Bitcoin Miner Selling A Risk To The BTC Bull Market?

Miner wallets tracked by Glassnode show steady reductions between Aug. 11 and Aug. 23, with little sign of renewed accumulation since then. The last stretch of consistent withdrawals exceeding 500 BTC per day was back on Dec. 28, 2024, after Bitcoin repeatedly failed to hold above $97,000.

In the latest sell-off, miners unloaded 4,207 BTC, worth roughly $485 million, during the 12-day period ending Aug. 23. That compares with a previous accumulation phase between April and July, when miners added 6,675 BTC to their reserves. Miner balances now stand at 63,736 BTC, valued at more than $7.1 billion.

While these flows are relatively small compared with allocations from companies like MicroStrategy (MSTR) and Metaplanet (MTPLF), they tend to fuel market speculation and FUD. If miners are facing tighter cash flow, selling pressures could escalate unless profitability improves.

Over the past nine months, Bitcoin has gained 18%, but miner profitability has dropped by 10%, according to HashRateIndex data. Rising mining difficulty and weaker demand for onchain transactions have weighed on margins. The Bitcoin network continues to self-adjust to support an average block interval of 10 minutes, but profitability remains a concern.

The Bitcoin hashprice index currently stands at 54 PH/second, down from 59 PH/second a month ago. Even so, miners hardly have grounds to complain: the indicator has improved dramatically from levels seen back in March. According to NiceHash data, even Bitmain’s S19 XP rigs from late 2022 remain profitable at $0.09 per kWh.

Bitcoin miners face AI competition but remain resilient

Some investor disappointment stems from a growing shift toward artificial intelligence infrastructure. This narrative gained traction after TeraWulf (WULF) struck a $3.2 billion deal with Google in exchange for a 14% equity stake. The funds will be used to expand TeraWulf’s AI data center campus in New York, slated to launch operations in the second half of 2026.

Other miners are following a similar pivot. Despite the buzz around AI, Bitcoin’s own fundamentals remain solid. Network hashrate is nearing an all-time high at 960 million TH/second, up 7% in the past three months. That strength counters fears about miners’ net outflows or the lack of profitability gains across the sector.

Two Super Mario Series Amiibo Return To Amazon 7 Years After Selling Out

Amazon has restocked a pair of Nintendo Amiibo figures that it hasn’t had in its inventory in more than seven years. Super Mario fans can add Koopa Troopa and Goomba Amiibo to their collections for $16 each. Both characters are shipped and sold by Amazon, so we wouldn’t expect Mario’s iconic punching bags to remain in stock for very long. Goomba and Koopa Troopa are part of the long-dormant Super Mario Amiibo series.

Both figures released in the US in October 2017 and were sold out at Amazon by time the calendar flipped to 2018. The regular price of Nintendo Switch Amiibo recently increased to $20, so you’re technically saving 20% on Koopa Troopa and Goomba. The same could be said about Sora from Kingdom Hearts, which launched in early 2024 and is in stock for $16.

Splatoon fans can get the Pearl & Marina 2-Pack for $25, but you’ll need to move fast; the combo pack is $10 below MSRP and almost out of stock. Randomly, the European edition of Robin from Fire Emblem is also in stock, though for the peculiar price of $20.90.

The Goomba Amiibo launched October 6, 2017, the same day as Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions for Nintendo 3DS. Other Super Mario role-playing games have supported Amiibo figures, but Goomba and Koopa Troopa are the only characters to release with a Mario RPG.

In Bowser’s Minions, the figure unlocks Gold Goomba as well as several stamp sheets. Several other Nintendo 3DS games can read the Goomba Amiibo. Most notably, if you scan the figure while playing WarioWare Gold, Wario will draw a hilariously terrible Goomba picture.

Goomba also has unique functionality in a handful of Nintendo Switch games, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Super Mario Party, and Bayonetta 2. In Super Mario Party, you’ll get an exclusive shiny Goomba sticker.

Players can unlock Gold Koopa Troopa and themed stamp sheets for Bowser’s Minions and the mainline story mode. Koopa Troopa is compatible with several other Mario games for 3DS. And yes, in case you were wondering, Wario is bad at drawing Koopa Troopa, too.

On Switch, Koopa Troopa functions similarly to Goomba in Smash Bros. Ultimate, Bowser’s Fury, Bayonetta 2, and Super Mario Party. You’ll unlock the Koopa Troopa Spirit in Smash Bros., but since a shiny Koopa sticker doesn’t exist in Super Mario Party, it unlocks the Goomba sticker (if you don’t already have it).

Koopa Troopa also unlocks exclusive costumes in two additional games: Conga Master Party and Yoshi’s Crafted World.

Goombas and Koopa Troopas have been franchise fixtures since the original Super Mario Bros. debuted in 1985 on the Nintendo Entertainment System.

In World 1-1, the first few obstacles Mario encounters are the ever-grumpy mushrooms with feet. After flattening a handful of Goombas by jumping on their heads, Mario meets the perpetually smiling tortoise for the first time. There’s only one Koopa in World 1-1, but that’s enough to introduce players to the more efficient method for eliminating Goombas. Over the past 40 years, Super Mario fans have hurled countless Koopa Shells at groups of Goombas.

Nintendo has iterated on Bowser’s original henchmen on many occasions, but you can still count on seeing regular Koopas and Goombas in the vast majority of Super Mario Bros platformers and spin-offs. When you encounter one, there’s a good chance the other is nearby, so it’s only fitting that Amazon has both of these Amiibo in stock at the same time.

Nintendo Switch 2 Amiibo

Amazon has seven of the eight Nintendo Switch 2 Amiibo figures in stock, and four characters are on sale for $20 each. Two of the four Legend of Zelda Sage Amiibo–Tulin and Sidon–are eligible for Amazon’s $10 discount. Amazon is offering $20 discounts on Luke and Jamie Amiibo from Street Fighter 6.

Amazon’s deals will likely end when GameStop’s Amiibo promotion expires this weekend. Unlike Amazon, GameStop has all seven Zelda and Street Fighter Amiibo for $20 each; GameStop is also offering a 50% discount on the retailer’s exclusive Street Fighter 6 Amiibo Card Starter Set.

Airlines Sued for Selling ‘Window’ Seats Without a Window View

Have you ever paid for a window seat on an airplane that didn’t actually have a window? You could be part of a class action lawsuit in the near future.

Delta and United Airlines have been sued this week in federal court for misrepresenting their seat offerings online. The plaintiffs note that when people buy tickets through competitors like Alaska Airlines and American Airlines, the website will flag when a window seat doesn’t actually have a window. Delta and United don’t tell consumers when that’s the case, according to the new lawsuits.

The filing against Delta, which is available online from Courthouse News, claims that the number of people affected could be over a million:

For many years, Delta has knowingly and routinely sold windowless “window” seats to travelers. For instance, various models of Delta’s Boeing 737, Boeing 757, and Airbus A321 aircraft are built with one or more seats that would traditionally have a window, but do not include one due to the placement of air conditioning ducts, electrical conduits, or other interior components. Delta operates hundreds of these planes, which each make multiple flights every day. As a result, Delta has likely sold over a million windowless “window” seats throughout the class period.

The lawsuit notes that people have many different reasons for trying to get a window seat, including a fear of flying or being claustrophobic. And if someone pays extra to get a window seat but doesn’t enjoy that benefit, they’re not getting what they paid for.

The court filings also include photos and social media posts from places like r/Delta where people have complained about paying extra and not getting a window.

Reuters points out that there are third-party websites like SeatGuru that allow consumers to look up a given plane to determine if a seat has a real window view. But Carter Greenbaum, a lawyer for the firm that filed the lawsuits, told the news outlet that, “A company can’t misrepresent the nature of the products it sells and then rely on third-party reviews to say a customer should have known that it was lying.”

The lawsuit notes that fees can add up quickly for people who are trying to get a window seat:

The added consideration required to select a window seat is significant. A typical basic economy traveler, for example, might need to spend upwards of $40 to advance to a higher ticket tier, and then must spend over $30 to select a particular window seat. For passengers who do not pay for these upgrades in cash, they pay for their seat selection with other valuable consideration, such as credits earned from Delta, membership fees for rewards programs, and/or in the opportunity cost of benefits they would have obtained from selecting a different credit card reward program. These additional fees to select particular seats are charged in addition to the base fare, taxes, and other fees.

The lawsuit against Delta has been filed in New York, while the suit against United was filed in California and they are listed as:

PNY’s Overclocked RTX 5070 Ti Is Finally Selling at Retail

High demand, low supply, and a constantly shifting economic space have caused the new 50 Series graphics cards to hit the market well above the expected price, at least at launch.

Thankfully, the situation seems to be stabilizing a bit, as indicated by this deal on PNY’s overclocked example of the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, which is available on Amazon for its MSRP of $750. Even better, your purchase includes a copy of the upcoming Borderlands 4, potentially saving you $70 if you were planning on picking it up.

I spent some time with the Asus Prime version of the RTX 5070 Ti and was seriously impressed with its performance at multiple resolutions. It managed to stay above 120 frames per second at 1080p in almost every game I tested, making it a great choice for gamers who are still at the lower resolution and looking to max out their screen’s refresh. It also beat 90 fps in all of the test games at 2,560 x 1,440, which is great news for new system builders targeting the higher resolution. As part of the newest generation of Nvidia GeForce GPUs, you also get access to DLSS 4 and the landmark feature, Multi-Frame Generation. The RTX 5070 Ti can leverage machine learning to produce up to three extra frames between each traditionally rendered frame, shooting your frame rate into the stratosphere in exchange for a bit of quality. While I wouldn’t rely on it for every game, I did an in-depth look in my review of the RTX 5090 Founders Edition (7/10, WIRED Recommends) that shows some of the effects it has on both image quality and frame rate.

As soon as you move past those sub-$400 budget cards, I think the RTX 5070 Ti offers the best balance of performance and price as an upgraded pick. It’s rare to see these cards listed for retail, and the included copy of Borderlands 4 really sweetens the deal, assuming you were going to play anyway, so I wouldn’t sleep on this if you’ve been considering an upgrade.
