Hollow Knight Silksong ‘Special Announcement’ Set For August 21

by admin August 19, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong has been so anticipated for so many years that it’s become a meme, crowding the chat of every major game showcase of the last seven years. While we’ve had recent glimpses, like the announcement that it was coming to Switch 2, we haven’t heard a concrete update from Team Cherry since its announcement that it wouldn’t be releasing in 2023. This week, that will finally change.

Team Cherry’s official YouTube channel has a premiere set for Thursday, August 21, at 10:30 AM ET/ 7:30 AM PT. Its title reads, “Hollow Knight: Silksong – Special Announcement,” while the caption simply reads, “The countdown is on! Join us in 48 hours for a special announcement about Hollow Knight: Silksong!” It is unclear what exactly this announcement will involve, but fans are mostly just hoping for a release date.

Despite the general lack of information, Silksong is playable at this year’s Gamescom, according to Xbox, and it will be available on Microsoft’s ROG ALLY device, so we’re expecting some kind of announcement during Opening Night Live in a few hours. Geoff Keighley seemed to support this by posting a photo with a clown nose, potentially referencing the meme of Hollow Knight’s protagonist in clown attire that’s posted whenever we don’t get news about its sequel.

However, partnered with this announcement is a series of Bluesky posts from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who is known for accurately digging up information from behind the scenes of the games industry. Not only does he claim to have “the story behind why Silksong took seven years to make,” citing a video call he did with Team Cherry’s founders earlier this month, he also says, “No, Silksong’s release date will not be announced today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, despite Geoff Keighley’s teasing.” Team Cherry’s Thursday announcement will come after Opening Night Live, however, so there’s a chance we might get a date then. While Schreier has a solid track record in this line of work, none of this is confirmed, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Regardless of when it drops or what this trailer will bring, people will be there to watch it. With 15,000 in the YouTube audience a full 47 hours before it even happens, it’s safe to say this is one of the most anticipated games of the decade. Here’s hoping Team Cherry gives them something to get excited about.

No Hollow Knight: Silksong release date announcement today as Special Announcement is scheduled for Thursday

by admin August 19, 2025

A Hollow Knight: Silksong “Special Announcement” is planned for Thursday, with the video set to run on YouTube at 3.30pm BST on 21st August.

Watch on YouTube

The news of a “Special Announcement” on Silksong comes after speculation (not unwarranted) that the game would be shown off during Gamescom ONL tonight, with a release date potentially being revealed.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier‬ posted on Bluesky to confirm that Silksong would not be having its release date revealed tonight:

“No, Silksong’s release date will not be announced today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, despite Geoff Keighley’s teasing,” read the post.

Game Features

  • Discover a whole new kingdom! Explore coral forests, mossy grottos, gilded cities and misted moors as you ascend to the shining citadel at the top of the world.

Hollow Knight: Silksong teased for a re-reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live today

by admin August 19, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong looks increasingly likely to be shown off in some form this evening at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Show host and producer Geoff Keighley tweeted a selfie while wearing a red nose, heavily pointing towards the game showing up at ONL tonight.

The Hollow Knight clown image has become a popular meme around every possible Silksong re-reveal, fans posting it every time they get their hopes up only for them to be dashed at lack of new info.

We already know Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at Gamescom on the show floor, so it’s not a massive leap to expect to see it kick off the show at ONL. Whether or not we get a release date alongside new gameplay, well, that might be asking for a lot, but if the game is going to release in 2025 we’d expect to be getting that info in the near future.

Gamescom ONL kicks off properly at 7pm BST today, with a pre-show expected beforehand.

How To Watch Silksong, Fallout Season 2, And More

by admin August 19, 2025

Everyone is waiting for Hollow Knight: Silksong to come out. It’s the most wishlisted game on Steam. You can’t watch a new gaming showcase these days without the chat being flooded with stuff like “Show Silksong? Where is Silksong? Silksong when?” Due out before the end of 2025, time is running out for a release date announcement or even a same-day shadow-drop. With Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live just around the corner, could this finally be the moment of truth? Host Geoff Keighley is certainly acting like it.

Gaming’s veteran hype man has been sharing images of Gamescom ONL prep, including one of him in front of a mirror wearing a clown nose. It’s a clear wink to the Silksong fanart clown makeup meme about perpetual disappointment. The trend started years ago when developer Team Cherry was MIA, but hit a new fever pitch after Xbox claimed Silksong would arrive in 2022, only for it to never come out. Many gaming showcases have come and gone since, with the Metroidvanaia Soulslike only ever appearing briefly as part of a sizzle reel here and there.

First time? 🤡

See you tomorrow for @gamescom ONL. pic.twitter.com/59ef5sFysJ

— Geoff Keighley (@geoffkeighley) August 18, 2025

Keighley is either tipping his hand that big Silksong news is just around the corner or paving the way for the biggest collective letdown ever. Since the game will be playable at multiple booths on the Gamescom show floor, my money’s on the former. It’s coming to Switch but has also been promised to be available day-one on the Xbox Ally PC gaming handheld, rumored to release in October. Plus, the soundtrack was just added to the backend of GOG.

Keighley’s showcase will take place on August 19, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. ET. It will run approximately two hours with a pre-show that starts at 1:30 p.m. ET. You can stream it live on both YouTube and Twitch. The event tends to have new game announcements sprinkled in with trailers and updates on already revealed games coming out in the next few months, plus occasionally brief intros from the developers themselves. This year’s Gamescom ONL will also include a live orchestra performance of music from surprise hit Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and the first footage of Fallout season 2.

What games will be shown at Gamescom ONL?

Beyond the tease for Silksong, Keighley has already confirmed the following nine games will also make an appearance:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
  • Resident Evil Requiem
  • Ghost of Yotei
  • Ninja Gaiden 4
  • The Outer Worlds 2
  • Silent Hill f
  • World of Warcraft: Midnight
  • Black Myth: Wukong
  • Lords of the Fallen 2

Black Ops 7 is expected to reveal the first footage from its updated multiplayer, while Black Myth: Wukong is headed to Xbox this week and could potentially be showing off its long-rumored DLC expansion. With no BlizzCon this year, Microsoft will also be using ONL to debut the next World of Warcraft expansion, though a much bigger deal would be if it ever gets a much-requested console port. And what about Diablo 4‘s recently leaked Paladin subclass, rumored to be part of its next expansion? The Outer Worlds 2 is Microsoft’s other big fall release, but with few updates on its biggest in-development games at its Xbox showcase in June, there are plenty of other big releases that could make surprise appearances at ONL.

We haven’t heard much from Ubisoft this year either. Amid big delays and internal restructurings, the French publisher declined to hold its usual Summer Game Fest-adjacent June showcase. With the next Far Cry, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell remakes all in development, any one of them could get a tease at Gamescom. The developers behind The Division 2 have already teased news on the ongoing loot shooter’s big winter update. Who knows, maybe Gamescom 2025 is when Beyond Good and Evil 2 will finally resurface!

Hello Games fans enter the early stages of Silksong syndrome after Light No Fire is a Summer Game Fest no-show

by admin June 16, 2025

In late 2023, Hello Games announced Light No Fire, a grand fantasy follow-up to sci-fi hit No Man’s Sky. The reveal promised a sprawling world—literally the size of our own Earth—to make your own in a survival adventure. It was a huge promise, perhaps too much for a studio with a history of overpromising.

Since then we’ve got nearly nothing. No more big promises, no more trailers. No fuel for some immense, terrible beast of a hype train destined to destroy itself upon release. Just some moderate fan art output.

Naturally, this is anathema to the modern gamer, who demands frequent development updates. I’m afraid, then, to report that Light No Fire watchers are likely entering the early stages of what I’m calling Silksong Syndrome—the uncontrollable craving that consumed fans of Hollow Knight after years with no major news about its expansion.

Related articles

The Light No Fire subreddit is a key place to see it in action, where a handful of posts speculate over year-and-a-half-old trailer stills and post cryptically about the “bacon” and post very sad images of facepalms and talk about “huffing copium” because they saw nothing Light No Fire-related during Summer Games Fest 2025.

“Now I understand Tweakers,” says one post among many.

I can’t really blame Hello Games for not saying too much because, again, it’s famous for that one time No Man’s Sky failed to meet the expectations its marketing and fan speculation built for it. (Though it has since become one of gaming’s most famous comeback stories.)

You can see everything we know about Light No Fire on our dedicated page for that. It’s interesting, but it’s not much. God help the early superfans of this game. They probably have a long road ahead of them.

Hollow Knight: Silksong release once again confirmed 2025

by admin June 8, 2025

After what has felt like eons of waiting and wondering (and, for some people, setting up summoning circles), we still don’t have a firm relesae for Silksong, but Xbox has confirmed again iw will at least be some time this year.

The news was shared by Xbox’s Sarah Bond, when she was chatted about handheld devices (more on that in another article which I will link back to once it is live).

So, it isn’t much, but yay for another Silksong mention! We are getting closer, people.

Of course, the time for an actual launch date has to come eventually, and more recently the signs were pointing to an imminent release. Just this week, Silksong updates on SteamDB got fans predicted some kind of shadow drop or launch news, while a Switch 2 teaser from April assured fans that the Hollow Knight follow up would arrive this year.

SteamDB changes might finally herald the end of a long wait for Silksong (again), though with SGF on the horizon, I think Team Cherry has the potential to do the funniest thing of all time

by admin June 3, 2025

Every time I write about Silksong, I feel as though I’m inching closer to an abyss of madness from which there is no return. Each article starts the same—a rite for the uninitiated, an explanation that yes, this game really was announced in 2019, and yes, it really was stated to be coming out “in the next 12 months” in 2022, and yes, fan hopefuls really did wait three more years for a hilariously short clip in a 2025 Nintendo direct promising a release date this year with zero other specifics.

Now, from the bottom of a well of conspiracy, a scrap comes tumbling down the cobbled walls: There’ve been more SteamDB changes that… wait holy crap, these might actually mean something.

As spotted by eagle-eyed industry buff Wario64 on X, several SteamDB updates have been published for Hollow Knight: Silksong, which have quickly gained traction as a deep hit of hopium on the unfailingly unhinged subreddit, with nary a “silkpost” flair in sight.

The main meat is the introduction of achievement languages, which are a pretty good sign the game’s nearing completion—you generally don’t decide what achievements are going to be notable, then translate them unless you’re pretty certain you won’t be making any more structural changes to your game.

Even more hype came down the pipeline when some depots changed. A depot, as explained by the Steamworks documentation, is “a logical grouping of files which are all delivered to a customer as a single group”, which then gets “downloaded and ‘mounted’ on their local drive” when you download a game. The last time one of these depots changed was in 2019, when the game was first announced.

While I don’t think user HHrnz, who spotted the change, is exactly right when they say “This is pretty much confirmation that the game is complete and ready to have its release date announced,” it is a sign that something is going on. And as a resolute skonger, something is always able to be everything.

I’m about to call an utterly unfounded shot, with zero basis in reality and all the hope of someone shouting ‘Kobe!’ from halfway down the court, but, just think about it—Summer Games Fest is coming up. Heaps upon heaps of trailers and events and showcases. What is the funniest thing that Team Cherry could possibly do after six entire years of anticipation?

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

A shadow drop. Just… put it out there. After all, who needs pithy things like press releases or developer diaries when you’ve got a swarm of feverish hollows clamouring for your next game? The Switch 2 is here. The ground is ripe, and the marketing does itself in a resounding swarm of skong.
