Good Boy review: Doggie horror that’ll have you on the edge of your seat

by admin September 29, 2025

Good Boy is a haunted house movie quite unlike any ever made, as the slight story is told through the eyes of a dog, which makes for an unbearably tense viewing experience.

They say you shouldn’t work with children or animals on film, and while there isn’t a single kid in Good Boy, the entire movie revolves around a cute canine called Indy.

That dog belongs to co-writer (with Alex Cannon) and director Ben Leonberg, and he draws a remarkable performance out of his pet pooch – also called Indy – who appears heroic one minute, and terrified the next.

And while the story itself doesn’t quite live up to the furry star’s central turn, that clever conceit – and the brilliance with which it’s executed – makes Good Boy one of the most unique and original horror movies of the year.

What is Good Boy about?

IFC Films

The movie begins with Indy stressing over master Todd, who has clearly fallen ill in his apartment. Todd survives the medical emergency, but decides to move to the country for the sake of his health, so the pair of them up sticks and head to his late grandfather’s isolated house in the woods.

They arrive on a dark and rainy night, and it’s clear that Indy immediately has a problem with the place. You can’t blame him either. There’s plastic on the furniture, taxidermy on the shelves, plus creaky doors open of their own accord, to a creepy attic and even creepier basement.

“The cursed family house is a great place to relax,” jokes Todd’s sister Vera. But Todd seems blissfully unaware that something might be very wrong, even asking Indy “Am I crazy? It’s nice here, right?”

The dog doesn’t answer, for obvious reasons, but Indy starts witnessing shadows move, as well as a four-legged phantom only he can see roaming around the house.

The mystery deepens

IFC Films

While Indy is dealing with that paranormal threat, red flags also come Todd’s way, which he ignores, but we can use to try and piece the puzzle together.

Through old home movies – and conversations between the siblings – we learn that grandpa had a bunch of dogs, but they kept running away.

We also discover that no one ever stayed in the house for more than a few weeks aside from him, while a neighbor expresses surprise that Todd is staying there, after the way his grandpa died. Which Vera describes as “rotting from the inside out.”

The rest of the family hasn’t fared much better either, as the clan is buried in a nearby cemetery with one thing in common; they all died young. So what does it all mean?

Don’t expect every question to be answered

IFC Films

Unfortunately, while Good Boy poses multiple questions about the history of Todd’s relations and their cabin in the woods, the film is less interested in answering them.

There are useful details buried in throwaway lines, but just as much remains ambiguous, meaning those hoping for explanations and resolution will be frustrated by the third act.

But Good Boy is less about plot specifics, and more concerned with creating a mood. Human faces are rarely seen, being kept in the dark, or just out of frame.

Meaning it’s just us and the dog for most of the movie, a truly unique point-of-view from which to view events, and one that put me on the edge of my seat for the duration.

Is Good Boy good?

IFC Films

When Good Boy is a mystery movie about a house filled with secrets, it doesn’t really work, due to the scarce information on offer, and the amount that’s open to interpretation.

But when the movie focusses on Indy and that unseen force, it’s remarkable, thanks to superb framing, sound design, and shot choice, as well as that magical canine performance. I’ve never been more fearful for a character in jeopardy, and I’ve never been more proud when Indy does something selfless or brave.

Good Boy score: 4/5

Indy is a very good boy, and when the action revolves around him, Good Boy is a very good film.

Good Boy is out on October 3 in the US and October 10 in the UK, while you can head here for our list of the best horror movies ever made.

How to Properly Clean a Kid’s. Car Seat (2025)

by admin September 20, 2025

Car seats are there for a lot: every traffic-induced meltdown, every spilled juice box, every road trip nap. Most importantly, they save lives. But while it’s tempting to treat them like any other piece of kid gear when messes strike, they’re not just another item you can toss in the wash. They’re precision-built safety devices, and one misstep can compromise the parts designed to protect your child.

This guide walks you through how to properly clean a car seat, what not to do, and when to call a professional so your child stays protected, no matter how messy the ride gets.

Why Proper Car Seat Cleaning Matters

A quick toss in the washing machine may seem harmless, but it can ruin a car seat: “It could degrade the harness webbing itself, so it could weaken it,” says Kyndra Webb, a child passenger safety technician instructor and member of the National Child Passenger Safety Board. A harness is the only thing between your child and physics in a car crash.

Aggressive cleaning or machine washing can also shrink or distort covers, or strip away protective coatings. “A lot of them have fire retardants,” Webb says. “The more you wash it, the more you degrade some of that safety quality.”

Even perfect cleaning techniques can be undermined by one deceptively difficult step—putting everything back together. “The biggest thing that I have seen when families come for a car seat check after they’ve washed it, especially if they bought their car seat used, is they’re not assembling it correctly again,” Webb says. A car seat may look pristine and even be properly installed, but if the harness is routed wrong or the clips aren’t in place, it’s not doing its job.

That said, the stakes are too high to wing it. By sticking to the script of proper cleaning guidelines and manufacturer instructions, your seat can be both sanitary and road-trip ready.

How to Find a Car Seat Manual

Before you even think about reaching for those cleaning supplies, break out your car seat’s manual. If you can’t find the booklet that came with the seat, you can likely find it online: Visit your car seat manufacturer’s website, search for your specific model, and look out for links labeled “Manual,” “Instructions,” or “Support.”

The cleaning guidelines are then usually found in a dedicated section of the manual. “Some car seats even have QR codes now, so you can scan the code to bring you right to their website’s FAQs and their help,” Webb says. “Sometimes it’ll even bring you to their YouTube channel.”

If all else fails, contact customer service. “A lot of the manufacturers have child passenger safety technicians on staff,” Webb says. “They know their car seats, they know their products.” They’re the experts who can provide specific guidance for your model.

Morning Minute: Democrats Want A Seat at the Crypto Table

Today’s top news:

  • Crypto majors chop, SOL leads at $220; BTC at $112,300
  • Several crypto mining stocks soar on back of Oracle report of AI demand
  • Senate Democrats give list of conditions to work together on crypto market structure bill
  • Hyperliquid’s USDH proposal bids now heavily favor Native Markets
  • SBET buys 0 ETH last week, spends $15M on share buybacks

🏛️ Democrats Want A Seat at the Crypto Table

One of the biggest outstanding risks to crypto in America is its politicization and the potential for reversals and clawbacks if power changes.

Well, that risk can be alleviated right now if Senate Democrats get their way.

📌 What Happened

An important crypto market structure bill is currently being debated in Congress, and it looks like a group of pro-crypto Democrats are ready to work across the aisle –

As long as certain conditions are met.

Yesterday, a group of 12 Senate Democrats released a policy framework spelling out what they want in any digital-asset market-structure bill.

First and foremost, they want seats at the SEC and CFTC. Both of which have 5 commissioner seats, capped at 3 per party.

In addition to those seats, other conditions span:

  • consumer protection
  • jurisdictional clarity between the SEC and CFTC
  • rules for issuers and trading platforms
  • guardrails on illicit finance, and
  • ethics provisions to curb political self-dealing.

The move is positioned as a response to the GOP’s expanding draft and an invitation to negotiate a bipartisan deal that can clear the Senate.

The Democratic cohort includes Sens. Ruben Gallego, Mark Warner, Kirsten Gillibrand, Cory Booker, Raphael Warnock and others, several of whom voted for the bipartisan GENIUS stablecoin law, suggesting they’re viable swing votes.

🗣️ What They’re Saying

“For digital assets regulation to succeed, it is essential that regulators have the funding and staff that they need. These agencies also require Democratic voices, as Congress intended: only a bipartisan regulatory process will produce durable, balanced rules that provide long-term stability and legitimacy for digital asset markets.” – Letter published by Sen. Ruben Gallego

“Democrats want to rightfully feel like their voice and concerns have a proxy in the room during any rulemaking at these agencies, and they want to know that, if confirmed, those commissioners won’t be summarily fired.” – A D.C. insider, speaking to Decrypt

🧠 Why It Matters

This is the path to a real, durable crypto framework that can survive a change in power.

A Republican-only bill can pass the House, but it cannot clear the Senate without Democratic votes—and even if it did, it would be vulnerable to reversal in the next political cycle.

Bringing Democrats into the conversation now raises the odds of a stable, bipartisan regulatory framework that survives changes in power.

And overall their conditions are very reasonable: they want seats at the SEC & CFTC to have a say, assurances that new rules won’t weaken existing tradfi ones, prevention of using crypto to evade regulations, preserving consumer protection and creation an “appropriate and effective” DeFi framework.

On paper, all of those things make sense.

Working across the aisle now and reaching bipartisan agreement means less regulatory whiplash for exchanges, issuers, and investors, and a more predictable future.

And most importantly of all for 2028: if power flips again, a bipartisan law on the books is much harder to unwind than agency guidance or a narrow, partisan statute.

Cooperation today is the cheapest insurance policy against policy U-turns tomorrow.

AI's rise to the C-suite: how algorithms earned a seat at the table

by admin August 26, 2025

Artificial intelligence has become a back-office powerhouse and essential resource for sifting through data, optimizing processes, and automating the repetitive. But as AI tools become more accessible, they are no longer just crunching numbers behind the scenes. Executives are increasingly turning to these platforms as a trusted advisor for providing strategic insight and informing business decisions.

Our recent survey found that nearly three-quarters (74%) of executives trust AI’s input over that of friends or colleagues. Even more striking, 44% said they would allow generative AI to override a decision they had already planned to make. These findings mark a profound shift in how leadership decisions are made.

Traditionally, executives have relied on a blend of data, gut instinct, and conversations with trusted advisors. Now, AI is earning a spot in the inner circle, signaling a fundamental redefinition of how leaders pair human insight with machine intelligence to drive better outcomes.

AI as Strategic Co-Pilot

As companies prepare for an AI-focused future, business operations are being rewritten. Companies in every industry are looking for ways to incorporate AI that can help them build even the smallest competitive advantage. As a result, AI is taking on a new role as the C-suite’s strategic copilot, handling tasks like data analysis and recommendations (52%), uncovering hidden risks (48%) and presenting alternate strategic paths (47%).

AI is helping leaders go deeper—to challenge assumptions, test new scenarios, and make more informed decisions about how their business operates. But even in everyday life, AI is finding valuable and exciting uses, with some guardrails.

I’ve used it to help plan family vacations and generate personalized bedtime stories for my children. While it struggles to manage complex scheduling (and the nuances of how I manage my calendar), AI has transformed how I approach and solve many problems, offering a helpful sounding board for tasks in both my personal and professional life.

SAP CEO Christian Klein recently shared that he uses generative AI to preview quarterly earnings results and better understand company performance.

AI’s influence extends to other roles in the C-suite as well, from automated anomaly detection in financial transactions for CFOs, to streamlining contract reviews and generation of new contracts for CPOs, to COOs needing to evaluate capacity planning and manage variability in market demand.

And, of course, there is always the most common use case of all – summarizing complex documents and topics, and generating subsequent action items.

We’re far from alone. More leaders are beginning to incorporate AI into the highest levels of planning and forecasting.

Critical Thinking and the Human Touch

As AI’s influence in the boardroom grows, so does the trust leaders place in it. Part of this stems from AI’s growing ability to analyze massive volumes of data and provide contextually rich insights. In some situations, AI is usurping the guidance of near and dear advisors as previously mentioned. A trusted colleague might offer valuable perspective, but they haven’t parsed two billion data points before weighing in.

Still, there are limits. While executives should continue to use AI to help with business matters, there’s a risk that critical thinking will be lost rather than enhanced as a result. True strategic decision-making will always require a human touch—which AI can’t replicate.

Going forward, executives must strike a careful balance, keeping people involved to help make complicated and high-value strategic decisions, while using AI to enhance their thinking, not replace it.

Building a Foundation for Strategic AI Use

Such heightened reliance on AI will also force organizations to grapple with foundational challenges. The reality is that many companies still lack the reliable data infrastructure needed to support high-trust AI use. Lack of alignment between IT and business teams, patchy system integration and concerns about data quality all threaten to undermine the effectiveness of AI as a strategic advisor.

Companies must establish clear guardrails, like those below, to ensure these tools are used reliably and responsibly, balancing speed and scale with transparency and human input.

  • Develop AI literacy across leadership through dedicated training and upskilling programs.
  • Prioritize transparency by using platforms that can explain their reasoning in clear, understandable terms.
  • Define boundaries for where and how AI should influence decision-making, particularly in ethically sensitive or high-risk areas.

Co-Creation: The Future of Leadership

As AI becomes a true collaborator in the boardroom, the goal isn’t to hand over control. It’s to elevate leadership. In this new era, great leaders won’t always have the right answer, but they will know when and how to ask the right questions—and where to turn for the best insights.

Going forward, we see leadership evolving from command-and-control to co-creation. Those who thrive will be the ones who understand how to blend human experience, emotional intelligence, and machine-derived insight into a cohesive and future-first strategy.

With AI as a loyal advisor, the possibilities for transformative leadership are just beginning.

We list the best scheduling app.

Is This Seat Taken? Review – Good Sit

by admin August 22, 2025

There’s nothing I value more in a game than focus – a game with a clear vision that knows exactly what it aims to be – and Is This Seat Taken from Poti Poti Studio is a fantastic example of that. If a game is a meal, this game is popcorn: light, easy to eat, and a perfectly portioned snack. Is This Seat Taken takes a beautifully simple premise – sitting people in chairs – and iterates on it in consistently creative and exciting ways. Thanks to its cute aesthetics and clever puzzle design, it’s an experience I’d even recommend to people who don’t usually play games.

In Is This Seat Taken, your goal is to drag people (represented as anthropomorphic shapes) into their preferred seats in different environments. Each person has specific preferences about the placement of their seats or their proximity to other people, so it gets complicated quickly. On a bus, for example, some people might prefer window or aisle seats, while others want to sit at the back or the front.

To make matters more complex, some riders are kids who want to sit with their parents, extroverts who want to sit by someone who can hold a conversation, or people with bags they want on the seat next to them. The sheer variety of desires presented across the game’s 30 levels was surprising, and I always looked forward to seeing what new preferences would arise in the next areas.

Buses and trains are straightforward seating environments, but others introduce additional wrinkles to the formula. At the sports game, fans of opposing teams don’t want to sit next to each other, and some want to stand rather than sit, blocking the view of those behind them. At a concert, some might want to sit or dance while others need to play on stage as a member of the band. And the airport has you check each person’s flight to see if they should be in line to board or seated at the gate.

All these variables are arranged in a wonderfully paced sequence, where you never stay in one locale too long, and there are very few repeat environments. Whenever you get comfortable, you’re introduced to something exciting and fresh, making it an incredibly engaging puzzle game. Complete every level in a city without messing up a seating request to unlock bonus levels, like a wedding or a beach, that each showcase level-specific mechanics.

The whole journey is presented through a loose story starring Nat, a rhombus who wants to be an actor, on their journey through several cities around the world. Much like the puzzles, it’s all about Nat trying to fit in, and I found it charming and effective; just present enough to be a pleasant throughline, but not so distracting that I felt the need to skip through dialogue.

With my 100-percent playthrough clocking in at about five hours, Is This Seat Taken is a satisfying snack of a game. Complete with a chill soundtrack and a cute art style, it felt like a breath of fresh air. While I played it on PC, it would feel right at home on the go on its other platforms, Switch and mobile. It’s an easy recommendation for anyone even slightly interested in puzzle games.
