The Game Informer Show Podcast Is Back!

by admin June 5, 2025

Alongside the rest of the magazine and website, The Game Informer Show podcast took an unexpected hiatus last year. We’ve been hard at work getting our feet back under us, making lots of behind-the-scenes efforts on the website, and working toward bringing back the physical magazine. It’s kept us busy!

But ahead of the magazine officially returning, Summer Game Fest activities, and the launch of Switch 2, we wanted to make sure we had an outlet to share our conversations and have you listen in. Alex Van Aken, Marcus Stewart, Charles Harte, and I have the first episode in the can where we talk about the shutdown and how it affected us, what we’ve been playing, and lots more.

That episode isn’t available quite yet, but we wanted to make sure you know where to subscribe to the show when the first episode drops on Friday, June 6.

You can find some direct links below or watch a video version of the podcast on our YouTube channel. You can also search for The Game Informer Show wherever you listen to podcasts.

We’re looking forward to your feedback!

The Kingmakers system requirements show that the hardest part of running the game may be finding 80 GB free for the install

by admin May 30, 2025

The Kingmakers system requirements have just been revealed, and it is looking incredibly easy to run. Given how ambitious the game is, and the fact that it’s built in Unreal Engine 5 despite those specs, I can only hope it runs as easily as it is to play.

As spotted by PCGamesN, you have to go somewhere no person should ever set foot in to find the Kingmakers system requirements: the Epic Games Store. Notably, the Steam page for the game doesn’t have system requirements yet.

To run Kingmakers on Minimum settings, you need a 10th Gen Intel Core i5 processor or better. This could be a chip like the Intel Core i5 10600K, a relatively modest chip from 2020 we rather liked.

Alongside this, you will need at least an RTX 2060. These two specs aren’t too tough at all, given a budget to mid-range rig from 2020 can run Kingmakers.

The biggest problem many rigs from that era will have is finding the 80 GB of storage to actually download the game. Whereas the 8 GB memory requirement feels almost unheard of for a game of its size launching later this year.

Even running the game on Recommended settings isn’t too bad. You will need a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, or better, and an RTX 3070 to run the game. The RAM requirement jumps to a still pretty decent 16 GB, and, as is to be assumed, the storage requirements stay the same.

There are a few things worth noting about the way these system requirements are set up. For one, they’re only available in the Epic Games Store, and before release, so they are subject to change. No commitment to system requirements on Steam is certainly a strange choice. It also lacks AMD in both the CPU and GPU categories (sorry team red), but I’m hoping we get clearer spec requirements closer to its release.

Kingmakers feels like a game conjured up by 12-year-old me. You play a soldier in the middle of a medieval battle, except you now have a gun, and there’s also a time-bending element, explaining where you got all that gear from. It’s part action game, part RTS, and built in Unreal Engine 5. This is a bit of a strange choice, as strategy games need to produce a high density of bodies, and UE5 shines in those close-up environments. Early trailers certainly look a tad grainy, but that could be down to any number of post effects or even (shudders) motion blur.

The game launches into early access on October 8, so we’re hoping for a little more information on how the game runs, what it’s about, and if we need to do any more upgrades to get it running. As the requirements look right now, there’s a good chance you don’t. I may just have to delete one or two things.

Hot Farmers, Trad Wives, and an Immigrant Reality Show: Welcome to TV’s MAGA Era

by admin May 26, 2025

Talk shows are also being encouraged to shift their programming. In a recent meeting with the cohosts of The View, the popular morning gabfest with Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic urged the women to soften their criticisms of Trump, saying “the panel needed to broaden its conversations beyond its predominant focus on politics,” the Daily Beast reported. Disney CEO Bob Iger also suggested that the show “tone down” its political rhetoric.

One former executive at Amazon MGM Studios tells WIRED that Trump’s anti-DEI agenda, whose impact on film and TV only seems to be growing more pronounced, is a part of the administration’s Trojan-horse playbook to roll back civil rights. “It’s just the rhetoric they’re using to articulate what they really believe and who they really are.”

The White House did not respond to WIRED’s request for comment.

The anti-DEI backlash threatens to make Hollywood even more out of touch than it already is to younger audiences, who increasingly prefer TikTok and YouTube to traditional viewing formats. An estimated 50 percent of Gen Z identifies as non-white, and nearly 30 percent identify as LGBTQ+. “These audiences aren’t just asking for representation—they expect it,” Twigg says. “If the industry starts backing away from inclusive storytelling, it won’t just be regressive—it’ll be a bad business decision.”

Original, inclusive storytelling is trending right now, as Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s vampire drama, proved by becoming the biggest box office success story of the year so far, earning $316 million globally. Hulu’s Paradise, about residents of a postapocalyptic town, and HBO Max’s The Pitt, a medical drama that follows an emergency-room crew over a 15-hour shift, have also felt like watercooler moments at a time when the industry is starved for them.

Beyond the cultural and commercial risks of a less diverse Hollywood, Twigg says there is a strategic one: Film and TV take years to develop and produce.

“Hitching your content strategy to a political moment that may not last through the next election—or the next news cycle—is short-sighted,” she says. “The stories being greenlit today will premiere in a future that may have swung back toward the very audiences currently being sidelined. If anything, the smartest strategy right now would be to build with resilience and relevance in mind—not reactionary politics.”

Whelan says that in over 20 years as a television producer, he has taken the same approach, regardless of the political and social climates of the time: to create shows that “entertain and inspire and maybe teach.”

In 2014, following stints at Syfy and TLC as a network executive, he applied that mindset to New Girls on the Block. It was the first follow-doc reality show with an all-trans cast. The series focused on a group of women in Kansas City, Missouri, who faced changing relationship dynamics in a society struggling to make space for trans women. The reality project he just wrapped probably sounds like a complete 180. It focuses on a Christian family who runs a ranch and takes in at-risk youth. But there’s more to it, he says.

“What’s interesting to me, having done it for so long, is I don’t see a huge difference between a show about a group of all transgender women and a group of ranchers trying to help at-risk youth,” he says. “It’s two groups of really amazing people trying to change their lives for the better, and change the world around them for the better as well.”

Tonality aside, fewer projects overall are moving forward this year, Whelan says, but that hasn’t stopped genuinely good ideas from finding an audience—no matter who sits in the Oval Office.

“Ozark Law would have sold regardless of the administration. The Netflix scripted series is all about breaking the law, so you know someone’s gonna come up with the idea of enforcing it. That’s how we pitch reality shows,” he says, before admitting, “I wish I had thought of that.”

Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment Will Show ‘How The People Contended With The Threat Of The Original Ganondorf’

by admin May 22, 2025

Last month, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo announced that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is the next mainline Zelda musou game and is launching on Nintendo Switch 2 this winter. Now, a Koei Tecmo studio head has pulled back the curtains on what players can expect from the narrative of this game, revealing Age of Imprisonment will show how the people of Hyrule defeated Ganondorf before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

In a new Creator’s Voice behind-the-scenes video for Age of Imprisonment called “Beyond the Legend,” Koei Tecmo producer Ryota Matsushita and Koei Tecmo triple-A games studio head Yosuke Hayashi discuss the upcoming game, what’s to unfold in the story, and how the Switch 2 makes it possible. Hayashi reveals Age of Imprisonment shows the full story of the Imprisoning War, which is only seen in fragmented chunks in Tears of the Kingdom.

“This game takes place during the Imprisoning War, which is shown in fragments in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” he says. “In this Hyrule Warriors game, you’ll see how the people contended with the threat of the original Ganondorf.”

Matsushita picks up this thread, stating, “As a story that you can only fully experience here, it doesn’t just depict the battles of the Imprisoning War via a Warriors game; it also shows the kingdom of Hyrule after Princess Zelda is sent back in time. You’ll also get to know the four masked sages from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.”

Elsewhere in the video, Matsushita and Hayashi discuss how the Switch 2 makes Age of Imprisonment possible. They explain that the console’s power allows the game to feature more enemies on screen and maintain a high and stable frame rate (which looks like 60 FPS in the video).

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment hits Nintendo Switch 2 sometime this winter.

In the meantime, read about how Nintendo has a plan for “continuous flow” of Switch 2 through the holidays, and then check out the Switch games getting free updates on Switch 2. After that, read Game Informer’s hands-on preview of the Switch 2.
