Shibarium Bridge Security: Here’s Plan to Prevent Next Hack

by admin October 3, 2025

Shibarium, the layer-2 scaling solution for Shiba Inu (SHIB), has stepped up its bridge security protocol. The measure comes as a measure to prevent a repeat occurrence of the exploit it suffered around mid-September. To ensure the next hack is avoided, Shibarium is restarting bridges and services.

Shibarium rolls out new security measures

As explained in an update by Shibizens, a news platform for the community, the attacker who tried to exploit the blockchain did so by manipulating checkpoints. According to the update, they did this by staking 4.6 million BONE tokens for leverage.

However, Shibarium was able to prevent the successful completion of the attack as Heimdall, the chain’s checkpoint system, automatically froze the network. This is a measure meant to protect users’ funds.

In order to prevent a recurrence, Shibarium has decided to add “blacklisting” to the Plasma Bridge. Notably, this helps move tokens between blockchains. Additionally, the chain has decided to restart paused bridges slowly and carefully. The goal is to allow users to move assets safely again.

Shibarium Update – Quick Recap

🔸 What happened
•An attacker injected fake checkpoints and tried to take control using a huge 4.6M BONE stake.
•Heimdall (the chain checkpoint system) halted to protect funds.

— Shibarium | SHIB.IO (@Shibizens) October 3, 2025

Other measures by Shibarium include the launch of a new official RPC, which is a network access point in collaboration with dRPC.org. It will also publish a template that would serve as a manual to handle any future attempt by malicious actors on the chain.

It is worth mentioning that when the mid-September attack happened, the Shibarium team responded proactively by moving over 100 smart contracts into safer wallets. The team also added a blacklisting feature to prevent addresses from staking.

Shibizens explained that after carrying out a recovery of the 4.6 million BONE, the Shibarium team cleaned out the chain’s ledger and rolled back to the last safe state before the exploit happened.

Community response and market impact

This update is already generating reactions from the SHIB Army. One user hailed the response of the Shibarium team. He, however, expressed concerns over the blacklisting feature, wondering if this aligns with the long-term goals of decentralization.

It would appear that the attempt to restore users’ confidence is gaining traction. Regardless, the daily transaction count on Shibarium is still at low levels. According to data, Shibarium could only record 1,970 transactions and remains a major concern as it rubs off on Shiba Inu.

As of press time, Shiba Inu is changing hands at $0.00001248, which represents a 0.88% increase in the last 24 hours. Despite the slight uptick, SHIB is underperforming the broader crypto market, largely as a result of the near collapse of Shibarium transactions.

99% Crash in Shibarium Transactions, Will Ominous Trend Reverse in Uptober?

by admin October 1, 2025

Shibarium, the layer-2 scaling solution for Shiba Inu (SHIB), has finally crashed below 10,000 transactions in its daily count. The development signals a massive pullback by users relying on Shibarium as 99% inches toward a total halt.

Shibarium tale: “Bruised, not broken”

According to Shibariumscan data, the layer-2 total transaction count now stands at 7,500. This development is shocking to the SHIB community, considering the trajectory that Shibarium was on in the month of August. It was posting a daily average of between 1.2 million and 1.4 million and was well on the way to hitting significant milestones.

That momentum has totally faded, with few transactions still going on in the layer-2 ecosystem. This suggests adoption has dropped, and the push for a two billion transaction count has been derailed. Shibarium was previously on track to hit the milestone before the end of September, but there has been very little engagement recently.

Why Shibarium Will Survive and Come Back Stronger

Shibarium is bruised, not broken. The recent exploit and the drop in activity shook confidence, but they also lit the fire for a stronger rebuild. Survival in crypto is not about avoiding setbacks. It is about how you rise after… pic.twitter.com/DykjWelgAc

— 𝐋𝐔𝐂𝐈𝐄 (@LucieSHIB) October 1, 2025

The total transaction count is currently 1,568,456,850. This slow growth has triggered concern in some quarters of the SHIB community, prompting reassurances from Lucie, the ecosystem’s marketing lead. In a post on X, Lucie assured the community that Shibarium is not dead.

According to Lucie, the recent setbacks on the layer 2 were caused by several factors, including a hack that exposed vulnerabilities. Lucie noted that despite the exploit, Shibarium is better as it allowed the team to fix the vulnerabilities with stricter validator controls.

She also stated that Shibarium now has better security and audits, making the system more trustworthy. Lucie argues that the setback has made the blockchain more resilient, and despite the slowed activity, it still has a solid infrastructure in place with the security to handle large transaction volumes.

“Shibarium is bruised, not broken,” Lucie stated.

She expressed optimism that Shibarium will stage a comeback, as pressure has been known to create strength. Lucie acknowledged the pivotal role of the SHIB army and their unflinching loyalty over the years. She noted that SHIB holders do not quit.

Could “Uptober” spark recovery?

With October generally referred to in crypto circles as “Uptober,” Shibarium might begin its recovery this month. Shiba Inu had its best performance in October with a monthly average growth of 171.2%; many holders anticipate a bullish October.

As of press time, Shiba Inu is changing hands at $0.00001224, which represents a 4.59% price increase in the last 24 hours. There has also been an uptick in trading volume by 9.33% to $193.05 million, a clear indication that SHIB is off to a good start in October.

How it sustains this and its effect on Shibarium remains something to watch out for in the coming days.

Shibarium Bridge Remains Paused After Hack, Asset Recovery Still Unclear

by admin September 21, 2025

  • $2.3 million hack
  • Asset recovery uncertain

According to a recent update published by Shiba Inu developer Kaal Dhairya, Shibarium operations remain restricted following a damning hack that took place earlier this month. This means that users cannot move assets back to Ethereum.

The team is yet to confirm when exactly the bridge is going to be reopened since it prioritizes safety and verification.

Dhairya has clarified that updates will be published via official channels. So far, the team is deliberately avoiding publishing specific details in order not to play into the hands of the attackers.

$2.3 million hack

On Sept 12, blockchain security firm PeckShield detected a likely Shibarium compromise, which was later confirmed by the Shiba Inu team following an investigation.

The attacker managed to artificially boost their in order to gain influence over validators and submit fraudulent exit requests.

The vast majority of validators (10 out of 12) got compromised, with their keys being used for approving malicious transactions.

You Might Also Like

The hacker tricked the bridge into withdrawing roughly $2.3 million worth of assets, including ETH, SHIB, and ROAR.

Asset recovery uncertain

Dhairya has also stated that the team is yet to finalize plans for asset recovery. So far, the team is primarily focused on “containment” in order to prevent further losses. Developers are also working on “hardening” the system to make sure that such an attack will not happen again.

A redemption plan will be shared with users once all security issues are solved.

If the team does not manage to recover the stolen funds via investigations or bounties, they will look into such backup options as taking funds from the treasury, burning tokens, and using an insurance fund.

A potential solution will have to undergo a community review before being implemented.

Shiba Inu: Shibarium Adds 10,000 Transactions in Day, but Growth Still Flat

by admin September 21, 2025

Shiba Inu Layer 2 Shibarium has added 10,000 transactions more within the last 24 hours, but transaction growth still remains flatlined.

According to Shibariumscan data, daily transactions for Sept. 19 came in at 17,410, which remains much lower than the over 4 million experienced in late August but higher than Sept. 18’s figure of 7,110.

Taken from the Sept. 18 figure of 7,110, the daily transaction figure of 17,410 achieved in the past day marks an increase of 10,300.

On Aug. 21, Shibarium saw daily transactions of 4.69 million, after which it suffered a plunge to as low as 84,090 on Aug. 28. Since this date, Shibarium’s daily transactions have remained in thousands, however rising briefly to 1.26 million on Sept. 6 before declining again.

Transaction growth stalls in September

According to the daily transactions graph provided on Shibarium, it can be seen that transaction growth flatlined for most of September, except for a brief rise to 1.26 million on Sept. 6 and then 490,230 on Sept. 7, as well as 150,810 on Sept. 3. For other days, the transaction count remained less than 20,000.

September is deemed a weak month for cryptocurrencies and the general markets; however, it remains uncertain if the drop in Shibarium transactions might have been due to the bearish September seasonality sentiment. The recent Shibarium bridge exploit, following which stake/unstake functionality was paused on the platform, might have also contributed to this sentiment.

This stall in transaction growth has impacted total transaction count, which is currently at 1,568,294,633, as it hasn’t seen an exponential increase since September’s start.

According to Shibariumscan data, Shibarium’s total blocks have surpassed 13 million, with the most recent count at 13,163,462. Total addresses now stand at 272,485,122.

SHIB, Dogecoin (DOGE) Prices Slide $2.4M Shibarium Hack

SHIB, Dogecoin (DOGE) Prices Slide $2.4M Shibarium Hack

by admin September 15, 2025

Top meme tokens traded under pressure as a multimillion dollar hack of Shiba Inu’s layer-2 network, Shibarium, dented investor confidence in joke cryptocurrencies.

On Sunday, Shibarium fell victim to a flash loan attack on its validator system, which drained about $2.4 million in ether (ETH) and SHIB. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has dropped 6.6% in the past 24 hours. The broader market CoinDesk 20 Index is down just 2.3%.

The attacker borrowed 4.6 million BONE, the governance token for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, often linked to the decentralized exchange (DEX) ShibaSwap, through a flash loan to gain control of the majority of validator keys. The keys act as gatekeepers of the network, confirming transactions and ensuring security.

With that control, the attacker was able to game the system into approving unauthorized transactions and walk away with a large amount of crypto assets from the bridge that connects Shibarium with the Ethereum blockchain. The process is akin to someone temporarily taking over a bank’s security system to approve unauthorized withdrawals. A flash loan is a loan raised with no upfront collateral and returns the borrowed assets within the same blockchain transaction.

The Shiba inu team was able to prevent a bigger, more serious breach because the BONE tokens used to gain control were reportedly tied to validator 1 and remained locked by the staking rules.

Nevertheless, markets reacted negatively breach, which again underscores the perennial security issues with blockchain technology.

Memecoins drop, broader market bid

SHIB fell by the most in three weeks on Sunday (UTC), losing 4% $0.00001369, and has continued to weaken to trade recently at $0.00001359. The cryptocurrency experienced considerable volatility throughout the 23-hour trading window ended Sept. 15 at 02:00 UTC, with the aggregate range encompassing $0.000006191, a 4% oscillation from peak to trough.

The session commenced with pre-dawn fragility as SHIB retreated from $0.000014156 to establish a pivotal trough of $0.000013547 at 14:00 UTC. Volume of 1.064 trillion tokens surpassed the 24-hour mean, signaling robust distribution pressure and prospective capitulation, according to CoinDesk Research’s technical analysis model.

The BONE token, which initially doubled to over 36 cents, is now down over 2% on a 24-hour basis, trading at around 20 cents.

According to the technical analysis model:

  • SHIB established a critical underpinning at $0.000013547 during elevated volume selling pressure exceeding 1.064 trillion tokens.
  • The token constructed successive higher lows and consolidation parameters between $0.000013600-$0.000013780.
  • Recovery momentum is demonstrated by ascending channel formations with sustained higher lows, indicating potential continuation towards the $0.000014000 resistance.
  • Volume patterns exceeded 24-hour averages during the decline phase, confirming potential capitulation levels.
  • Terminal hour trading exhibited decisive upward momentum with 1% appreciation, confirming a breach above the resistance threshold.

Large DOGE transfers add to bearish sentiment

Meanwhile, SHIB’s peer dogecoin DOGE$0.2624 fell 4% to 27.80 cents on Sunday and has since lost further 5% to 27.36 cents, according CoinDesk data.

A massive transfer of DOGE to a centralized exchange likely added to the bearish mood in the market. According to Whale Alert, crypto exchange OKX received 119,306,143 DOGE, worth over $34 million, from an unknown wallet. Such large transfers are typically associated with an intention to liquidate holdings.

Shibarium bridge exploited, $2.4m lost in flash loan attack

by admin September 14, 2025

Shiba Inu’s Shibarium bridge suffered a $2.4 million flash loan attack on Friday, giving the exploiter control of 10 of 12 validator keys and allowing them to drain ETH and SHIB tokens from the network.

Developers quickly paused certain functions, secured remaining funds in a multisig hardware wallet, and are working with security firms to investigate the breach, which underscores the growing risk facing cross-chain bridges in DeFi.

Summary

  • Shibarium bridge hacked, $2.4m in ETH and SHIB drained via flash loan exploit
  • Hacker used 4.6m BONE loan, gained validator control, drained bridge contract
  • Devs paused network, secured funds in multisig, and work with security firms

The exploit forced Shiba Inu (SHIB) developers to halt certain network activities while they assessed the damage.

The attacker borrowed 4.6 million BONE (BONE) tokens through a flash loan and gained access to 10 of 12 validator signing keys securing the network.

This gave the exploiter a two-thirds majority stake and allowed them to drain approximately 224.57 ETH (ETH) and 92.6 billion SHIB from the bridge contract before transferring the funds to their own address.

Shiba Inu dev: Attack was planned for months

Shiba Inu developer Kaal Dhairya described the incident as a “sophisticated” attack that was “probably planned for months.”

The attacker used their privileged position to sign malicious state changes and extract assets from the bridge infrastructure.

The Shibarium team moved quickly to contain the breach, pausing stake and unstake functionality as a precautionary measure.

They transferred stake manager funds from the proxy contract into a hardware wallet controlled by a trusted 6-of-9 multisig setup.

The borrowed BONE tokens used in the attack remain locked in Validator 1 due to unstaking delays. This allows developers to freeze those funds. This delay mechanism may prevent the attacker from fully profiting from their exploit.

Shibarium is under damage control mode

Developer Dhairya noted they are currently in “damage control mode” and haven’t decided whether the breach originated from a compromised server or developer machine. The team is working with security firms Hexens, Seal 911, and PeckShield to investigate the incident.

Authorities have been contacted about the attack, but the team remains open to negotiations. They offered not to press charges if the funds are returned and indicated willingness to pay a small bounty for the assets’ recovery.

Cross-chain bridges have become prime targets for hackers due to their complex security models and large fund pools. The Shibarium incident joins a growing list of bridge exploits that have cost the DeFi ecosystem billions in losses.

The team plans to restore stake manager funds once secure key transfers are completed and validator control integrity is verified.

Full network functionality will resume only after confirming the extent of any validator key compromise and implementing additional security measures.

Shibarium Bridge Falls Victim To $2.4 Million Drain Attack

by admin September 14, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Shibarium, the Ethereum-based Layer 2 scaling solution built around the Shiba Inu ecosystem, has suffered a major security breach, leading to the loss of about $2.4 million in assets. The drain attack has since prompted intense immediate emergency responses.

Hacker Uses Bridge Funds To Seize 4.6M BONE

In an X post on September 13, the development team behind the Shiba Inu (SHIB) token revealed that a hacker leveraged funds from an earlier bridge hack to acquire 4.6 million BONE tokens in a single block, mimicking a flash loan-style transaction. This maneuver temporarily granted the malicious actor significant validator voting power to sign a malicious state on the Shibarium network, where BONE functions as the governance token.

Notably, the flash loan-like transactions were settled using assets transferred directly from the bridge in the form of 224.57 Ethereum (ETH) ($1.05 million) and 92.6 billion SHIB ($1.30 million). However, the BONE tokens remain locked with validators due to staking mechanisms, preventing the attacker from withdrawing them immediately.

Nevertheless, the validator compromise highlighted a critical issue for the Ethereum layer 2 solution. The Shiba Inu team notes that evidence suggests that 10 of 12 validators’ signing keys were breached, leaving only K9 Finance and Unification validators resisting the malicious signing attempt.

In addition, other assets, including LEASH ($645,000), ROAR ($284,000), TREAT ($50,000), BAD ($17,000), and SHIFU ($10,000), were also drained but have not been sold. Meanwhile, the hacker’s attempt to offload approximately $700,000 worth of stolen KNINE tokens was thwarted after the K9 Finance DAO multisig blacklisted their address, effectively freezing 248 billion KNINE permanently.

Shibarium Team Shares Security Response And Next Steps

In the immediate aftermath, the Shiba Inu team has halted staking and unstaking functions to safeguard community assets. Meanwhile, stake manager funds were also moved from proxy contracts into a secure 6-of-9 hardware multisig wallet. In addition, Blockchain security teams such as Hexens, Seal911, and PeckShield have also been onboarded to conduct a forensic investigation into the breach.

In other developments, Shiba Inu developer with X username Kaal Dhairya confirmed that while damage control and investigations are underway, the team is open to negotiating with the hacker, offering leniency and even a potential small bounty should the stolen assets be returned.

Following the hack, the Shibarium ecosystem tokens have varying degrees of a negative price reaction. Notably, the Shiba Inu (SHIB) trades at 0.000014 following a slight 1.67% decline in the last day. Meanwhile, LEASH and BONE are down by 5.69% and 21.98% respectively, within the same period.

Shiba Inu Coin Turns Red Amid Shibarium Incident: How Bad Is It for SHIB?

by admin September 14, 2025

Shiba Inu (SHIB) took a hit after its Layer-2 network Shibarium fell victim to a sophisticated exploit, with the prime ecosystem token sliding from the $0.0000142 zone back to $0.0000138 and giving up most of the gains it had built earlier in the week.

What’s become known later is that attackers had managed to get hold of 10 out of 12 validator keys, using stolen money from the Shibarium bridge — including 224.57 ETH worth about $1 million and 92.6 billion SHIB worth about $1.3 million — to buy 4.6 million BONE and temporarily take control of the validator set long enough to push through a malicious state.

You Might Also Like

For SHIB, the price reaction has been immediate and heavy. The token is currently pinned near the $0.0000135-$0.0000137 range, which is a fragile support that’s held since late August.

Source: TradingView

If that floor breaks, the next level to watch is $0.0000130, hitting which would undo Shiba Inu coin’s late-summer base and signal a deeper correction. The recent sell-off shows that the SHIB market is still really sensitive to security headlines, and with $2.4 million confirmed stolen, there’s less appetite for aggressive dip-buying.

Shiba Inu’s BONE price reaction

After being used as the lever for the exploit itself, BONE, the governance and gas token of Shibarium, has also taken a hit. Trading at around $0.20, its value first soared by 54% and then fell by around 46%.

You Might Also Like

The damage to SHIB in terms of price is already clear, but there’s a risk that it could get worse if confidence doesn’t come back quickly.

Unless developers can show that the vulnerability is sealed and the safeguards are in place, SHIB’s weak support zone may not hold, leaving the token exposed to fresh lows while BONE continues to trade heavily due to people losing trust.

BONE Price Surges 40% After Shibarium Flash Loan Exploit

by admin September 14, 2025

Shiba Inu’s layer-2 network, Shibarium, was hit by a coordinated exploit that saw an attacker use a flash loan to gain control over a validator, drain assets from its bridge and trigger a temporary shutdown of staking operations.

The attacker, according to Shibarium developer Kaal Dhariya, bought 4.6 million BONE, the governance token of Shiba Inu’s layer-2 network, using a flash loan. The attacker then gained access to validator signing keys to achieve the majority validator power.

With that power, the attacker signed a fraudulent network state and siphoned assets from the Shibarium bridge, which connects it to the Ethereum network.

Since the BONE is still staked and subject to an unstaking delay, the funds remain locked, giving developers a narrow window to respond and freeze the funds, Dhariya said.

The Shibarium team has now paused all stake and unstake functionality, moved remaining funds into a hardware wallet protected by a 6-of-9 multisig setup and launched an internal investigation.

It’s still unclear whether the breach stemmed from a compromised server or a developer machine. While total losses haven’t been advanced, transaction data suggests they’re near $3 million.

The team is working with security firms Hexens, Seal 911 and PeckShield, and has alerted law enforcement. But developers also extended a peace offering to the attacker.

“Authorities have been contacted. However, we are open to negotiating in good faith with the attacker: if the funds are returned, we will not press any charges and are willing to consider a small bounty,” Dhariya wrote on X.

The price of BONE jumped immediately after the attack and at one point saw its value more than double, before a correction saw it move to a gain of around 40% since the exploit. SHIB is up more than 8%.

Shiba Inu price eyes a 20% jump after major Shibarium update

by admin September 13, 2025

Shiba Inu price continued its recovery on Saturday, Sep. 13, as the total value locked in Shibarium network rose and as SHIB balances on exchanges retreated.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) rose to $0.000014, its highest point in over a month and 25% above its lowest level this month.

Summary

  • Shiba Inu price continued rising on Saturday.
  • Shibarium, its layer-2 network, confirmed it was hacked.
  • The amount of SHIB tokens on exchanges dropped.

Shibarium TVL jumps amid ShibaSwap hacking concerns

SHIB price rose as DeFi Llama data showed that the total value locked in the network jumped after an important update. The TVL jumped by almost 40% in the last 24 hours to $2.28 million. It rose to the highest point since June this year.

The jump occurred after the developers released a new ShibaSwap upgrade designed to enhance its performance in the DeFi industry. It introduced a unified trading module placed on the homepage.

Hey #ShibArmy! 🎉

Shibarium also standardized the process of forming liquidity on the network. Most importantly, it enabled the network to become multi-chain, extending it to other chains like Ethereum, Polygon, and Arbitrum.

Shibarium’s TVL also jumped after an attempted hack on ShibaSwap, the most prominent dApp on the network. In the attack, a hacker used a flash loan to purchase 4.6 million BONE token after accessing validator keys. He then achieved majority validator power and signed a malicious state to drain assets from the bridge.

In an update, Shibizen noted that only a small amount of ETH/SHIB was moved, and the 4.6 million BONE remained locked and frozen. This explains why the BONE token jumped by over 40% on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the amount of Shiba Inu coins on exchanges continued falling. This indicates that investors are not selling.

There are currently over 283 trillion tokens, down from 292 trillion in August.

The daily timeframe shows that the SHIB price has recovered in the past few days, moving from a low of $0.00001170 last week to $0.000015.

SHIB remains above the ascending trendline that connects the lowest levels since April this year. It has jumped above the 50-day moving average, while the two lines of the Percentage Price Oscillator have moved above the zero line.

Therefore, the coin will likely continue rising as bulls target the key resistance at $0.00001770, which is a 20% increase from the current level.
