Asus heard you like screens, so it put a curved ‘3D effect’ OLED screen on your CPU water cooler

We’ve seen CPU coolers with screens before. We’ve seen CPU coolers with OLED screens before. We’ve seen CPU coolers with curved OLED screens before. We’ve even seen CPU coolers with curved, motorised OLED screens before. But have we seen a CPU cooler with a curved, movable 3D-effect OLED screen before? No, sir, we have not. Until today.

Give it up for the ROG Ryuo IV 360 ARGB water cooler, the ultimate checkbox exercise in CPU cooling, announced today at Gamescom. Its finely triangulated USP is a movable curved 6.67-inch AMOLED display that supports “3D-effect videos or customized system information”.

Asus says, “a powerful pump delivers robust cooling performance, higher flow, and lower impedance, while the pre-mounted, daisy-chained ARGB fans provide high airflow and static pressure. Its fans have a low-noise design and feature front and side lighting.”

The cooler supports LGA 1851, 1700, AMD AM5, and AM4 CPU sockets, and features 400mm tubing for better chassis compatibility. There’s also software with support for hardware monitoring and screen content management. Oh, and there’s a white version, too, that’s otherwise identical.

Getting back to that “3D effect” thing, our understanding is that is doesn’t mean some kind of lenticular 3D, as per the Acer Predator SpatialLabs View 27 we recently reviewed. Instead, we’re talking 3D effect as in those videos that use borders and lines to frame movement, plus extreme perspective and a bit of blur. Like this demo video.

Asus doesn’t provide a specific resolution for the display, only describing it at “2K”. But that probably means 1,920 by 1,080, or something very close to that. By default, it can either display one of a number of preloaded 3D effect visuals or a user-configurable suite of hard info, such as CPU temps, fan speeds, voltages, clockspeeds and all that good stuff.

You can also splitscreen the display, so that part of it is showing hardware info, the other trick visuals. And as you can see above, the “3Dness” does actually kinda work.

As for the “movable” bit, the OLED screen is on a slider. So now you know. For the record, the radiator measures 394 by 140 by 32 mm and sports three front-and-side lit 120 mm fans. That setup delivers a rated airflow of 71.44 CFM at a noise level of 39.6 dB(A). The cooler module has a six year warranty, while the screen is covered for two years.

Finally and on the sordid matter of money, this was never gonna be cheap. US pricing hasn’t emerged, but it’s available in the UK for £322, which implies something in the region of $350. Ouch. But then if you want screens on everything, it’s going to cost you.

Path of Exile’s new mercenaries are very strong. Unlike Diablo 4’s mercs, PoE’s are essentially NPC allies using all the same gear and items a player could. At high enough levels, they’re arguably better than we could ever be—tireless soldiers on the frontlines of the war for loot.

PoE streamer Pohx Kappa discovered this firsthand soon after the new league (read: season) started. Despite running an AOE-based build made for running through enemies and leaving their smoldering corpses behind, his merc simply deleted every monster in sight before he could even touch them.

“I can’t even hit anything!” Pohx exclaims while watching his merc wipe the screen clear of enemies with a wave of energy bolts. “I can’t even explode the mobs!” he said, realizing he was now playing PoE like it was a walking simulator.

Grinding Gear Games may have made mercs a little too powerful. There are already clips of streamers playing in hardcore getting unexpectedly one-tapped by them. You’re allowed to take a peek at their equipment before accepting a duel against them, but there are some skill combinations that might be doing too much damage.

If you can survive the duel, however, you can have them at your side while you clear out maps. Most experienced PoE players seem to be loading them up with supportive items, like a weapon that prevents elemental ailments from affecting nearby allies (AKA: you). We’re still early in the league though, so I expect players will discover even more broken ways to set them up soon.

Pohx’s experience is apparently what it’s like to bring a merc along with you while you’re leveling up a new character. Mercs can stick around as long as they’re within 20 levels of you, so some people are keeping a few around to power level themselves later.

I’ll be very curious to see how GGG decides to balance them. Surely it will make sure they don’t pop players out of nowhere, but nerfing them so you don’t randomly find one with a better build than you might kind of ruin the fun. That said, nobody would want a meta where you’re the support as your merc does all the work for you, right?

Matrox launches dual-GPU graphics card with eight DisplayPort 2.0 outputs supporting four 8K or eight 5K screens at once

One of Nvidia’s earliest rivals, Matrox was well known in the 1990s for its high-quality graphics cards.

Although it eventually moved away from the mainstream gaming market, the company has remained active in professional and multi-display environments, including supplying display systems for the Sphere, the massive music and entertainment venue just off the Las Vegas Strip.

Now, Matrox is preparing to release a new dual-GPU graphics card aimed at powering video walls and multi-display setups.

Up to four 8K displays

The upcoming Matrox LUMA Pro A380 Octal features two Intel Arc A380E GPUs and eight Mini DisplayPort 2.0 outputs, allowing it to drive up to four 8K displays or eight 5K screens at once.

The A380 Octal is a single-slot PCIe 4.0 x16 card and includes 12GB of GDDR6 memory, with a 130W power requirement and active cooling.

Supported APIs include DirectX 12 Ultimate, OpenGL 4.6, Vulkan 1.3, and OpenCL 3.0, making it compatible with a wide range of professional software environments. Matrox’s PowerDesk software and its Mura Developer tools are also supported.

In terms of capabilities, the card can deliver high-definition video across eight synchronized displays, including support for HDR, VESA DSC compression, Adaptive Sync, and HDCP 2.3. The maximum bit depth reaches up to 36 bits per pixel. Users can also stream multi-channel high-definition audio through four digital outputs.

According to Matrox, two cards can be used in a single system and can be frame-locked for synchronized output.

A second model in the lineup, the A380 Quad, offers similar features with a single GPU, 6GB of memory, and four full-sized DisplayPort connectors instead of eight Mini DisplayPorts. The Quad model draws less power and is aimed at less demanding applications.

There’s no word on pricing or availability for either model. Matrox lists them only as “coming soon.”

Nvidia releases emergency RTX 5060-series firmware to fix blank screens on reboot

Many RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti users encounter blank screens when restarting their systems. Nvidia has released an update to resolve this problem, not through a new driver, but as a firmware update for the GPU, also known as the vBIOS. The report strictly advises that only users experiencing this problem should update their firmware.

The problem likely stems from how Nvidia’s vBIOS communicates with the system’s BIOS/UEFI. If your motherboard does not support UEFI boot mode, Nvidia recommends contacting the customer service of your GPU manufacturer for a legacy vBIOS update. The exact culprit hasn’t been specified, but the fact that Nvidia is providing a fix strongly implies that part of the problem is within their domain.

Nvidia’s RTX 50 GPUs have struggled with stability and compatibility, starting with the problematic R570 branch of drivers, which even affected older RTX 20/30/40 series GPUs. Having experienced these issues first-hand, it took Nvidia multiple weeks to address most of them with the 576.02 update. If your RTX 5060 or RTX 5060 Ti throws a black or blank screen on reboot, you may need to update its vBIOS. An abrupt power outage during firmware updates can potentially brick your GPU, so proceed cautiously.
