene. The trick here is to move quickly since all platforms disappear in about two seconds after you step on them, taking a few extra seconds to reappear. Use your Cling Grip to jump from wall to wall and, when holding onto a wall, dash without jumping to clear gaps between adjacent walls. Reach the end of the puzzle and you’ll be back in Bellhart, which won’t be haunted anymore.

Pinmaster Plinney location

Pinmaster Plinney is exactly where Hornet’s icon is on this map. Screenshot by Destructoid.

Pinmaster Plinney is back in Belhart, along with other NPCs. His shop is in the top right corner of the city. To get there, go all the way to the left of Belhart, staying inside the city, and jump on the metal platforms to go up. Head right, where the first shop on a platform is Relic Seeker Scrounge’s. Ignore it for now and jump to the platforms to the right of it, where you’ll see a bell house with needles painted on a sign on top of it. That’s where Pinmaster Plinney is.

This is Plinney’s hut. Screenshot by Destructoid.

Go in and talk to Pinmaster Plinney, who will upgrade your Needle for free after a cool cutscene. If you’ve done everything right, you’ll see a “Needle Sharpened” text on the bottom left of your screen after the cutscene ends.

Now, Hornet’s Needle is stronger, and you can hopefully take down enemies in fewer hits than before.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is out now on Steam – our review is on the way

by admin September 7, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong has officially buzzed across the thin red line between “entirely hypothetical object of mass hysteria” and “existing videogame that you can play on your PC”. Team Cherry’s new metroidvania is live now on Steam and GOG. You can actually buy it with your actual money. Should you buy it? Sadly, I don’t yet have a Hollow Knight: Silksong review for you, because Team Cherry have decided not to distribute any codes in advance. If you’re reading a Silksong review right now, the reviewer is either a worryingly close confidant of the developers or a filthy bloody liar or some other, totally innocent third thing.

The absence of early review code reflects the fact that Silksong already has more Hype than most messiahs, partly thanks to Team Cherry’s long silence about gameplay specifics and Silksong’s release date, after an initial flurry of publicity in 2019. Only GTA 6 has attracted this many conspiracy theorists. Team Cherry need attention from reviewers at this point like a drowning person needs a glass of water. Which does not make it acceptable, of course, for a company to purposefully delay access to review code and so, deny players a proper assessment before launch.

A lot of the Hype has arrived care of the Silksong subreddit, who are in both a celebratory and a mourning mood today. “God help me I don’t know where to start,” writes one of the founding moderators, zoravy. “Thank you everyone for the insanity and fun I never could’ve predicted when starting this place up in 2021, this has genuinely been one of the funnest places to be on all of the internet, and its been an honour to see every bit of it, from the start.”

It’s certainly been a journey. Wired have published a good piece about the meta-gaming of Silksong anticipation, with subreddit subscribers not just fomenting speculation about release details but actively making things up and trolling each other. Major events include the “sacrificing” of certain users to Silksong – that is, they were banned from the subreddit, and only permitted to return after launch. There was also a running joke about fake copies being distributed by “Snosk”, a fully manifested version of one of Hollow Knight’s hidden bosses. To this, add my own reporting about that cake.

The original Hollow Knight is a game of copious, wriggling lore and layered interpretations, so all of this fannish roleplaying is entirely appropriate. If only I could persuade the dang Final Fantasy 9 remake rumour-mongers to think this way.

We may not have a review as yet, but we do have James’s hands-on verdict from Gamescom. “It’s a little quicker, a little more dynamic, and to these fingers, a little more difficult than the first Hollow Knight,” he wrote. “But it entirely preserves that tight-as-a-drum feel of the original’s sword swishing, and deploys it against insectoid baddies that challenge and frustrate in practically identical ways.”

We also, rather terrifyingly, have the prospect of Silksong DLC. For context, Silksong itself began life as a humble Hollow Knight DLC pack, before it transcended those mortal confines and levelled up into a piece of internet phantasmagoria.

Are you buying today? Good luck to you. Let us know how you get on.
