Elden Ring Nightreign’s rarest item could be hiding the game’s biggest secret

by admin June 9, 2025

The first time I saw the Cord End on the ground in Elden Ring Nightreign, I was vexed. The enigmatic item had a simple description: “Gain entry somewhere.”

Where is somewhere, you might ask? Good question. I didn’t find out during that playthrough. Painfully, I relinquished the item on the floor in the waiting area before the final boss on that run to make room for articles with more immediately apparent uses, like healing. Every single teammate stopped what they were doing to inspect the object, which silently exhibited its rarity with a golden hue. Classic Souls experience right there: Something, somewhere, can be interacted with, if only you could figure out the exact conditions. The game will helpfully not tell you. Only your curiosity or willingness to Google the answer can solve the mystery.

I’ve kept an eye out since then, but to some degree, it felt useless. Nightreign’s design forces players to zip through the map from icon to icon in the hopes of building up a character who can withstand a Nightlord on the third day, which the game enforces by periodically corralling players with a Fortnite-like storm. But while Nightreign’s pacing is speedier than that of the original Elden Ring, the intricate level design and secrecy remain. Areas will have winding hallways leading to deep chambers with multiple pathways and doors that you may never see if you have any sense of urgency. One time, I dove deep into the magma area of the map only to find that the level extended so deeply, I couldn’t figure out how to get out before the storm claimed my runes.

In my 60 hours playing Nightreign, I’ve seen the Cord End exactly once. I figured that the likelihood of ever figuring out what to do with it was small, so I recently allowed myself to look it up. Turns out, it opens a door near the castle residing in the middle of the map. In it, there are three Sacrificial Twigs, which prevent you from losing runes or levels when you die.

Looking at a picture of the door itself, it’s evident why I couldn’t figure out where the Cord End might lead to. The area is poorly lit and barely visible. I had probably run by it many times, on most of my runs — the castle is a popular destination — without ever realizing it.

Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco

Puzzle solved… kind of. Figuring out what it does, hilariously enough, was the easiest part of the Cord End debacle. Players now know that the Cord End will sometimes drop in churches that house extra flask charges, but hell if anyone can get the item to drop again.

“I found one of these on my very first game and in the fifty-something games since I’ve never seen another one and now I’m going insane,” reads one comment on the Fextralife website detailing the item.

“I want to say I’d looted over 50 by that time, so it isn’t a very common drop at all,” another remarked.

“In 44 hours, I’ve only found 2,” says a comment on a YouTube video about the item.

Sacrificial Twigs are useful items, to be sure, but they’re not necessarily critical to beating Nightreign. Part of what’s driving the interest here is that lore junkies are convinced that the Cord End might do more than simply open a door.

As one player points out, there’s a crypt area in the game where a description reads, “The Ways of Cutting point to the deep woods, bestow branches to those who are worthy and wise.” Another description in the same area says, “The Ways of Cutting point to the deep woods, bestow branches to those who wander and roam.”

Theoretically, both of these text snippets may not only reference specific areas of the map, but they could also be attached to characters in the game. The descriptions are tied to coffins that players speculate belong to each individual class. The Recluse, for example, is described in the game as a witch of the deep woods. Crucially, this area also appears to have something that resembles an altar, and it’s accompanied by text that says, “To atone for the first sin, we elect to become the foundation.”

It could just be stuff to set the ambiance; while Souls games do have distinct narratives, you can’t assume every bit of text is an intentional tie to a wider storyline. Sometimes, descriptions will conflict with one another or plainly not make sense in the larger context of the game. Still, this is a lot of references to branches, all hailing from an apparently important place in the game. The altar is suggestive; is the player supposed to do something there? What happens if players bring the twigs to the areas on the map?

Twigs are obviously useful, but why does it give you three? A single player can only carry two branches, as it is classified as a Talisman, not a normal item. If the game expects you to share the twigs, is there a chance something might happen if specific characters hold those branches in the right area of the map? It’s the sort of thing that sounds like a classic Souls puzzle.

“I think there is some way to get those three branches to these 3 spots within the Roundtable,” muses a Redditor who is convinced there’s a deeper mystery afoot.

Another thing that’s fueling this quixotic search is the knowledge that being given a legendary item merely prevents you from losing runes doesn’t feel like a proper reward for something this unlikely.

“I believe that to solve this Easter egg, you need to have a group with specifically Recluse, Wylder, and Duchess, and happen to get a cord drop and open the secret door,” another Redditor says. “Then everyone needs to equip the branches. After that? Who knows?”

The hunches could be right, and there could be a wilder secret no Nightreign player has figured out yet. Then again, Souls games are not above simply trolling players. Famously, the original Dark Souls offered players a choice to begin the game with a pendant that players convinced themselves must be tied to some other elaborate thing in the game. Later, everyone found out that the developers just wanted to prank players. Nightreign is also slated to get updates, so it’s possible that whatever the twigs do — if indeed they do anything — might not be in the game yet.

We can’t know until someone successfully tests out the myriad theories floating around. Good luck getting the item to drop, though. Even if you do get the twigs, you’ve got to survive long enough to bring the branches to the right locations, or end a run with the items still in your possession. Most runs aren’t successful, and dying is a constant in Nightreign. Woof.

Perhaps one Redditor puts it best when they wrote, “I wish I had a consistent team just to run around the map to try and find cords, but to whoever can do this first and see if there really is more to the secret door, you’ll be a legend!”

Nintendo’s Switch 2 has a secret GameCube startup sound

by admin June 9, 2025

The launch of Nintendo’s Switch 2 has finally brought GameCube games to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, but there’s also a secret startup sound.

Once downloaded, the GameCube collection features three games so far: F-Zero GX, Soul Calibur 2, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Open the collection and it works just like others for the N64, SNES and more.

But! If you hold the Switch 2’s left stick in any direction as the collection loads, you’ll be treated to the iconic GameCube startup screen with its plinky-plonky sound effects and rolling cube. Cute!

Classic Nintendo GameCube games are coming to Nintendo Switch 2! Watch on YouTube

YouTuber Spawn Wave shared a video of the screen over the weekend. I then had to try it myself for that hit of nostalgia.

I tested it with other buttons too – the face buttons and the shoulder buttons – but only the left stick works for this little Easter Egg.

If you’re planning on playing F-Zero GX – and you should be, it’s great – note the default controls mean the game is virtually unplayable. You’ll need to enter the suspend menu to remap the controls, specifically moving boost to a more easily accessible button.

So far only three games are available in the collection, though you can buy a GameCube controller too. Other games on the way include Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Mario Smash Football, Chibi Robo, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pokémon Colosseum.

What other GameCube games are you hoping to see added to the collection? Personally, after splashing around in Mario Kart World over the weekend, I am hopeful Nintendo will whip out Wave Race: Blue Storm from its vault.

Secret Ethereum (ETH) Golden Bull Run Incoming? Solana (SOL) Enters Freefall, Bitcoin (BTC): Now or Never?

by admin June 6, 2025

  • Ethereum sees accumulation
  • Solana starts moving

The $2 psychological barrier might not last much longer if the current trend continues, as XRP is once again teasing critical support levels. The asset has entered a declining phase after being decisively rejected at the $2.20 resistance zone, missing out on earlier momentum that suggested a more robust breakout. The rejection happened as XRP approached the upper limit of a descending triangle which, unless refuted by a high-volume breakout, typically indicates bearish continuation.

In terms of technical analysis, XRP is displaying indications of a gradual and brittle reversal as it hovers just above the 100 EMA. However, the bounce lacks conviction; volume remains muted and momentum indicators like RSI linger in the neutral zone around 45, offering little reassurance for bulls. An aggressive bounce from this level is not supported by any strong bullish divergence, as indicated by the Relative Strength Index’s lack of oversold conditions.

XRP/USDT Chart by TradingView

According to price action, the market is compressing as well. If there is not a strong upward push, XRP might end up moving in the direction of the 200 EMA, which is currently trading close to $2.The last significant support that held XRP afloat during the last correction is also at this level, making it more than just a technical target. A collapse at this point might cause XRP to enter a more severe retracement phase.

The overall trend is still erratic. Despite its prior breakout from a falling wedge in early 2025, which supported its long-term bullish structure, XRP’s recent price action suggests uncertainty. Bullish confidence is undermined short term by the asset’s inability to set a higher high and break above $2.20.

The $2 level is in grave danger unless there is a quick change in market sentiment or XRP recovers $2.20 with volume confirmation. Traders should keep a close eye on how the price interacts with the 200 EMA; if it breaks, sharper downward pressure is likely to follow.

Ethereum sees accumulation

The numbers are starting to speak louder than the headlines, and Ethereum might be subtly getting ready for a big breakout. ETH has risen a remarkable 46% in the last 30 days, significantly outperforming Bitcoin in terms of both relative strength and absolute price action.

A significant indication of growing institutional and retail interest is the ETH/BTC pair’s more than 30% increase over the same time period, which shows that capital is shifting significantly from Bitcoin to Ethereum. Since the early May vertical rally, ETH has held onto its gains and is currently trading at about $2,600.

A series of higher lows has been printed by the price as it has been consolidating inside a tightly wound ascending channel while adhering to support levels. Bullish continuation structures typically exhibit this pattern. Since there was little to no volatility during consolidation, it appears that steady healthy demand — not speculation — has been the main driver of Ethereum’s rally.

In the ETH/BTC pair, ETH has also notably broken through significant resistance and is currently testing the upper limits of a long-term weekly range. A breakout that is confirmed could signal the start of ETH’s golden bull cycle, during which time its dominance on the larger cryptocurrency market will increase.

The market has not yet depleted buying power, as evidenced by volume, which is within normal ranges despite slightly declining during this consolidation phase. Around 60, the RSI stays neutral, allowing for more upside without going into overbought territory. A bullish argument is also supported by the larger narrative. As a decentralized settlement layer, Ethereum is becoming more popular due to the growing use of Ethereum layer-2 solutions and the ongoing background chatter about ETFs and ETH’s enhanced monetary structure following the merger.

Solana starts moving

According to the most recent market data, Solana is on the verge of a technical cliff, and the decline has already begun. Two important moving averages that have traditionally served as dynamic support levels, the 50 EMA and the 100 EMA, have both been formally broken below by SOL.

More than merely symbolic, this breakdown portends a much more severe correction and the waning of midterm bullish momentum. Now trading at $152, SOL is no longer holding onto the $155-160 support range, which was previously strengthened by the convergence of important moving averages. In addition to nullifying the recent bullish structure, the breach of these levels turns them into active resistance zones. The psychological level of $100 or a drop of almost 35% from current prices now seems to be the next likely support.

You Might Also Like

A slight increase in volume during the decline indicates that this move is not merely a shakeout or a temporary wick but rather the start of a longer-term sell-off. With a downward trend and an approach to oversold territory, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is also showing this change and suggests that seller pressure is getting stronger. Technically speaking, it is particularly risky to lose the 100 EMA (about $158).

Prior to a total trend reversal, this line frequently acts as the final line of defense. A decline is likely if Solana is unable to swiftly recover that level. Additionally, macro conditions are not helping. Solana may find itself in a short-term isolated downtrend as the larger altcoin market exhibits signs of exhaustion and capital rotation favoring Ethereum and Bitcoin dominance creeps upward. If volume does not support a clear rebound above $160, the freefall scenario aimed at $100 looks more likely.

Earn $27,700 in 7 days? BTC holder reveals the secret of cloud mining’s huge profits

by admin June 1, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

In the cryptocurrency circle, wealth myths are never uncommon. Recently, a senior BTC holder claimed to have made a profit of up to $27,700 through cloud mining in just 7 days, which sparked heated discussions in the circle. What is the secret of huge profits behind this?

What is cloud mining? Why has it become a new trend?

Cloud mining is a way of cryptocurrency mining that does not require the purchase of mining machines or equipment maintenance, and can be participated in simply through the Internet. Users can obtain mining rewards for digital currencies such as Bitcoin and Dogecoin by renting the computing power provided by the cloud platform.

Advantages of cloud mining:

No technical threshold: suitable for ordinary investors, no need to know how to maintain mining machines.

Low initial investment: most platforms support free registration and give bonuses.

Stable source of income: lock computing power through long-term contracts to obtain continuous income. Stay away from the troubles of electricity bills and equipment depreciation.

Example Revealed: How to Earn $27,700 in 7 Days?

According to this BTC holder, he used a UK-regulated platform, XRP Mining, and achieved super high returns by combining the following strategies:

  1. Choosing the right platform is the key

He specifically mentioned that there are too many cloud mining platforms on the market, and it is necessary to choose a legally registered and regulated platform.

  1. Reasonable configuration of contracts

He did not blindly pursue “free income”, but purchased multiple short-term and long-term contracts on a free basis to diversify risks and increase returns.

  1. Market window period

Since it coincided with the sharp rise in Bitcoin prices, the value of BTC produced by mining doubled. He chose to cash out at the high point within a week, and finally achieved a net profit of $27,700 in 7 days.

How to Join the XRP Mining Platform

  • Visit the official website of XRP Mining. After successfully registering with one click, you can immediately receive a mining reward of $15. (You can also receive a $0.6 reward for daily sign-in)
  • Investors can choose the appropriate cloud mining package according to their budget needs. The platform provides a variety of options.
  • In terms of recharge, the platform has multi-currency compatibility and supports stable coins such as USDT – TRC 20, BTC, XRP, ETH, LTC, USDC, BNB, USDT – ERC 20, BCH, Doge, SOL, etc. After completing the platform recharge and successfully selecting the appropriate mining package, the system will automatically start mining immediately.
  • During the entire mining process, investors can view the income in real time and intuitively through the platform, so that every income is clearly visible and under control.
  • The mining income will be allocated to the account every day, and users can withdraw to their wallets at any time.

Contract Plan:

The XRP Mining platform offers a wide variety of options. It supports mining of a variety of mainstream cryptocurrencies, including BTC (Bitcoin), Doge (Dogecoin), LTC (Litecoin), etc., and can be switched freely and flexibly configured. The platform has launched a series of short-term, periodic and monthly high-yield contracts. All contracts are cloud-hosted, without hardware investment, and can guarantee daily returns.

【New User Experience Contract】:Investment amount: $100, contract period: 2 days, daily income: $5.0, maturity income: $100 + $10
【Avalon Miner A15-194T】:Investment amount: $500, contract period: 7 days, daily income: $6.25, maturity income: $500+ $43.75
【Bitcoin Miner S21 Pro】:Investment amount: $2,000, contract period: 15 days, daily income: $27, maturity income: $2,000 + $405
【Bitcoin Miner S21 XP Imm】:Investment amount: $8,800, contract period: 40 days, daily income: $133.76, maturity income: $8,800 + $5,350.4
【Avalon Air CoolingMining Box-40ft】:Investment amount: $28,000, contract period: 50 days, daily income: $490, maturity income: $28,000 + $24,500

For example:

Invest $28,000 to purchase a $28,000 [Avalon Air Cooling Mining

Box-40ft] contract with a term of 50 days and a daily yield of 1.75%.

After the purchase is successful, the user can obtain passive income every day = $28,000 × 1.75% = $490.

After 50 days, the user’s principal and income: $28,000 + $490 × 35 days = $28,000 + $24,500 = $52,500

For more contract plans, please log in to the XRP Mining official website.

You can get the profit the next day after purchasing the contract. When the account funds reach $100, you can choose to withdraw to your crypto wallet or continue to purchase other contracts.

XRP Mining platform advantages:

  • Artificial intelligence system: automatically selects the most profitable mining currency and mining pool, optimizes computing efficiency, and achieves stable daily income.
  • Automatic settlement of income: account balance is credited in real time, no manual operation is required, convenient and flexible. In terms of fund security, multiple encryption technologies, cold and hot wallet isolation, and global server disaster recovery system are used to ensure the security of user assets.
  • 24-hour customer service: The platform has deployed multiple mining nodes around the world and provides 7×24-hour customer service support, covering users in multiple languages and regions. Whether through the web version or mobile application, users can manage their accounts, view mining income and market conditions, and track investment status at any time.
  • Alliance plan: The platform has an invitation rebate mechanism. Inviting friends to join can get additional computing power rewards and commission returns, realizing “mining while promoting, doubling income”.

Master the method, ordinary people can also achieve crypto wealth freedom

Earning $27,700 in 7 days sounds like a myth, but it is not impossible with the right market environment, reliable platform and reasonable strategy. If you also want to try to expand your income source through cloud mining, you might as well start with XRP Mining, receive free computing power, and experience a mining experience that really works for you.

The latest tease about gaming’s latest worst kept secret, Persona 4 Remake, comes from – you guessed it – a pissed-off voice actor

by admin May 28, 2025

Voice actor Yuri Lowenthal has offered a tease – well, perhaps more of a vicious peeling back of the curtain – about the Persona 4 Remake on BlueSky. Persona 4 Remake, a game that has not been officially announced yet, will not be having him back as the voice of Yosuke, the actor claims. Bummer!

The post, which still remains up on Yuri’s social media as of writing, alleges the following, “And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”

This is not the first time Yuri has tipped his hat and talked about things a little earlier than he maybe should. It was only a few months ago when he talked candidly about Peter Parker’s role in Spider Man 3. That game, again not revealed yet, was something we assumed was coming but had yet to get any official tease from the developer or publisher. Yet Yuri, channeling his IDGAF attitude, was willing to speak about work on it ahead of time.

Whether or not Yuri will get in trouble for this is anyone’s guess. He’s Yuri Lowenthal, one of the big names in voice acting. People love his work and his work, and him getting torn away from a role due to his outspoken nature would probably lead to some backlash from his fans, especially if that role was a sequel or remake.

And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.

It’s a weird way to hear about a Persona 4 Remake for the first time, but hey, better to know than to not know I guess! Are you excited to hear more about the Persona 4 Remake from lips other than Yuri’s? Let us know below!

Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars have both been delayed

by admin May 25, 2025

Marvel Studios has chosen to delay its next two high-stakes Avengers movies by seven months apiece. Avengers: Doomsday moves from May 1 to December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars shifts from May 27, 2027 to December 17 of that year.

Insiders told Deadline that the delay is just to accommodate the “gargantuan vision” of two films that will be “among the biggest ever made.” (Or maybe Marvel is scared of GTA 6.) The films are being made back-to-back by directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed the two previous Avengers team-up movies and Marvel’s two highest-grossing films: 2018’s Infinity War and 2019’s Endgame. Avengers: Doomsday is in production now.

Marvel owner Disney won’t have any concerns about moving the Avengers movies from their traditional early summer slots to the holidays. Spider-Man: No Way Home launched in mid-December 2021 and was a massive success, becoming the third-highest-grossing Marvel film. (Avengers: Doomsday’s coveted May 1, 2026 slot will go to another big Disney movie, The Devil Wears Prada 2.)

Still, the move reflects a shift from quantity to quality at Marvel Studios, which Disney CEO Bob Iger said during an investor call had “lost a little focus by making too much.” After releasing only one film in 2024 (Deadpool & Wolverine), Marvel is putting out three in fairly quick success in 2025: Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and the forthcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But then there will be a break of a full year — long by Marvel standards — before Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July 2026, followed by another yearlong break between the two upcoming Avengers movies.

Underlining this point, Variety notes that Disney has removed or swapped out several slots for “untitled Marvel” projects in 2026 and 2027, though it has three slots in 2028 reserved for Marvel films. What these might be — indeed, what the future holds generally for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Secret Wars — remains a mystery. The status of the Armor Wars movie is unknown, to say nothing of the beleaguered Blade, while plans for Shang-Chi and Black Panther sequels remain vague. Above all this looms the specter of a possible X-Men movie, which finally seems to be coming together.

The two Avengers films ought to be more than enough to look forward to in the meantime. Marvel’s announced cast for Doomsday is a multiversal pile-up of MCU veterans, newcomers from Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts*, actors from the legacy Fox X-Men movies, and wild cards like Channing Tatum’s Gambit. The cast is led by Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, not Tony Stark. They really could go anywhere from here.

“What if I was the bad guy?” Oblivion Remastered’s best new faction quests so far exist because a modder was doing evil stuff, and they’re now teasing “a secret project”

by admin May 23, 2025

If there’s one thing us folks who love a good RPG can never have enough of, it’s quests. Oblivion Remastered has plenty in its base form – The Elder Scrolls 4 not being short on stuff to do – but of course modders were always going to add to that.

We’re still at a pretty early stage in terms of folks digging underneath the Unreal Engine second skin Virtuos has cocooned the classic game in and seeing what they can accomplish by pushing the boundaries. However, there’ve been plenty of mods that have already come out and had everyone going full Uriel Septim ‘I’ve seen you in my dreams’ mode.

The latest of these, in my case, had been modder ColdTyrant’s “Infinitum” series, a bunch of mods released in rapid succession that overhaul Oblivion’s already pretty stellar faction questlines by adding in new infinitely accessible radiant quests and systems. They offer nice rewards in return for your character doing more of the job they signed up for – be it assassin, warrior, thief, gladiator, or mage – in a way that’s perfect for roleplaying.

So, having also been intrigued by his earliest works that made it possible to join the Mythic Dawn and become a necromancer in Oblivion Remastered, I decided earlier this week to reach out to ColdTyrant. We chatted about how the quest mods he’s created so far came together, what the next steps in Oblivion Remastered modding might require, and what his future modding plans are. Here’s that conversation:

VG247: What drew you to modding Oblivion Remastered, and has your previous modding experience come in handy when getting up to speed with it?

ColdTyrant: I’ve been playing Oblivion since I was a kid, in 2007 on the PS3. At that age I was absolutely astounded that I could do whatever I wanted, go wherever I wanted, fight, kill, or help whoever I wanted – the game absolutely blew me away and had a fundamental effect on myself and my creativity. I’ve been modding Bethesda games ever since my dad first let me play on his PC, and I was able to download the Construction Set for Oblivion and start poking around to see how things work and what I could make.

I had been following the rumors of an ‘Oblivion Remake’ since January of this year leading up to its eventual shadow drop, and was absolutely floored by the incredible visuals and gameplay overhauls made by the extremely talented team at Virtuos. They breathed new life into one of my all-time favorite video games, and it’s been so exciting to see everyone playing and talking about Oblivion again just like when I was a kid.

Naturally, after I’d already sunken about 100 or so hours into Remaster, I started feeling that itch to get back into the Construction Set. People were (and still are) pumping out mods, tweaks, and tools for Oblivion Remastered like crazy, and I really wanted to sort of get on that wave and see if I could contribute my own content to help enrich players’ experiences further.

Being back in Cyrodiil can do that to a guy. | Image credit: Bethesda/VG247

VG247: How did you go about creating your first couple of quest/faction expansion mods, Mythic Dawn Rising and Dark Path of The Necromancer? Was it a case of wanting more evil options and finding out what was possible, or did you go in with a set vision?

ColdTyrant: When I decided it was time to start modding Remastered, I really wasn’t sure where to start. I’ve always been fascinated with the villains Bethesda has created, and I know many players (including myself) have a desire to explore the idea – what if *I* was the bad guy?

I started re-learning Oblivion’s scripting and quest system, and ultimately decided I wanted to create an alternate path to the Main Quest, where the player could decide to explore what it would be like to actually be a member of Mehrunes Dagon’s Mythic Dawn cult. This mod was sort of a test of what I could get away with mechanically – a proof of concept to myself, and it’s a bit light on content and needs a big update (I’m working on this!).

After I released Mythic Dawn Rising, I just kept playing around with scripts and variables and seeing what could be done. When I discovered the different types of systems I’d be able to create with what I’d discovered, my ideas really began to run wild.

Dark Path of the Necromancer started as just a mod that would add an alternative way for players to create Black Soul Gems, but as I’d finish one feature I’d think of another, then get to work on it – then another, then another. It quickly sort of snowballed into this big project with multiple necromantic-centered systems, and I really love how it turned out. Sort of accidentally, I’d wound up creating another mod that allowed the player to explore membership with another previously forbidden faction.

Who wouldn’t want to join a group of folks who can cast armour illusions this cool? | Image credit: Bethesda/VG247

VG247: I’ve noticed that in both of those mods’ descriptions you note that you’re hoping to add more to them once more advanced Oblivion Remastered modding tools are out there. What kinds of tools are you most keen to see emerge going forwards and can you paint me a picture of what the ‘ideal versions’ of those mods might look like?

ColdTyrant: So, with modding the original Oblivion, it’s a lot simpler – anything you put into the game world will just be there when you load up the mod. No requirements, no difficult installation instructions, just plug and play. If I dropped a new NPC named Bob the Mage into Anvil, he’d just be there!

Oblivion Remastered is a bit more complicated. Virtuos has created an incredibly remarkable hybrid engine that combines both Gamebryo (an earlier version of Creation Engine) and Unreal Engine 5. Gamebryo handles the scripts, quests, and gameplay mechanics, while Unreal Engine 5 handles all rendering – meshes, textures, menus, lighting, shadows, effects, lines of text, pretty much anything and everything the player sees on their screen.

What this means in layman’s terms is that if I dropped Bob the Mage into Anvil in Remastered using the Gamebryo Oblivion Construction Set, well… that’s not enough to make him show up. At best, a visit to Anvil will result in him being completely invisible, and at worst, a game crash. This is because Gamebryo no longer handles rendering.

Unreal Engine needs to be told by Gamebryo via strings what actually exists and what to render into the game. Everything needs a table string entry that connects back to Unreal, or you’ll have problems.

Fortunately, some incredibly talented modders (I like referring to them as engineers) have created tools like TesSyncMapInjector or the Fix & Port Script for xEdit that do this job for us – so Bob the Mage can exist in Oblivion Remastered.

Ok, so this particular mage isn’t called Bob, but you get the picture. | Image credit: Bethesda/VG247

However, this means players will be required to install these tools on their end to experience mods that add new items and systems to Oblivion Remastered, and it can be frustrating for new people that want to get into modding their games, but feel intimidated by all these requirements and specific installation instructions.

So ideally, we’ll get to a point where either Bethesda/Virtuos release official modding tools for the remaster or talented mod engineers are able to create tool(s) that make mods fully compatible with Unreal, without the end user needing to install extra requirements. For the ‘Oldblivion’ versions of my mods, they are all plug and play – no requirements. But for Remastered – for now – you’ll always need UE4SS and TesSyncMapInjector.

VG247: What inspired you to take on your Infinitum series, how was it putting together each of the radiant quest systems and deciding on the unique twists you were going to give each faction’s system? One of the things I found most interesting about the Dark Brotherhood one was the gacha-style Dark Token reward system, so how did the idea for that specifically come about?

ColdTyrant: The ‘radiant quest system’ I’ve designed was actually initially a side feature in another currently unnamed mod project regarding the Blackwood Company, as my original intention was to continue the ‘join and play evil factions’ genre of mods I’d released so far.

When I discovered during testing how much fun I was having just doing infinite quests, I thought to myself – I need to adapt this to the main factions. From there, once again, my ideas started to kind of run wild.

I ‘extracted’ the radiant quest system from my Blackwood project, ported it into a new project, and reworked it for the Dark Brotherhood. I think a lot of people feel this way, but Oblivion’s Dark Brotherhood is by far my favorite questline in the game, and I say that while really loving all of the major factions. I wanted to be able to take contracts to assassinate people forever, and I hoped others would too. In the end, Dark Brotherhood – Infinitum was born, and the series kicked off.

As far as the ‘gacha reward system’, I wanted to create a unique way for the player to get random rewards, but also be able to choose what type of reward they’re interested in. Creating a gacha that may or may not give the player something good for their Dark Tokens I thought would be a fantastic way to motivate the player to keep doing infinite contracts besides just the fun of sneak killing and gold.

If the popularity of certain gacha games is any indicator, people really love being able to take their chances and roll for rewards, even if the odds are stacked against them. Fortunately, however, Creeper does NOT charge the player any real-world money!

Some players complained that Creeper being in the Cheydinhal Sanctuary is not immersive (hence my ‘No Creeper’ optional version), and I totally get it – but I love Morrowind just as much as Oblivion and Skyrim, and I’m sure any Morrowind player is aware of the “meme” of selling Creeper hundreds of sets of Dark Brotherhood armor. Why wouldn’t he show up? He wants more of that stuff! It was just a fun reference in the end, and I was hoping people would get a kick out of it!

VG247: What are your personal plans and general hopes for Oblivion Remastered modding going forwards, especially when it comes to quest mods – are there any complex ideas you’ve not tried yet that you’re keen to give a go once the tech’s there and do you think there’s a high ceiling in terms of what people might eventually pull off?

ColdTyrant: Similar to what I mentioned earlier, the ideal situation for Oblivion Remastered modding will be the release of official modding tools to ‘grease the wheels’ on the mod development process – but given the complexity of the hybrid engine, I’m not sure if this will happen. It would be really nice, though, so our friends playing on console can hop on the hype wave of Remastered modding too.

As far as my plans – the next (and final, for the major factions) mod in the Infinitum series will be Mages Guild – Infinitum. This mod will feature an endless Creature Research system, a brand new Elixir-crafting system separate from regular Alchemy, and radiant quests to deliver those Elixirs to the various Mages Guild Halls. Additionally there will be an endlessly-available staff-crafting system.

Since we had our chat, ColdTyrant’s released his Mages Guild mod, so you can try it right after you’re done reading. | Image credit: Bethesda/ColdTyrant

Since the Mages Guild is a bit different, and focused more on scholarly endeavors and magical power, I’m hoping people really enjoy it!

Once the main Infinitum Series is complete, I’ll likely shift my focus to a big Mythic Dawn Rising update, and a secret project I’ve been writing up, that I think people will really love!

As far as whether or not I’ve tried certain ideas due to current limitations (I consider Remastered modding to currently be in its infancy), there are certainly a few. I try not to lean *too* heavily into NPC dialogue, for example, since we can’t use custom voice files yet, or have an elegant solution like ‘Elys Universal Silent Voice’ which exists for Oldblivion.

I think there is a high ceiling for learning and getting into more complex scripting if you’ve never done it before, but really, the sky is the limit when it comes to Bethesda modding – there are hundreds and hundreds of mod authors far more talented than myself that have created incredible content for all of Bethesda’s single-player masterpieces.

As time marches on, I’m really excited to see the things people continue to pump out for Oblivion Remastered. It’s really exciting to see what people can come up with!

Marvel’s movie schedule after delays to Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars

by admin May 23, 2025

The Avengers will assemble again. However, it will be at a later date.

Disney has delayed the releases of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Doomsday moves from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026. Secret Wars heads to December 17, 2027, instead of May 7, 2027.

Disney was not done with Marvel announcements. The studio also removed three Marvel dates from its calendar: February 13, 2026; November 6, 2026; and November 5, 2027. The February date has no replacement movie, while the two November offerings are now slotted as untitled Disney films.

Only four MCU movies in Phase Six have release dates:

  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25, 2025
  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day – July 31, 2026
  • Avengers: Doomsday – December 18, 2026
  • Avengers: Secret Wars – December 17, 2027

With Doomsday moving to December, Marvel will have a year between The Fantastic Four and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It’s Marvel’s longest theatrical movie gap since 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and 2021’s Black Widow. COVID-19 played a factor in that break from 2019 to 2021.

Disney still has a few release dates with untitled Marvel movies scheduled. July 23 is the only 2027 release besides Secret Wars. 2028 features a trio of movies on February 18, May 5, and November 10.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has now implemented a quality-over-quantity approach with Marvel projects. In May 2024, Iger said on an earnings call that going forward, Marvel will only release about two to three movies and two TV shows per year.

Marvel is betting the house on Doomsday and Secret Wars, so the Russo Brothers getting more time to deliver these two tentpoles makes sense. These two Avengers films will transition the MCU into the Mutant Era, where the X-Men will play a prominent role.

Filming on Avengers: Doomsday is underway. Marvel announced the Doomsday cast in March via live stream that ended with Robert Downey Jr. walking into frame. Downey will play the film’s villain, Doctor Doom.

Marvel currently has Thunderbolts* in theaters everywhere. The movie has grossed over $331 million worldwide in three weeks.
